Alec Steele: Workshop building youtube channel.
This feels like coming back to an old familiar place I grew up in and it’s literally just an old workshop 😂
i felt exactly the same way, as soon he didn't show coming out of the car I was like, its the old workshop isn't it
Ikr
Took the words right out of my mouth 🤣🤣🤣
just like going back to your childhood bedroom
Thanks to the covid hoax, the landlord probably didn't succeed to rent it out to someone else yet. Makes you wonder about the economic impact of these 'two weeks of flatten the curve' now doesn't it?
And a proper Collin Furze collaboration coming up !
Sponsored by Ryobi lol

Will is moving into a new shop, Alec is back in the UK.... Am I the only one who feels like the parents are splitting up? Do we get two Christmases??
Maybe even three, Alec from UK, Will in his new shop and ppl left in USA shop :D
yeah im thinking the same thing, hopefully nothing bad happened, bad blood etc
Literally nothing happened will was never a partner of Alec he was just someone in Montana who could help him and started working for him, will probably realised he could be earning more making his own knives in his own shop and maybe even make a company like Alec
@@morganrichardson1645 ya the fact that will text a photo of the broken power hammer and Alec immediately called him says to me they are just fine. I think more than anything 2020 showed Alec and his wife how important it is to be able to be near family. Shoot I think a lot of us have learned that lesson this year.
@@morganrichardson1645 The deal they made was always gonna be to work together for a year. They did say that previously.
That said, I'm pretty sure Will will (lol) be around. Maybe not as much, but still.
Having a workshop in the US and UK technicaly means he's running a international business now right!?
sounds like it
and since 2 is multi... This is now a multinational
I believe so
As he continued to employ Jamie in the UK, he has been international since emigrating to the USA. Some of his business taxes are UK, for instance (Jamie's salary if nothing else), even if the bulk of his trading is probably attracting US taxes.
Just means he's going to have customers on both sides of the Atlantic!
Is anyone else worried about Will!? We left him close to tears!!
Looks like he has fun on Instragram
Yeah came to this video to see if there was any update on Will. Still like alec but just left the Will story in a real cliffhanger.
There is an update at the very end of Alec's next vid after this one.
Spoiler:

Sounds like he will be working with Jason from fireball tools try to fix it. Which if any one can help it's him. Edit to add that im super happy about that and looking forward to seeing the video!

"The lights we normally use are 590 pounds."
I don't really care how much they weigh, but that does sound quite heavy for a light. I am curious how much they cost though... :P
No-one's ever confused 'kilogram' for a currency... Metric ftw!
Lights are going for about $1.34 per lb. So almost $800.

I don't know about that. His editing is actually next level
I swear if he brings back Mr. Pilkington, I'm throwing a PARTY
Dont think Nate would sell Mr P back now
Ryobi’s line of One+ tools are really impressive for the price. They have a nice selection and variety of tools and they keep adding more. You will really want to get some of the 4AH batteries though.
Recently the ryobi drill at my work caught fire while I was using it the thing was only 3 years old definitely a good drill for the price but I’m not sure about the longevity of them
I don't have any Ryobi hand held power tools, but my compound miter saw is Ryobi and so is all my yard equipment. I've been pleased with all of them.
I’ve used dewalt, ryobi, makita, hitachi, Bosch, Milwaukee, hell, even snap-on, Milwaukee is still my favourite for battery operated tools.
Throw away the 2ah batteries as he said :p those are useless
Yeah not seen a 2Amp that big since the nicad days.
R.I.P. Will’s Fairbanks power hammer
Was getting ready to ask if anyone else was still heartbroken from wills last episode. I cried for him

I have been watching your videos for almost 5 years now. As I have seen you develop your craft, I have increasingly grown concerned that your popularity would grow too much, too fast and you would completely sell out, burn out, or simply just become someone you never wanted to be. There is a lot of pressure to always be moving forward to bigger and "better" things. It happens all the time with extremely talented people like yourself. You go from being a dedicated craftsman to an entertainer. It genuinely warms my heart to see you back in your old workshop and talking about slimming things down, reorganizing, and in a way, getting back to the basics. Just remember why you have become so successful: not because you are an entertainer, but because you are an incredibly talented and passionate blacksmith. Grow, hone your craft, and teach others as you do so. But please, never ever lose that wonder for your trade.
Anyone else get emotional seeing the old shop and Jamie?...
*silent tears fall from a happy face...
Alec sounds like his British accent is coming back strong since going back to the UK.
If we pool our resources we can make sure he stays British
He is even using metric measurements!
the real reason he went back, to recharge his accent
Lumber 🤣
He did say wrench far too many times though
Over the years this channels gone from a mild interest to something I get genuinely excited about when i get an upload notification
ngl i was hoping for the barker street forge, that being said, this is gonna be AWESOME! I love the return to the old second new second first second workshop!!! SO EXCITED!!
I was totally thinking at the start of the vid he'd be back there. Was funny that he ended up getting his old new shop back instead.
I love seeing the process of learning and use of experiences! This is why I am very glad to be a subscriber of your channel for quite some time now!
I remember a guy telling me years ago, from that same shop, buy once cry once 😂
As someone who has been subscribed since you moved from the barkerstreet workshop, no words can describe the utter joy that lightened my face so see the old workshop again.
Glad to see you back at it! Grats on the international expansion! Love where you are going with the lights and layout. I can't wait to see more video from there!
This is so fun to see! Very much looking forward to the episodes coming from the lovely new old second workshop. Brings up good memories seeing that space again.
Even though I am excited for every video that comes out by alec, i would like to know how will is doing. So sad last video 😭
It just dawned on me that since Alec is now back in the UK, and is even getting the new old workshop back up and running again, we may yet see that colab between him and Colin Furze, one can dream.
We must skreech our wishes from the highest peaks so both of them Heed the call.
If Boris 'allows' it. Or rather: if Boris' masters allow to allow it.
Alec Steele's honest enthusiasm for building things is refreshing -- among all the fake enthusiasm many UA-camrs exhibit.

Classic Alec workshop vlog - love it!
FYI, the saw isn't stopping because it's "cheap" it's because your wood was unsupported past a point and the wood was pinching your blade.
Poor works man blames his tooled. Eash did I just say that about Alec?! 👀
@@masterarcade8746 Eh... he's a metal worker not a woodworker I'll give him a pass on that 😊
The battery ones also have a lot less power then the corded ones.
The saw should fling the wood out at any innocents standing near and try to embed itself in your leg instead of stopping.

When Alec said the new light was "only 90 pounds" I was shocked at how strong he was holding it up...then he showed the price of the old light and I realized that I am stupid.

I can imagine Alec having to pay shipping to get one of his own anvils and hammers shipped form Montana to the new shop.
In a previous video he did mention that he has a shipping crate on the way, with some tools etc.
He shipped one of his new anvils to his new shop.... it was in the wooden crate he put together.
Those anvils are now thinking 'dude, make up your mind'
To the old shop? I'm a bit confused about the tense form here

Good luck! Glad to be joining you on your journeys.
I want to see that "I spent so much money" again. Every time you buy something. Hilarious!
He snagged the old workshop vibes. Really working on building viewer retention.
So glad to see the old shop again!!
Great to see you back in the old workshop. Didn't predict this would happen, brilliant.
Tip from my grandpa, a carpenter: wear a mask anytime you cut any particle board. The adhesives can give you COPD!
What exactly is copd?
if you have UA-cam then you have Google....
just type COPD disease
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Thought the same. MDF contains formaldehyde, which is something you absolutely do not want to breathe in!

This is not a workshop build. It's a set build. This is cool.
Love it that you're going back to your roots. And your idea for spacing your equipment closer is absolutely brilliant.
I love the Ryobi line! I’ve had them for years and they’re still going
Over the last year i was thinking, 'I wish he was back in his old workshop making simpler videos again'.
Didnt actually think that was possible.
I was really hoping Colin Furze was gonna pop up in this video since he was in the video when Alec left.

Alec, I’ve been watching you since you were working in the first shop man. So proud to see you where you’re at, keep it up 👍🏽
Oh wow, seeing the old workshop again was fun! Cool to be back!
The new style production quality with this kind of content is awesome to see, looking forward to more fun times setting up the old new New old new workshop!
That moment when you look at Alec's life with his hard work and earned success. And you remember what you were doing at his age and where you are now.... feeling totally inadequate.....
But great content as always and congrats on the new old shop!!!
I’m really impressed with how far you’ve come and how much you’ve done since you started. Making enough to have and extra workshop and tools to fill it is a big achievement, and you’re doing what you love. Congrats Alec

It's amazing to see how much thought you put in the video making, in the optics and how the video making dictates the space. It's a part you usually don't see. I like it a lot.

Progress with perspective, such a powerful thing. Thank you for sharing, Alec!
I do love the editing and filming language that Jamie uses. He makes shots and cuts that moves the narrative forward quickly and entertainingly
I was so hoping that he would be at his first workshop. I really appreciate what he saying about making the video interesting and visually layered. It’s definitely one of the main reasons why I watched every episode form that time period.
Yeah, he said its expensive to have that one as workshop and top of it his not in UK most? of the time, so i dont even get why he would need bigger place than garage or couple shipping containers worth of room. Top of it his getting brand new everything.. I really cant say this was smart investment, unless his going to hire blacksmiths from UK to produce hammers, anvils etc in that shop too for revenue income.
I feel like we're getting back to what made this channel amazing. I'm feeling excited about each upload again! Thank you, Alec!
I’m a carpenter and I’ve been using Ryobi for years,! They hold up just great! Best cheap power tool on the market in my opinion!
If they get stolen it doesn't hurt as bad. I use all brands and each brand has some great tools, I have the battery operated compressor and it works great , think I paid 65 for it, got the ryobi drain snake and it works awesome, I have electric eel drain cleaners but for a quick light job it's awesome.
This brings back some memories. Now to go back to the old old workshop to reclaim it :D
So great to see you in the old workshop ! And to see Jamie!
please take us with you when you build up that workshop, love it !
My dad has beat the crap out of a ryobi corded drill for over 20 years building wood boats and it still runs great.
Old ryobi good, new ryobi bad....
The old Ryobi stuff from when they were still making them in Japan was very good. Their original portable planer- the first on the market- is still the standard by which all others are judged in the marketplace.
What they said ^^ Ryobi used to be damn good for how cheap they were. And they’re worlds away from what they used to be.
I bought a ryobi impact wrench for a quick job 4 years ago its been used everyday and its still going strong
Why am I so excited that you have your old workshop back? I guess it's the nostalgia. I watched all your videos and it's so exciting to see how far you've come.
Great to see u expand your business. Always good to see good thing happen to great ppl. Best of luck to you.
Why am I not surprised that he got his old workshop back
I'm guessing you didn't have the time to this time around, but seems a shame you couldn't save some money by getting second hand tools - given Will's experience with the power hammer would love to see some videos about buying used tools: where to look, what to look for to get a good deal, (maybe some tips on how to restore things to their former glory), and just your experiences with buying tools secondhand. Love the new old new old new workshop! :)
I'm guessing buying new lower end ones was easier to do while in quarantine
I presume if he's buying machine tools they will be secondhand,
It's generally both quicker and cheaper to ring round a bunch of smaller machine tool dealers, buy whatever they have that best suits your needs and get it picked up, than to buy new from a manufacturers agent, then wait for delivery and commissioning.
There are at least 8 power hammers for sale in the UK on machineseeker right now, 11 if you count the three HUGE 10,000kg, 25,000kg and 60,000kg (remember that refers to the mass of the falling parts, not overall mass) ones which are blatantly inappropriate for Alex's needs.
i thought Will was going his own way and Alec had another assistant i might missed some vids. Forgive my ignorance
The screen at 7:50 is priceless. So much joy on his face. But to the video at hand: I liked the videolog theme with your quality music and little cinematic scenes inbetween. You really take us viewers along your day in this format and I love it.
Glad to see you guys branching out. Hope that you have many more years of success!
4 minutes and 20 seconds - it's not the tool, it's operator error - the boards were bending (butterfly wings) and binding up the blade. My 20V Dewalt does the same thing.
use the : like this 4:20 and you can click on it.
The ryobis have served me well, they just need quality bits and blades
N ot running the circular saw on a 2 ah battery would be a start!
Yeah a 5 Ah battery has more power. I didn't believe it at first because the 'Ah' rating is how long its supposed to last. But bigger batteries are better!
The tools aren’t bad, but I have found the quality of their batteries to be hit or miss.
@@joshua2089 the 5Ah batteries have 2 layers of cells in parallel, so you get less voltage drop on high drain tools. You'll see a visible difference in performance between the 2 and 5Ah batteries. The newer 6 and 9Ah batteries are better again... Particularly if you have the brushless tools!
@@VTRAddict Ahh thanks thats interesting
This is awesome! So glad your back in the UK!!!!
So awesome to see you back in the old shop. That's the time I got hooked on your videos and started to love forging
Alec, get some 4ah ryobi batteries, it improves the tools immensely.
Yeah especially that circularsaw
They're about half the price in the states if travelling back and forth.
I'd go for the 6ah batteries instead. 20% increased current over the 4ah
At leasr 4, i generally dont use les than 5AH in the saw, grinder, vacuum etc. anything high current draw. 6 and up is better, 1.5 and 2 on drill, lights, gresse gun, low draw things.
