    Am sitting here staring at my very sad, weeping fig, and your advice has just inspired me to rescue this beautiful house plant. Thanks.

      ME 2!!! But tragically my furnance went dead and they couldnt get a new one for almost a week! We tried using electric heaters to keep our downstairs tolerable but it was very cold, maybe went down to high 20's here in northeast. My FORTY YEAR FICUS lost its leaves and then the rest turned brown and crispy. We always brought it out in spring and in for the winter. SAD.

      @@FOXYPEACH2 When I prune my fig tree - I cut all the branches off so it looks like stick. If your plant froze - it is toast!!!! In hindsight - I would have cut the entire tree back and brought it upstairs. I do that same thing with my rubber tree plant as well. The rubber tree plant was first bought in 1972 and still going strong. Just cut it back to a stick at the end of March and new shoots are about to open. Sorry to hear about the death of your fig. In the early 1990's, 1/4 of the fig tree started dropping leaves and they were green leaves at that. I researched it and found it was badly pot bound and could have lost the entire tree. I changed the pot within a week. I was lucky. Would you believe I haven't repotted since then? I even saved some cut branches in the mid 1980's and have a smart fig tree from those clipping. I large fig tree is enough so I keep the other fig tree much smaller and when it gets too large - again I will prune the entire fig tree down to a stick. Fig Trees grow so quickly.

      Yes. If you're super careful they can be turned into a bonsai.

    Mine was a nearly bare tangle of sticks in a pot by the road. Planted in the ground. Put some grass clipping and leaves as compost.. Now it's 20 feet tall shading the eastern facing side of my house. Will it produce edible fruit? That is my question..

    • @Eastbaypisces
      @Eastbaypisces 6 років тому

      how long did it take to get that tall? I just put mine in the ground and its like the same thing about 4" (hardly anything)., was that too soon?

    How do you get them so full? I have mine since three years and it dropped it's leaves and never really grew back. I tried everything, I guess it can never be as full as when it's outside

      He has more than one in that plant. Mine once almost died (dropped almost all leaves) and I repotted it in the middle of winter and within 3 days baby leaves everywhere. Idk what it is with him, grows like crazy during the winter, almost nothing during the summer.

      They can be tricky ficcus. Maybe winter time was optimal temperature for him jen. Ficcus don't like to much direct sun or to hot or to cold. They also dont like to be moved around a lot so try and keep him in one place. If you want to move put him in new home for a few hours a day for a few weeks giving him chance to get use to the new home. Repot every few years and fertalise in the spring through to late summer. And keep him away from drafts.
      One of my fuccus lives in a west facing window with morning sun only. The other east facing. They are mixed with one part parilite to 5 parts house plant potting mix with lots of holes for good drainige. I deep water mine once the top 1/4 of soil is dry (use your finger to cheek) and don't for get to mist plant every few days. They will drop leaves in low humidity. Good luck and happy growing guys 😁
