If you over tighten the rear screw, it can also cause the bolt to bind up. I now torque the rear screw to ten inch pounds with thread locker to keep it from backing out on its own.
@rockybrumley1693 I experimented with my particular receiver to see what the threshold was before binding occurred. It might not work for every receiver. It just works for mine.
I fixed two patriot rifles magazine guide by placing two tabs of duct tape on the bottom of the trigger assembly which rests on the foot of the magazine guide. That moves the action load from the top to the bottom. That shims the action up 1/16".

Just overpaid for a used Patriot in 30-06 with cammo stock and the amazing(sarcasm), Dead Ringer scope. I’ll ditch the scope fast. Hope to get a few shots out of it today. Not even going to check accuracy until I get comfortable shooting aught six again. Ordered a RCBS Summit press and the RCBS Match dies and will see what this thing can do against the Ruger American. Has anyone else noticed that Mossberg put the red dot (that signifies safety off/fire position) in the opposite location of where it should be? My nephew’s rifle incorrectly shows the fire position indicator where the safety on position is.
One other solution if this does not work out. I changed just because I wanted an adjustable stock. If your action screws are the same as my Patriot .308 Win, then the MDT LSS Gen 2 Chassis will fit. All aluminum, no other bedding necessary, truly free floating. I also put on a folding stock adapter and the MDT SCS butt stock. Makes for a long LOP but I have long arms. Changed from the single one inch mounts for the Vortex Crossfire II and put on a rail and a Vortex Venom 5x-25x / 56 mm FFP and even after 60 rounds, it is a 1 MOA rifle, me being the biggest cause of that. I know I pulled on the last trigger pull. Or, if necessary, you might get a replacement mag sleeve and find some way to fill that in? Maybe? A lot of a work for a budget rifle, I know. And me buying a MDT rig certainly busted the budget cap for the rifle but hey, it was fun and I enjoy it.
You might want to shim the cutout in the stock where the rear of the action is supported. That should prevent you from spreading the rear of the plastic insert.

I just bought one, just took her out to sight in the Scope. I had it hitting Bullseye at 100 yards after 12 shots. Mine is a .243. No problems with it.
I own 4 Mossberg partriots and i've never had a problem with any of them not shooting good ... if you buy a budget rifle then first you need to understand it's just that a budget rifle...
Maybe in the 80's sure but these days there are budget rifles capable of moa groups at 100 yards, I recently sold my 30-06 patriot and bought 6.5 cm patriot, the 30 would regularly shoot moa groups when i was capable of it so I'm exited to see if I can do better with the 6.5
I know this video is old but I bought a boyds stock for my patriot. Then I bought a metal ai mag well for it to get rid of the cheap plastic. And now I have a gunsmith pillar bedding it. Hoping to make this thing an absolute tack driver. Because I have too much $$ into it to ever sell it for a profit...

Thank you. Well, after some careful measurements, l had a hard plastic "block" made up on a 3DPrinter, and it works a treat, spreading the load when torqing down the set bolt. I have only used as 35 inch pounds, simply because it is all plastic. No cracked magazine holder - Thank you for your insight.
I have a patriot in 375 Ruger this gun will not shoot a descent group no matter what. You are right the stocks are a piece of junk. These guns are a total crap shoot when you buy one, you might get one that is OK but the odds are you will get a piece of crap. I will never ever buy another Mossberg. I called them about this gun and they said the accuracy was within their standards sure not mine. I will never hunt with this gun.
If your shopping for a budget gun. Great. The magazine support will eventually crack and the magazine will fall out under recoil. I accuglassed mine in and pillar bedded it. Then the outside of the stock under the action has begun to warp. The plastic stock is great for a person who shoots 2 to 3 rounds a year. Bonds, and mpx have replacement stocks. They cost more than the original rifle. But if your going to use it. Replace it.
Also having accuracy problems with my Patriot in 30-06. Rear action screw threads all the way thru so that if you over tighten the screw will prevent the bolt from moving. That being said, what I am noticing is that when tightened the FRONT action screw passes through the receiver and comes in direct contact with the threads on the barrel. Barrel threads show clear signs of being flattened. Time for a pro?
I dont get it. The flat part of the receiver (the one through which the action bolt goes) rests on the flat section of the magazine well guide. So when you tighten the bolt up, these two parts should be perfectly against each other taking up most of the squeezing forces, thus preventing from cracking.. Why the crack? Overtightening?
I agree they "should" make total contact, but they don't. The mid section that accepts the magazine, makes contact with the trigger base and leaves a huge gap then between the base of the receiver and this piece. Because it contacts the trigger it allows the bolt passing through to crack the plastic with simple hand tightening the screw, hence the need for a shim/ spacer.
i dont know. In my case, both receiver and mag.well make a firm contact against each other at their respective flat parts. No cracking issue so far. I also set bolts on a blue thread locker just in case.
@@partisan5695 You are correct. There is no problem with the design and they mate perfectly flat with no gap. If you severely over torque the screw though, you can break something.
I think mine is total junk! What i plan to do is get a boyds or even a wood after market Mossberg stock for it. The think its like a childs toy with the "plastic" stock its in now. The whole thing wobbles. If the gun dosnt work well after i put it in a new stock i plan to sell it and never look back! JUNK!
I have this rifle in .300 win mag accuracy wasn't great at first 4 to 5 MOA the accuracy is now under 1 MOA it just took about 100 rounds to straighten out on its own. I don't know how much time you put into shooting it. I find this to be true of many new rifles. Including .22lr's today I don't know why.

10 inch lbs is not enough for an action screw. Where did you get that number from?

On my rifle the back of the mag insert rests on top of the front on the trigger assembly and there is no void to fill or am I missing something 🤷🏼♂️
You might want to shim the cutout in the stock where the rear of the action is supported. That should prevent you from spreading the rear of the plastic insert.

Many folks have had issues with Mossberg Patriots being accurate. I think it has something to do with that mag guide. design.

The exact same thing happened to my patriot when torquing down that screw.
