@@MercilessMrBrooks dude why, the proportions are still better than the new supra, the rounded design language is so consistent all over the car there isnt one sharp line on the mk4 supra, the design is just so damn smooth, the new supra is a bit of a mess with some rounded edges accompanied with sharp lines, the design language just felt more of a mess comoared to the old supra

Hi GC, to answer your question why people love the A80 SUPRA much better is because first people like what they can't get anymore easily. Secondly personally I prefer the dash on the A80 SUPRA which is more driver oriented similar to a cockpit in a race car. Overall very entertaining review. :)

Keep in mind that the old MK4 Supra produces 320hp at the crank, meaning to the wheels it's closer to around 280hp if you account drivetrain loss. This new one makes 335 at the wheels and with a much more efficient gearbox, it can be assumed that it makes close to 380hp at the crank. And with boost coming in at under 2k rpm vs the MK4 where boost arrives at 4k rpm, stock for stock the new Supra is just a better sports car.
More like better BMW.
The J spec A80 has 280bhp because of a less aggressive exhaust cam, smaller 440cc injectors and little weak ceramic turbos. Just like all the other 90s sports cars from Japan in modern day they are turtles stock just like you said. Another thing to remember besides the fact that the successor is the better and more refined car is from a tuning aspect people always cry about 2JZGTE swapping and "MaKiNg It A rEaL sUpRa" but yet with a B58 with a downpipe and a tune you easily get +400whp if you do a front cat delete, midpipe secondary car delete, and a tune with a little SAFC Neo and raise the boost to 17psi you'll be lucky if you get 380whp on pump gas. Cracking 400 on stock twins, and injectors on pump is nearly impossible.

Used to own a 1994 supra until 2015 sadly had to let it go for college.... But once I'm out, hopefully I can get my hands on one of the newer supras and hope it works at least as close to a 2JZ that I knew how to work on. BMW's are insane to work on and I have one and it's a headache when it comes to repairs. And OMG, you nailed it with the horn dude, really sounds like a dude trying to pick up stuff. I've not driven the new supra but I can tell you my old supra was terrifying on corners.

Toyota wanted to make the new Supra to be as attainable as they could. They didn't want to play around in NSX or GTR territory because at that price, no one is gonna buy it and not as many folks would want to take the risk of modifying it to produce massive amounts of power.

Fast and the furious really made the supra more popular than it would be today without it. Thats a fact. 2jz is legendary engineering besides that the mk4 didnt handle all that well and stock wasnt that fast. The jdm mr2 was faster in the quarter stock

So many people are sakit bontot over the fact that it uses a non Toyota, non Japanese engine. Meanwhile, that B58 straight 6 is currently pushing over 700hp with modifications and one professional racer Steph Papadakis even has one experimented to run at 1000hp, check out his videos on it.
Basically, this new Supra is a modding beast just like its previous namesake.
The Onederman ya but time will tell weather b58 is as reliable and bulletproof as 2jz.
Have you heard about BMW reliability. They are well known as an endless money pits, full of plastic crap that rots a lot. BMW engine wasn't design to last for a long time as well. After 5 years or more, a lot of issue arose which gave them the endless money pit title.
@@zuhailishufller8046 Toyota has input on the new Supra's B58 engine whereby parts are shipped over to Japan to be stress tested and it had met Toyota's standards. Plus, so far, there hasn't been any reports of reliability issues even after being pushed to double the factory power even on stock engine blocks or plastic pieces, and there are available metal upgrade parts for the B58 for more reliability once extensive modifications are done.
Is a BMW engine, it won't last forever. Toyota only do some makeup and adjust. The heart of it is a BMW. Toyota warranty is just nothing on this car. It still depends on the BMW engine.

The NSX is actually built in the US now 🤣 Not sure why everyone complains about the horn on this car. So the supercars of the 80s and 90s had a puny high pitched horn and nobody complained maybe complaining about irrelevant things is a new generation thing 🤷🏾♂️ A pattern I've noticed is most of the controversy towards the A90 comes from internet Supra fan boys who think every 2JZ is a turbo engine, think the 2JZ was originally designed for the Supra only, don't realize the A40-A70 didnt come with a 2J, never driven or owned any generation of the Supra, and currently drive something crappy. The A80 that everyone obsesses over now was criticized when it first debuted because it didnt have pop up headlights, it was a shorter wheel base than the A70, and it was lighter weight. A write up in car and driver said the A80 "looked like a poor man's 550 Maranello". The point is nobody likes progression. Nobody likes a car when it's in production then when it's gone people obsess over it just like when the A80 went out of production due to poor sales in the US. No matter how many facts are given to fan boys they cannot comprehend that the A90 is indeed the vastly superior car and a good successor.
This, i cannot agree more. The fact that you, an actual mk4 supra owner say this is proof of how clouded some of these other guy's views are on the supra.

This MK5 Supra shows how auto gearbox changed then. If toyota still designs fully in-house in Japan (without foreign German supplies), we kinda get 3JZ with stick-shift gearbox.

Drag racing doesn't prove which car is superior. My car would spank R35s all day long if I cared about straight lining. But the R35 is the better all around car based on it being newer and more refined.

The funniest thing is nobody is complaining that Toyota cannot design cars with this. With the BRZ collab they still said it looks too similar and a little boring. Now this though. Other than the lexus es ducktail, this is one curvy akira generation car.

Not proper for me. 2 seater either for Roadster/Super sport. NSX is always in Super sport. Supra not yet there and is in R35 league. This league is always a 2+2. Doesn't matter it is a straight 6 or a V6. Skyline from straight to V and beat many asses. Why can't Toyota do it. Toyota has good V6 engine and tech. Why not? No confidence in sales? Or?

My thought is Toyota is using the Trojan horse strategy. They are using the BMW horse instead. USA is their market. A80 was banned during it's time back in 1994. Probably to protect their muscle cars. Same to the GTR.

I really don’t understand the fuss made about Toyota using a BMW engine - nobody appears to moan about the fantastic engines in Aston Martins - yes the 4 litre twin turbo Mercedes engine ! Keep up the complaining and the car companies will produce their own engines entirely and have a guess who will pay for them !! Virtually all car companies do it - it makes complete sense - I look at it like this - if you bought a BMW with this engine then you would get three year warranty but because it is fitted in a Toyota you get five year warranty - happy days!! This could replace my Yaris GR4 next year - maybe 🤔🇬🇧

Yea, 2JZ can be tuned up to 1000+hp, but it's all depend on the reliability that you want. If you want a daily driver, u gonna blow up the engine with more than 1000hp within a year, maybe.

Alot of people talk about the a80 mk4 supra like it's a God car, can go 1k bhp etc. Yes it's true, but it won't be reliable anymore or easy to use daily. 90% of the people talking have never owned or driven one of these. They only watch videos and read forums. So yes, no need to reply to me as my reply was not directed at you either. It was for mr. Strider. The old supra is great, the new supra is awesome. Treat them as different cars and life will be happier ☺. Easy.
The A90 is a joke. Stupid Toyota should have just left the Supra dead, just so that it can remain as legend.
