Indeed. I am playing the PS3 version and the gameplay and story aged very well. But as a brazilian, I still can't accept the portuguese voice acting, wtf, it's clearly some native english speakers trying to emulate some brazilian portuguese expressions and slangs. It really sucks. Despite this, is still an awesome game.
This game is great . I have it on the 360. But i just bought it on PC. It just reminds me how sloppy games are made these days. Cause this is a masterpiece.
Truly one of the best voice acting in video games , i enjoyed every cutscene and the story telling was just absolutely great. The gameplay is a bit repetitive but i expected it to be so i wasn't disappointed. And the soundtrack was awesome as well
I agree at first i bought Max Payne 3 about 5 or 10 dollars on steam best price to my favorite franchise even it ending it really GOOD to end a Best character to Max Payne 3 Yes i know people want max to be in 4 and return new jersey even though it ended his character
I really recommend playing Max Payne 1 and The fall of Max Payne ( Max Payne 2 ) In order to understand the story and a huge part of Max Payne 3. I really loved the entire franchise!
i don't think you should the only parts that you won't understand are when max mentions mona sax in the graveyard mission,as for the rest the game makes it pretty clear that he has lost his family, why do you have to play the other games, i mean sure they are badass and very very great, but to get the story nah.
my favorite was tears by noise rock band HEALTH,when it played in the airport i thought it was not only Michelle speaking to Max through the lyrics but it was also a very compelling way to get you into the combat shape and start fighting through overwhelming impossible odds.

WH250398 just to clarify because now i am unsure if you realized what you had said, but in Max Payne 1 there's a guy at a door with a slate and the guy says "Password, John who?" and the other guy goes, "John Woo!"
WH250398 I tried playing it again and it's just.. It makes me so fucking angry. The AI hasn't aged very well, and I hate the fact that they can kill me 50 meters away with a shotgun in one hit but I can't do the same almost point blank. lol so much death
I think Michael's based off Max. Both enjoy whiskey, both have bullet-time, and you can even get a hawaiian shirt with a shaved head and a full beard for Michael. You can also shootdodge. Just ragdoll off a building, go into bullet-time, and keep shooting an uzi until you hit the ground.
This game was amazing but I still wish it was a game in dark American cities. Even the piano music and him narrating stuff and so on, just fit PERFECTLY with the noire feel. It was a great game though, just could've been even cooler.
The game was amazing, and i think the change away from new york made this the series highlight for me. It would've been awesome in new york but by moving it away they've set the (hopefully) new max payne up to be back in america and it'll be even darker than the rest and it will feel fresh because the last one wasnt in america. I personally think its a great move. Cannot wait for the next one.
definitely my favorite game of all time, I've played every difficulty twice! And I still go back every once in a while to play the arcade modes, The shooting matched with the ragdoll physics and the blood/Gore animations are literally what keep me coming back 10/10
This game is incredibly underrated by the gaming public. The ONLY negative for me were the long cutscenes you cannot skip. Online Multiplayer is simple, yet incredibly addictive.
Oh yeah I peeped that out too. You can still skip some cutscenes but that opportunity is too far and in between. You also die quite often and are some moments when you can't pop in a pain killer until you shoot the guy who's shooting at you which can be a chore when they're behind you. Other than that I give it between a 9/10 or 10/10. Sometimes I enjoy it more than GTA V.
+CommonlySane94 Plus, you could also skip the cutscenes in the previous games.I know the game is supposed to have story, but the other ones had story and you could skip cutscenes.
Max Payne is one of the most relatable characters I'n video games.. I've been depressed and felling dead inside for a long time and cope by drinking and smoking and getting into bar fights.heres to you max Payne 🚬🥃🥃🍻
Great game. Great shooting mechanics, interesting hidden things to find in the map (I enjoyed finding all of them on my first run), and great themes with well-made cinematic cutscenes/themes to back it up. Interesting story on corruption and shows the world from the point of view from a man who's lost everything. Really enjoyed it!
@@DMVGREY but its third person shooter we are talking about. Obviously gameplay comes first and no other tps could even come close to mp3 s combat and shooting mechanics
This by far is one of the best games I've ever played. R* really outdid themselves with this one. I'm willing to say this is one of my top 5 games from R* and top 20 overall of the past decade.
Yeah I heard about that. Some players had an issue just downlading it on their PS3 aside from the loading issue. I wouldn't mind them continuing the franchise until a fifth installment. I mean if they do I don't think it will be as milked like other popular franchises with a new game every year or two.
I'd love a new Max Payne. Like Max Payne alone in Middle East vs. ISIS (I know it's weird but I DREAM to see that). Right now Rockstar's teasing for a new Red Dead game, so I guess they'll have their hands full with cowboy stuff for a while. As much as I like the sound of that I'd prefer a new Max Payne.
Actually he could be even a protagonist in the next GTA since he pretty much left the cops, he is hunted in home, so he is pretty much in the state of other GTA characters who are freelancers and take jobs. He could even get to finish the job with that Demarco guy once and for all as a subplot to the next gta.
Logan Malone Still very unlikely considering the entire force was after him and then he was suspect to the murder of Winterson as evidenced by the comics. He is pretty much in the same position as CJ and Niko Belic.
I mean as repetitive as rockstar's design formula of "shoot shit" is, especially in this game, I absolutely loved the story and max's narrations/thoughts in his head.
Huge negatives he missed out: -Long cutscenes that you cannot skip, you will have to sit through 5-6 minute long cutscenes often to get to the gameplay. -Those annoying video effects are constant, every 2-4 seconds during the cutscenes and they happen even during gameplay some times. It's excessive and irritating. -If you die you are often left to a few seconds of a cutscene that you can't skip, so get used to max saying a line.
I've got the PC version as well, hit a button "Loading" or whatever it said, only when it popped up stating I can skip did it let me. Mainly it was from the level to level loading taking ages.
The cutscenes disguise loading screens. If the cutscenes weren't there you'd just be looking at a progress bar and there would be hardly any time difference.
I'm well aware, but that does not excuse either the cutscenes or the loading times. No other game has loading times spanning 3 minutes or more. Saints Row 3, open world game, only loading screen is 6 seconds on PC Crysis has no loading nearly that bad and it's a far more demanding game. Max Payne is a series of tiny maps, yet it has massive load times even on PC with a 30GB install. I don't slam games often but the game is inexcusably bad. I want to like it, I find myself enjoying bits of it but between the aggravating video effects, load times and on rails levels it's just not a fun or well made game.
I never understood it. Not for one second did GTA seem to take influence from the right parts of MP3. Just the 'shooty shooty slow mo' part. Instead of the best weapon models I've seen in a game, the satisfying gunplay, and other stuff they forgot (no revolvers? C'mon rockstar, that's just wrong) If this were a perfect world, GTA 5 would have Max Payne 3's shooting mechanics without any deviation. INCLUDING crouching and prone. Come on, Rockstar!
DECICIVETOAST GTA V is overrated as fuck. Very fun, but overrated as fuck. I loved almost every game mechanic in Max Payne 3, but what GTA V tried to take from MP3 seemed to be just a shittier version of everything. For example, the bullet holes in bodies and the cover system were a lot better than in GTA V, why didn't they make it like that? And don't get me started on the fact that you can't crouch and the shitty unrealistic weapons. Also, is it me or both Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption have better graphics than GTA V?
channel5980 Oh no, you're right. RDR and MP3 had more detailed environments. And the weapons in MP3 were something to behold. I mean, if you looked closely when using a shotgun you could see the action cycling another shell into the chamber. Gah, what the hell happened!? Why did we get such sub par junk? Overrated's an understatement friend.
channel5980 Graphics are better in Max Payne because it isn't an open world game. The engine didn't have to generate as much. The current consoles would not be able to handle it. Graphics in GTA5 should be better in the re release for PC and the new consoles.
While Max Payne 3 may not be to everyone's taste or might not live up to the original two, I think this game is possibly a highly underrated game. Most people who played this game think that when Max Payne 3 was coming, the game should be set in New York. I can't imagine the surprise on everyone's faces when we found out it was gonna be in Brazil. However, I think this was a good decision from Rockstar. The way they explained why he left America was top notch and the whole thing made sense. He wasn't gonna stay in a country that had too many painful memories, he had to move on with his life. Most people are disappointed that the nightmare sequences are gone from the game, I believe that once again this was a good decision. This is trying to explain that Max wants to move on with his life and forget what happened in the first game. Plus, his anger at what happened had pretty much been settled after the first game, he got his revenge on everyone involved in that plot. Also, most people have probably forgotten how much of a fucking pain it was to get through the first games nightmares. The whole parkour sequences in that were really annoying. Lastly, I would like to point out that Rockstar wanted to make a game that was both challenging for die-hard fans, and welcoming for newcomers. In this sense, they achieved their goal with Max Payne 3. This game is tough but fair, if the game gets too hard they will give you an extra painkiller to give you an advantage, that still doesn't mean you'll breeze through that part of the game. You will die a lot in this. Overall, I would recommend you buy this game and at least play it for yourself before making your own opinions.
I do like the fact that Rockstar took a gamble and moved the setting to Brazil... I just kinda wish they had more of a reason to do it. The main motivation of Max moving to Brazil to sign on with the Branco's was because he pissed off a mob boss after killing his son and it was too much to risk staying in New York for it. Really? Max Payne... the same Max Payne that took on two different mafias and a corrupt pharmaceutical conglomerate with professional black-ops training? Yet this mob boss throws some enemies at Max and it forces him to leave New York entirely? I'm sorry, but that just felt weak. Especially since all Max had to do was leave the bar and Passos would have followed him trying to convince, Max to join him in Brazil. I am glad they got rid of the nightmare sequences. While the first game's nightmare sequences weren't terrible, they were frustrating beyond belief due to the somewhat clunky controls. Too often I would fall off into the abyss below because Max would just slide off randomly. And too often I would get lost trying to find my way out of that nightmare. So I'm not upset they are gone in MP3. I don't know how much I would say "fair." The game is defiantly hard, significantly more-so then MP2 which I felt was way too easy compared to MP1, but the game can have some cheap moments in it. Often Max will get shot by an enemy, enter into "The Last Stand" but cannot get the guy that shot you because the camera is being eclipsed by a piece of the terrain, protecting the goon while damning you. In story mode, I can forgive this to since you'll reload from a pretty forgiving checkpoint system... but if you're going for the Platinum Medals, oh boy... then it really sucks since you get literally one shot to get through the entire level with no checkpoints whatsoever. And it doesn't help that enemies tend to have an immaculate aim to the point where they can hit you/down you the instant they pop out of cover, costing you the game and or a pill bottle. Now, again, this isn't terrible since the levels aren't terribly long... except for the abandoned hotel and prison, those two levels were the bane of my existence when going for the Plat Medals. In the end, I still really, really liked MP3. The game is easily one of the best shooters I have ever played and easily has become one of the best damn trilogies I have ever played. All three games are perfect in their own way. MP3 felt like a pretty nice blend of the prior two games. Yes, it has its faults. Like the confusing reason to leave New York and the sometimes cheap-as-hell AI, but all-in-all, its still one of the best shooters I've played and I'll continue to play it over and over again, regardless of its faults... and the fact that the leaderboards on the PC version is completely screwed, just like in the original Mirrors Edge.
The setting being away from New York had fuck all to do with people's disappointment. His story arc was over in Max Payne 1 if truth be told. The only reason the sequel worked at all was because they brought back Mona Sax who escaped death in the first game, off screen like Kenny did in the walking dead game. By the End of Max Payne 2 Max is cool. He's dealt with his losses and is moving on with his life. Then we get 3 and he's fucked up all over again as if 2 didn't happen. The only reason 3 was even made was because they wanted to show the franchise on next gen just like how the developers for Infamous wanted to bring Infamous back for the next gen although the story was told and wrapped up in infamous 2 which showed that the protagonist sacrificed his life to end the threat once and for all and most of the people with abilities died out putting the world back to normal. Max payne 3's weakest point was its story. Most people couldn't relate to him anymore and couldn't connect.
Loop Hole relax try being alone for 9 years after everyone you love dies and see if you can recuperate be realistic Mona is dead, all his colleagues dead, his family dead. Max is a good man and because of that he’s not going to become some Agent 47 emotionless killer max thinks and reflects and he will feel bad after being alone for too long and 9 years is more than enough time to send someone down the drain. Be reasonable don’t be such a pompous ass sitting on your 1 & 2 high horse all three games are different.
I think everyone was burnt out on New York when this game came out. GTA 4 had been all about NYC. It was nice to have a fresh setting, outside of the US. The New York fans still had two chapters set there (well, New Jersey).
Replaying this game right now, The last kill slowdowns, emptying your clip for the hell of it, the small details in animations when reloading/getting into cover, and best of all, Max Payne's one liners, it's such a treat to play.
Brilliant Game, sublime story, revitalized gameplay. and the soundtrack is unreal. easily my favourite of the Max Payne series, online is loads of fun too. the monologues were somemorable too and very quotable. finished the game like 5 times, 6th playthrough at the moment. even makes nods to other games. "There are two kinds of people: ones that are trying to build their future and ones that are trying to rebuild their past."
is it me or does max payne look like Micheal de Santa from gta 5 no really both men wear gray suits, have beards, and both men can even activate Bullet Time or slow down time while on foot. I am convinced that Michael de Santa is Max Payne ' s long lost twin brother or at the very least his identical cousin.
+Kevin Rorie Most likely that Michael De Santa is inspired by Max Payne, since the shooting mechanics for the game and GTA V are quite similar (just lacking the shootdodge maneuver in the latter), as well as their similarities in looks.
Masterpiece! Max Payne 3 not only stands the test of time - it improves with age - I've just replayed through at 4K 120hz AA x4 using an LG C2 42 inch. Whilst I remember it's clear that Max 3 inspired John Wick & Co. Everything about the game is utterly magnificent. The soundtrack, sound design, ambient SFX, art, gun-play, story, direction, character arc, mechanics...it's a marvel of game-craft and, it is a better game than previous two, of which I also adore. It's rare a film or games action starts well and becomes superior the further towards the end you get. Those who have already completed know what I mean. The fizz you feel from walking into a nightclub to an airport - unparalleled in any game. One of, if not the greatest games - let alone action games of all-time!
Max Payne 3 is the closest thing we have to a John Wick game. Not only the game's mechanics but both their lives also have similarities with one another. The last Airport shootout in Max Payne 3 is literally John Wick fighting to get to the church in Chapter 4.
Can some fucking body, especially so called "fans" of the series, explain me why they like it so fucking much? Because I the huge fan of the remedy games and I can't see why this crap should be called Max Payne. It lacks the narrative of the first two games, it lacks the main hero and his turmoils of the first two games, and it has nothing to do with the first two fucking games! It absolutely ruins the ending of the second game (don't even try to tell me that this "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was all right." can be interpreted as "he became a fucking alcoholic"), it is just a fucking movie with unskipable cutscenes and godawful filters. What the fuck is wrong with you people, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
I'm the exact same. I loved the first two games (picked both up for £1) but as soon as I came to play this, it all felt too much. Too much swearing, no real reason why Max goes on a spree, video effects that made my head ache. Yeah, we get a glimpse of Mona but it was really bad. I think it's Rockstar trying to cater a wider audience.
i love it...sorry guess we just have different opinions, but MP3 is my fav of the 3. I think 2 has the best story but i just love 3 overall more. The story is still noirish albeit its more "documentary" styled than the comic style. The graphics are great esp on pc, The writing in the dialogue is still great imo, and the gameplay is my fav in the 3rd. and the soundtrack.... HOLY SHIT the soundtrack is amazing.
StrawberryRainPop In what way is sunny Brazil and a Bald "Max Payne" with a tropical shirt noire too you? The most noir this game got was the flashback missions with Passos in New Jersey and even those were ruined by colorful filters and texts during cutscenes. MP3 is a great game but not a good Max Payne game. Now that Im replaying MP 1 and 2 on PC after beating both on PS2 5 yrs ago I cant view "Max Payne" from MP3 as being a true Max Payne. Hes just soo different.
If you have not played the previous ones and/or didn't like the previous ones, don't get this one. Simple. I adore the whole trilogy and I play the whole trilogy over and over again. The cutscenes don't bother me because of how engrossing the story is.
As the video ended and the related video squares pop up, my only thought was purchasing the reviewed game at the local GameStop. My hand darted the mouse to the comments section to post a narrative comment. After finishing my piece of shit comment, I hover my mouse to the Post button. Merry Christmas fuckers.
Just beat this game yesterday, I played 1-3 and it was probably my second favorite one besides 2 and can still say it holds up and still to this day gets updates to fix the game. Plus the story in this game was sooo good and interesting and kept you on that edge of your seat
Disagree, but I loved part 3 too. Great game even with the aesthetic changes. The gunplay in 3 is the best of the series by far--I've never had more fun shooting people in a game than I did playing this one.
A solid 9/10 from me, would like to skip the 5-6 min cutscenes for a replay, and no - it's not a cover for loading the game as many people claim. I have 2x Samsung 830 SSD's at raid-0 rated at over 1000mb/s, they load anything you throw at them in less than seconds. Very good gameplay and story tho!
While I enjoyed MP3 it definitely was not as good as the first 2 games asthetic and story wise. Those games are legendary. I still play the first 2 games til this day especially MP2 cause the ragdoll physics are so fun and satisfying to play with...
i loved this game. it's so dark, gritty and brutal that it actually made me feel unsettled at times.. and that's pretty awesome..something i haven't' really experienced in a game before
wish they remastered this, along with its full multiplayer for the latest consoles. i own a pc, so i do have it. however, the community is now tiny.. would be a welcomed game
This game will always be one of my top 5 games of the xbox 360/ps3 time. Just got done playing through it again on hardcore mode and the story was just as fantastic as the first time. I can't see myself getting tired of returning to this game. Wouldn't mind seeing another max payne come around like this one.
Recently replayed it. Aged like a fine wine. Play it again, the cutscenes aren't THAT annoying...

@@robosexual8822you cannot get in bullet time when in ragdoll
They just recycled his assets in GTA 5. There's a way to make them look a like: shave michael, give him a beard and buy a colored shirt in Sub Urban
Tengu Shredder You can but.. it has to wait to load for you to skip it.... SOME BULLSHIT RIGHT THERE
definitely my favorite game of all time, I've played every difficulty twice!
I think the cutscene problem is kind of overreacting...
Long cutscene but no loading screen... I think its better watch a cutscene..
+CommonlySane94
Plus, you could also skip the cutscenes in the previous games.I know the game is supposed to have story, but the other ones had story and you could skip cutscenes.
When you realize that most shooters still try to reach the level of this games ...
To this day no other TPS came even close to MP3. That speak for itself.
@@DMVGREY but its third person shooter we are talking about. Obviously gameplay comes first and no other tps could even come close to mp3 s combat and shooting mechanics
_Control_ (the Remedy game) did, and arguably surpassed Max Payne 3.
@@zahinelahi2655 Resident Evil 6 has like 100 more control options
@@vctoothpick1455 resident evil 6 doesnt even come close to max payne 3. the physics and response in max payne 3 are second to none.

This by far is one of the best games I've ever played. R* really outdid themselves with this one. I'm willing to say this is one of my top 5 games from R* and top 20 overall of the past decade.
same here one of my favs only one problem with it it first had trouble loading on my ps3 the first few times
Yeah I heard about that. Some players had an issue just downlading it on their PS3 aside from the loading issue. I wouldn't mind them continuing the franchise until a fifth installment. I mean if they do I don't think it will be as milked like other popular franchises with a new game every year or two.
You PS3 users should see the graphics on this awesome game on PC! Seriously! It's way better than the PS3 or Xbox, not trying to hate! Just sayin' XD
Vlinnstone. vW i know
Maxwell Bosserman XD
Still playing Max Payne 3 in 2023 game is really a masterpiece.
We need Max to be a mission giver in the next GTA game XD
***** The next gta is supposed to have the option of being a cop. Maybe Max will be another officer or a police chief?
Logan Malone Still very unlikely considering the entire force was after him and then he was suspect to the murder of Winterson as evidenced by the comics.
He is pretty much in the same position as CJ and Niko Belic.
I think Brazil in GTA would be better
I mean as repetitive as rockstar's design formula of "shoot shit" is, especially in this game, I absolutely loved the story and max's narrations/thoughts in his head.
One of my favourite games of all time
Best intro ever.

Come on, comrades! He's a man, not a god!
Huge negatives he missed out:
-Long cutscenes that you cannot skip, you will have to sit through 5-6 minute long cutscenes often to get to the gameplay.
-Those annoying video effects are constant, every 2-4 seconds during the cutscenes and they happen even during gameplay some times. It's excessive and irritating.
-If you die you are often left to a few seconds of a cutscene that you can't skip, so get used to max saying a line.
The review was his opinion.
I have it on the pc and I can skip the cutscenes just by hitting A.
Saints Row 3, open world game, only loading screen is 6 seconds on PC
Crysis has no loading nearly that bad and it's a far more demanding game.
IGN should substract 1 to GTA V's score and give it to Max Payne so it can have the ten it deserves.
I never understood it. Not for one second did GTA seem to take influence from the right parts of MP3. Just the 'shooty shooty slow mo' part. Instead of the best weapon models I've seen in a game, the satisfying gunplay, and other stuff they forgot (no revolvers? C'mon rockstar, that's just wrong)
If this were a perfect world, GTA 5 would have Max Payne 3's shooting mechanics without any deviation.
Also, is it me or both Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption have better graphics than GTA V?
channel5980
Oh no, you're right.
Graphics in GTA5 should be better in the re release for PC and the new consoles.
channel5980
i totaly agree with you dude, i cant stand GTA V
Be reasonable don’t be such a pompous ass sitting on your 1 & 2 high horse all three games are different.
its mah favourite tps woohoo this fucking game is awesome
I think everyone was burnt out on New York when this game came out. GTA 4 had been all about NYC. It was nice to have a fresh setting, outside of the US. The New York fans still had two chapters set there (well, New Jersey).

"like all the bad things in my life, its started with a death of a woman" -Max's Evergreen quote

Fun fact. The mission where max is at the yacht is the spitting image of the gta 5 yacht

Incredible game, superb story-telling and extremely good voice-acting. I loved how Max's life gets continually worse and worse.
Who is the angriest? Max Payne for his tough life, Angry Joe for this game, or Me for Joe saying this game isn't a 10/10 or at least a 9/10?
Looking back 4 years ago, Joe hasn't changed that much since then. I don't understand what other people are bitching about.
Looking back 10 years I agree
After learning what happened to James McCaffrey, revisiting this review reminds me of how awesome the Max Payne games are, and to honor his memory
is it me or does max payne look like Micheal de Santa from gta 5 no really both men wear gray suits, have beards, and both men can even activate Bullet Time or slow down time while on foot. I am convinced that Michael de Santa is Max Payne ' s long lost twin brother or at the very least his identical cousin.
not really. he looks like John hamm aka don't draper lol
Kevin Rorie You guys know Michael's appearance is influenced by Payne and Robert Deniro's character in Heat, right?
I was talking about max Payne in max Payne 3 but yea Joe is def pulling off the max payne de Nero and tom cruise collateral suit well lol
no
+Kevin Rorie Most likely that Michael De Santa is inspired by Max Payne, since the shooting mechanics for the game and GTA V are quite similar (just lacking the shootdodge maneuver in the latter), as well as their similarities in looks.
I went to gamestop last month and got this for 3 dollars, went home, and took my Xbox 360 out of the closet for one more use
Playin it as soon as Microsoft announced it was backwards compatible...waited a long time and its just as good
Masterpiece!
Special mention for the SOUNDTRACK ¡It's damn awesome!
Its from Emicida...
WHATEVER!
i love it...sorry guess we just have different opinions, but MP3 is my fav of the 3.
Sasuke Uchiha The themes were still Noirish, all the betrayal and mistrust. I can understand some old fans not liking the change, but i welcome it :)

If you have not played the previous ones and/or didn't like the previous ones, don't get this one. Simple.
I adore the whole trilogy and I play the whole trilogy over and over again. The cutscenes don't bother me because of how engrossing the story is.

Disagree, but I loved part 3 too. Great game even with the aesthetic changes. The gunplay in 3 is the best of the series by far--I've never had more fun shooting people in a game than I did playing this one.
