    Yea did this job twice on our ford escape. This alternator has been replaced before because there’s a plastic cover over the back of the alternator to pull air from a “cleaner” location. Have to remove that to get the alternator out of its hole. Happy thanksgiving to you and your family. Thanks for sharing!

    Everything is a pain in the a$$ now to remove. I remember the alternator being in the top right side of car. 2 bolts, a pivot point and a slider adjuster bolt. 5 minutes to swap out. The good old days 😅 nice work Will. 👍

      The good old days before they started cramming 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag.
      Never thought the day would come when a customer would be considering replacing the car or the alternator.
      Thanks for the compliment and taken the time.

      Glad I was able to make the video work, I was debating this one because of how involved it was and hard to see most anything with my own eyes let alone recording it. Thanks James, I wish you and your family a happy thanksgiving as well.

    I just finished doing this job about an hour ago on my friends Escape.
    It took me 9 hrs (incl stopping for some lunch.).
    I put it back together in about 1 1/2 hours but the first 7 were a nightmare.
    I laughed like hell when your video showed 2.5 hrs work time.
    That might be ok if someone has done it before but not a first timer like myself.
    What kind of smoke are these so called engineers on ????
    Common items like alternators, water pumps, AC pumps that frequently fail need to have easy access.
    This ford alternator and water pumps on a volkswagon are ridiculous. I honestly believe the car companies do this on purpose so that you must bring it in for service so that they can rip people off.

    And I thought that replacing the alternator on a 2007 GMC Acadia 3.6L AWD was a bear. This one takes the cake. Whatever happened to the days when you changed out an alternator in 30 minutes taking your time?

  • @joeandgod1

    There was a time you could replace an alternator with a wrench in your driveway. Now it’s a thousand dollar job at the dealer. Stuff like this is why some people drive their cars to destruction because they can’t afford to fix them.

    • @robinsonsauto
      @robinsonsauto  7 місяців тому

      Couldn’t have summed it up better. Cars come in, in such disrepair. compiled issues due to the cost. Next thing you know you have a 10 years old car in route to the salvage yard. Engineered to a certain life cycle. Disposable investments

    Nice work Will Happy thanksgiving 1 question what’s the way u straighten pins in a connector? I’m trying to straighten pins in a 16 pin connector when tailgate was removed to install a salt spreader then owners workers tried to install tailgate after spreader not needed Is there a tool u use? Thank you far the compliment. Hope you had a great thanksgiving as well.
      Hmm 🤔 all depends how bent. If I can fix with tweezers I’d attempt to get it very close. Enough to start. Don’t work the pin to much or it will break.
      I have also unpinned connectors one at a time and they tend to naturally
      straighten in the process.
      De pinning tools come in handy

      @robinsonsauto  7 місяців тому +1

      @@krisc3115I agree, they should always be returned to the original configuration. I’m sure it helps with getting cleaner air. as we know now they fail with or with out. If I was giving the option I’d leave it in place. the old one we pulled out, came back as 2016 that’s as far as I took it, to see if it had a warranty. Seems it may have lasted 7yrs. Definitely not justification.
