I love me some Walther stuff. Love my ppq but this looks really good too
I bought a Full Size on Monday. Wasn't planning on it. I. Had. To. Have. It.
How do you like it so far? I see one is in stock at my LGS today and am going to see if I can scoop it up before someone else does.
I always like how you flip through the owner's manual. Your reviews are always full of useful information.
Thank you. That counters the folks who say "no one cares about that sort of stuff". I don't know, I guess as a guy who's been through the boxes of hundreds of handguns I appreciate when a manual and the extras are well done.
...and that sir is why I don't like those punk reviewers. Slow it down an show the firearm respect. Good professional review. I'll check out more of your video's now. Live free or die New Hampshire 👍🇺🇲😷
Very nice.who knows.might get one..+ one of those laser training devices.not participating in the demand part of supply & demand equation with ammunition.2020 was great, more fun to come..yaaay.
I like the full size !! Thanks for showing .
Me too. Thanks for showing this. I hope they come out with an OD green version of the full size.
@@CheJoffre That would be cool. It makes me sad that we have to wait for all the iterations of the PPQ that came out, all over again for the PDP. It feels like we are on a merry-go-round. I hope their timeline for rolling out stuff isn't as slow as it was for the PPQ. We should be able to get a version with a threaded barrel right away instead of waiting for them to "launch" a whole new "model". That's what I find so frustrating about cosmetic relaunches of guns. It's like watching a remake of Spider Man.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 absolutely! Although I don't mind waiting a bit and letting them iron out the kinks in the first generation if there are any.
@@CheJoffre There really shouldn't be any kinks as the barrel and internals are basically the same. The only thing that I saw that looks like a possible sign of trouble is a lot of frame to slide wiggle on Graham's example.
Thanks for the explanation of the step chamber. You gave the most thorough review of any gun I've seen of any channels out there. You have a new subscriber.
Great review, thank you for answering a question without knowing, i have this same walther pdp 4.5 i thought my slide was broken because of the slide to frame movement, and when waving it from side to side the slide wiggles, i contacted walther they said it was normal, i didn't believe them until i just seen your review, your the only one mention the slide to frame movement thanks again.
Great thorough review. Excellent attention to detail and great presentation.
After trying out so many pistols that just didn't fit right (I must have weird hands), I finally found the PPQ and I thought my pistol buying days were over. Until this gorgeous piece of work came out. dammit.
Now I have to decide which version to get.
Get both
I'm looking forward to being able to see this in person soon. Thanks for the review and info!
I always read the manual for anything new I purchase. I am a nerd and I want to know as much as I can about products. I am on my third Walther pistol and I have been dealing with pistols since my dad first showed me his .38 revolver 40 years ago. That's just me though, some people don't like reading manuals for whatever reasons.
Good vid. Just ordered my threaded barrel. Had mine a little over a year. Not a carry for me but definitely a fun range toy. I've had no issues at all with mine.
Review was very informative, thorough, and very detailed, well done 👏
Can't wait until the .45 A.C.P. version comes out.
I think Walther knocked it out of the park with the PDP. I liked the PPQ but not enough to buy...I bought the 4.5” PDP on day 2 of the launch and it’s been stuck in Memphis FedEx ever since! Grrr
Thanks for the vid!
One can always count on Fed Ex to screw up a precious delivery.
Finally got the PDP yesterday and it’s awesome..even better than expected!
I see lots of reviews for the compact. I have a G19 and carry it all the time. I don't want another compact gun. I want a full-sized gun, and I want this one.
Same here I got the mr920 same size as obviously a Glock I'm looking to To get a full size I don't own any so I'm going to do the same!! Problem is can't find them anywhere it's insane sold out within a day everywhere unless you want to spend $800 for a $650 gun on GunBroker
I went to a showcase where Walther had reps there and I shot the compact, I haven't shot iron sights in about a year picked this gun up it shoots like a dream crazy tight groups.. I can't wait to get my hands on one for my collection. The trigger was the best I've ever shot on a polymer
Agreed. All about a full size version of this model. Especially with those beefy slide cuts. Looks like a rugged tank of a pistol.
@@Jasondranoff I just ordered a 4.5” as my new edc. I currently carry a H&K vp9 w/surefirex300 and have no issues with printing.
Awesome review! I love my PDP 4.5 full size. I attached a Holosun HG508T-GR and a Streamlight TLR-7.
I don't have a Walther... yet. This could be the one!
Haha, I'm in the same boat. Looks really nice!
good luck fittin that in your pants...
@@ch-ir8ld I have one and used an Urban Carry holster that was made for my PPQ 45ACP. I had no problem carrying it concealed IWB. I am 5'10".
@@rm5282 you have the compact or the 4.5?
@@m.watson708 I have the 4.5. It is nice. I bought a Dara kydex holster that works well.
Just got the PDP, already have an HK Vp9, and in all honesty, I have to say the HK is officially now the "Second" best trigger for a striker fired gun.
I’m thinking about the Vp9 or this
@@GamingwithTiyah both GREAT firearms. Built very well too for the steel/ polymer type. As I stated, my opinion... Both great triggers.... But the Walther PDP just barely beats it to be called better. It's a tough choice cause they are both great firearms though.
You never shot a canik?
Walther sent out my RMR plate in 2 business days which was very impressive. But once I finally revived it I realized they do not provide and screws. The screws that come with RMR are way to long. After many very unhelpful calls to Walther I figured out on my own that the screws that are needed are #6-32 3-8”. Even Walther couldn’t tell me this. I would have a couple of these screws on hand before the plate comes in if you are using an RMR.
Great video, keep it up. Makes me even more excited to finally pick it up tomorrow.
As the Walther’s are built in Germany I expect they are test fired there also. Perhaps they just decided to no longer include casings and test targets. But I can assure you in Europe there is ammo shortage and I can buy 1000 124gr 9mm nato all day long for €175. I hope the situation gets better in the US this year. Interestingly the PDP is releasing later in Europe and we won’t see it until July.
I really like this and Walther in general. When this compact is available with a factory threaded barrel and suppressor height night sights, I'm in...available and reasonable ammo would seal the deal.
It’s your lucky day. Accepts the same threaded barrels as the PPQ and the sights are Glock compatible. As for affordable ammo.... you’ll need a lot more than luck.
My 4.5" has been shipped this morning , should be receiving it on Wednesday cant wait ,nice review 👍
Hope you enjoy it!
@@GBGuns just got back from the range, shot 2 (50) round boxes of fedeal 115grain and it was flawless, the grip ,the trigger just amazing,,also have to agree with many UA-camrs saying its snappy ,it really is, but that didnt bother me at all ,love this pistol ,the only gripe i have with this pistol is,its to damn sexy ✌
This gun is going to take a lot of Glocks market share. Priced under the Glock G19 and 17 by about $100.00. means something for first time gun owners as you mentioned who might be buying this gun. Add Walthers rep for having a superior trigger vs Glocks.
And superior ergonomics, they actually care about customers, etc etc
Nice review. Loved the UA-cam disclaimer. Chew glass youtube. Rumble for the win.
its a tough call for me CZ p10F vs PDP 4.5 im still leaning toward the CZ the feel it shoots better more to grab less snappy plus the trigger felt better on the CZ but still not sure lool
Love the gun, and enjoyed the video.
Thanks GB. Great job. Good info.
I'd like to see how the 4.5" slide looks on the Compact frame.
Not sure if they are interchangeable, but I too am curious to see how it looks
when scraping the bottom of the barrel for content ideas you could do manual comparisons.
Haha, that would be a good one. I still have the boxes and manuals for almost all of my pistols. Find the most user-friendly experience and the "if you bought this we assume you're already knowledgeable/ we don't care we sell guns"
We could even include the military manuals we have 😉
Great review, I am thinking of purchasing this pistol, not every gun has everything. Have you ever done a review on the Beretta APX?, and your impressions?.
Checking the videos of the 4” and this one. I’m glad you notice and mentioned the spacer or the recoil spring. My worry is what if debris gets into that open channel of the “spacer recoil channel” of the 4.5”? Will this affect the performance or will that channel be sealed well inside and make no difference. Knowing Walther it probably the latter but it is something to ask and make note of.
Good review. Walther released the PSS in 07 or 08 which was one of the first 3in barrel under 1 in wide ccw out at that time. They did a redesign a few years back which is now the PPS M2. I prefer the paddle mag releases but I can do the buttons.
Yup, the PPS and PPS M2 are great pistols, we have several videos on them.
I think I need one ...
Just picked up, no shots through yet, really like grip texture, fit and finish seems great. Issue is the copper trigger spring, seems to be flaking (?) Coating coming off(?) Waiting to hear back from Walther now
My PDP mags work in my Sig P226. Does work the other way but not as well oddly. Awesome pistol. The trigger reset is so short I had trouble with double fires. I'm too used to terrible triggers, and this has a great trigger.
Wait the PDP 18 rounders fit in 226??!?
@@tacticalbt1023 Not absolutely perfect but yes. Even lock the slide on empty
Great video, extremely informative. Well done. 👍
Seriously man, you talked me into my first Walther lol.
If you're a Glock guy get ready for a serious upgrade.
@@GBGuns honestly I have one Glock, the others are all different makes. Love them all. But this one- the walther pdp is really calling to me lol
@@GBGuns ordering it tomorrow!!! Now the wait........ 🙄
+Graham Bates would the PDP replace your PPQ? If you could only keep one. Thank you very much for your videos.
Yes
@@GBGuns Interesting. Thanks for your response.
Just picking the gun it it feels different, but I love my PPQs. On the range however the PDP outshines the PPQ
The BEST review I’ve seen of the PDP, and I’ve watched a ton of them. No one else hardly discussed the slide lock/release, and none demonstrated it. Great job. Now, if my PDP that i ordered would just show up soon....also, i like reading manuals. Is there a PDF version online somewhere? Can’t find it.
Thank you. I don't know if the manual is available in pdf. Have you asked Walther?
Walther who? (Kidding) No, I’ve not. I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
@@GBGuns well, got a response:
Hi Flint,
We do not have a PDF version of the owners manual at the moment.

Wow, that's hard to believe. They created the file digitally to begin with...
Like that Prong guitar intro.
I get my 4.5 inch on Wednesday and can't wait!
Congrats!
If their new race gun for this lineup will be a reflection with how much better the Q5 is over the other PPQ models than this is gonna be an insane platform.
Can you shoot a quick video with the 4.5 upper on the compact frame? I would like to see how they interchange
You need to see 5 inch upper on compact frame...that is the combo!!
If I could find a light bearing duty Holster for this, I'd jump on it. Shot the PPQ and loved it, especially the trigger.
Dara Holsters & Gear has some. I order one for the 4.5 full size, it arrives tomorrow.
@@rm5282 how was it I’ve heard some conflicting things from Dara
@@benjaminck6768 I think it is OK. I did purchase a holster from Urban Carry that was better though.

@@benjaminck6768 my pleasure
I'm in.......Once they make a .40s&w version.😏
Glad to still see fans! send a ammo crate! Having a hard time finding any in Michigan might have to switch to a 9mm barrel sadly😥
I'm thinking about getting the PDP 4.5" but are mags easy to get? I heard some reviews, albeit older ones claim the full size model mags aren't as common as compact, which can be a pretty big downside of that still holds true a year later.
The contact mags are more common because they're PPQ mags. The full size are a new size for Walther, but they're around.
Here’s my guess, and maybe this has already been pretty obvious to a lot of people, but the full size 4.5” is a sign that a PDP chambered in. 45 ACP is on the horizon. I don’t know if they would have come out with this without the .45 in mind. I say this because it’s dimensions are very close to the PPQ 45.
I like it. Will they continue the steel frame Q4s and Q5s, or will they introduce steel frame versions of these pistols?
From what iveheard the SF models will continue
You have awesome reviews!
Thank you! We've covered hundreds of guns on an off the range. Most of our videos are part of more in-depth articles. Check video descriptions or pinned comments for more information.
Red dot please! Maybe it's just me (and Aaron Cowan) but at this point I won't consider buying any gun that's not optics ready. Also I went on the Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore website and they have 3 different PDPs you can pre-order: the compact, the service and the "X" with the full size grip and 4" barrel... So if you want your PDP in the Glock 19X / Sig P320 X-Carry format, Walther has you covered :)
Walther PDP 4.5" opt ready or Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS !!! ..........which to choose ???
Hi, your review is well made.
I would to ask: what is the reason for using polymer sights and guide rod in a (duty) handgun? why not metal?
Isn't it a disadvantage?
It could be for sure. How much that really mater depends on your intended use. Walther offers a Tungsten guide rod and the slide is cut to accept Glock-patter sights, so the option to upgrade is there. I think for the factory gun they were aiming at keeping cost down. With an MSRP of 650 I think they're still over delivering. The PDP really is an impressive gun and a great price.
I’m in the market for a new pistol, I’m looking for something in the larger compact to full size frame (probably in 9mm). I’m coming from a Springfield XDM 3.8 Compact in 40 S&W, which was my first pistol (carry pistol). I’m debating between the CZ P10C/F, the S&W M&P 2.0 either the 4” compact, 4.25” full size, or the 5” performance center (ported), and the Walther PDP line.
My main question is if you’ve ever shot the M&P 2.0 with the APEX trigger, and how would that compare to the stock triggers of the CZ P10 and the new Walther PDP. Secondarily how are the three compared to each other in terms of shootability, speed, recoil? Reason I’m asking the second question, is one of the things that slightly bother me with the XDM is the higher bore axis compared to say an M&P. I know bore axis is not the only defining element to overall feel, but I haven’t had the chance to shoot all three of these pistols, so I have to ask someone that has.
As far as carry considerations, I’m 6’2 280-300Lbs, so I don’t mind carrying a larger gun, particularly when it comes to barrel length. Also since I already have a compact, if I need to carry something smaller that day, I can.
Well if I have to give up my PPQ’s paddle mag release (I’ll never find the unicorn 5”:M1) I may as well get the one with 18rd mags
Thank you for the (very) good presentation! I'm a little jealous of you.
The plate policy differs country to country. And the pricing too, I'm afraid. In Denmark you'd get 0 plates and 0 vouchers. A Walther plate costs (the eq. of) USD 77,50 at the dealer and the gun with a plate will cost USD 1166 plus USD 46 for a 5-year license. Your price: 650. Our price: 1212... and we get to wait 2-3 months for the paperwork to come through between payment and pickup. Sigh.
Oh geez & I thought 2-3 weeks was a long time
Yeah, @@Kwood10, it has been four months now. But I'm afraid Walther is partially to blame as their barrel stats were off and caused the total gun length to drop below 21 cm - too short to be permitted in my country. They should have started drilling and hammering new barrels in spec 1½ months ago - but we haven't see any barrels yet. It is a waiting game - and I'm starting to become a little annoyed with Walther.
Need to check out 5 inch compact that just came out...5 inch barrel...compact 15 round mag grip....AMAZING BALANCE in hand!!
We have one!
@@GBGuns .. So which configuration you like best?
I prefer to carry barrels over 4". We haven't shot the 5" yet, but I'm expecting good things
Awesome review man
Need one
I foresee a new PPS M3 like gun next...
Shameless bump for the algorithms.
I'm looking hard for a full size PDP to add to my 9mm EDC rotation.......
Great review, thank you.
Thank you. Part two is the "Shooting Impressions "
Yes put a red dot on it! Holosun 507C X2
Oh wow I just noticed that the 4.5in slide has a different guide rod than the other two models
Thanks! Which do you like better, the PDP 4.5", the 4" (or the P99AS 😀)? :
P99AS will forever be a favorite. Itshard to say which of these i like better. I want the 4.5" slide on the compact frame
@@GBGuns I like that idea too. I wonder if the 4.5" PDP slide on the PPQ M1 frame would work. That sounds cool too.
I'm sure they fit, just haven't messed with it, you know us and our WILD ideas of testing guns as they come out of the box
@@GBGuns Lol. I forgot you aren't FPS Russia.

I'm 78 y/o F, have had a Beretta 92Compact L for many years for home protection but hv arthritis in both hands and it's hard to rack the slide. Have been seeking knowledgeable info/reviews and you pop to the top of the list. It's hard to find the Walther PDP at local ranges and considering the great raves, considering buying one but...the FS PDP or the Compact w/4.5" or 5" barrel? Any thoughts?
First off, if it's hard to rack the slide on your 92 have you tried thumbing back the hammer first? That makes it a lot easier with hammer-fired guns. As far as the Walthers, they all use the same spring so a longer slide won't necessarily get you an easier slide to rack, but for shooting experience I think you'd find them quite the upgrade from the 92 compact.
@@GBGuns Thanks for your input. Took a couple of classes years ago before buying the Beretta but realize since recently joining a shooting association how complicated everything has become. Since ~10M people bought guns last year and ~5M of them are new gun owners, could you lend your expertise on determining how to decide which guns and what ammo fits individual needs, improving eye dominance, evaluating shot placement on target issues, how stance affects one's shooting...
TUVM!
Yes, we should do some videos on that. In the mean time check out our "learn something " playlist. Some of it is good for beginners, others good for intermediate.
@@GBGuns
Thanks! Have watched all your Walther PDP videos...several times.
Think it's advantageous for a "newbie" to mount a red dot? ...and how do I choose one?
One more thing...any thoughts on advantages of the SIRT gun?
You could just say "perfection" knuckle instead of Glock knuckle.
SUPER.. APX A1 ❤
This is the Walther PDP 4.5" Full Size.
How concerned do you think we should be about that polymer insert warping/breaking over time, or not working well with aftermarket steel guide rods?
I trust it to be of the same material the frame is, so it shouldn't warp. As far as compatibility with an aftermarket guide rod: that's the aftermarket's job to make it work. I really don't think one is needed in the PDP as it shoots so flat to begin with.
@@GBGuns Cool beans, and thanks. Yeah, I was actually confused. I thought it would be freely moving like the plastic buffer piece on an HK45 guide rod but it's not it's pretty much wedged to the front the whole time. And since the opening matches the factory guide rod, there's no reason it shouldn't work with an already existing PPQ steel aftermarket if it's made to specs. I just didn't use my head, and I'm one of those irrational types that worry about unlikely-to-break polymer guide rods. What can I say? It made my teeth itch. But I've decided to trust Walther. I think it can easily be said that there are riskier decisions one can make in life. You do really, REALLY good videos, btw. I've watched many videos on the PDP at this point, the 4.5" specifically, and you're the only one who even mentioned that insert much less pointed it out during disassembly.
Thank you. I'm a bit of a gun nerd and strive to report as a journalist, not make flashy/salesy "influencer" videos.
I should have my compact tomorrow wish they had a 4 and a 1/2 Barrel with a 15 round magazine. The grip reminds me of a komodo dragon Skin
There is a 15 round 4 1/2 and 5 inch coming soon walther said
They do, I just picked one up and they also have a 5 in as well.
Hey, just picked this gun up and it's my first ever pistol. I have a question about cleaning it. As of right now I only have ballistol and CLP. Can the outside polymer of the gun be cleaned with either product and then wipe up any access with a dry patch? I know both can be used as a cleaner/lubricant on the inside of the gun, I was just Alittle worried about leaving it on the polymer on the outside or if I should use something totally different for that.
For the polymer I'd stay away from chemicals. Most everything on the polymer should just wipe off with a damp cloth. Congrats on a great choice for a pistol!
@@GBGuns thank you for the reply! So, what do you like to use on the polymer of your guns then? I've noticed quite a bit of carbon caked on all the polymer around the crown of the barrel and the rail / accessory line under the barrel, "where flashlights usually go". I ended up just using a tiny bit of CLP to wipe away the majory then used a microfiber to get up anything left behind and it cleaned up nice but like you said I probably shouldn't keep using anything with chemicals on it.
Just check the labels to make sure they're safe for polymer. I just use a damp cloth and a brush, but honestly I only clean guns when their performance degrades or to prevent rust.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great review 👍
Thank you, this is just the first half.
Better than Glock 17 gen 5 MOs? If you were going to choose 1?
Go with the Glock if you want to tinker and spend a lot of money trying to make the gun the way you want it. Go with the Walther if you want it to perform and be great out of the box. Tinkering with Glocks is fun, but I'd rather a gun that fits my hand and performs without doctoring, especially if it's going to be a carry gun.
What magazine is the PDP going to use? Did Walther make a new for the PDP or will it take PPQ 2gen?
PPQ
The compact version will accept the PPQ mags but those mags will work in the full sized versions.
Looking to put a red dot on my pdp what would you recommend?
I have a feeling the PDP us going to be as hard to find as the PS5.
Your prediction was correct
What do the PDP mags look like on the Q5 SF?
Did you notice any problems with accuracy while shooting with the side to side movement on the slide?
See our Shooting Impressions video.
@@GBGuns cool thanks.
How does grip texture compare to cz p10c or m&p 2.0? Is it more or less aggressive?
We talked about that in the Shooting Impressions videos. It's more adhesive but less "i want to shred your skin and clothes" in my opinion.
PDT - stands for “PERFORMANCE DUTY TRIGGER”. Not “Personal Defense Trigger”, just saying...though I could see why you could make that assumption.
Reason probably being that the pistol is called the PDP - Performance Duty Pistol, not Personal Defense Pistol.
Correct
can you conceal carry this?
I can, but it's a matter of personal preference, body size, holster, and clothing style.
Pardon my lack of knowledge, but does this firearm have a safety?
No external safeties
@@GBGuns ah ok, thanks

Pdp or cz p10c or Glock 17 ?

"If you work for CNN, you might be able to find a chainsaw to fit on there" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The PPQ and P99 have always had stepped chambers. One can not use any round esp the older corbon rounds that fragmented. Jams everytime due to OAL. The CCP does not have stepped chambers fwiw
Nice pistols
Great review! Thank you for your military service
We need at least 4.5 or more inches of barrel length of 9mms to effectively defend ourselves from attackers. It will compromise the effectiveness of your 9mm pistols if you make them shorter in barrel length. My IMO only.
Most modern ammunition is intended for 4", and there are some loads specifically designed to perform well in shorter barrels, but I agree that I'd rather have a 4.5" than a 3.5"
Would have been funny if it said, "Adjusting the user to the pistol."
I'm not diggin' it. I'd like that grip texture on the P99AS, though.
Add a laser training kit in that box & I’ll take 1. SUX.take the demand out of the supply & demand equation.
Do either of the sizes fit in PPQ holsters?
Nope! Different barrel profile with those super-serrations so nothing fitted.
@@bmac9936 thank you for the information
PDP has different slide configuration from PPQ so wont fit the same holsters. The barrels are the “same” in both 4” models.
I have a holster for my 4" PPQ 45ACP from Urban Carry Holster company. My PDP 4.5" full size fits in it. It is a semi-rigid leather holster.
@@rm5282 thank you
I'm pretty into my berettas but a walther might be coming soon. If only i didn't buy a bunch of glock parts half drunk 2am last night. 😑
We've all been through the Glock phase. Chasing that perfect build only to find out hundreds of dollars later that a better gun exists from the start. I learned a lot about what I like and don't like in a pistol from my Glock phase.
In 4.5 that gun is damn sexy looking.
I'd say shoot irons...poors like me have a hard time buying optics after the gun... lol
Just use the government handouts, the Democrats are so keen on giving everyone, for a new optic or pistol/optic combo. That’s what I’m doing, I find such pleasure/joy in the irony of having the anti-gun lefty Democrats directly/personally fund an additional firearm purchase on their dime. It’s kinda poetic really...
Not a fan of what they did with the Polymer insert for the recoil spring would’ve actually preferred to see a full length recoil spring, instead of trying to use the same length recoil spring for two different length barrels
9mm barrel laser
Walther PDP 4.5" owners.... please load 18 rounds into the magazine, insert the mag into the gun without the slide locked to the rear, then try and rack the slide to load a round. I cannot manipulate the slide using either one of my magazines when they are fully loaded, this is a serious design flaw.
