    Thank you! I never though I'd find a plant video so entertaining and useful. I just got a ficus (my first plant ever) and is losing leaves faster than my bro lost his hair at 26. Now I know why (I was a bit rough to her delicate roots). I hope the leaves come back!

    This is the first plant I ever got and I never knew it needed this specific care. I think it's the easiest and rather boring plant I have.. I water it once a week and it doesn't get that much direct light but it is in a light spot. I mean , it's probably not thriving and living it's best life but it's just stable and doing fine. I really liked the video, might put it in a different spot for some better light to see how it does!

    I don´t know why but when I researched ficus tree on internet they always said that fikus hates direct sunglight and should be far away from a window because of the wind but now I understand why my first one died. I was also told it´s "really hard to kill plant" but it died so fast. I was doing everything wrong. I was so traumatized that I didn´t want to get one for a long time lol. I am gonna try this from now because despite being difficult they´re one of the most beautiful houseplants. Thank you!

    Watering is the issue with your ficus that has lost almost all it's leaves. I assume it is dead now? In any case, the leaves drooping on this tree and on any plant for that matter is an indication of lack of water. Lack of water amusingly is most often caused by overwatering. The soil was too wet for too long. The roots like air in the root zone, not compacted soil that is more or less water-logged. Get a thin wooden dowel and sharpen the end with a pencil sharpener. Dip it in the root zone about three quarters to the bottom and leave it in for a bit; then pull it out and see if any soil is sticking to it and if the dowel looks wet; if it is, don't water. When you will eventually water, the pot will feel a lot lighter and that is a great way to judge when to water: just lift the pot and see if it is light. The dowel method should be more accurate though. If you are willing to experiment with soil you can repot it and get a media that would make it so even if you drenched it all the time, the tree would still not be overwatered. Keeping the roots pot-bound is completely irrelevant to the health of the tree; eventually the tree suffers from it even, but that would take at least five years or so from a repot with room in the pot. These trees are meant to last decades of more.
    Bonsai soil is amazing for them but then you actually have to water at least every week, twice a week in the summer. That soil is also a bit pricey. There are alternatives but it is always about being large particles that do NOT keep a lot of water. When your soil is right, you can water whenever you want without fear of overwatering and even experiment with liquid fertilizer to boost the tree. If you are stuck with bad soul. Just wait a while in between waterings. My Peace Lily is huge and lush now. It is I think the only one that I haven't yet put in reasonable soil. The soil is really bad. I lift the pot to tell when to water and it usually needs it every month. I take it to the shower and let it rain on it for five minutes, Lukewarm water. That saturates the pot with water and also washes the soil from bad gases that roots emit, as well as minerals deposited from water itself, and finally remains of fertilizer that needs to be et be allowed to accumulate for too long in the pot, and also it sucks in fresh air into the root zone. I fertilizer it sometimes too. This plant has been blowing up in 2019 and flowered too. It loves light.

    This is so helpful 😊 I bought a baby one and I left it far too long to water it and it dropped 70%of its leaves 😩 so I watered it and left it too long yet again! So it's got like 7 green leaves left. I watered it and put it on my south facing window sill - will this be good for it, or should I just cut it back really hard to start again? 😊🌱 Thanks

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому

      Oh no! I’m sorry that’s the worst situation ever lol I’ve been there! I wouldn’t cut back any branches until the spring when it’s most likely to push out new growth. Just keep it evenly watered, in bright light and be very patient for now!
      In the spring (April-May), you can trim back the branches and maybe even put it outside in some mild direct sun to inspire new growth
      Good luck, let me know how it goes and hope this helps!! 😊🌈

    When I had to repot my bosses plant I had to cut off a major root because it didn't like the pot I put it in because it sat in water too long and it caused the root to rot. I didn't know much about a ficus then. It hasn't dropped any leaves yet since repotting it. Used a whole different medium. But monitoring it. So I definitely had to disturb the roots a whole lot realized aswel the nursery potted it in coir which was drowning the roots because the water couldn't drain out so sat in wet coir so I had to rinse the roots and pick out the coir. When I first potted it I didn't remove old soil or look much just added a bit of soil to the new pot so I don't disturb roots. My boss let the coir dry so once that happens its a huge problem... As the water takes longer to absorb into the coir as once it dries it has almost like a barrier and water just lays in there until it absorbs it which takes longer. Bad for plant. Had to take all of it out as it was just a hot mess and prevented more roots from forming. So I thought this plant would as definitely a goner. So I thought I really killed it because I had to get it out and replace all the soil do surgery a whole lot of it.. use fungicide basically everything you want to avoid. Repot it. And hope for the best but it still has all his leaves... It's been over a week. And returning it on Monday as it seems to of appreciated the change. It's nerve wrecking. Just don't want to return it and it drops all its leaves and isn't able to recover. There is a chance it may show the stress in a week because if I didn't cut that soft rotted root it would of spread into the plant itself and just killed It.

    sounds like alot of husbandry work just to keep it alive...inside, how do they do outside? im interested in getting one of these, but are they able to be just survive outside? or is a window mandatory?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  2 роки тому

      They certainly can survive outside in a pot! They are trees after all 😊 Depends on what zone you live in, I live in a sunny/warm climate where it could live year-round outside. If you have cold winters, you will have to bring it inside and let it live near a warm window in a spot that doesn't get drafty.

    Hello, I live in Brazil here or Climate is tropical. I have a ficus that this room is not an indoor environment near the window where it catches sunlight but not direct sunlight. and it is falling like leaves and yellowing. What precautions should I take with watering, pruning, etc.?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому

      Hello! I would think Brazil is a great place for Ficus to thrive 😊 that sounds like the perfect amount of light for it - it’s normal for some leaves at the bottom to yellow and fall off, sometimes that’s just seasonal shedding. But if you have the plant in any direct drafts or in front of fans, they don’t like the change in air flow so move them away from that. With water, you don’t want to wait until they completely dry out or they will drop A LOT of leaves. Let me know if this helps!! Good luck ! 👍

    I fear that I've overwatered my feeping fig. It sits in a large glass pot with hydrogen grains on the bottom. I felt that I hadn't given it water in a while but now the inside of the pot seems very moist. How long does it take before the health of the weeping fig declines heavily due to overwatering? Can I save it by not watering it and keeping it in indirect to direct sunlight?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому

      Hello! I agree with Jakeina's comment as well! Try letting it dry out, withhold water for a while and only watering when it's dry! If you stop watering I think it'll bounce back, root rot takes a while to kick in

    • @quintenrademakers5981
      @quintenrademakers5981 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the responses. I poked some holes in the dirt with a straw to let some oxygen in and I believe that did the trick! I read somewhere on the internet that water will block oxygen from coming in and then the water will not be taken in by the roots of the plant so that's why I tried this out.

    I bought the Ficus Benjamina plant and after 2-3 days it started dropping leaves and they were also turning yellow, we thought it was because the soil was dry (which it was) and watered it. After a week it was still dropping leaves so I checked the soil and it was very hard but wet at the bottom. I decided to submerge it in water for an hour, however the leaves are still dropping. It gets a decent amount of sunlight (direct and indirect). Could you give me any advice?

      Ohhh it might need to be repotted in fresh soil! Sounds like it might be compacted and it’s having a hard time absorbing the water? I try to soak mine from the bottom and it should typically soak through all the way to the top if you leave it submerged for 30 minutes

    My plant is outside under the porch facing north... its doing great but I'm going to bring it in thinking of placing it south facing window

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  3 роки тому

      It might be fine living outdoors in a less intense exposure! Indoor and outdoor light is very different, outdoor light has no barrier whatsoever so the ficus might be getting sufficient light out there- I would keep it outside especially if it’s doing well :)

    Is it still a "draft" or bad for the plant if you have it in same room as fan going ?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  3 роки тому +1

      As long as the fan isn’t pointing directly at the plant the whole time that should be ok! Air circulation is actually better for them 😊

    New subscriber (what's up). Quick question: do you use any fertilizer for your ficuses (ficus'...fici...yes, I'm very fun at parties, why do you ask?)

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 роки тому +1

      hello and welcome! Thank you for subbing! ⭐️ I am also a blast at parties in this same way, grammar questions are always the best ice breaker - I'm feeling Ficuses?! maybe not ?!😂 But YES I only use fertilizer in the summer months when these guys tend to put on more growth! I've been using Fish Fertilizer on my plants, it smells terrrrrible, but it works great!

    Most of your advice is decent. But you just have to leave them in hard sun and in a dish full of water at the bottom. Then treat them like rats in the winter.
