Alec Steele Blacksmith 2021 - Розваги
Hey Colin Furze, this Alec Guy looks pretty short, perfect for digging tunnels :D
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 Made my day
🤣😂
😂 Give him a hydrolic digging thingamyjig
...he may also be in the market for a couple of pulse jets for his scooter....
"Scooter": A lightweight, minimalist form of transport.
Alec: builds a two-wheeled WW1 Mark V tank.
Lmao
As reliable as one, too.
In which Alec continues to stand-in for Colin Furze whilst Colin is diggin' 'is tunnel ;) Alec needs a safety tie.
The fan says "it's going to be a breeze"
No, it says blow me!
What a pun
It is missing a pulse jet. I think we know of a guy who could sort that out!
Edit: no safety tie when riding the scooter as well?
Oh that would make my day if they did a colab.
@@DarkestdaysAU would be brilliant. Alec back/stuck in the UK, be a good chance to do it!
@@DarkestdaysAU yeah they tried, he collin showed up, but Alec had to leave for the US
@@Monuments_to_Good_Intentions Damn that blows
Man I'd love to see them build something together
"We have a fan in the workshop" You must be a Dad to make a Dad joke..
DON DON DON
Well....that would make him a faux pa ;)
@@luniac99 Ba-Dum-Tishhh!😖😭😂
i love the colin furze mention
genuine madman in all the best ways
"i need an alarm! (for my underground bunker"
>refuses to put in a normal one
>uses varying bb guns to alert him of different areas
ingenious design in-fuckin-deed my good friend
Judging by his recent videos, I think Colin Furze is laughing from BELOW.
Sprocket ratio is off that's why it has trouble accelerating
Eithter that or the clutch doesn't fully engage, but with the problem of dying mainly at load, your theory makes more sense
This is the comment i was looking for, correct
So to summarize what you are saying: The sprocket ratio is off, so the engine can't rev high enough and/or produce enough torque. With low revs the clutch most likely is also not fully engaging. So, smaller sprocket-wheel on the engine and/or a larger one on the wheel.
@@phil21s correct
its stalling as it is so if he swaps the sprocket sizes around itll just die as soon as the clutch engages
Colin Furze would be proud
Indeed
Was expecting him to pop up out of the ground in a miners hat holding a pulse jet.
he does not know... because he is underground... digging ;-)
@@lolzlarkin3059 That sounds like something Colin would definitely do
The guy screaming at you at the end deserves a medal… that was funny. Was also pretty funny watching you geek out at like 3mph. 😉🤣. Legit fear though. Nobody wants some chain violently smacking their calves or an engine case blowing up behind them. Cool project!! Truly wish I had your fabrication skills, I have so much respect for your craft!
Glad to see you crush the challenges you had with the scooter. It not stay running because it's low on oil. Some engines have a safety low oil sending unit to the ignition. And when it detects low oil it shuts itself off. Oh and the throttle should be on the right side of your handle bars
I think you need a CVT out of a golf cart.. (continuous variable transmission). “Cars and cameras” here on UA-cam may be a good place for small engine drivetrain ideas.
The clutch (8:05) that you were talking about is similar to a design used in many household appliances in the U.S., Jeremy Fielding has a great video detailing this device and its ingenious design.
It is the same clutch that is used on chain saws and go carts
@@giles-df9yu oh yea! I saw that when I took apart a chainsaw for fun, it's a really interesting design, it does have an effect of not going over a certain amount of resistance which is really good in for the chainsaw
Great job Alec! It was fun watching you learn as you went and boy did you learn lots.
There are lots of folks out there will great tutorials on making these small engines run their best. I recommend CarsandCameras, for one.
I think your research will lead you in the direction of the carburetor. They have lots of small passages that will easily gum up if you leave petrol in them for too long. Congrats on your first motor vehicle build!
I always admire your periodic plunges into the metallic unknown. Well done good Sir.
I would love another Bicycle build series Alec.
May I suggest a Cargo Bike......potentially add some eBike motors as well for that extra added level of learning and complexity.
For a moment there, I thought we were going to have to watch Alec try to start the engine for about 15 minutes. 🤣
Love you ambition Alex, keep up the awesome work!
The banter about the worm was my favorite part XD
That has got to be the most robust scooter ever! Might I suggest watching a few episodes of "Steve's Small Engine Saloon" and my favorite "Cars and Cameras" for more builds. Having a forge sure makes bending flat stock easy!! Much enjoyed!
I really like this idea! I would love to see u collab with someone and possibly get the engine working properly !!
Those Ryobi fans are great! On low speed a battery will last several nights of van camping. Makes getting to sleep so much easier.
There's a reason people use ball or needle roller bearings rather than plain bushes for steering head bearings...
@Aelius _ I do wonder how much of that is an affectation for the purposes of making content... 'I did a 25 minute montage of the complex & interesting fabrication of something that I knew was never going to work, because 'I went to the bearing factors & they sold me two needle roller bearing sets' doesn't really make a great video :-).
Doesn't need to be fancy and purchased either. A smooth groove and a pile of balls will make a good'nuf ball bearing quite easily.
@Ken Haylock Please can you enlighten me as to the major mechanical disadvantages of brass bushes in place of roller bearings in a steering head, aside from a higher coefficient of friction and greater maintenance requirement?
@@dfgaJK the lower friction is the key advantage of rolling bearings here. "Feel" from the road comes as a bunch of subtle steering twitches and the friction of bushings would eliminate most of the feedback.
This reminds me of a project of my older brother. He and my grandfather (he owned a shop.) put together a mini bike and and used a similar engine. This was in the late 1960s. My project was rebuilding a go cart. I used the same Briggs and Stratton and the gearing did not work so the transmission was the majority of the build. The go cart looked like late 1950s Indy 500 car. Living in Indiana at the time made me wonder who had built it.
Great to see a fan in the shop.
Loving this series!
Yessir Alec. It deserves to be back
Just been rewatching you make a katana, and it had me thinking do you ever want to revisit projects and make them again with all you have learnt since first doing it?
YESS😱😱
Please do another video on the scooter😆
On the bright side, at least you didn’t hook it up and then revved the throttle, thusly zooming backwards through a wall.
That would make for great comedy though.
My brother once told me about a story where a cousin of ours decided to connect a lawnmower engine to a tricycle. The engine was connected directly to the rear-axis with no gear system or transmission.
After riding it just once, he then proceeded to remove the engine.
Bit late now, but I built a mini chopper style motorbike (for a laugh) using an old BMX bike and a lawnmower engine. A few people expressed concern about running the lawn mower engine on its side, but I went with it and made sure I put enough oil into the sump that it came up to crack level so rotation of the big end would splash oil around. It worked fine and I never had any problems with the engine. That is not to say it could go wrong, but it definately can work.
You and Furze working together on tricking that scooter out would be sick, and you guys could do it in a 'pimp my ride' kind of style and add silly stuff like handlebar mounted paintball guns or something fun like that. But either way I love these kind of videos where you have a goal and you kind of learn along the way, because as somebody who has no idea how to do any of this stuff it means I get to learn along the way why some things are done in specific ways too :)
I like the demonstration of the Bridgeport head angle
Very intrigued by the modified E36 BMW, and the Sierra XR4 in the background at 11:25. Don't see many XR4s in the world anymore!
I love my Ryobi fan so much. its really a game changer when its over 95° every day
"A fan in the workshop"... You got my hopes up that it would open the door for that kind of stuff, and then I saw your punchline. Oh, the rollercoaster of fandom.
A brush cutter/whipper snipper is small, cheap and already has a centrifugal clutch on it. Save you a lot of screwing around and run faster out of the gate
Can you reach out to Colin and Collab with him on the engine?
Colin is a little bussy right now. Seems like he's in his shed a lot. Did some concrete pooring as well. Even though no new projects to be seen.
Or on something… their energies would be amazing!
Hi from Ontario, Canada! 😁
Building stuff is all fine and dandy but my favorite part was happy Yogo running after you on the scooter
Always love the stuff you post!
I sure do wish those Steele's 01G1 were available for those of us with a more robust waistline. The sizes currently offered are for younger boys.
That's awesome as your first attempt, I reckon you need to make a new electric scooter with curved round pipe as the frame, similar to a go-ped!
The best part is how professional that came out.. With honestly pretty nice set up... And yet some incredibly shady things I've made put of pure boredom that while worked much better were way more dangerous lol Hey you did alright sir keep it up.!
Thank you so much for working on this again was beginning to think you just gave up. Personally with it dying I would check the carburetor and spark plug to be sure they are clean. If they aren’t then your burning fuel to hot and leaving suet and need to adjust fuel mix
Interesting idea for a long series. Because you have access to all the machines, you should make/use your tools/machines to make the parts to build duplicates of your machines and thus make another shop.
I would possibly try out different clutch springs. Sometimes they're too stiff and they don't grip well enough, hence the low power.
Scooter is back. Glad to see this project wasnt a dud. Really want to see how it looks when finished.
"The worms dead!"
Thanks, now I have tea in my sinuses... lol
6:43 - Ok Alec, now you gotta make a driving video Car Throttle style :D (or a collab? huuh?) :D
Also 9:39 - one of the best advertisements I've ever seen :O
definitely the coolest ad I've seen. if they aren't sold out i'll be getting myself some steele's!!
Jamie's jump scare at the end worth the 👍all by itself 😁
Alec, great work; remarkable metalworker that you are... I do notice that your brake system seems to be from a bicycle. The friction pads on that will wear out very quickly considering the mass of the bike and the rider. When they fail (due to excessive heat/thinning wear) they may shatter completely and leave the disc assembly altogether. This of course means you 'll be pumping along under power and not be able to stop - at all... Replace or upgrade them to something engineered for motorised propulsion.
I was hopping that you'd get back to this
Love the audi, and if course all of the awesome work you do. Probably my favorite is the Scottish claymore beautiful sword.
I'd love to see you do something with all those bronze chips.
Clean the carburettor for a start, and do a compressiontest to check piston and rings (should not be any lower than 80 psi)
Don't give up on it. Ull get it. Love to see it finish
If there was old fuel in it...most likely just need to clean the carb.
Oh yeah!!! Thanks Alec!!!
The carburetor probably needs either further cleaning or adjustments. A small engine/lawnmower shop could probably fix that right up. Then maybe just tinker with the throttle and/or gear sizes and it should run great
Centrifugal clutches come in different stall speeds! The one you have is for electric motors with an rpm of 3000 mini bike and go carts use ones around 900rpm. check amazon alot cheaper for the proper one
At a guess it looks like you may need to raise the tank above the engine for proper fuel delivery, the carb is gravity fed and might not be getting the fuel it needs
No it is above the carburetor and it dosen't ned to be higher
@@thebotz-cd7qg did you read my may and might and guess part of my comment? As that I am not able to actually get hands on the engine all I can do is guess, which is the same thing you're doing I might add.
Powerful and chunky. That’s what my wife says about me.
Legendary comment, also your wife loves you
Gawd damn
I find that hard to swallow
i think u did great. u need to clean the carb an it keep running. i am impressed alec
there are go kart places in england yeh? see if they have any second hand stuff? i know its hard to get this sorta stuff here in AUS
Alec: The steals are in
The cameraman: takes glory shots Alec’s ass
priorities i gotta know if my ass is gonna look good in these pants
Well he is g@y. Probably been waiting for his shot
Colin and Alec would make something phenomenal. Pretty and absolutely mad as well.
Alec, after your Colin Furze collab is finished, collaborate with Matt Estlea! Please! Build a desk, or a chest of drawers, an entertainment center, or anything else that lets Matt do the woodwork and you do the ironwork (hinges, drawer runners, knobs, locks, etc.).
This is one of Alex's best videos in longtime good work man
Ain't nothing wrong with that human-powered scooter.
only when trying to flee zombies
Make sure the gas tank vent is clear. Might just be a tiny hole in the cap.
Explanation to those who dont get this, if gas tank does not get air to replace fuel that is used, this creates vacuum that prohibits fuel getting into carb and starves engine from fuel, even going lean air/fuel mixture that is dangerous for engines. Fuel caps tend to have small hole and some even have one way valve to prevent fuel from exiting but still allowing air to get into fuel tank.
To test this theory, you can either remove the gas cap, or place it on very loosely so it can vent.
In Indonesia, we use vespa 2t. 😌 We call it "vespa otopet"
Likely needs the carb cleaned and it'll run a LOT better! Nice work
2:03 made me wonder if I somehow ended up on the wrong site
The Collin Furze comment made my day and I was also glad to hear you two live so close! Make a collab!
I cried at that quick clip of Colin laughing at you!
Cutch springs might be a bit strong? For efficiency, you want it to start grabbing just above idle. For speed you want it to grab hard at the rpm the engine makes peek torque.
Alec you might need to adjust the idle speed on the engine also check the spark plug, oil, airfilter fuel filter and oil filter as it doesnt seem like you have done that and its better to check and find that they are all fine than them causing problems as a dirty air filter could result in rich combustion and more carbon monoxide being produced, fuel not being fully combusted a decresed power and an incresed likelyhood of stalling. A fouled plug could result in it not creating a spark though i dont think its a problem from the sound of it and dirty oil is just bad for the engine as it will wear down the parts quicker also if its old the oil might have degraded if you do have to replace the oil you should replace the oil filter as well.
Perhaps the compressions rings, that around the piston, is lay down in a ditches?(typical problem for all old engines)
A new spark plug never hurt anything either. Actually, I bet it’s more of a carb issue. A new one would be the best for him, but a rebuild kit and a bit of carb cleaner would probably do just as well.
"He didn't say it was broken..."
Alec the entire intake assembly is held to the plastic covers that prevent you from burning yourself with painters tape lmao
That was a fuel tank that had been taped to the engine because the fuel tank is not designed to mount onto the engine. It mounts to the frame of the chainsaw which is separate from the engine itself. Hence, whoever removed the engine taped the fuel tank to the block to keep it all together.
I have the same fan, it's not a bad unit.
You should do a few part series on modifying the s4!
As a mechanic does a couple things you need to check check your spark plug to make sure that it's working and it's a good one also you might want to get some carburetor clean on clean out the carburetor see they junk in there try those two things
I feel so much better now that its finished
yep time for a collaboration there Alec. go storm the Furze bunker and don't forget the safety tie
Think u have more room for throttle.. Might try checking the Jets on the carb and if feeling frisky, get in and take out the governer
For 30, I'd Chuck it and by a new one from harbor freight. They're direct copy of a Honda and are built to spec surprisingly enough
I just said the same thing, I should have read a few more comments
Its so funny seeing blacksmith alec in an audio XD
Your fan gag blew me away!
I love the silly stuff between Jamie and Alec
Putting the sprocket close to the engine in order to get the clutch outside would be a cool improvement.
Go Alec go !!!!!!!
Man if i could count how many times ive heard that 2:03
Could be
1. Rings on cylinder
2. Vent on gas cap plugged
3. Hole in fuel line letting air in .
4. Fuel filter partially blocked
5. Spark plug fouled
I can see Alec putting effort in to pronouncing tube correctly. Bravo
The consensus seems to be that that motor needs love. My first answer is clean the carb, if it sat long enough for the fuel to go bad, the carb needs a scrub.
This video makes me remember somethin Grady from Practical Engineering once said about engineering...
"An engineer's job isn't only to have something functional... It's also to know how much material you can take away."
(Don't quote me on that quote, but it's basically the same idea)
So... You should probably make it lighter! (Because Newton's 2nd law is a thing too!)
