Thanks for posting this video, I just got my 800 a few days ago and this video helped alot. I went from using a Fisher F75 to the 800 and the difference in performance is amazing, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
hi because of this video I went to the field behind my house and tested a setting on park 1 that only included numbers 12, 13 and all numbers from 19-40. I used the accept/reject button to delete all the other numbers. I had a very nice hunt and barely dug any junk and found 3 coins in an hour and amazingly a silver tiger eye ring. this was very helpful
Nice video. The 4 Park and Field modes give basically the same VDIs in air test and in ground, except on deeper targets. I have coins buried at 10 to 12 inches, Park 1 and Field 1 gives very close to air test VDIs or higher. Park 2 and Field 2 gives much lower numbers on these deep targets. Some single digit numbers that jump around, but the audio response is much louder than P1 and F1. Just something you might want to check out if you are interested in digging deep coins, this was more noticeable on copper pennies and silver dimes.
I really look forward to your videos! You are one of the best teachers for the hobby I've seen. You explain things very well for those of us that are new to detecting. It def is a learning process. Because of you I bought the ML E 800. I was wondering.. in the winter (or fall) when the ground starts to harden up does that change the detection dynamics of the coil being used and the VDI information? Does mine lab use presets for different modes based upon their testing? And could I just run FP setting for most of my detecting?? The advanced settings are way above my level. AGAIN, thanks for your time and dedication for getting us (me) new guys and gals started!
Thank you John. You can use the factory settings any time and I recommend that you do while you are learning your 800. The vdi will not change but I suggest listening for the repeatable signals and dig them rather than relying on what number pops up on the display. Too many people trust the vdi and pass on good targets. The vdi is only a reference and cannot be trusted.
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting I def believe that! Can you assign tones for specific things like quarters and dimes, (or silver)? Or just listen for constant tones?
good to see the nickels are about 12-13 Mostly the pulltabs are about 15 - still struggling with the tones on this machine compared to E-Trac but love how the EQ800 hits small gold and chains etc..
Would be nice if someone came out with a sticker to go on your rod some how for targets or on screen just say 1cent 5cent 10 cent ect! LOL gold ring chain 45cent?
Thanks for another great video! I am anxious to see a video using this settings out in the field. The soil makes all the difference. I recently found a 1893 O barber and it rang up a solid 28. In a two week period and only a couple miles apart I found 2 seated dimes. The one in clay came up a solid 26 and the other in high iron came up 27. The wheats I have found come up 23-24. This is the only thing i do not like about the NOX is a number/s can be a multitude of different things . While I feel my CTX is more reliable with identifying what is under the coil I can’t find squat with it in iron infested areas. I would love to see a video where you are using it in high iron areas. Not to embarrass you but you used the word “visual”. Nice to have someone creating these videos who is easy on the eyes! 🧐😎. Thanks for another uncomplicated video! Peggy
Thank you Peggy, I am almost ready to start detecting again. My mom died in November and then I injured my arm which put me in surgery and my arm is sti not good but should be getting some new detecting content soon. Thanks for the compliment ☺️
Sod Busters Metal Detecting so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother🥺. our arms are pretty necessary for this hobby😬. 2 weeks after turning 59 I ran across a busy street with my dog and the median didn’t see me. It wasn’t pretty ugly and it was awhile before I got back in the swing of things. I feel so blessed that at 63 I can swing for hours and walk up and down foothills leaving my male detecting partners in the dust, dirt, mud, water, whatever! Hang in there!
I'm glad you are doing good. Feel free to find my Sod Busters Metal Detecting group on Facebook I also have a page but the group is where it is more active.
That 24k ring must be super chunky. It seemed to ring up awfully high on the VDI. Thanks for posting this it gives a good relative comparison between targets.
Onoy had mine aweek wish you wld hv given your opinion on which you thought seemed best ..for a newbie they all almost sounded the same🤔 thanks fir the video info tho
For a beginner I would say the Garrett AT PRO. It is a very good detector and is easy to use. Each detector has their own learning curve but there are many good ones and it really boils down to what price range you are willing to pay. Thanks for watching and good luck out there hunting treasure.
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting oh yeah.. I just searched a big field today and it was full of so much crap.. Lol.. The detector was going crazy, I was just cherry picking the numbers.. but at 1st I was digging everything and I had it on-field 2 with iron turned off at 1st .. Crazy Mess.. it was my dad's land and he's been living there for 30 years and no one has searched Yet that he knows of.. I found a ton of Civil War bullets and round balls.. No coins at all . I was only there for 2 hrs.. Going back tomorrow morning for a longer dig
@@SodBustersMetalDetecting One more thing.. I let my Dad use my Garrett At Pro and when I left he was still digging.. Lol.. He's pushing 84 years old now and he gets around better than me.. I can't believe it..
The new software update 2.0 that came out in September that is supposed to do away with the trash ferrous readings. I’ve been reading about a few grumblings from others saying that it has thrown off their VDI numbers. Honestly, since I’ve installed it, my success (or luck) rate has improved quite a bit with finding coins and a lot less nails. Aluminum on the other hand, is still my number 1 nemesis lol.
I think it’s worth a try. At least you can roll it back if you don’t like it- unlike a lot of other software updates. Keep up the great videos. I’m always eager to learn more about my hobby!
I might do that Chuck. My mom passed away 2 nights ago so I may not have a video for next week but I will be back to it after all has been taken care of and I can breath again. Thank you so much.

I know these videos are 2 years old, I just purchased a Minelab 800 switched from. Garrett AT Pro. I’m gonna do the same test. Thanks
They are still good today. Thanks for watching
I primarily hunt in Park 1 and in Multi. When i hit a iffy signal i switch to 4 khz and if it clears up pretty good with a solid # i dig it!

The tones will be second nature before long. It's a great machine. I have many tutorials on the Equinox 800 on my channel. Happy hunting

Pocket card would be nice tryed with printer but no luck
You should be able to print this. images.app.goo.gl/8kN6Ywsid47tPe3E7
It came through blurry it looks like but Google equinox 800 vdi chart
Yesterday I was playing around and used a bow stabilizer on the back of stock shaft. It really took the nose weight off the detector
Will the tones be any different when the items are buried?
Depends on if there is objects next to the target , depth, position of the target and such. Many variables.

What type of spade do you use to dig tough clay ground and approx Australia ground hard and the knife cutter heeds help or my hands do

My brother and Ben always use park 1. Me however, I like field 1. Seems allot more stable
I tend to use field 2 after this test
How many tone were you set at. 5 or 50. Never heard you mention the number of tones. Thx for the info
I always run 5 tones
Thank you awesome

Oh you mean program. I would use park 1 until you get comfortable with the sounds and get a few digs under your belt.
I did not notice much of a difference in park 1,2 and field 1,2
No the tones and vdi are the same
Thanks for the information !!! Awesome video !!!
thanks for watching
Does it make any difference if the edge of the coin or the flat is to the coil
Yes you will get a stronger signal when the coin is flat.
Wow man... Thank you so much for the info... I wrote all of these down.. So cool..
Just remember the numbers can vary depending on depth, ground conditions and position of the item in the ground. Happy hunting

so in other words, dig everything that has a high tone, lol
And anything that gives a solid signal including mid and low tones. Gold comes in at lower to mid ranges so it pays to dig all solid signals
I am disappointed you didn't use a pull tab..... *subscribed, would apericate same
Boring but useful !
