Wow - that's quite some trip in total. 7,900' strip - that's certainly ''up there' - wonder what actual density altitude was but, daresay an easier landing in the caravan than some other rides! The Greenland folks probably know you quite well thinking of various long trips, and some other stops probably the same!.
Nice job Guido and again an excellent bit of editing, and some nice stills. About 15 stops - can hardly guess total mileage covered!! Best wishes.
Hi Chris,
at 20C temperature the density altitude was approx. 10,200ft.
As a turbine engine is mot 'turbocharged" it affects the performance significantly, especially during take off.

@@GuidoWarnecke I'm no longer an active pilot (have a PPL) but enjoy flying the Caravan in X-Plane. You're right it's not built for speed but for utility, and it shines in that category. Look at how many are flown by FedEx feeders, although it looks like the Cessna SkyCourier will be replacing at least some of those. I'm glad you mentioned about subscribing. I thought I surely was already subscribed, but when I checked my list you weren't there. So you've gained another subscriber! Always look forward to your vids.
Thank you. What aircraft model do you use in Xplane to emulate the Caravan? Is it from a third party provider?
The Skycourier will be hot seller over time after it has built some hours at Fedex. The fleet of Twin Otters is aging.
@@GuidoWarnecke I use the Thranda Caravan. They supply both the standard model as well as the Grand Caravan, which is what I generally fly. This provider has some interesting features, such as the ability to change the livery or the panel on the fly. From what I've heard the flight model is very accurate.
I have the same but remember to have had problems to switch on/off the G1000
Once again Guido, very nice. As a thought, is it possible for you to place a camera aimed at your primary glass display??
Thank you.
For future videos I will consider a multi-camera set up.

Amazing. I realize much more of this flight is over land, and much safer, but would a route over Pacific with 2 pilots and a ferry tank, via HI or Marianas have been possible? Cheers.
Hi John,
the aircraft is registered in Peru, tanking would have been extremely complicated for the paperwork and certification.
I do also the ultra-long flights single pilot. Tanking it is an option but the pros and cons need to be analyzed.

Hi-alt fields are tricky in the 208 given its power reserve.
Watching out for stalls is paramount.
You are absolutely correct.
Density altitude was 10,200ft.
The PT6 Turbine engine is actually not "turbocharged". so the power loss is significant.
Thanks for your comment and for supporting my UA-cam Chanel.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Awesome as ever Guido. One question: why flaps 20 for high elevation? For the same approach IAS control response/authority should be the same, but adjusting the Vref for flaps 20 would yield a higher TAS/GS and greater landing energy.
Thank you Connor.
you are correct in your comment. At high elevation you have to weigh up two things: GS is higher with flaps 20 (as you mentioned correctly), but go around capability is much degraded with flaps full.
Some aircraft have tire speed limits. for Citation jets it is 160kts, but that is not a limitation in a C208. My touch down was at 80 knots with a ground speed of around 95.
Remember the PT6 turbine is not "turbocharged" it looses a lot of power at that altitude.

Great video as always, Guido! How long does it takes to reach FL250? It´s the service ceilling of the Caravan, isn´t?
Hi Andrë,
I use the high altitude flying for safety and efficiency as the legs are sometimes very long.
Depending on temperature it takes from 45min to 1 hour for the climb.
The long flights are typically around 6 hours.

Happy Landings,

Love your videos Guido. I’m new to aviation, but why not fly directly across to Africa from South America? Is it a range issue if you don’t the extra fuel tanks?
Hi Ovi,
to fly a more direct route you would need to install extra tanks.
For a Peruvian registered aircraft that would have been very complicated.
I have done ferry flights with tanked Cessna Caravans.
example here:

Wow! You've flown so many types of aircraft. Did you have any practice or training before flying each different aircraft?

@@GuidoWarnecke thank you, from Western Australia 👍
I do not have any G1000 experience but I am curious, can you display GS on the PFD? To my understanding it is typically displayed on the MFD.
Hi Nick,
you can only display GS on the PFD. TAS is displayed on the PFD. I do not know the reason for this.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Very interesting, capt Warnecke. Isn't the Caravan unpressurized? with such high enroute altitudes I imagine you spend a lot of time on O2?
Yes, the Caravan is not pressurized.
So I had to use supplemental oxygen.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Always interesting. Do you ever get time at home??
Thank you Diego.
Yes, I spend also time at home.
The days during ferry flights are very intense.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Wow! long trip. How many days was the trip?
It was a trip of 9 days and 95:30h flight time.
Not a sightseeing trip.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke Across the entire planet with just yourself and the plane in just 9 days. Wow what a adventure. Dream job
Hi capt!. Why the flaps give the aircraft better controlability in high terrain? (By the way your Spanish accent is excelent).
Hi Mauricio,
from flap zero to flap 20 the flaps produce mostly more lift. From 20 degrees to 30 degrees the flaps add mostly drag.
In case of a go around at high altitude, flap 30 would produce a lot of drag.
The engine performance of the PT6 turbine is also degraded at altitude because the PT6 turbine is not "turbocharged" and loses about 35% power at that altitude.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
@@GuidoWarnecke i
Infinite thanks Guido for always teaching me. Every time I ask you and you answer me I always learn. Good flights.
When did they change from runway 19 to runway 18 ???
I do not know that.
Due to change of magnetic variation (runway directions are magnetic) this happens quite a lot.
My home base FALA changed from 06 to 07.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
Hi Guido,
I notice you are solo on these long arduous trips . Is that a financial decision or just your preference. I would think that you would have to be like Kissinger when you are in some of these countries as well. I would like to do what you do. I would like to know it this type of work is higher paying than most pilot jobs. I have more questions but I will leave there. Thanks for the insight, it got my attention.
For several reasons - mostly personal - I do most of the flights single pilot.
Ferry flying is a small niche in aviation with very special requirements and challenges.
It is not a job one should be in for the money.
Happy Landings,

Oil pressure in the yellow at 46C OAT: Is that normal or a cause for concern?
At idle power on the ground all ok.
In flight that would be prohibitive.

Would you fly this route in winter without deicing boots?
Hi David,
yes I do regularly.
You have to plan very conservatively.
Safety is first.
Happy Landings,
Capt. Guido
How long did it take you to go from Peru to Indonesia?
Hallo Josue,
it was 95:30h flight time which I did in 9 days.
Ferry flying is not tourist flying...

@@GuidoWarnecke Thanks. What a trip!
Der alte Flughafen in Quito war sicherlich noch herausfordernder.
Hallo Heiko,
davon bin ich überzeugt. Es gibt Videos davon.
Auch der Flughafen Sucre in Bolivien wurde "entschärft".
