- We did not ad advice on what type of soil to use. You can use any type of normal potting soil but it should be with good drainage so mix it with some leca (heated clay pebbles), pumice or perlite.
Cactus soil also works fine but needs to be able to hold a a little bit more water. Some cactus soils doesn’t so it can be a good idea to mix it with normal potting soil (50/50).

The Sansevieria has recently been included in the genus Dracaena on the basis of molecular phylogenetic studies. Since the most commonly used name still is Sansevieria that is the name we use in this video.
Thanks for watching! 🌱 - Навчання та стиль
there is NO other you tuber that give as much detailed information as you. Thank you, so very much!!
You are doing a big favor to all the plants sitting in neglecting box stores. I love to buy sick plants and rescue them.

I've learned so much from you Swedish plant guy and it gives me the encouragement to really take care of my plants.
I hope you have some videos regarding crotons...
I had 2 classic Snake Plants for almost 10 years and treatet them kinda badly :D. But they are stunning und today I gifted myself a Sensvieria Moonlight and after this video, I'll take better care for them all :D. Thanks a lot
Thank you

Excellent
thanks for the info. I love snake plants too.
I would love it if you made a video on fern care :-)
Hi Thank you for sharing a very detailed and informative video.
My question is- will it damage the sanseveria if it is placed outdoor once a week to receive indirect sunlight then bring it indoor again after one day of indirect sunlight? My sanseveria is placed indoor with very low light which causes the leaves to turn very light green to almost white due to lack of indirect sunlight.
Please advise . will highly appreciate. Thanks
.. I take mine outside from May 1st and don't bring them back in before sometime in October.. Outside they stay on my front porch where they enjoy a couple of hours with bright sunlight, and the rest of the day in bright shaded light.. When inside for the winter they live in a Eastern and western window and it seems to suit them perfectly fine.. I water maybe once a month or once every other month.. One of mine is actually a Moonshine.. So you just go ahead a put them outside along with all your other plants.. They will love you for it 🌞🤗
Do you have a video on Prayer Plants? I need some info on 2 I just bought. Any information would be great from you! Thank you!
Sansevieria were reclassified as Dracaena, no?
It was reclassified back in 2017 to Dracaena trifasciata. so people are still using their synonyms but when they don't mention Dracaena to begin with they are calling this plant by the incorrect name.
If you listen in the beginning of the video he mentions the reclassification.
Can you you do a video about Monstera Adansonii?
Hello i just purchased a snake plant. I placed it under a grow light. Within a week it started to lose its yellow stripes and turn green. What could this mean? Thank you.
Such wonderful tips! I have a few calathea, two in self watering pots with pon as the substrate layer and potting soil as the medium, and two in self watering pots in complete pon. How long do I wait to refill the reservoir once the meter reads empty? I know the pumice mixture retains some water, but it is difficult to push your finger into this type of mixture to feel for moisture.
.. Try with a wooden stick or a moisture meter.. When almost dry as in very low moisture, you water again..
Perfect! Can you insert subtitles in portuguese?
These in depth videos about a specific plant species are so helpful! Thanks for making them
Oh well that was very informative appreciate the video what I learned are the following :
1) when purchasing look for a green bright plant with thick cuticle, and no burn on its edges or black spots on it, which would indicate it have fungus.
2) do not immediately repot it let it in the nursery container for a while before switching.
3) water it when it is bone dry, otherwise it might have fungus or root rot.
4) place it in a place where it has indirect sunlight. direct sunlight might make its colour look faded
5) when cutting it cut it from the bottom at a soil level to avoid it not looking burned and unpleasant otherwise it's alright to cut it at whatever length.
6) give it a fertilizer 3 times a year any fertilizer works at its activate periods, mix it with water to dilute it.
7)wipe it buy using a fiber tiscue that is wet.
8) spray it with a pestsizer or green soap with water in case of a pest issue.
generally water it less and it's good, It's an excellent choice for your bedroom as the plant is active taking out VOC. excellent in your house and can withstand darkness but prefer getting exposed to indirect sunlight.
ممنون بابت اینکه خلاصه را نوشتی❤❤
Very good presentation of the plant and comprehensive care advice. Actually the most comprehensive video I've seen, on UA-cam, about this plant. Thank you, please consider making a video about African violets.
I just love these long, detailed videos about one plant genera. The amount of information and the way it's organised is perfect for me. These are my favourite on this channel ! Thank you so much for taking the time to make them ! I can't wait to see the next one ! (If you ever feel like doing one on the lovely Homalomena, money tree, or Raphidophora tetrasperma, that would be fantastic! ). Take care and thanks again for your awesome videos!!!! 💚💚💚🌱
Love it. It is indeed really easy to take care of. I have mine for a year now, and what I noticed is that the first 7-8 months it didn't grow at all, but now a year later, I have a beautiful mother plant with two babies beside her. They are stunning, growing really fast and it's interesting to watch. I have my plant on an east spot, with a lot of light daily, and some little sun in the morning hours. Watering twice a month, but before that, always inspect the medium. It is truely a stunning plant when you give it the right conditions and needs(altought it can survive anything, except too much water). I do recommend this beauty. It will make your home look more premium. :) Thanks for the video, good information well shared.
What a fantastic learning lesson on the "Snake Plant"! Thank you so much for such a knowledgeable talk. I really learned a lot.
I learned so much. And mostly that I have been doing almost everything wrong. I have a healthy plant but I can totally do better after this video. Thank you.
Very frank Doing everything wrong😂😂it happens with everyone, because we like the plant and bring it home ,
I'm so glad I found this guy, im a new plant lover and I've been searching for a informative channel on these beautiful plant so glad I found you!! Thank you for being so Precise
He provides the most comprehensive information about the plant he is presenting in the way lay people can understand.
Agreed!!
True. Out of all the plant videos I have listened to on the net, he presents his enormous knowledge in a clear and precise manner. He is great.
True. Very clear and easy to understand.
Wrong names on 3 of the 4 Sansevieria in this video.
The one you call
#1 "Laurentii" is a S.trifasciata 'Laurentii'
#2 is a S.trifasciata, zeylonica is a completely different species from a completely different part of the world. If you take a leaf cutting of your trifasciata 'Laurentii' you will get the S.trifasciata. It does not change to a different species, thus the name is wrong.
#3 is a S.roxburghiana, not a kirkii
#4 is a bacularis, but "Mikado" is just a trade name add-on used on multiple plants for leaf cuttings arranged in a pot. Think of the stick game.
A flowering Sansevieria will stop growing, but it will increase the production of offsets.
Root bound is a myth. The number one killer of Sansevieria is overwatering. A larger pot with more soil hold water longer, thus it is not that the plant likes to be root bound, but convenient for the owner to not overwater. Dr. Robert Webb, chairman of International Sansevieria Society said in his video for San Francisco Succulent Society "With Sansevierias, it is all about the roots, so give them room".
I've had my plant for over 12 years it was a little baby, now it's a giant.
My favorite house plant hands down! I believe their are 71 varieties, with more being created constantly. Sans come in so many beautiful forms and colors. The tall standing ones , the birds nest type, and the hedgehog type. I love these beautiful hardy plants so much!
By far the best Snake plant video I've seen on UA-cam, very informative.
Fantastic presentation and another masterclass from you. Thank you :)
I like and enjoy your presentation very knowlegeable. Maybe one day you will talk about "rubber plant" More Power and thank you!
P
So much, I learned and nailed it!!!
I inherited a sansevieria from a friend and watched it slowly die. I stopped watering it so much and it's coming back to life. Thanks for all your great videos.
I love Mother in law tongue. I have propagated 4 plants from the 1 I've had for 5 years. I even had one bloom. I didn't even know they could do that.
I think Sansevierias also cannot tolerate spaces where there’s no air circulation. I had to leave my Sanseverias for two weeks in my flat, closed all windows (as a nearby volcano was acting up), and when I came back, my Sansies were almost dead. Managed to salvage some tho :)
So interesting and honestly the one I bought indicated to make sure to leave soil moist at all times but believe me I'll be letting mine go "bone dry" before I give it more water. Yours all looked so healthy. Thanks again for taking the time to share all your secrets.
You always give excellent and thorough advice! I appreciate your videos SO much! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🌿🌻🙏🌿
Plants are great for our environment filtering our air.
This has been debunked! Show us the science please!
why the yellow and green plant died at indoor it rotted from the base this happened to 2 plants why is this ?
Great video, the only thing I didn’t hear mentioned about the sanseveria is the flopping over of leaves that can occur. What causes this and what can you do?
Good question. After years of growing these plants successfully, two of my mature plants have leaves that are curling and flopping. I am now living with them in a different state in the US and I am wondering if the water supply here is too salty? I was hoping to have this curling issue addressed in the video but it wasn't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This guy literally answered ALL of my concerned questions thank you! 👍🏻
Great information
Love Snake Plants I have about 20 in my home and many different types.I just watchd how too propagate x3 different ways and I pray for success .Thanks
This is one of those plants that likes dry soil until it’s thirsty but be careful when buying from a box store. I have one that was doing so wonderfully for awhile I wasn’t overwatering but all of the sudden stems started to rot even though the soil was dry all the way through I even used a meter to test. So I decided to remove the soil and the roots were long and healthy and the soil around the outside was surprisingly a little damp but the center completely bone dry , so I started to loosen all the soil and I was surprised to find a damp sponge wrapped around the inside of the stems; no wonder there was root rot going on I had no idea that sponge was there. I don’t know why plant nurseries would do this to a drought resistant plant.
I bought today for the first time here in London I always see this plant many palaces like office my favourite plant I have for many years indoor is called schefflera arboricola is amazing beautiful plant easy to take care.
Love your informative videos, so true and complete.
They are now classified as Dracaena. I don't know anyone that calls them that though. 😀
How do i get more shoots do i need to plant it in a smaller pot or change the soil medium
Could I also ask a quick question. One of my Sansevieria sits on the windowsill which gets morning light. The leaves have gone curly - does this mean it's getting too much light?? Thanks.
Love your videos guys...I was apprehensive to watch initially, seeing the duration, but your video on the fiddle-leaf fig gave my plant a new lease of life....and believe it or not, I’m struggling with a snake plant (I know! I know! I’m embarrassed as hell admitting it too!) and this video was just what I needed. So, thank you all the way from India!
This was one of the best bit of information given on a plant. Very thorough and informative.
The tall one to the left of the screen, it's really beautiful!
I think these plants may adapt differently to different climates; they thrive outdoors in full West African sun and heat, people actually make fences with them😁
That is amazing!!! I would LOVE a sansevieria fence! lol too bad I live in Canada..
@@paigeb880 I'm sure that'll be a sight for you!😁 I first saw snake plants indoors in Europe. Growing up, I never knew that snake plants were used for anything but fences, and they can grow tall and formidable.
A fence with snake plants! That I’ve got to see....please post a picture. That must look awesome.
@@paigeb880 LOL
Local fire station has a row of these in their front soil patch out in the sun, all above a meter high absolutely gorgeous. Tropical climate. Every time I go pass I'm so jealous.
I have a snake plant that I made my self from cutting 1 blade. Now after 5 years my snake plant is over 6,5 ft tall from the top of the soil to the top of the blade. it is the king of all my plants.
Thank you ! 💜
May you make a video about Dumbcane plant I have a new one and need to know how to take care of.
With sansevieria, I constantly have to remind myself: When in doubt, let it drought.
That's an excellent memory tool for watering! LOL

Exactly, you only water your sansevieria when you pay your rent, once a month.
I hope I can still save mine. It's starting to get mushy
@@titocardona5677 I have mine in a nursery pot and water it every 8 weeks..
I recommend you to follow and subscribe this channel because they have an intensive research on each topic. 👍👍👍👏👏👏
I have had a trifasciata laurenti for 4 years, almost killed her with root rot (wrong medium too much compacted), and I was really surprised to see that it had new roots, and now is thriving! It’s immortal! 😂 at least in warm climates
it's great that you do not use the silly animation and the sound effects etc. the value of the videos are in the information you give! keep it up :)
instead of cutting the plant when it's getting too big, why not re plant that whole growth with the roots in another pot? If ok, any recommendations?... thank you
I have re-potted a 4-5 foot Sansevaria...but don't overpot! Too easy then to overwater. Also have some rig ready to hold it steadily upright until the roots start growing into the new soil. Good luck.
After to listening to this and having just transplanted mine, I swear I can hear it crying 😳🙃
I have so much Snake plants (4 types of snake plants)
Do you re-use soil or use fresh from supplier each time? I have somehow picked up a gnat problem and am unsure how to care for my snake plants
I use LECA from the garden centre instead of potting soil.
If you grow them in LECA -- you never have to worry about that stuff! 🙂
(but yeah, you shouldn't reuse that soil indoors and you might want to add an inch of perlite to the top of your freshly potted plants; keeps fungus gnats from breeding in your new soil)
Well, according to this video, my Sansevierias Whitney and Wendy will have to stay in their current pots because they definitely have not filled them with roots like the example plants you showed. I'll just put the shiny new pots away for a while lol
Thanks, Plantguys!
I want a Wendy so bad
I split my plants so now I am wondering if they are in to big of a pot
You named them?? Well, I hope they give you years of pleasure.
Hi thanks for the informative video! Will you be doing a similar one on spider plants? Have got two with one of them comes with babies. Thank you!
I've really enjoyed watching your video, especially how to take care the Sancevaira.
Thanks for the great videos! Would you consider doing a video on old sansevieria plants? I've had my "mother" snake plant for over 30 years. There's been off shoots (pups) and I've propagated the leaves many times. As a result I have many plants with a mixture of old and new plants. Some have flowered many times. (Just listened to your advice to cut off flower, which I didn't know at the time.) But many of the leaves are folding in on themselves. Folding in half lenghtwise. and the color is odd, like a yellow green (not from over watering). The leaf is still straight and strong but just lacks luster. Some of these leaves also have some wrinkles. Could it be the left is just old? Should I cut them off? I haven't been able to find this answer elsewhere so I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
I just discovered your channel. Thank you! This was so helpful! Everyone keeps saying sansevierias are so easy but I realized that I still need to be smart about caring for it!
Thank u. I m learning a lot from u. Very helpful knowledge. now must go n apply it, n save my poor Sanserviera🙁
Brilliant video, thank you, and greetings from the UK. I have three varieties of Sansevieria and was so pleased to hear that I am caring for mine correctly, especially on not watering until bone dry. Though, one brilliant tip I was given on soil for repotting snake plants was to use half African Violet soil mix with half Cactus/Succulent mix - My snake plants have loved it and have been growing like crazy since, sporting bright shiny leaves. Thank you again for your wonderfully insightful lessons.
Thank You Star Walker. Great Tip for the Soil. I’ll try it!!
Loved this detailed video of yours. Thanks a lot. Much needed lesson on Sansevieria.
Wish you do a video like this on Spider Plant and ZZ in coming days.
.. Look up their list and see the video about ZZ plant..
The most comprehensive discussion about Sanseveria(now reclassified as Draceana) I have ever come across.
Thanks.
a cool european approach without getting hysterical👍👍
Oh my God! I could not agree more...👍
Why does my sanseveria leaves splits? Also the plant part near the soil turned yellowish?
Thank you so much for the complete information! I love Sansevarias😊💚🌿
I have my sansevierias in self watering pots, I can Not let them dry out or they get very sad, in fact the self watering pot always has to have full water in it. I really don’t know why but they grew to be water lovers. Anyway, whatever works for them 😂
I saw sanserveria at Home Depot with White edging and green center,( white edging not yellow). Is this sanserveria rare? Wasn’t able to buy one the lady bought all three that were left
I love this guy, very informative about plants.
Hello 🪴 from Piraeus Greece. Thanks a lot sure the most comprehensive video I've seen about this plant. I really learned a lot.
Very detailed and interesting. I really enjoyed. Thank you very much.
I’ve been so hesitant to buy the sanservierina/snake plant. Watching your presentation has taken all of my fears away. I get it, I feel confident. Thank you.
Your channel is my new favorite! Thank you for being so detailed.
I'm in Florida, US. Mine are growing wild and I need to get rid of them. I dug them up and and they come back.
Here, you can send them all to me lol
I love your channel. You are polite, scientifical and passionate & I'm learning so much from your content. Keep on. Just a question: i checked my sansevieras as they seemed weak and sick. Found out they had almost to none roots. I repotted them in smaller pots and gave new soil + leca (since they had only universal soil mix). Are they going to survive or my hopes are too high?
Thank you! But what interests me the most is - why are almost all Sansevierias planted in coco coir when you buy them? As i understand, that can hold on moisture for very long. Mine is a bit rootbound and i would like to pot it size up, but not sure should i change the soil completely or just put some cactus soil around.. I don't want to disturb the plant and i usually don't change the soil, but now i'm not sure :/
To add to the confusion they are now reclassified as “Dracaena” lol 😂
Sansevieria is my personal hero among plants - when spidermites, thrips, fungus gnats were around on her neighbours, somehow she remained untouched. I find them to be the easiest houseplants ever - that´s why I like them so much. They look awesome no matter what :-)
I’m so grateful for your Chanel it has helped me immensely how to care for my plants 🌱 properly ✨ The buying part is crucial thank for teaching us how to choose a healthy new member of our home 🏡👍🏼😃😃😃
Do you use hydrogen peroxide diluted in water for fungus issues? I've seen it in other videos and wanted to use it just to keep the plants healthy, but I am a bit afraid of trying it and kills my beloved plants.
No, it definitely won’t harm your plant. It is brilliant for killing insect eggs in the soil and helps to get oxygen to the roots.
I tried your method on propagating the snake plant. Yes it took for ever and a day, but it worked. Thank you so much.
Wish I could send some pictures, but I don’t see where I can add a photo to the post, sorry
Thank you so much for great detail. So few owners of plants and garden centers know little about care. I will be follow you, and look forward to your next video. May the good Lord continue to bless your work, and may you continue to prosper in it. Thank you again. From Texas, USA.
It’s also called „Metzgersblume“/ butchers plant in Germany.
Because apparently butchers have put them in their shops and windows for decoration in the 70s& 80s.
The plant still suffers from this image.🥩🪴
Have Moonshine and Sayuri arriving this week so of course I came over to this channel to refresh myself on proper care of these plants! Your presentation is so informative and thorough..... also friendly and down to earth. Love you guys!!
.. I have a Moonshine too and it is a Beauty really 🤗 I've got mine in a west window (sometimes in East window) and she loves it.. From May I take them outside on my front porch where they have a couple of hours of morning sun, and bright light but shade for the rest of the day.. I bring them back in around October, and meanwhile they have grown a lot and become so beautiful.. My Laurentii have bloomed too, from being in the window and outside.. I only water when I remember them 😳 maybe once a month or every other month.. I wish you all the best of luck ☘️🤗
So happy I found your channel. You are a wealth of information. I have learned so much. Thank you
Thanks for the tutorial it was very informative 🪴🪴🥰🙏🏾
Thank you for this! Looking forward to more informative videos ,best wishes from India🙏 🇮🇳
im from the Philippines my mom planted her snake plants directly into the soil in front of the house getting direct sun all day. after a few years the leaves reached 4 feet roots destroyed a portion of the concrete fence.
I just subscribed. I really enjoy the knowledge you have. My plants thank you as well! Alberta 🇨🇦🙏🏻☝🏻✝️
Also - perhaps you could consider making a video about the Madagascar Palm?
I cannot find your response - where do I look?
I use very weak coffee, the first time I did this, I'm sure it gave me a baby leaf as a thank you. Don't use instant coffee ☕ yuk they won't love you for it and make sure it's cold 😊
Thank you very much very much for the detailed information.... I needed it the most coz I have 10 snake plants indoors....
Such good information! Such nice presentation, thank you for your professionalism!!
