I have two M&P's, gen 1 and 2.0 both in 9mm. The only issue I ever had was mag related and that was using aftermarket magazines, which sometimes cause a double feed and rarely has last round slide lock, but factory mags, no issues at all. My 2.0 I purposely refused to clean it all of last year and that damn thing just would not quit, even after getting it so hot, I couldn't touch the slide and after a few cases of ammo, and one case ammo was wolf which is pretty dirty. Hollow points, 115-147 grain, it ate it all. The 2.0 is the last handgun I'll need...until I get the M&P 5.7, lol.
@@soonerfrac4611 My guess is the gaps for the initial water to freeze in on the 1911 and 2011 are a little smaller, thus allowing less water into the gun to get frozen.

As a CZ guy and more specifically hammer fired CZ guy, I think that came down more to luck than anything inherent to the design anyway. It's unfortunately hard to control for where specifically the water hits the gun, at what angle, how and where it splashes. That is unless you build a water spray rig in which you place a gun in the middle so that water is sprayed onto each gun from the same angles and for the exact same duration, or just fully submerge each gun. This means even if there's a massive ingress point for water if you don't hit it just right it'll be fine, or if it isn't a wide ingress point but you hit it at just the right angle it still gets f*cked.
@@BringerOfD AGree. Perhaps a more reasonable test to the skin walker hunting scenario would be to dip each gun into a bucket of water for 5 seconds, then remove and hang with barrels pointing straight down to freeze in that orientation... more similar to crawling out of the water and having the gun pointing down in a holster allowing water to drain from the barrel, while allowing full immersion and equivalency between pistols. Maybe that's ridiculously too difficult for any pistol... except for a CZ of course... :op. A Walther PPQ NAvy would have been interesting here also.

I carry a M&P 2.0 for armed security with a level 2 retention holster. A lot of the other guys carry glocks and try to shit on my weapon because glocks "always fire". This is Chicago - im not worried about sand getting in my gun like they apparently do. I got more metal on mine so if shit hits the fan and I cant properly brace it completely, its not going to stove pipe jam my casing because it has enough heft to cycle completely. Ive limp wristed it on purpose before hell bent on a stove pipe - fires every time. Cannot say the same for a Glock 22 that I fired slightly loose and the spent casing got bit and held in the slide.
I used to work as an ammo testing tech for a major ammo maker. One of the routine tests was to freeze ammo (not the gun) at -40 for 3 days and test. If it fired, it was a pass. Pressure/velocity dropped considerably.
I think a reason why the Sig and M&P functioned was largely due to the fact that they're fully tensioned strikers and just need to drop the sear vs. the partially-tensioned Glock and Steyr. Great video, as always.
@@Little.R Yeah, most handguns have a firing pin block, but having the striker fully cocked vs partially cocked is something that varies depending on the gun. The factory Glock striker is only partially cocked, but the factory Sig striker is fully cocked.

@@iJacker Probably several elements of danger. I don't think they were cold enough to make the metal brittle. Maybe some of the plastic parts but he was wearing eyepro so... Main danger I would worry about would be an attempted fire, some internal part of the trigger/sear mechanism getting hung up on ice, then releasing at (Murphy's law, the most inopportune time) between trigger pull and clear. As for skinwalkers, all I know about them I learned from reading Tony Hillerman novels about Navajo culture... A type of witch that can look like an animal (in effect wear it's skin or look like one) or possess one and make it do what they want.
The reason the M18 still worked: Something I noticed with them is when the trigger is at rest there is very little gap between the trigger and the frame because there's a big flat piece at the top of the trigger that is almost flush with the hole the trigger goes through. Most guns have a big giant opening that the trigger just passes through, and the trigger doesn't totally fill and seal up that hole like the trigger on the sig does, so there's a big opening for water to get inside.
Yes. If youve ever pocket carried like an absolute heathen, smash the like button, but also you wouldve noticed that lint & dust & pocket sand can easily get into the gun that way. Now its not a huge problem under most normal circumstances, but because it is one of the few susceptible areas, it would be interesting to see a kind of simple polymer dust cover that moves with the trigger as it traverses the gap perhaps

@@mentalhaze4226 couple range days after my brother got one to carry, no issues (kind of expected) but they’re fun to shoot too
I have two M&P's, gen 1 and 2.0 both in 9mm.

Based Czechnology gang
Yeah the cz fanbois are a fragile bunch

Glad to see the czechnology worked fairly well. My EDC gun. Although I dont expect to be frozen anytime soon, glad to see its reliability
Isn't the sig the only one with that weird modular serialized drop in trigger group assemblies?

@@TorinStein I was gonna say the makarov MAY fire still. Being direct blowback as long as the hammer fell it's firing.
@@TorinStein well it wouldn’t have the grip safety causing issue, so maybe it would’ve done better
This actually blew my mind. Glad to be a sig guy but that m&p blew me away. Did not see that coming at all
I’m a Sig and CZ guy, but the M&P was definitely impressive.
As an M&P guy, I am glad lol
Right! I totally get that this test has a lot of variables and its hard to repeat exact conditions for each gun. But damn was I pumped to see the M18 not care about it. Very proud to be a sig guy right about now.
@@ndfan2007 used to have a gucci 2.0 from agency. One of the best I've owned
As an M&P guy im so happy i dont have to throw it in the trash
I'm for sure a Sig guy, so I loved to see my M18 working out there (ngl i didnt expect it to at all, I had zero hope), but the M&P actually functioning had my jaw dropped.
Why lol
Why lol
Only people who are fanboys trash talk Sig or Glock for that matter. People can't accept that they are just gold standards, and it's okay to also have other firearm brands.
@@slippynipz I agree 100%. There’s lots of good firearm brands that work great. We all need to come together and unify and fight the good fight. And the good fight can be fought so much better with a glock than a sig 🙂
@@RosaParksWasWyt except when your trigger freezes apparently.
I'm moving to New England in a month, I'm glad to see my m&p 2.0 will do just fine in the winters up there.
As an M&P guy, it felt like watching a UFC knockout when it worked. Made my day.
Yea considering that thing was frozen solid compared to the M18.
My stock m&p never failed me
Absolutely I myself is an M&P/S&W fan
M&P just replaced the hinge trigger though.
Kinda want a m&p now :D
I feel a P226 definitely deserved to be here. After all for some tine it was the most likely one to be in freezing cold water freezing air and expected to work
Sigs and HKs make me moist. At least they function well when that moistness freezes over lol
Same. Kinda stopped watching the video after all the handguns listed and it was not on the list.
Did you guys not watch the video ? See the hammered fired handguns ?
@@eddiegarza3844 What a clown, the dude only has the guns that he has. You can't expect him to just go out of his way to test YOUR favorite gun.
@@Osprey1994 seriously, you don't think he has a p226,p229 or a m11 ?
M&P and CZ for the win. Got to love Mikes reaction when the M&P didn't fail like the Glock. Just love it when that happens. Dont own any Sigs but good job.
And Sig!!
I love how each little space tells you the make and model!
Excellent test, and I laugh really loud at the DE test, where the "explosion" was clipped in. Because 2 secs prior, I thought to my self, "if that gun goes of, that hand is going to hurt".
And I can confirm the camelback on your chest trick. We did that all the time . In days where everyone have nv googles, including airsofters, you can't go and light up a fire to melt ice.
17:34 damn never seen garand so defeated. The glock just couldn’t pass the test. Kudos to him for still keeping it fair for all of the guns tho, even with his bias for glock!
It's not too surprising really. They're not as reliable as people make them out to be.
@@vlogfriendsutopia fps Russia froze a Glock then shot it and it still cycled perfectly fine
@@vlogfriendsutopia They really are...You're just trying to be a know it all.
@@mizzoupatriot8814 @Decidueye he is right tho.. Glock was just the first so they have a Colt like following.
That being said I have a gen 3 Glock 17 and fits MY hand perfectly, and I own HK, sig, staccato, Walther, and S&W. Everyones different and prefers different rifle and pistol variants.
All that really counts is we are on the 2A team and Joe Biden sniffs children.
@@mizzoupatriot8814 Not the case. There's a test on UA-cam where they fired 1000 rounds through a G19 in 18 minutes, and it had numerous failures. There's another video where some men tested a Bersa Thunder 9 with 1500 rounds in less time. Not a single hiccup for the Bersa.
The overall reliability of the CZ including the compacts is just reason enough for me to go that direction.
love cz
You really can depend on a cz75..I just wish they still offered a stainless variant and the cz97 in 45acp..the 75 compact is all I carry ..grab one if you find it.
I've owned a CZ p07 for over 15 years never had a failure once.
CZs are great
I like the look and it reliable

The dedication is amazing thank you boys for spending the time in that environment freezing for us viewers. 😇😇😇😇
Now we need a “becoming deadly in the Arctic” series
I'm very happy to see that the ammo worked very well even under freezing conditions.
Yeah fr, I wanna know what 9mm he was using
also good thing none of the guns fired exploded i wonder what kind of ammo it was
Just wait till they test you edc in space or a vacuum...
That'll really blow your mind.
Any brass ammo should be perfectly fine even in those conditions. The components inside of the casing cannot freeze without moisture.
So, I legitimately may be one of the few people this test may be useful for, I work with commercial freezers that regularly hit -20 degrees F. The going in and out can cause a ton of condensation, which can lead to your clothes even freezing to your body. This definitely shows the stresses my firearm goes through in these extremes, and shows the extra maintenance I'm definitely going to need to keep up with now
So what is your edc gun now?
@@Oberkommando I use an m&p shield one with no safety. It's simple and effective, but it's definitely going to show limitations like anything in environments like that
I'd worry about un sealed ammo in that environment
A good sealed ammo would be Hornady critical duty for environments like that
Missed this video when it first launched. Came back a year later just to watch the M&P 2.0 dominate... :)
This test aside, M&P 2.0’s are so underrated. Carried an M17 in the Army and ran a handful of glocks but something about the 2.0 is just right. That being said I’d carry any of the three regardless.
Based take, I agree wholeheartedly. Having a sig, glock and m&p myself.
I have the same m&p he has in this video, along with a beretta m9a3 and my m17.. I am however very proud of the m&p shitting on all of the other guns lol
M&P 2.0 is my duty gun, I love it so much
mp 2.0 was my first gun and I always hear lots of good remarks on the choice. Sucks because the mags are more spendy that 3rd party glock mags, but you're obviously getting your money's worth here.
I love my 2.0. Haven’t had a single issue with it. Had the same Glock for over 15 years and not a single issue with it, either. But at the end of the day I just love my 2.0 more.
“The desert eagle’s just a pos so thats par for the course” best dad advice in awhile lol, was legitimately concerned with that cheap explosion gag when firing it
Haha I was cringing hard and then ‘boom’ 🤣🤣
The Glock and M&P surprised me for sure. I was sure that once the glock failed the M&P was right behind it.... since my edc is an M&P9 I was pleasantly surprised.
Would you have stopped carrying it had it done worse?
Let's go! I carry an M&P!
Same m&p shield 40!! Used to be my edc, gotta wait a little till i can walk it
@@ItsEverythingElse No, of course not. Did anything I say imply I would have?
But I wonder about the newer shield plus seeing as though it has a trigger dingus and not the original m&p hinge trigger
I already own an M&P, so I was pleased with these results!
Honestly, the revolver and Glock failing didn’t surprise me at all. Despite having my G19 as my nightstand/EDC gun. The M18, M&P, USP, and the CZ were major surprises though.
The m&p doesn't surprise me at all. I watch torture tests all the time lol
Makes me glad I carry a CZ P-01. All the sub zero Arctic environments I’m in
@@Holycow94WoW same here! That was pretty exciting to see
I did my own cold weather test on my shadow 2. I had the same results. I tested hammer down and hammer back. Hammer down. Absolutely zero failures even with a huge build up of ice. With hammer back I had failure to fire on first hammer strike. I charged the pistol to clear the ice out and it functioned flawlessly afterwords. Same with mud.
It's not overly surprising, if you field strip an m&p and Glock side by side you'll see how much beefier s&w built the m&ps (also why they're so much heavier)
That sound the guns made when you put them in the dry ice was just the ice vibrating against the metal of the guns. As it sublimated the co2 would lift the ice a little bit in order to escape, and then fall back down when it did, just really fast to make that sound
Thanx Bill Nye.

Let the pain begin!
M&P's (especially Gen 2's) are actually really decent pistols, my last Contract we had M&P 40's and they worked great in the harsh north Midwest (sub-arctic line/ zone) winters. The Gen 1's had some quality control issues especially with the polymer lowers' manufacturing inconsistencies along with the ambi-slide catches occasionally shearing off, never had problems with mine though (I also used grease instead of oil for lubricant which helped keep it running when it was covered in snow and ice).
I've long considered picking up a 2.0 to replace my Ruger Security 9 as my full-size winter carry gun. Just haven't had much reason to spend the money. Lol. I have a shield plus as my EDC, just prefer to carry full size whenever it's convenient.

I really enjoy shooting the thing.
>.40 short & weak
Why would you do this to yourself man?
@@Wolf_Larsen Considering my collection includes just about every popular caliber from the 1600s to modern - I don't get hung up on the idiocy of what qualifies as a "trendy" or popular cartridge these days. Anytime anyone critiques a popular cartridge with cutesy and whimsical adaptation of it's name - I just roll my eyes. .40 S&W is easy to find, reasonably cheap, goes bang, and pokes holes in things that I point it at. It isn't a "bad" cartridge by any stretch. Besides - when 40 fell out of popularity a few years ago, I bought thousands and thousands of rounds dirt cheap (cheaper than 9mm per round at the time when 9mm was .25 cents a round.) I guess if you are a one or two gun kinda person - there are better options, but I won't turn down a good shooting firearm in a capable and easy to get cartridge for cheap. Diversity is the spice of life - and I like opening my safes and having a lot of options.
Ridiculous? I don't know. Was tracking a deer once in deep winter, following the trail in the snow. It went through a small gully up tge other side, so down I went. About half way through I find out that the gully was 4 feet of iced over water and I go for a bath. I kept my rifle up out of instinct, but everything below my ribs froze within a minute of climbing out. My Gerber multitool wouldn't even slide open and it was in its sheath.
