Props to Ben for making sure the review footage didn't go past chapter 1.
David Alexander He does spoil the first murder victim though.
As well as a certain fact (Don't click "See More" if you haven't put it together)

They also spoil the fact that you take over as Shuichi!
Where?
and he spoils the twist by showing shuichi's hangmans gambit.
Well, of course if you've played the game then you can interpret it as a spoiler. Without context though, you don't really have what you need to deduce that as a spoiler. These comments are far more explicit than the review is.
People have become such die-hard fanatics about the killing game concept that they completely miss the point of the whole game and the ending. Loved this way more than the others, much more belieavable and striking ideas
BlackFrost same, I loved the ending
Ya people don't like this ending because it not the "player" wanted, but one that the player in the killing game wanted. A way to end the killing game in THEIR way. This I like it.
Hey you! Scroll back up if you haven't played the game yet! Spoilers will be everywhere!
Literally zero spoilers.
For now, but this is for the future. At least to remind peeps to be cautious that anything good be lurking in the comments at any time.
Thanks I actually saw a few but I have no idea what this game really is so I didn't comprehend what the names meant and so forth
Thank you, Navi
You guys have just made my day so much better!! Never change!!!
2nd is still my favorite, but V3 was still awesome
Hell yea, the review I've been waiting for, awesome job eza
Great review guys!!! This series is awesome and I really hope it continues for a long time...
This review is otherwise known as "How many time we can get Brandon to say Danganronpa"
Such an awesome game. I love Danganronpa. The ending of V3 certainly changed how I view the world of Danganronpa. But I enjoyed it and was pretty surprised where it went.
I hope they eventually make more games while continuing on changing and evolving the rules of its' world. Given the ending of this game though, they could easily make more entries in the franchise.
Like someone else in the comments said; Maki is best girl.
Spoilers kinda
doesn't the fact that you want another danganronpa game go against the message of the ending and kinda makes you a bad guy. also Miu best girl
Miu is indeed best girl, V3 has killed the series. I want to see something new from SC.
Love this series so much. Glad it's been getting good reviews. Need to finish this game...got distracted with South Park and Mario the last week or two.
Wow. I was not expecting them to review this. This game is without a doubt my favorite game of this year.
Do I need to play 1 and 2 before this? I've always wanted to jump in, but I'm not sure if I should go all the way or just dive into 3.
start with 1
play 1,2, (UDG optional) and watch the DR3 anime
I mean you definitely could, but they'll be mentioning the previous games a lot...
It's not 3, it's V3. 3 is the anime which is a a sequel/prequel to Danganronpa 1 and 2.
Probably the most fair and rational assessment of the game I've come across. It is commendable that the game takes a lot of risks in challenging player expectations, and many people reject this very notion in regards to the ending, which is exactly what I think was intended.
Better late the never :). Still an awesome review. Are you guys plannig to Review Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
Please watch out for spoilers. Had something huge spoilt for me. Good thing it was near the start. On Chapter 4 now and I cannot wait for the crazy ending I keep hearing about
Amazing game. Loved every minute of it!
Good game and great review
Just finished it and came straight to eza to check their review score. This game is a serious rollercoaster. Wish there were more allies who played it so they could do a spoilermode
best reviews on net
ultra despair girls was my goty 2015
Can I play this and still enjoy it if I haven't played any other Danganropa?
Technically yes but I suggest getting the previous titles since they just got rereleased in a bundle and at a budget price and this game does tell you the ending to the other games
Absolutely not the ending and many aspects of the game would be lost on you.
at the very least play danganronpa 2 cuz its like the best game of all time.
I Recommend you playing first two games, because of amazing story and plot...and Danganronpa 2 and it's Animes were highlight of the series for many people
+HenryCurble Thanks I'll pick up the bundle then and make a start on that!
Buy 1+2 reloaded (UDG is optional imo) and watch the DR3 anime. V3 is not DR3.
a spoiler mode would be really cool but I know your the only one that's going to play this game
Great game
REAAAL good game.
Hope you guys will do a spoilerepisode about this game. This game's ending begs for a good philosophical conversation.
Surely any hunger games or battle royale discussion would suffice?
Technically yes, but this hit me way harder. Tho i never really watched battle royale. Hunger games however didnt even come close to making me feel guilty.
Battle Royale is probably the original killing game medium and Kodaka has cited it numerous times as inspirition for Danganronpa. I highly recommend them (manga and live action movies are both great).
I can not get into this series for the life of me. One of my roommates likes this series, and good for her, but I just don't see the appeal.
ReiAyanami8 Play Trigger Happy Havoc for at least 7 hours. If the game is not making you feel anything then you can drop it freely.
Good review, but it feels like maybe this could have been a Don't Skip? Are we still doing those?
Blindly Fumblin I’m personally glad we decided on a review. It’s nice to put a score on a game that deserves it if we can. Don’t Skips are still happening but we’re in review season and as you can probably tell on this channel, we’ve got a lot on our plate.
Thanks for the reply Ben - I definitely respect your decision to review/not skip games as you see fit. I asked only because I'm aware of how busy the season is, so wondered whether some shorter review formats might be needed for smaller titles.
Big fan of the series, I'm holding out on this one hoping for a release for Nintendo Switch. The console would be perfect for it.
That would never happen.
Nothing about the extra modes talent agency and monokumas dungeon? I thought they were excellent games within a game and added a lot of value to the package.
That's like saying dangan island was just as good as the main game in 2. It's just not true.
Well it's not since I didn't say they were as good as the main game.
They're both irrelevant and don't add value. The same goes for school mode and dangan island in 1 & 2.
Dangan... ronpa...?
Maki best girl
No Miu is!
That's a strange way of spelling Miu
ff8masterc I don’t know what your talking about ;)
The reply was aimed at Echo, you just also happen to be a man of culture.
ff8masterc lol I’m glad to see that Miu is so popular to be honest I thought a lot of people wouldn’t like her because she’s very vulgar.
The Twist in Chapter 1 was great at the time but when everything is revealed at the end it kinda ruined the game for me. It wasn't so much the meta elements as it was what was revealed that basically made the twist in Chapter 1 complete bullshit and I ended up hating the game for what it ended up doing to such an interesting character. Trying to be very vague as to avoid spoilers but anyone who played the game likely knows what I'm referring to.
SPOILERS
Fridging someone is never a good plot device.
Yep agreed, its a damn shame thats ultimately what the twist boils down to.
Man, I wanted to like this game, but I think I hate this game more than anything else I've ever played. I don't even think its a bad game, but rather it does gives up its ability to coherently tell a story in order to get shocks. It felt so cheap that I just couldn't get invested in the story that I feel I otherwise would have enjoyed. The reason I hate this game is because it represents a turning point in a series that I previously loved. I know this terrible storytelling is going to continue into any future installment, effectively killing the franchise for me. I'll go into a little more detail while trying not to spoil anything, but if you're particularly sensitive to spoilers don't read any further.
There are a few occasions where the player character sees things and does things, very important things, that the narrative doesn't tell you until a later. The player is supposed to be controlling this character and even seeing their thoughts, yet these important acts are kept from them. Its only done to shock and I firmly believe that the game would have been much more interesting if they hadn't done this. Its cheap, it doesn't make sense, and it breaks the immersion.
There is also at least one occasion where the game directly lies to the player. Information is given to the player that their character has no way of knowing, but this information is later revealed to be false. Why does the game present this information to the player? Its there just to lead the player on so they can shock them with a reveal. When a character lies to another character, it causes you to distrust that character in the future. This is a good thing. It helps the player to engage with the world by making them question every aspect of it. When the narrative itself lies the whole world just falls apart. If you can't even trust the narrative to stay consistent, how can you stay invested in a story?
I have other issues with the game, but they've already been brought up elsewhere. The biggest sin this game committed is taking an interesting world that I wanted to invest myself in and making me incapable of caring about what happened in it.
I just want to say that Korekiyo is pure.
the ending was really disappointing to me. Enjoyed this game a ton other than that
I Agree with you,Because the edning ruined most of the experience for me
the ending is fucking brilliant
that's the point of the ending
To the ones saying that the ending ruined the franchise. You know that in canon, v3 does play in another universe? It's literally simply adding another layer of fiction and since the ending was open for yourself to decide, you could literally say everything in it was a lie by tsumugi and thus the World established in the other two games stays the same. Or you believe it's true what she said and thus danganronpa 1 and 2 have added another layer of fiction. And this are just the obvious Points; If you go into detail you could discuss in what way tsumugis cospox work, why she said her copycat Plan was perfect because she failed as well etc.
I think the ending is genius because compared to the others it may not contribute to the rest f the World building directly but rather lets the player decide in what truth or lie to belief. Left with this uneasy feeling, not sure what is right, just like the characters at the end. A bridge between fiction and reality one might say.
That Divinity: Original Sins 2 review is getting pushed back so far even though its GOTY material ;_;
Hollow Knight is GOTY material and it never got a review (although the Don't Skip was great)
It’s still being worked on. I just played more yesterday. Still loving it.
After getting two great milquetoasts I was hoping for something new and fresh. But it was more milquetoast.
The first milquetoast was very bland, the second one is amazing.
Oh boy, I'm glad I used the japanese voices.
the English! voice for are 3 games is excellent
Your loss, the english voice acting was absolutely fantastic, with two exceptions.
Keep your socks on. I wasn't implying anything about the review, just that monokuma's voice clip was awful.
Lyrical Lolibutt anime snobs are worse then cancer
DC Comics are the best they are literally cancer.
lol i play with japanese voices on and hearing the english voice of monkuma immediately told me why. xD
I usually love the writing on your reviews, but I gotta say that was pretty overwrought. I don't know anything about this series, but I still don't after watching this review. Everyone in the comments has played it already, so they're just here to have their views confirmed. I want to know if it's a good game, and all I really know is that you like 5 dollar words. I realize you're also avoiding twists, but I think you've handled spoiler heavy game reviews better in the past.
If you feel like the class trials are "long and drawn out" and "bloated", then maybe you don't enjoy these kinds of games as much as you think. The class trials are easily the best parts of the game.
when they argue over something for 20 minutes which could've just immediately been deduced from just a single piece of evidence makes it feel bloated
I enjoy them as much as I think. A different opinion doesn't equal a lack of enthusiasm.
Savage haha.
You certainly come across that way when you make those kinds of comments in your review.
But how are you supposed to get to that point without the characters discussing what happened or give context to the player. I'm loving the game and I like the game rationalizes everything in the trials and nothing feels rushed.
Series is pretty much done. Ending was way too meta. Kodaka wanted to leave DR after V3, which is fine, but he didn't have to write it into the ground with the last chapter.
W E W, and here I thought IGN had the worst reviews.
hardly something i will consider A game. More like a visual novel, which i almost completly hate......almost.
>playing english dub
🤢
One of the most horrible character design i ever see .... (after the Attack on Titan fo course...)
