Honest Owner Review: Walther PDP Compact

  • We got this new 9mm to the range and here is our review! It is the new 9mm Walther PDP Compact. (PDP means Performance Duty Pistol.) These do come red dot ready right out of the box, BUT . . . they do not include the needed mounting plates, you need to go to their website to get your ONE free one, using your serial number. Other than that, it is a good product. If you cannot find one, the Walther PPQ will be a great equivalent, for less money.
P.S. Our PDP first look video has a little more information in it.

This is definitely going to be my first handgun. It comes with all the things you would find on a custom glock. But right out of the box and for a lower price. No modification necessary.

Don’t forget that free plate is US market specific. Rest of the world we have to buy a plate we want. The fact this gun arrives with no plates makes it (at least on Czech market) much cheaper than Glock 19/17 MOS even when ordering one specific plate when you decide to buy it. For someone like me who doesn’t run pistol optics the fact that there’s option for you later but it isn’t more expensive at the start makes it the Best bang for buck. Gonna buy this gun soon. Really looking forward to it.

Having just shot this pistol, it is awesome. It took me a mag to figure it out but the very next mag, I was connecting with the plates. This is a great gun. Fortunately it’s owner didn’t care for it and I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. I should have it next week. One thing said which is true, this gun does what a modified Glock 19 does out of the box. Awesome gun. Good job on the review.

I just shot one of these at a pistol drilling class. It was the instructor's. I knew this gun was truly different... it is NOTICEABLY lighter than all of my other 4" barreled 9mm pistols. Numbers wise, it shows a few ounces lighter- but you can feel it! It feels great in the hand..and it handles recoil quite well.
I found it to be VERY accurate. I'm about to buy one- but I just bought a Beretta APX Centurion...and am having the same issue as everyone else right now- 9mm ammo is made of unobtanium. Scheels has this PDP Compact for $649. GREAT gun!

My first option out of a list of around 12 pistols - is the WALTHER PDP PRO SD with 9mm 18+1, Holosun 508T-RD-X2; and the Streamlight TLR-1HL. I spend several months and many hours on UA-cam listening to what others have to say about performance and reliability. Went to the range and test fired it. All I kept saying was "HOLY SHIT.....WOW" and I was very impressed with my shot group (no not the side of a barn). I say around 25 feet and paper targets. As all the commentators and firearms' enthusiast - The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol (in my opinion) stands out as a pinnacle of modularity and versatility in the world of duty pistols. With an array of features catering to customization and adaptability, this firearm exemplifies innovation in design. I love how it fits in my hands and the esthetics.
Here's what I think about it's Performance: The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol delivers on its promise (watch the many videos - yes! on UA-cam) of being a duty-ready firearm. The combination of these features translates into a reliable and user-friendly shooting experience. The modularity not only enhances performance but also accommodates individual shooter preferences.
Durability: Walther has a history of producing durable and reliable firearms, and the PDP PRO SD appears to continue this tradition. Quality materials and precision engineering contribute to the pistol's longevity, making it a reliable companion in various duty scenarios. Conclusion: The Walther PDP PRO SD pistol stands as a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and user-centric design. Its modular features, including the Picatinny rail, optics-ready capability, reversible mag release, and various customization options, make it an excellent choice for those seeking a duty pistol that adapts to their unique needs. Walther has successfully combined versatility with performance, resulting in a firearm that meets the high standards expected of a duty pistol.
LASTLY: I say to always check for the latest reviews and user feedback (UA-cam) to ensure you get the latest up-to-date information on any weapon ....you paying for it. Might as well do your homework.

5:56 ... there is a new reticle made by primary arms called the "vulcan" that has a dot in the middle and a very large ring that is outside the window of your dot.. so you can't even see the ring until you're canted to the side and you can't see the dot--- so the ring will let you know which direction the dot is and so there is no hunting. I think it's exclusive for the holosun, but its really an innovation that all dots on pistols should have.

So refreshing to FINALLY hear someone PROPERLY pronounce Walther! Might be a small petty thing to some, but I look at it like this: if you can't even pronounce your guns manufacturer correctly, you probably shouldn't be walking around with a firearm LOL. Anyway, just bought a PDP Compact Saturday and will be adding it to my card Monday (communist New York makes you have a license and register every handgun and 10-round mags and...well, NY sucks). I couldn't believe this was in stock at my local gun shop, but living in a small town has its advantages! They also usually have ammo too!
I'll be taking it to the range on Tuesday (closed Mondays unfortunately), can't wait to shoot this! I have a PPQ SC and absolutely love it, but fell in love with this before even seeing it in person.
I looked at it and drooled...then left with my ammo...then called and put a deposit on it, and an hour later went in and paid it off. Wife's not completely thrilled but she knows she's safe with me around LOL. I overpaid ($679) but they had it and I wanted it.
So my mags have to be pinned to be NY compliant, so the only drawback I see is acquiring additional mags...is anyone aware of anyone who sells pinned mags for communist states like NY, MA and CA? Or would I have to buy 15-rounders and have then shipped to an FFL for modification? Not a huge deal, would just be more convenient at the range to not have to load every second mag, it's not going to be my EDC so that's not a concern (my EDC is a Sig P365). Thanks for the review, sweet gun, can't wait til...later today, hey it's after midnight so I get to pick it up today. 😁

I was having issues with 'finding' my red dot when I first started using one for a pistol. I keep seeing (and trying the technics) the videos on how to draw and present to always find your reddot. It still wasn't consistant for me, then I tried ignoring that it has a reddot and presenting as I aways have with irons. Anyway, it worked for me, I bring it up as iron, but as soon as the dot shows up when presenting I switch my focus from lining up my irons with the target to the red dot on the target. It has helped me so maybe it will help someone else.

The reason it doesn't come with plates out of box is because they're having C&H as their OEM; they're currently listed at $70 on their site.

Also saves them from having to make a ton of plates that won't get used.

Unless the holster is leather it probably won't fit any ppq holster the slide is thick . I believe the sight and plate on the slide are Polymer. I don't like the ledge under the mag release On occasion when doing a quick mag change the ledge hinders me from pressing it completely. In my opinion the trigger on some of the caniks and cz p10 series might be better. I do like the serrations , the texture on the grip, good ergonomics and the overall look
