Bought this randomly 3 years ago and this beauty has been with me for thick and thin with little demand for care! Stays a vibrant green even after weeks of no water and barely any sunlight. Favorite plant I have ever owned! Sprouts new growth out of nowhere. Never repotted it. I finally just started talking to it- called her beautiful I think she turned even greener lol.

Once a month it gets several days sabbatical to the bathroom for a good soak, drain, rinse the leaves ...then within 3 days back to the shelf in the vampire layer lol love it

I have to repot my ZZ plant and realized that I don't know how deep should rhizomes sit? I search high and low, but the information about it is very different. Some say they should never be covered by soil completely, others say they the light can kill them, cover with the soil very good. So what do you suggest? Really desperate here 😄🌿
P.S.: never mind, I found that in you other video, about ZZ propagation 😄 cover with soil, they don't like the sun 😎 THANK YOU 💞💖

I’m enjoying and very quickly relying on your channel to see the various sizes of any given plant species, I had not seen a large ZZ Plant and knew if I come here you will have it. It’s extremely helpful as it helps on making a decision on whether a plant will aesthetically work in a given place in the home, however, it would be nice if you could show us a full photo of the large plants, I realize the inconvenience of having to stop filming to back up the camera but I think even a inserted photo would do the trick! Thank you for this video guys! Nobody ever goes into this much detail about ZZs, it's usually like "Oh, ZZs are easy, don't worry about them" And I like to have a full understanding of what I'm doing, even if it's something as simple as growing a ZZ plant.
I also have an unrelated question today, for one of your future Q & A videos. There isn't a lot of natural light in my house (probably a common problem for many plant lovers) so I installed a few grow lights to support my plants, at least in winter. But I keep them on at night (they are in the kitchen), and turn them off for the day. The plants seem to be doing pretty well under them, even growing. But I heard that plants need darkness just as much as they need light. Is that true? Will I eventually harm my plants if I keep it up like that? My grow lights are full spectrum (daylight), they also serve me as lamps (the plants are just gathered right under them) so it makes sense to turn them on as it gets dark and then I just leave them on until the morning. I think the plants under those lights get more light during the night than during the day, because they are all tucked away in pretty dark corners where the sunlight doesn't reach. But those plants hardly get any pitch black darkness. Should I change what I'm doing?

I have a zz that is about 10 years old. It is very large. I don’t have any problems that you described. But, it seems the older stems are bending at a 90 degree angle. This is happening to 4 or 5 stems. Wondering if there is a reason for this. The larger bigger branches really droop and so I have a ring supporting the whole plant. Thank you

I have one. If you trim the top, will it get wider/ fill out at the sides??? The one I purchased was over watered from the garden center. I took it out of the pot after much struggle since it had become pot bound, and just repotted it with soil for succulant plants so that the plant would have a chance to dry out . I placed it in indirect light in a clay pot and it's doing well. I like that you take the time to give the information needed on the plants along with suggestions for the care of each. Thanks so much from GEORGIA.

I just watched a video from a plant specialist from Zambia on the channel "Plant one for me" They were repotting one that was horribly root bound and it was flowering, but he said it was because the plant was very stressed and overcrowded so it was trying to propagate elsewhere. I guess it could flower for both reasons.

I do half hydroponics (plants in water) and half in soil. I took two clippings of my ZZ that was being crowded out and put them in water (a small vase). 3+ months and they still look beautiful, and have sprouted roots (took a long time). So they work for hydroponics too.

Amazing!! I’ve got a question, I have a ZZ plant that it’s rhizomes has gotten bigger and pressed the walls of the pot so I repotted it in bigger one, but months later I could see a rhizome popping out the surface, shull I repot it again?!! Because I think the pot is still the right size except for that rhizome that is showing a little bit on surface and there is no room to cover it with potting soil. I’m wondering what to do , is it going to be Ok if I left it partially exposed?

If your plant is in pumice soil, how do you know that the center of the plant that was planted in normal soil is dry enough. Specially with adult Zizi plant since it is hard to get through it if your zizi plant is full of roots and rhizomes which don't allowed you to really feel the soil? Thank you

I have a Gigantic very old ZZ that lived with horrible neglect in a shopping mall for at least 15-20 years. Many of the tall stems are spread wide and bent. Are there any regenerative pruning methods to correct its growth pattern? It is in about a 7 gallon pot and really needs to be divided- I need to get prepared to cut the pot off. The rhizomes look woody and are actually growing above the surface level. It still puts out new healthy growth, but the existing growth looks terrible. Also, there are lot of dark coloration on the stems... maybe cavities you refer to from lack of water. (I also live in the desert and it's an extremely dry climate). Thank you for your help! Heather

If the branches get too long, what would be the best way to trim the branches?

    • @M43782
      @M43782 2 роки тому

There are not branches. There are rachises. The plant has complex leaves. The stem is underground or close to the ground. What can do you? As he mentioned you can find for the plant a little bit cooler place. You can cut the leaves to make them shorter. It won't harm the plant but it can make it a bit ugly. You can also find a plant variety which it grows smaller by its nature. But usually ZZ plant is a quite large plant.

I love my ZZ plant. In California, you gotta say plant with an A. Otherwise sounds like you are saying plont . Pretend you are a cowboy and say plAnt. Yes, I mostly just speak one language. Yes, I appreciate that you speak English so well, just had to give you a hard time. I have already just replanted my ZZ, but will be sure to let it dry out and not over water it. Thanks.

I enjoyed this video. I believed I have 2 different type of ZZ and I was happy to hear that I was not just imagining something.
I have a question. A friend of mine "pruned" her ZZ and was leaving the rest to die. A plant lover myself I could not bear to see it and now I want to revive it. Can you give me some tips what I can do other than cleaning the root system and putting it in fresh soil? In other words how can I revive it?

If you already replant it in a new pot and clean soil. Set it aside especially in shady place. It is very easy for them to grow in a shady place. Don't water it everyday. You can water them every after 3 days or 2x a week. In order for the roots to survive. If you water them everyday, the roots will rot.

Ive been looking for a zz plant for along time, and today I found one! I bought it came home and went to You Tube to find out as much as possible about the zz plant. I chose your videos and I haven't been disappointed with the information!. Thank you very much. Infact I might even do some propagating... very happy 😁👍👍 plus every question I have for the zz plant you already have the answers. It can't get any better than that...unless you know different? Which I doubt 👍👍

You can use a half universal soil and a half of sand as a soil for ZZ plant.

Hi there! First of all, Tks for sharing your knowledge, I was not expecting to learn so many things I’ve been doing wrong! Definitely my ZZ is a survivor! The only problem is that I still haven’t found the information I’m looking for: what to do with my far too tall ZZ?? I’ve got that with about 30cm heigh and now, 10 years later, it’s like a 1.5m not so good looking arched plant. Could I give it a prune??? Thank you :)

I was givin my first ZZ plant. I had never heard of them till then. I'm glad I found you on You tube. My plant was in a tericota pot. I think now it is way too big. Should I replant it to a smaller pot or will it be ok ?

My ZZ plant has a few yellow leaves on around 3 stalks and 2 new growth stalks are drooping touching the floor.. im confused whether this is due to over or under watering and possibly root rot:( any suggestions on the cause please?

Every plant needs to drain out, yet we are instructed to use broken pieces of tile where the holes of the pot are. If this is the case, how does the water drain out? I'm confused

I put my ZZ plant in a large pot two months ago... after watching this video, I think maybe the pot may be too large. Should I leave it as is, or should I move it back to a smaller pot?

Place it under your house's roof is the best to avoid over watering due to rain and too much of sunlight exposure.
