The spiraling on the bolt is there for a reason, you can still activated in icy conditions... It’s not just for looks

It's for a few reasons: less likely to bind up from dirt and other foreign debris in the action, weight reduction without sacrificing strength, and heat dissapation.

Bought this gun in 270 with the cerakote finish to replace an old Remington 270 that was defective and under recall for firing on its own. Went cheap but am I glad I bought the mossberg. Shots 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with almost anything I feed it. I replaced the synthetic stock with a thumb hole from Boyd’s and mounted a Nikon 2.5-10 scope on the rifle.Went to South Texas January 9, 2019 for a week long hunt, shot an 11 point that scored 146 green, not great but it was a bad year for deer the deer was around 90 yards, spot on shot. I shot 3 aoudad sheep during the week, one at about 150 yards the other 2 at around 350 yards all killed with one shot. I also shot a hog that went close to 200 pounds at about 100 yards, again 1 shot no issues. The rifle shoots great with no issues, looked at ruger, savage, TC arms and Remington glad I went with this one.

A word about accuracy. I use JB Weld to fit the recoil lug to the stock. I grease the recoil lug and receiver, then fill the cavity for the recoil lug. Next morning I pull the action and barrel off the stock then put it back together. I only do the recoil lug.

I bought one of these in .30-06 with the Cera-Kote all-weather finish (which is VERY nice), and a Vortex scope for hunting moose, and I have to say that it’s an excellent rifle. Great accuracy, and that recoil pad works very well. Best trigger of any rifle I’ve ever owned, hands down. The fluting on the bolt and barrel don’t bother me a bit, they look kinda nice. Also I took your advice and got an extra magazine, but I haven’t needed it yet - those mags are a lot tougher than they look. My only complaint about this rifle is the position of the safety - I really wish it was on the tang. I’m not a fan of the Remington 700-style safeties. It works, but it’s not positioned well. Every other gun Mossberg makes has a tang-mounted safety and they couldn’t do it with this one? Just a personal preference I guess. Awesome rifle otherwise.

I bought one in S.S. Marine Cerakote 243 and changed the synthetic stock out for the Laminate stock like on the dangerous game rifle. Topped it with a Nikon P-308 4-12 x 40 BDC. It likes Hornady 100 gr. BTSP (I choose the 308 because the 243 trajectory is closer to the 308 than the 5.56/223) Dime size groups at 100 yards.

I bought one in 270 with the vortex scope last year to hunt elk. I didn't have a lot of cash at the time, and for the price I thought I might as well give it a try. I bought two boxes of ammo for it Hornady SSTs and Federal Premuims with Sierra Game Kings. The Hornadys shot a 1 3/4 inch 3 shot group at 100 yards and the Federals shot just under an inch 3 shot group at 100 yards. I was going to buy an axis, and had already owned an axis and was not impressed. The Patriot is a better rifle in my opinion. I took a 330 class bull with the 270 and it more than did what I needed it to do. Good budget rifle and I just bought one in 6.5 CM for my daughter.

Like any other rifle, you have to find the ammo it likes. I have this in a .308 and in spite of the negative reviews on accuracy....which are easy to find, my three shot groups at a hundred yards actually touch. I find in the .308 it likes the lighter loads. With a good scope, this is everything I can ask for. Yeah, this comment is 5 year after posting.....but I found the vid, so others will too.

Have the predator version in 6.5. Love it. Could not ask for more from a cheap hunting rifle. Half moa for me with 125-130gr bullets. They don't seem to like the heavier stuff, probably cuz the barrel twist isnt as fast as most 6.5cm.

One can bond two magazines together to make a 12 round DBM. I cut the floor plate off at 90 degrees on the top one using a hack saw, I removed the feed lips on the bottom one using a keyhole saw with hack saw blade attached. I then used JB Weld for plastic to bond them together. After curing overnight, I used a flat and round file to clean the interior of the DBM. I stretched the follower spring by pulling apart about 2 inches. The Frankin mag. functions just fine.

I bought a Mossberg Predator Kryptek on a Black Friday sale '23. Upon unpacking I immediately determined a trigger sticking issue. Sent it to the warranty center and they replaced the trigger.
After getting it back( they fire four shots testing it) I cleaned it and ran my bore scope through it.
I've never seen such inferior workmanship. There were dozens of galling pits from the button rifling process and deep chatter marks where gobs of copper built up considering I haven't even shot it yet.
I send a concern with bore pics to Mossberg and got the following reply:
I spoke with the warranty center and the firearm did pass all inspection. I also forwarded the photos to our engineering department for review and they have advised what you are seeing in the barrel is normal and safe to use.
The firearms are test fired prior to shipping and the warranty center in Canada test fired the Patriot with no issues. Have a great day.
So I concluded that the company adheres to a policy that if you pull the trigger and it fires, we're happy.
I've owned hundreds of firearms and was a large dealer before I sold out to a big box chain years ago and never have I heard a less caring company.

      My opinion and experiences....
for hunting it’s a matter of game and terrain. Short or long range. Medium or large game. An 06 or 308 or 270 are all great rounds on N A game. There’s a bajillion loads in between but if you want a starting point those three are great.
On paper, my 243 and and 22/250 are my best out to 500 yds.

Just ran through a box of 145 white box and found something concerning. Every round showed excessive pressure. Looking online I found that some loads from the factory were overly crimped and caused the case mouth not to index properly. The extra headspace caused primer puncture, flattening, cratering and bolt slam on the head. The first two boxes were fine so I didn’t look close until I gathered the brass from the third box. I called mossberg and they were helpful. Asked me to contact Winny first and then call mossberg back with load info etc. winny didn’t answer yet. Anyone else notice this yet?

My local crappy tire was selling this rifle with a vortex scope for the same price as a savage 111 with a weaver scope. I was looking for a 300 win mag for bison hunting. The mossberg felt overly cheap in my hands, very light, the stock felt like toy plastic and the bolt just felt too light to me. I’m also suspicious when a rifle has a 250 dollar scope and is the same price as a rifle with a garbage scope. Needless to say I purchased the savage and put a leupold scope on it. To each their own, I like my heavy caliber rifles to have some heft to them.

I found the stock realy wanting. Weight was good. The magazine and it's mounnnting sleeve are. Poor quality... Pilar bedding helped. Bedding the action requires a lot of accura glass. I glassed in the magazine well to hold the magazine tighter. I am under 1 moa at 100yds. I struggled with it at 1000. I am looking at boyds for a stock replacement. I know the orix chassie system is avalible. But it costs more than the rifle. Boyds just doubles the cost. I am using a primary arms scope that is twice the cost of the rifle. I am hoping the rifle itself will be great with the new stock. 3 years into the plastic and it is warping and contacting the berrel. I have bent drilled and pinned the stock twice to hold it. I belive it is time for replacement.

I have a walnut-stock version in .270. Of all the rifles I've owned over the years, this one is far and away my favorite. I wouldn't change a thing about it, including the magazine. The magazine weighs next to nothing, can't corrode, feed lips don't get bent out of shape, it is easy to load, cartridges feed reliably and smoothly out of it every single time, it drops out in my hands when empty and I unlatch it, it stays latched when it is supposed to, and it doesn't rattle in the rifle, whether loaded, unloaded, or somewhere in between.

You do know a 270 is superior to a 6.5 right?

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  3 роки тому +3

Superior in what way? The 270 delivers a little more speed at the muzzle, sure. A factory 130 grain 6.5 will do 2900 fps, while the 270 will send a 130 grain bullet at 3050 fps. But the 6.5CM is doing that in a short action, in an easier to reload, more inherently accurate case and has more bullet selection. None of that really matters that much for a hunting rifle, but I guess the short action bit helps make for a slightly lighter rifle.
