I'm not a speedrunner myself, but I've really enjoyed keeping up with the BG3 speedrunning community & it's nice to have these crazy-looking techniques properly explained :)
Great video, thanks! I did get hung up on the Nautiloid Skip because I didn't realize I should be mashing Z to leap. I am unable to do shadowboxing, but going the controller/no-boxing method worked for me. Excited and waiting for act 2 (then 3 and 4)
I am super excited for this updated tutorial series! I am still having a lot of trouble getting the nautiloid jump even after watching those clips that people uploaded in the discord. I can maybe get it once out of ten attempts. I suppose my angle is a tiny bit off. Just beat my first honour mode run and want to learn the speedrun as well. Thank you so much for all the effort. I can't wait for your videos for acts 2 and 3. I don't particularly want to downpatch the game all the time because I have some campaigns with friends as well. I watched this video so much already and got act 1 down to around 6 minutes.
don't know how much this will help, but I had a lot more luck hitting the skip when I turned my graphics down to the bare minimum, it slightly changes the way the ship looks in tactical view and I was able to find some visual clues present in other videos that helped with my attempts.
As for today, it's working. You can do ghoul skip normaly but it is kinda tricky nad can take few atempts. What i noticed is that it is easier to cast mist litle bit closer, jump inside and make sure nobody looks the way you will land. Also make sure your character don't walk before doing jump because they can walk out of fog. Other thing is, if you strugle at ship skip at beginning, aim as far to the right side as possible and as far as possible. Any way good luck for all trying and thank you for this tutorial.
Have been running on Patch 4 wanted to learn again, thx! Now falling through the nautiloid skip confused me big time, but save/reload works. In the latest runs I've also seen a different Shadowbox in Act II to enter the oubliette, hope to get the details in this format as well. But that route would also add buying the invisibility potion here before leaving the Mountain Pass.
If anyone is having trouble with those zombies and fog cloud and don’t mind adding an extra 10 mins to your run, after the Naut, jump down to the beach near Astarion, one crate always has picking tools. Jump back to Astarion, recruit, disengage party, jump as in this vid but grab Guidance necklace for lock picking bonus and keep jumping but turn north to head to Goblin camp after cave/traps. Go to Goblin Camp sigil, get Astarion to fast travel there. Cast leap on him, and get him to sneak up behind Dror Ragzlin and loot the treasure right up the back. If you fail, heaps of chests/barrels to loot and can buy some more tools off Roah. Once you got the treasure go back to Roah and she always has an Invisibility Potion you can grab for Mountain Pass Undead. Continue as normal.
NB. Shadowheart will have to summon the Drider in Act 2 because Tav will have used Illithid Power to get into Goblin Camp. Astarion used his to get into Shattered Sanctum. Make sure she does 2nd dialogue with Kansif.
I will not speedrun bg3 but I recently lost in my honor mode run and i dont want to do it all over again so this will help me skip the first part. Thank u!
Awesome video. I’m going to sub because you keep popping up in my recommended lol. Also, unrelated but imo, an urchin is better than a criminal for reasons I’ll keep to myself. 🤫
At the end can you still skip the high hall courtyard fight with invisibility after patch 6? Ive heard people say it doesnt work or doesnt bring your party members to the brain stem?
I cannot for the life of me get the shadowbox to work T.T I've been trying for two hours and have watched every freaking video/read every tutorial and still cant get it to work.
Can you go more in to why Karmic Dice are helpful? My searching online has most shown players claiming it's actually worse, but those are more focused on more traditional playthroughs, not glitchy ones. Is it just because you aren't doing combat and looking to avoid really low rolls?
So Karmic Dice balances out dice rolls. It reduces streaks of awful and exceptional luck, so you won't have occasions of failing a dice roll many times in a row. One big part that Karmic Dice has is that it skews all numbers to be slightly higher. This means that you're less likely to roll 1s / 2s yourself which is very good for speedruns. In more traditional playthroughs, it also means that enemies will be much more likely to hit, which is terrible in a casual playthrough since you'll take a ton more damage from enemy attacks. Technically if you want to cheat the system, having Karmic Dice on during your turn to have higher attack rolls for yourself, then turning it off during an enemy's turn will give you an insane advantage, which is even higher on tougher difficulties too. Since there's not too much combat overall, and we just want to ensure we hit the rolls we want, Karmic dice being on helps a lot with consistency in runs, although in a different category which may have a lot of combat in the future, it might be better to turn it off.
@@ChronosReturns Well that's an incredibly descriptive and helpful response. Thank you very much! I'm in the process right now of getting a few Tavs through your guide here (with the thought being I could save time later if I die on your part 2 guide lol). Just wanted to point something out that you probably already know, but just in case: After getting Lae'zel, if you walk back a few steps toward Shadowheart with Lae'zel following, she quickly stops you and brings up a dialogue about some runes she sees on the path. After the short dialogue you get just enough XP to hit lvl 2. It seems like you could optimize that little detour to take less than 10 seconds, and I don't know, maybe leveling to 2 here instead of later could help in optimization. Just thought I'd point that out in the unlikely scenario that that wasn't already accounted for. Great vid, and keep up the good work!
@@SmoketySm0ke That's pretty cool to know! Currently we don't need any extra experience in the run, and if we do, in Act 2 when we purge the pods before the Ketheric Fight it gives a ton of experience, so it probably isn't necessary, but it may matter in the future.
I am pretty sure that properly analyzing the impact of karmic dice requires thousands of playthroughs. Big numbers. Pretty much anything coming from just one player who did many runs will be statistically insignificant.
@@Sergey-wg7ne There's been a few posts that have been about Karmic Dice, one of them is this one here showcasing Karmic dice with 500 attack rolls by enemies on different difficulties (around 3000 rolls total). On higher difficulties, Karmic Dice tended to have higher rates of attack rolls of 11-20 at 80% on Tactician compared to 50% without Karmic Dice. www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/16svj71/comparing_500_enemy_rolls_with_vs_wo_karmic_dice/ Of course, it is important to not base everything on one post, but most people complaining don't do enough of their own testing which is why there is a lot of complaints or disagreement about Karmic Dice. Larian has also made changes to Karmic Dice over the past few months, changing some bugs with it, along with other factors, so it can be odd. Overall though, there is a general consensus that Karmic Dice on results in higher rolls for everyone, including your player character and any npcs.
Is the route still doable now for console? I am wanting to follow this as I don’t want to suffer through the honour mode. Has anything been patched out of this route?
Trying to Speedrun all acts on act 2 right now. It seems the Ketheric Witch Bolt strategy has been patched. Is there any other route through right now besides using gale like in the glitchless route?
@@ChronosReturns Thanks a bunch for responding! Turns out I was just bad and not standing far enough back on the ledge. I'm all the way up to the elder brain but the invisibility strategy doesn't seem to work anymore as all the characters break concentration when climbing the brain stem. Is there some new way to get to the Elder Brain or am I just missing something again?
If you're having difficulty, you can describe what's going wrong, what platform you're on, and what is happening so I can help a bit more, otherwise if you have a video of an attempt or a couple of attempts I could also take a look at it.
What's the point of 17 strength or 15 intelligence? Why not put those points somewhere else and respec if you want to take advantage of a +1 from an item or feat?
Maxed strength is important for jump distance, which is very useful for going fast from just general movement and for parts like Nautiloid where you need as much strength to reach the transponder as a short character due to a Halfling's or Gnome's base movement speed during turn based mode being shorter than other characters. For intelligence, you need 14 intelligence for 3 prepared spells. You could put the last point / 2 points anywhere, constitution is generally done for safety, but for going fast having higher health means you kill your own character a bit slower for some parts, which isn't super important for most runs, but important for going fast in other cases. There aren't really other important places to use the +1 otherwise from my knowledge, but that could change in the future if something else is found.
The majority of the people in the BG3 speedrun community are focusing on Patch 4 runs at the moment, since it is the fastest patch to run on (although Patches 1 and 2 should also be fine along with even earlier ones), but the average person isn't going to downpatch their game as it takes a lot of storage space, people want golden dice on their profile, and console runners don't have the ability to do so either, so I want to make sure that people can do it and hopefully make it so people start trying out current patch runs.
Been trying the shadowbox not sure what's going wrong. Find the chasm, try to 2 tick down, if too much move back up and try again. Then basically follow the route. Put down the box and click it open and then click and hold to drag around but the box doesn't teleport.
Anxiously expecting part 2 of this!

As a tip if you're just trying to get the achievement/trophy quickly you can save frequently and force quit the game and reload at least on PS5

I would be very interested in watching the glitchless guide :)
lets goooo
Hi, great content! I do not seem to be able to do the last bit with the fog cloud. For some reason it always initiates combat:/
Make sure fog cloud does not hit an enemy with its cast, otherwise the enemies will start combat with you.
32:00 for second part of act1
This is so cool, thank you! Do you know how many of these pixel-sized exploits were found?
huge

hello FINALLY !!
what glitches are necessary for acts 2 and 3?
The only glitches that are required for this route / tutorial will be wall clips, which should be doable on every platform.
How does playing as the dark urge affect this playthrough? Is it possible to get Sins of the Father achievement? And Bhaal’s ending?
I cant get the fog cloud trick to work, they catch me everytime as I jump out of the cloud or before I cast the cloud
