  • Windows has been steadily decreasing in quality since Windows Vista. As a result, newer releases add buggy and useless features, impose bloated updates, and continue to run glorified spyware on your computer.
With Windows' recent foyer into AI affairs, it is no wonder that people are finally opening their eyes and using Linux, especially considering Linux's increasing viability as a consumer-friendly desktop operating system.

Tbh windows xp and 7 was a great product.
It was thought out, very stable, had lots of powerful administrative tools and it just didn´t constantly change or download random new apps, drivers and bloatware on it´s own.
It may not have been perfect, but i have lots of good memories with win7, not so much with win8(.1).
And ever since win8, it went downhill straight.
Win10 is a disaster but with newer hardware, i adjusted to it and moved over.
But the countless times they broke drivers, software compatibility and even VST plugins etc. by enforced updates, it´s mind blowing.
The whole time, windows 10 was nothing but beta software, like someone constantly tinkering around with your pc.
And now win10 finally came to a finished, stable end and they just dropped win11, meaning to drop win10 in 2025, leaving millions of perfectly good IT hardware behind because of sEcUriTy.
Guess what, even if you have that shit TPM 2.0, too bad your CPU is too old and you´re not supported anyways.
If you install it anyways, well good luck getting the next feature updates installed.
Oh and they just found an UEFI firmware bug in the TPM modules on anything Intel from 7th gen upwards to 12th gen (i think?) which basically makes anything vulnerable, even the new "secure" windows 11 machine you just bought.
Glad my main rig is on the AM4 platform, seems like it doesn´t have this issue.
After win10 i´m finally going full linux.

If Linux wants to get bigger we need a more streamlined experience. A trio of distros, one with all the gaming bells and whistles, one for professionals and a lightweight distro for weaker hardware.
Instead we have a thousand distros all trying to be Windows while doing MOST things Windows does just worse. And the community is so toxic they'd rather act superior than help newcomers with their questions which drives them away.
I'm an indie developer making a game for Dreamcast and Linux users told me I "can't code" because I can't use a terminal; like dude that's not coding, that's just giving an instruction to a terminal the same way pressing buttons on a remote instructs a aTV to perform a function, don't insult me if you want me to make a Linux version of my games too.
Furthermore, a native port isn't possible when distros have issues with compatibility among each other.
My game uses the Dreamcasts Direct X 6 compatibility and works on Windows 98 all the way to Windows 11 so far, while on Linux, Mint is near flawless, while Arch won't even run it past the menu.
These three issues need to be addressed before Linux gets even half as big as Windows, and believe me I WANT Linux to get bigger. Microsoft was far better when they had competition in MacOS/Macintosh years ago.

Eh, I wager the same thing is gonna happen as with old-gen consoles and Dos!
People are gonna make emulators and compatibility layers (which Wine is), to run those programs and play those games!
It really just depends on if the developers want/can support them.
The common situation you hear on the web, is that a game's anti-cheat wont let Linux users play. But that is not because of the AC, but rather the game's developers disabling its compatibility, for reasons we can only speculate on.
There is also the development of web-apps. Photoshop and MS Office can be used from your browser!

That's why it needs the market share in the first place, in order to lead in those ways. Another part of the idea would be that because it's a paid version alot of the money could and should go towards software support so that the OS could keep up with the world around it.

I'm just pissed af cause I might just do the dual booth thing and it's not because of my normal games.
Cause honestly in terms of the games I play everything works as I've research and I don't play fps so I'm pretty good in that front. For me tho the Visual novels I've downloaded so far might not work or honestly will not work on Linux.
And I don't think I can find sources especially the RPGmaker games as well, Idk I'm honestly like getting concerned here too early or overreacting but dang if I can't play then I might stay on windows for a bit (or again dual booth if that's the right term) just to finish the dang collection I've download which will take a long time.
windows just slowly but surely pisses me off each update it just ain't it man. Just literally ain't it at this point I might as well watch a tutorial how to do an VM just to at least access some of my VNs and other stuff like Photoshop but honestly I already got that covered well... almost all creative stuff so either way gonna be a hard transition when I do get my new laptop.

Also I wish you luck on your journey! As far as I know, RPG maker games run completely buttery on Linux. Do you know how to use Wine? If you have a collection on Windows you can import it or copy it over and run it with Wine if you'd like everything to stay on Linux.

@@_Learnix First thank you very much honestly I've already saved your videos when I get my new laptop to test out Linux because of my current one died. Although to be accurate the Ssd died and before that the Hdd so with that in mind I just didn't bother to replace the Ssd again until I get the new laptop and buy a new one just for my brother.
So as for Wine I've heard a lot of problems with it but at that point I'm willing to try till I'll get my laptop cause again Windows 11 just ain't it even with the Debloater tool.
As for other stuff I'm just happy to find a video where they made Photoshop work Idk how my "Alternate copy" of Photoshop will work but if it does then 85% I'm already sold on going Linux full time.
Because I'll assume Blender or Source film maker will just work fine if not then I'll find alternatives, I'm just still on my training stage in terms of creativity stuff like Trying to attempt to make my own Vtuber Model, Drawing in general, heck even in Editing I've been using Kinemaster on the phone so me learning Davinci is a huge advantage for me than people who's used to Adobe Premier. Again the only problem being photoshop because of how I'm so used to that program but anyways because that's covered I'm mostly set.
Again my only gripe is literally The games as I've checked in the protonDB The ones I have on steam like fighting games or my most important one being 100% Orange Juice or other ones like DMC, Uktrakill, and the likes are pretty safe, as for the rhythm games like Muse dash, A dance of fire and Ice, osu, etc. are good to go the only concern I literally have is again Visual Novels.
Some of them having problems from what I've seen on the few I've searched on ProtonDB but has long as I can buy them in the future then it's set for some. But the part that sucked the most is that mine for the most part isn't on steam, it's old games or games that aren't allowed from steam one way or another and so you can see why I'm at a pickle here in my Visual Novel Dilemma.
Some of them are old and I had to work some work arounds to make sure it functions plus as most half of them at least are expensive for now that I'll buy them in the future so you can already see where my predicament is.
Same case with some RPG maker games although in that regard I still haven't tried to find ones I'll play. So yeah I guess dual booting should suffice unless Microsoft does some stupid bs while testing it out then I'll just do an Virtual Machine instead which is I hope in the future you can do an tutorial.
Other than that tho thanks for the profile compliment yours too is very nice as well reminds me of those still pictures of stop motion which has its unique look and as an sidenote I will not change this profile ever this will be it till the end of time lelz.
But yeah sorry for the long walls of text, keep up the great work, do it at your own pace and ofc have fun while doing cause your videos are helpful in this age where Microsoft is doing stupid bs just to make their consumers mad. If they still won't pull their sht together then I'm ready to sacrifice my VNs just to have an OS that's to my taste. So have a nice day and again thank you very much.

If the corporate world wouldn't be completely brainless, Linux would be the default.
Think about it, once companies start adapting it, more software makers would start supporting it, and more people would see that Linux is not the pain that it was to use 20 years ago.

doubt that a lot or companies will switch to linux even with all bullshit Microsoft doing. It requires first, to find well, what distro to use, to make sure that entire company's ecosystem can work on it. second, it requires finding software, especially alternatives (like libreoffic for microsoftoffice), and the entire problem of using alternatives is that they usually dont have needed tools or have completely different UI, which requires re-learning. also never forget about tons of software which simply not exists in any form on linux (like CAD software)

      >70% of games now compatible with Steam Proton, all DEs still get massive updates, and huge milestones like KDE receiving HDR support has come to pass.
Huge strides in the consumer desktop space in the realm of Linux reaching >5% market share, as it is becoming easier and more user-friendly. More popularity means more applications being made for Linux which means more popularity - you get the picture.
Linux is only getting easier, more accessible, more compatible, and more popular.
Windows has stagnated since vista, and every newer version of Windows has failed to innovate. Microsoft is more attentive towards using their paying customers as advertising donkeys, using Windows as that advertising machine, riding the AI bandwagon, and re-releasing the same version of Windows over and over again so those who are none the wiser can spend their hard-earned cash on a sham.
To this day, Windows is completely unacceptable stability-wise. There is no wonder why Linux is the most popular OS for servers, as Linux has never spontaneously combusted the way Windows has.
The Linux trajectory as far as I'm concerned has seen nothing but an upward curve. That curve may be slow, but it has never faltered.

windows is fine, if you know the ins and outs of services, how to disable telemetry, debloating, etc etc. if your a beginner who knows nothing about that, it sucks. and the people who dont know anything about OS' arent even going to know what linux is in the first place.

@@nadtz yeah the worst thing with Windows 8 was just that the UI was bad, but most people at the time just stuck with Windows XP, Vista, and 7. You didn't have to switch to it, so people just laughed at Windows 8 and went about their day still using the previous versions. Now it's not so funny for those that want to stay with Windows 10, because support ends next year and Windows 11 will be the only supported version.

Well the thing is... I like to have access to the old interface of windows. At least you can access the settings (something windows try to hides nowdays) but in Linux in the other hand it is a nightmare to access specific setting because there is no interface written for it.
Change HDMI black levels? Nope. Change mouse wheel scrolling lines? Nope. Trying to print in brochure mode.... Boomaga drivers got depreciated so nope again. yea windows is a spyware especially the family version but Linux interface is just not here.

    • @_Learnix

Forgive me, I'm a little confused. Aren't HDMI black levels a setting configured inside your monitor or your television?
And mouse wheel scrolling lines can be configured. I'll say that its not up to the same standard as Windows, but its there and can be worked with.
Also could you not use deprecated drivers and stay on them if you have a specialized purpose that you're using them for?

    • @Tailslol
      @Tailslol 2 місяці тому +1

@@_Learnix not really it is the device that send the signal that use limited or full RGB range. Changing the black level of the HDMI. The screen and device need to match for optimal image.
For the mouse...well i tested in lxde and gnome and none of them had settings. I saw something about it in Ubuntu but it was really hell to change a simple setting.
For the depreciated driver it was boomaga printer to print brochure and booklet. The drivers are depreciated and are no more working on cups. For my Linux compatible Canon printer.

I think, the only real difference now is that more and more of the tech community have finally had enough of the Microsoft BS and are now desperate enough to try Linux or anything that is not Windows. It used to be that many in the tech community would rage and complain about Microsoft's latest problem, but they'd keep using Windows. Now that Linux has very good compatibility with games, (which was a hold out for a lot of people) and now that many applications are now web based instead of needing to install something, the tech community know that the OS matters a lot less to get tasks done.
Sure there are still hold outs with some hardware/software, but more alternatives exist now and many tasks that used to be very difficult to do on Linux are now easier than ever to get done. I think the Windows Bubble is finally starting to deflate for the tech community as a whole now. Microsoft has finally succeeded in making the vast majority of them genuine hate them. Developers that used to code on Windows now want to write code on Linux, and when you lose the developers the applications will slowly move too. After the applications finish moving to alternatives, get ported, get working in WINE, etc., it won't be long before more commercial companies like Valve start making more Linux products targeting consumers directly.
We're still transitioning, but I have a feeling that by 2030, things are going to look much more different. This isn't a case of "just keep Windows around" or "I need Windows to do XYZ" anymore. Things are changing now because Microsoft has finally angered too many people.
