      Thank you so much for your nice comment and feedback :) It is really great to hear you are taking steps to enjoy healthy eating via green smoothies. As for myself, I live and teach this and have many more resources like this that are available for anyone who is interested. I recommend checking out my Healthytarian channel, which is where I mostly share food, recipe and healthy eating videos (ua-cam.com/users/healthytarian) and if you'd like to learn more about me/my work, I share everything on my website (www.evitaochel.com). There are free optimal health food guides that you can find there, as well as listing of my online courses, one of which is called "Essentials of Green Smoothies". Cheers and to your best health!

      Seriously agree--your video and demeanor are calming. Other vids have too much music, loud distracting tunes or just music that is anxiety-inducing. There is too much noise pollution already ( stores, offices, restaurants, everywhere has MUSIC!) Thank you, from my body (food education) and my ears (quiet normal video). 😊

    It was a pleasure to be able to listen to Evita's talk on "Yoga Path of Transformation" this past weekend at Grail Springs. If I came away with anything from my 3-day stay at "the Grail" (and I certainly came away with many good experiences) I would say Evita's 2-part speech on the 8 Limbs of Yoga was the most enlightening. I am now subscribing to her youtube channels and plan to incorporate more of her healthytarian way of eating into my diet. I've always thought of myself as a healthy eater, but Evita has changed the way I think about healthy eating. Thank you Evita. I'm so grateful I got to hear you and take part in your yoga practice at the Grail, and now find your healthy eating channel. Susan.

    Wonderful to hear. As for toiletries, there are many brands....I write about many on Evolving Wellness also in the "Skin, Hair, Nails" category. As for ones common in the UK, try Aubrey Organics or Weleda. They are not perfect, but have some good choices & based on your needs may be appropriate. Another option is see what brands your local health food store has and check them on the EWG skindeep database. It will tell you how "natural" or "toxic" something is quickly.

    I usually do kale, banana, celery, carrot and apple! But this morning I added grapes in place of the apple and it was delicious! I am definitely having grapes when I can get them - delicious! I know water is best, but I often add part of a BodyArmor ( no added sugar) coconut water-based drink. I like the peach mango flavor in a green smoothie.

    Hi Thank you for sharing this video. I know it's been around for years, so hope you are still reading comments :)
    I've been doing this basic green smoothie for awhile now and so that made me feel good that I was on the right track :)
    I have started making 1-1/2 batches so I can put the extra in ice cube trays and freeze them for a snack later in the day. It helps pick me up when I start slowing down around 3-4 pm. Have you ever done that? Any reason I shouldn't?

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  5 років тому +1

      You are very welcome Maryann, and yes indeed I still check in here from time to time to address comments. I am so glad that you enjoyed this video and have taken such positive steps to benefit your health.
      Your idea of making smoothie-like ice cream snacks is perfectly fine, and as you probably already know, provides you with one of the healthiest snacks you could eat.
      In general, I recommend for people to drink their smoothies fresh, as this is when you get their highest nutrient integrity, but freezing is still not as destructive to foods, like cooking is. The only other thing to consider is not to eat too much of any cold or freezing food, especially during cold months, as this can interfere with optimal digestion, energy, and function of major organs in general. If you are interested in this, look up Ayurvedic or Traditional Chinese Medicine info about cold vs warm foods.
      By the way, I have a new Green Smoothie template video that you can view here: ua-cam.com/video/JL_DIOjZfq0/v-deo.html

    Aragula is a common one. It is great steamed I find with some lemon juice, but not for smoothies. Typically spinach, collards and kale work excellent. Swiss chard can have a bit of an after taste, but is not bad. I don't use lettuce greens, just because these are easy to eat, no point in blending them. I would also not use rapini as it tends to have a strong taste.

    Very sensible information. Can you help me with a question. I often do a detox which requires three smoothies a day. Often there are at least three different fruits added to the greens? Is that too much sugar?

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for the feedback. With regards to your question, those who see nutrition from a reductionist perspective and those who fear fruits would tell you that would be too much "sugar". However, from a holistic perspective all sugar is not equal and fruits and their wholesome sugars are not a threat to our health, and act very different in many ways than isolated, refined sugar and processed carbohydrate foods.
      On the contrary, fruits are amongst the most perfect foods for the human body, both for healing and protection, along with detox, cleansing, etc. So no, there should be no concern about too many fruits in one's diet, as long as you are eating whole fresh or frozen fruits (not fruit juices or dried fruits), and provided that it is working for you and your health needs.
      To hear some great stuff about detoxing and fruits, try Dr. Robert Morse here on UA-cam, if you haven't come across him yet. Here is a short video from him about fruits (ua-cam.com/video/bM5gn26wdQA/v-deo.html) and here is a longer one about the ideal human diet (ua-cam.com/video/GZN3HGiS4zw/v-deo.html). In addition, here is an article from Forks Over Knives that also answers your question (www.forksoverknives.com/is-it-possible-to-eat-too-much-fruit/). Cheers!

    Hello! I have a question for you, this smoothie you have to drink it inmediately or you can save it refrigerated? Thank you from Argentina

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  6 років тому +1

      Hi Karina. Anytime you cut into or gently process any fruits or vegetables, it is best to consume them fresh. However on a practical level, you can most definitely refrigerate a green smoothie for later. Just be sure to store it in a sealed container with as little free in the jar/bottle as possible. This means fill to the top so as little air is present in the bottle as possible. Then simply keep in the refrigerator and best to consume within 12 to 24 hours.
      When you are ready to drink,yYou may need to shake it a little, as the longer it sits, the more it can start to separate. Also, blueberries are not a good fruit to add to a smoothie that you will not drink right away, as they tend to gel quickly and harden the smoothie. So if you are making smoothies for later consumption, swap blueberries for another fruit. Finally, because these smoothies take less than 5 minutes to make, do consider making them fresh, as much as possible, as you will get much more nutritional benefits that way. Cheers!

      Thanks for your feedback Marcus. Without knowing your full health history and specific health needs, I cannot say for certain. However, in general supplements, especially synthetic vitamins and minerals should not be used unless you have an actual diagnosed deficiency. Scientific research has shown that such isolated nutrients can normally cause more harm than good, not to mention they are a financial drain. Unfortunately, clever supplement marketing and poor advice from a lot of health providers makes people think otherwise.The better way to go is to optimize your diet and trust your food to provide you with what you need, rather than any pill. For more information about this, Dr.McDougall provides a great explanation: ua-cam.com/video/PkzcOY9LmgM/v-deo.html
      If you would like an even more scientific explanation, read the book "Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition" (amzn.to/2EH2peq). Cheers!

    Where I currently live bottled (plastic/zephyr hils) water is the best option I have. It's that or tap and I refuse to touch tap. What do you recommend? I'm not living in a place I can set up my own filtration system :( Also what do you think about adding broccoli sprouts and parsley to this recipe? Will it ruin it or enhance?

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  Рік тому

      With regard to water, indeed you have to pick the best of the worst options in many places in the world today.
      With regard to broccoli sprouts and parsley, those are best left for other meals, including salads and will ruin the flavor and enjoyment of a fruit-leafy green smoothie. Keep it simple for best results.

    Evita how can you use flaxseed of chia seed to blend smoothie if the flaxseed or chia seed are not soaked in water overnight?

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  5 років тому +2

      While most nuts and seeds can and should be soaked in water for a few hours, it is not essential to do that with all. It depends on their digestibility, fat content, etc. And when you are already blending the seeds so finely, they are naturally very easy to digest. Flax and chia both become gelatinous upon being soaked, and in my research are not not seeds of a high soaking priority.

    What kind of smoothie would you recommend for a person who works 3rd shift that wants to replace a "9am lunch" (for some ppl breakfast time) that goes to sleep right after "lunch" and not get the energy boost to prevent them from sleeping but healthy to replace a big meal before sleeping

    • @EvitaOchel

      Sam, there is nothing special required for any such case. The body needs quality nutrients period, at any time of the day when it is awake or in need of a meal. You can get that from any whole food, plant-based green smoothie, which provides a light meal, but a high quality meal. Then, it is just a matter of drinking the right amount for your needs so that you can sleep comfortably.

    Would a Ninja blender be good or a Juicer? I'd love to do your recipe. Im brand new to your channel. Im subbing today

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  3 роки тому

      A blender will make a smoothie whereas a juicer will make a juice. These are two different tools for two completely different food products.
      So to make a green smoothie, such as the one in my video you definitely need a blender - not a juicer. However, whether a Ninja blender will be good enough depends on the kind of Ninja blender you have. If it is the personal NinjaPro blender (like this one: amzn.to/3sr0wcY ), then yes, it is very good. But if it is the Ninja blender that is a full size and has the kind of blade that sticks out in places from top to bottom, then those Ninja blenders are not very good for making green smoothies because they cannot handle blending leafy greens or seeds properly.
      Either way, you should try making it if this is the kind of blender you have to see if it works out for you. Best wishes!

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  4 роки тому

      That is possible, but hopefully only until your taste buds adjust. Otherwise, fresh fruit, especially fully ripe fresh fruit, like bananas and mangoes, should be more than enough sweetness. For optimal health, it is good to experience the range of flavors: sweet, spicy, bitter, etc.

    What is the best option of a liquid of I don’t have filtered water? I have milk, bottled water, and I have almond milk (unsweetened)

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  3 роки тому

      Always water, whatever is the best quality of water that you have and drink is the one to use. So in this case, if bottled water is what you normally drink, then you would just use that. The unsweetened almond milk would be the second-best choice, and dairy milk is out of the question if one is interested in optimal health.

    Evita please share with me information about bottled water. I drink spring water but it is bottled.

    • @EvitaOchel
      @EvitaOchel  4 роки тому

      Jeanetta, most bottled water is called "spring water" and rarely has anything to do with real springs in nature. Bottled water often does not have the high quality, purity or benefits that people think it does given where it comes from and how it is bottled and stored. Secondly, most bottled water companies today are owned by large corporations, such as Nestle, that stand to profit off of people by spreading fear and misinformation, and who control the most necessary substance for life - water, next to air, in monopolistic ways. Thirdly, bottled water has created tremendous inequality and waste in our world, and is a waste of money/financial resources for people. So whenever possible, we should avoid bottled water. The exceptions are being in an area where the tap water is bluntly contaminated or not safe.
      If a person lives in a developed country like Canada, United States, Australia, pretty much all of the European countries and many similar areas, the best thing to do is to invest in a home water filter that meets their needs, and not waste money on bottled water.
      The best water to drink is any of the following:
      1. Clean and safe well water.
      2. Clean and safe spring water directly from natural springs in nature that is collected by us in re-usable containers. (Find a local source here: findaspring.com/)
      3. Filtered tap water.
      Bottled water should be kept to a minimum and saved for places and circumstances where the other 3 are not available.
      For more information, here is a recent article from Time magazine on concerns about bottled water (time.com/5686811/is-bottled-water-safest-best/). And here are a few links to explore the EWG's resources about bottled water contamination and problems:
