    Nice to see them put a walnut stock on this rifle.
    Its too bad this whole "tactical" thing took over and now everyone makes rifles with black plastic stocks.

      I don’t hunt nor do I think I will any time soon. But I’ve been seriously considering getting this gun.
      Just because I don’t have a hunting style rifle in my collection and I just love the old school wood hunting rifle look it has.
      Would you say it’d be stupid for someone like me to get one?

    Bought the .308 w/Vortex package for $500. Dropped the first deer I shot right where it stood with 150g Federal Power Shok at maybe 85 yds. This rifle looks classic, shoots well, the Vortex holds zero well and is plenty bright. All in all a great package if you are looking--get one! Just bought a Patriot with the Vortex scope combo in .308. Chose the black synthetic stock for now. FYI Boyds is working on replacement stocks for this Patriot line and I plan to utilize one once available. They told me to check back with them mid to late summer. I'm planning on getting a thumb hole one. This is a great rifle to consider if your on a budget. Primarily planning to use on south Texas hogs but it should prove to be a good all around utility rifle. Want to note its my second Vortex scope product and I'm equally impressed with it. Price the rifle and scope independently and you can see its a killer deal getting the two paired together right out of the box.

    • @blaws6684
      @blaws6684 2 роки тому

      I had that happen too. My gun guy checked and the model number specifically for the vortex is what he ordered for me. He got the distributor to admit he was selling through them so fast he had to order the cheaper dead ringer to keep up. I said yeah that’s fine so where’s my $40, the difference in price at wholesale? My dealer was pissed when he realized he was being cheated for almost $2000 with what he had sold to that point.
      That said , the dead ringer isn’t a bad scope for the short action calibers. As long as the price is right it’s a fair deal. But they are not an even swap with the vortex at any level.

      @jaydee5156 8 років тому +1

      +JOSH Pittman You can get the Patriot with the walnut stock for less than $380 and with a Vortex scope for less than $500. If you prefer a synthetic stock, you can get a Patriot with a non-branded scope for less than $330. Sure Tikkas are fine, but where are you getting a Tikka for $150 less than any of these prices?

    • @joshpittman6021
      @joshpittman6021 8 років тому +1

      I said save an "Extra" 150 dollars as in save a little more money to put towards a little more expensive gun. People who are buying a mossberg in general probably don't have much money, but if you're gonna spend 400 dollars what's 150 more for a much better gun. Moa accuracy doesn't impress me nearly every rifle produce now days can do it or better. It's just quality I would be more concerned with.

    • @jaydee5156
      @jaydee5156 8 років тому

      +JOSH Pittman Very few of the the hunters I know, have ever heard of Tikka and prefer familiar Rugers, Remingtons and so on and have no idea what MOA means, yet their freezers are full for the season. Their rifles won't see daylight again until September. Most have only one rifle and one shotgun that does all they want. $150 or even $15...they wouldn't spend it. I don't hunt, but I do enjoy shooting sports and I collect. I'm more of a handgun guy and I don't mind spending extra for a quality 1911. For my rifles, I generally buy lower end guns, from companies I know. I'll toss out the synthetic stock and add a nice looking wood stock and add a scope. If it already has a scope, that's good enough for my needs. Most of my shooting is 25 to 100 yards, with some occasional shots at 200 yards. I have Mossberg shotguns, but had no idea they made rifles. The Patriot was the first rifle I've purchased that needed nothing. The wood stock looks great and the supplied Vortex scope meets my needs and then some. It only took a few shots to get it hitting where I wanted. All for less than $500. What more could I ask? Something I've learned, is with guns, like many other things, you can spend as much as you want. You can get a rifle and scope with a synthetic stock for around $300 or so, or you can go for a Kilimanjaro Doctari, that starts at nearly $20,000 plus upgrades and scope. I'm quite happy with the Mossberg.

    • @joshpittman6021
      @joshpittman6021 8 років тому

      All of what you are saying is true. Remingtons and rugers are heads and shoulders better built guns then mossberg. For long term use and somebody that will shoot there rifle over and over again I would get something of more quality then a mossberg. I was just trying to lead people in a much better direction. My next gun I will buy will be a savage model 12 low profile in 300wsm. Not because it's an expensive gun but because it's made well and shoots great. Savage is a cheap gun considering what you can pay 900 for the one I want 500-700 for a good scope. At the end of the day with 99 percent of things you pay for what you get.

      Thanks for the response I really do appreciate it. I too was leaning towards the 7mm Rem Mag myself. I live in Florida where most ranges are 200 or less, but we do have open field areas and pastures where the shots can be double that. Most people here hunt with .243, .270 and .30-06 mostly, but it seems that 7mm has gained popularity here recently for those longer shots. Ammo is available at every Walmart, Academy Sports, and Gander Mountain around here for pretty good prices. Most people around here as far as projectiles go use anything form the old fashoned Core-Lokt's to Hornady Superformance SST's which I really like.

      I agree, but I put a 24 on mine, as it was immediately available, but would have preferred a 25 or 26in barrel. It shoots sub MOA now with the cheap factory Stevens 200 stock. I like the longer barrel for slower powders and bigger bullets. I like at least a 24 on ANY bolt gun other than a lever gun, carbine, pistol or home defense shotgun.

    With the rifles out today 1 MOA, depending on the caliber that rifle is, isn't very impressive for a $500 dollar rifle. Ruger Predators are typically 1/2 MOA or better with factory ammo!

    I just bought one in 6.5 creedmore in December 2023, the quality control is absolutely terrible. The stock had a noticeable warp and was actually touching the barrel in places, it also has an incredibly loose action, and headspace issues from factory. Absolutely would not recommend this rifle

    • @RonSpomerOutdoors

      Because it was comfortable and convenient. Modern, one-piece main tube riflescopes are not so fragile that they break under the weight of an 8-pound rifle. In more than 50 years of picking up rifles by their scopes, I've yet to detect subsequent scope damage. I do not recommend using scopes to pound tent stakes.

    A 22-inch Barrel would be good for a hundred yards or less .
    Possibly good for youth on their first rifle when they're not going to shoot at anything over a hundred yards
