Few games deserve the 5 star rank, Persona 5 is absolutely one of them!
and zelda wansn't?
I thought the same heh, Damiani's critisisms of Zelda were correct tbh. Im sure Ben could have found somthing to criticise in the game if he tried, but everyones opinions are diffrent I guess.
I havent played persona 5 yet and I love zelda BUT it also has a few minor problems which makes it a 4.5 out of 5 for me as well
suplextrain also Zelda has stupid weapon durability
Thats a key mechanism of the game. You get so many weapons that breaking weapons is not really a problem. Zelda battle system wants you to use and throw the weapons in a fight

178 hours! Completed! This game has ruined my backlog for me. I think I need to take a break for a while. In the top 3 of my favorite games of all time now 🤗!
About 30 hours in. This game is incredible.
and the best part is it just keeps getting better the farther you go.
ChosenOneDan It had a slight bump in the fifth palace though (kinda not as good as the others)
yea I can see what you mean I still enjoyed some of the things you had to do to progress through the stages. I loved that final boss fight in that palace.
Same here, the game is so good that i don't even feel like i've been playing for this long
92 hours in, still incredible. I can't stop playing o-o
About 75 hours in and I'm only halfway through the game.
This game is literally a ride and I never want it to stop. Beyond words.
It's still April but 2017 will go down as the best gaming year in my life. Zelda BotW, Nier Automata and Persona 5 went straight to my heart. Japanese developers are killing it!
Fredrik Karlsson don't forget HZD
Maxwell Comora HZD? oh you mean HZY, Horizon Zero Yawn
Mog Gles the salt is strong with you.
what would i be salty about? hzd was forgotten and left in the dust once zelda was released. people quickly realized how generic and cookie-cutter horizon was compared to zelda and is now the new gold standard for open worlds. and now we have persona 5. it seems you are the salty one that got triggered when my comment was not directed at you.
Horizon Zero Fun
I don't like anime or JRPGS and I fucking love this game. Give it a shot people!
we need more people like this guy
The turn based combat is what many people dislike.
sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Rafael Alejandro Instablaster =)
@@tonygicz8 I’m a souls veteran so combat is the bread and butter in games for me yet now I am addicted to persona 5 and it’s masterfully crafted combat system
Sorry Ben I can't watch this review Morgana is telling me to go to sleep
Shut up Morgana. I'm a fully grown teenage high school student. I do what I want!
That meme is pretty annoying. But I suppose that is my problem.
Hate that cat!! Every time I go have fun, hey guess what you got to goto bed and be late with your dvd rental.
that is why that teacher is the best choice
40 hours in and it's by far one of the best JRPGs released .... ever. After so many classic jrpg-series (like Tales) stagnate with every entry, delivering clicheed plots and boring characters, dated visuals and mandatory tasks, it's really refreshing to see a reminder what JRPGs used to be all about: Creative ideas and interesting storylines you can't predict 5 minutes in.
Really? Cause I called the traitor at 5 min in.
@@ff8masterc*SPOILERS* same but the twist is that the phantom thieves knew all along
This is the best RPG to come out since the original Xenoblade. Absolutely amazing.
Eew.
OmegaMetroid93 nice samus
Thank you. :)
My friend made it for me.
i have xenoblade on ps3, think it will hold up in 2017? I need something to play until i get persona 5
Xenoblade is a Nintendo game, so no it wont hold up on you ps3 :)
i came into Persona 5 with my expectations impossibly high, yet as i fought the final boss tears were running down my face, not because it was sad, but because of how incredible the boss and his music were, because of everything that led up to it and because of how persona 5 went through my every expectations with such force and velocity as if mocking them for being so low and finaly for the 6 years that i have been waiting for this game, it is easely my favorite game of all time with an impossibly large power gap between it and any other game
Dude you must have been a wreck when fighting Nyx at the end of P3 then.
Your Persona 3 review actually got me to buy P3 a decade ago. Been waiting for this one. =p
The hours fly by when playing this 100+ hour game, a score well deserved.
Easy Allies, the way you folks put together your video reviews is downright masterful. No other publication can touch the passion for games, eye for detail and respect for the experience of each gaming world like your small team does. Thank you for doing what you do!
They have plenty of experience previously being GT and all
I'm glad Ben mentioned "Beneath the Mask" by name. Such a standout song. The soundtrack enhances this game so much, and I'm always thankful to Shoji Meguro for doing what he does.
Its crazy, i thought Breath of The Wild or Horizon would be my GOTY but now its definitely Persona 5. This has been the game that i have been most intrigued to because its my first persona game and i regret not playing the others.
Kameron Scott You do realize we still have FE Echos, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey and anything we don't know about at E3 we aren't even half way done with 2017!
Demi-Fiend of Time and yet none of those games turned out as good as persona 5. Absolute best game of 2017 and this generation.
Skip Persona 4 and go for Persona 3 instead, the story and plot twist is a lot better and nothing short of masterpiece.
I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT, BEN! First 5* from Ben, what better game to pick
Bought the game 3 days ago, never left the house since then.
This review was masterful! Well done Ben, best EZA review so far, extremely informative and even though your passion for the series is obvious you manage to keep it very balanced.
Gramsci Well said! 👌🏽
Ben's reviews are excellent!

Eleven hours in and this game feels real. Immersive!!
you really do want to hate on p5 huh? I see you everywhere in the comments lol give it a rest.
The game needs taking down a peg, don't be so triggered.
k
Finished the game on hard after 130 hours, amazing experience. Now going for a NG+ run on Merciless difficulty with some DLC personas and costumes just because I feel that Atlus deserves the extra price for the dlc just because they did such a great job! hell this game is great and I'm totally addicted ! :)
The editing for these reviews... insane.
In every video review you guys have done, the editing that takes place right before the final verdict is incredible. We love you Easy Allies 💜
I always come back to this well written review to remind me how much I enjoyed this gem. 🃏
I've been waiting for this!
2021 and still one of the best games l've ever played
And now 2023 and it's great 👍
P5 is easily going to be my GOTY. It improves on so many things and does so many things better than any Jrpg I have ever played. There are so much little details that I love too. Whether it's the loading screen changing during a certain event, a hilarious drawing on the school chalkboard after something in the story, or finding your stalker in the school hallways. It really is a amazing game and you can tell the developers put their heart and soul into making it.
Paladin Joe I doubt you even beat the game. I sense ur one of those guys that announce GOTY right after the first dungeon....
akou12 why you doubt him?
The only thing so far that annoyed me was them taking control away for the entire week leading up to starting Futaba's arc.
Antiform I get your point, but I understand why they did it too
I'm just really sick of this fuckin' cat telling me "Let's not do that today" BITCH I STAY UP TIL 2 AM ON THE REGULAR I DONT NEED THIS
Great review! I had just finished my first playthrough Thursday morning at 72 hours 13 minutes played. I can't wait to start a second playthrough and get the platinum. I really really enjoyed my time with this game and I cannot wait for Persona 6 in 2024.
Easiest 10/10 out my life
It's easy to take you guys for granted, but if you watch every major reviewers review of Persona 5 along side this one, it's clear that Easy Allies has the greatest editing. You guys making video reviews into an artform of their own :)
Very well written, Ben! Happy I finally got to see this review. Waited a long time to watch it!
The Japanese Renaissance continues. Persona 5 is one of the very best games I've played in recent memory. For now, it's sitting atop my list of GOTY heavyweights with Zelda and Nier: Automata.
It's only April and we already have a handful of instant classics. This is far and away the best first quarter I can recall and I'm can't wait to see what more this year has to offer.
Gametrailers’ review texts have always been very well written and sophisticated. It’s good to see they did not drop the ball now that they’re under a new flag. Best review team on UA-cam, hands down.
Francisco Leite same guy too (voice)
It's funny. After I was done with Person 4, I kept saying how much I would love it to see people with more than anxieties to overcome. Don't get me wrong, those anxieties are tough and overcoming them difficult, but afterwards I was just struck with the thought of "What would happen if true tragedy struck these characters? How would that affect the Shadow World?" Persona 5 heard my friggen thoughts! This game is SO GOOD.
Great review, Ben. I'm glad you took the time you needed with it.
I was rewatching old GT reviews because nostalgia. Then I was told that the team is still alive and kicking in The Easy Allies. And here I am! (^___^)
Amazingly well written review Ben. I'm glad you followed that loading screen's advice for this one, that intro paragraph was excellent.
Also one of the best edits I've seen Brandon make!
I am loving this game. And Ben my god - I love the Easy Allies reviews - always so in depth on every aspect and truly giving me all the info I need to make my purchase decision. I've never been let down by any of your reviews. Been with you guys since you were GameTrailers. Best video reviews on the Internet !!!!
we know BoTW will win GOTY. However both Nier: Automata and Persona 5 need to be on the nomination lists from every outlet, they're both outstanding games
tolucafreak speak only for yourself because that is very ignorant to say on behalf of everyone
tolucafreak Breath of the Wild is my favorite so far but man in a world where people didn't have to choose just 1 game, I would give it to Persona 5/Breath of the Wild in a tie and maybe add Red Dead 2 if it makes it this year.
DXAdamJensen how is it ignorant? we all know the BoTW will win it from most big outlets. I personally think it should be a 3 way tie between the three but that won't happen
Geo Can I wish it could be a 3 way tie because these two games are just fantastic. haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long time
Wholeheartedly disagree on BOTW winning from most big outlets. Especially when Super Mario Odyssey and Red Dead are still out there. Plus anyone who has done even a little research knows that Nintendo got shafted in 2014 when they easily had 4 of the 5 best games of that year simply because Nintendo was cool to disregard that year.
this is the most fun I've had with an RPG since forever!!!!!
Currently nearing the end of my first P5 play-through and decided to listen to this again since it was mentioned on last week's podcast. Well done Ben!
Props for not using the word 'stylish'!
55 hours of pure awesomeness so far... this game just oozes style! Thank you Allies and especially Ben for bringing the Persona series to my attention!
Holy crap I just came across this review by chance and that narrator's voice....this is the same dude who narrated the Final Fantasy retrospective and a bunch of other videos for GameTrailers right!?!? Your voice is awesome! Thanks for doing what you did on those videos, good memories.
Easy Allies Gotcha. I’m glad I was able to rediscover y’all again; will be sure to keep my eye out for future content!
Great review Ben! I'm absolutely loving this game too. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on Frame Trap!
It's not often when I play a single player game over and over. I love this game. Pumped 110 hours into it so far.
Nice, I always look forward to your reviews Ben and I've been anxiously awaiting this one in particular. Between this, Nioh and Nier I honestly feel like you're putting some of, if not the best reviews in the entire industry right now and they're always a treat to watch and ultimately well worth the wait... but the wait is a bit longer than I'd consider ideal (though entirely understandable when we're talking about such massive and lengthy games). I hope when you're eventually able to hit the studio goal though, that you can go full time and start getting out your reviews a bit closer to launch to help them get the full attention that they truly deserve.
Also, I know I'm getting a bit long winded here, but I wanted to thank you personally for hyping up this game because, while I knew it would be great for what it is, honestly I haven't enjoyed a turn-based JRPG in quite some time and I was starting to feel like I may just be over the genre, and with how crazy this Q1 has been I easily could have ended up passing on this one, or at least waiting until I'd gotten through more of my backlog but it was largely because of your enthusiasm that I decided to take the plunge and jump into this one day 1, and 40+ hours in I couldn't be happier for it.
Love and Respect.
This game is still my 2017 GOTY I put 135 hours on the first play through. Great game
Just finished my first playthrough at 115 hours. What a ride! Rarely was I bored or frustrated. There really is so much to do and see. A great gaming achievement regardless of the genre it belongs to. Style for dayyyyssss
A lot of big words that add up to say "I really like this game". Great review Ben
Despite being made for the ps3 p5’s style alone makes it something that can and should be enjoyed for decades
I've never been more certain of a game deserving a perfect score. Persona 5 could very well be the best game I've ever played.
You need to play more games.
First SMT or Persona game I've ever played, and I'm kicking myself for it. This has been one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. My wife and I are so engrossed in it that we rush through life's responsibilities to stretch how long we can play it for the day. It's definitely made for some rough mornings due to going to sleep too late. Still only about half way (Start of Sept), and I can't wait to see what comes next.
Been waiting for this! I knew Ben would do this justice. He clearly loves this series as much as I do.
Ben's enthusiasm for the Persona series got me interested in Persona 5 and I couldn't be happier with what I ended up getting from it. So thank you, Ben! I can't wait to hear what Brandon and Kyle have to say about this game, who from my understanding are also new to the series.
Can’t wait to pick this up after I play Persona 3 & 4!
Fantastic game and amazing review!!! You guys nailed it!!!
The end sounds like the PBS thank you message
Persona 5 ruined me for other games!
This game is easily one of the best JRPGs I've ever played in my life.
Right now even though I'm not even close to completing it. I certainly feel like I'm playing my game of the year. As always Ben, you give such a nuanced and insightful review of a game that I'm sure many will be introduced to this great franchise.
Been playing with Japanese voices so when the review started with English voices I was confused for a second. :p
Thanks for the review Ben and the other contributing Allies!
Been waiting for your review. Subbed !
The beginning of the review is absolutely right there's no need to stress about every single thing your gonna do, this game has the same first impression as 3 and 4 in making people feel like there's not enough time to do anything more so with how much more story there is, but there's really no need to worry about that especially on a first playthrough which I think is the source of all those feelings and Morgana memes by summer vacation I was shocked by how much progress I made.
I can reccqmend at least starting rank 1 of Fortune confidant and finishing Temperance as soon as you can and for money fuse a persona with high luck and pulimpa and find a boss that can be confused.
I'm at 7 hours right now and I'm already addicted to this game. The funny thing? It's still the intro. My god I can't even imagine what will happen to me if I can do everything at one point during the story. I have a feeling that this game will be one of the best game I've ever played. The style alone is so awesome.
Check back in when you're on hr 100.
Anyone else realize the minute the title card popped up for the review, that the Eazy Allies color scheme and sliding bars melded perfectly with P5's main color scheme and prison theme?
We did it, bois.
Branden Baisden "we"? No not you. Atlus did.
akou12 bro I scrolled down and I saw 3 comments from you being a negative person? Why you so mad?
I agree with him! I'm tired of this "We Won!" mentality. No No No, THEY won!
SuperChochip how so? If we got to play this great is a win for me
Yes we did it the persona community is stronger than ever this game is bringing Newcomers into the series
I so much appreciated the intro portions of this game. It was drastically different from that if it's predecessors. It definitely threw me for a loop as I had become used to a more or less tame set up for the introduction to the game. The way P5's introduction was creative and purposeful definitely must be commended.
One of the greats! Great job on the review, Ben!
That score though~ It's a good day to be a Persona fan!
Holy cow, this review made me really want to buy the game. Extremely well done both Ben and Brandon!
Fantastic review and well worth the wait! I'm 100 hours in and I completely agree with Ben. Instant classic.
This game reminds me of The World ends with you with the style.
Wow This Review Was Very Well Written
Finally!!! I've been waiting to see what Ben thought about the game.
incredible game with a incredible review well done E.A Crew
Ben-sama does not disappoint.
Can't overstate how much pursuing social-links in P5 enhances the core gameplay and adds meaning to each interaction beyond unlocking interesting side-stories.
P-Studio knew exactly what made their series, refind it and stole my heart.
these guys do the best SERIOUS reviews on any media. Angry Joe's mass effect andromeda review was the kind of shit on pants funny video and thats why those guys are unique and make tons of money but no one can take away that these guys are just the most talented game reviewer media out there. Was extemely sad to see game trailers shutdown cause of the produccion values it added to most of their videos but hey the talent man labor is still here with us.
Amazing Review
what A masterpiece p5 royal is, it's gonna be yrs or until persona 6 before there's another turn based jrpg this good again.
10 OUTTA 10 Y'ALL, GREATEST TURN BASED JPG OF THE GEN, EASILY ✌
Will receive Persona 5 Royal this week. Hope Ben also does a review for it.
Have ya'll ever done interviews? I would love if you had a segment of a podcast that interviewed a couple of the VAs.
Okay, absolute newbie here... Is this a good entry point for the franchise and jrpgs in general? I'd love to try it
WannabeG00D Yes. They're not really connected.
WannabeG00D the only connection to old game ia cameo
It's kinda the same deal as with Final Fantasy games.
They share items/spells/summons, but are not connected story-wise, so you can jump in at any numbered title.
It's a great intro to JRPGs, but its accessibility and just downright fantastic quality might spoil you when it comes to other games in the genre.
WannabeG00D Yes!
Man, in the past I could never get into JRPG's or RPG's in general (though wanted to), but I ended up giving Persona 4 Golden a try and I'm so glad I did, because not only it became my 2nd-Favorite Game of All-Time, it also helped me get into RPG's and now my taste in games has grown dramatically.
After spending a week focusing on Persona 5, I'm now in a hard debate on weather I like it more or equally to Persona 4 Golden.
It is uncanny how close your opinions have always matched with mine (part of why this is the only channel I follow thoroughly). I played Zelda too, and while a fantastic game in its own right, Persona 5 just has that *zing* that seperates it from the rest.
This was the same thing with Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 as well. Really love games that are so tight thematically.
love the music in this game especially the first tune played in this review every time it plays after kicking ass i feel like dropping my controller and strutting round the living room in victory.
This is either Ben's greatest work as a writer or a testament to the power of Thesaurus.com.... I want to praise him for his sumptuous use of descriptive language but this is in stark contrast to most other EZA reviews which are full of factual listings of features and gameplay elements one could surmise without ever picking a game up. I sense that Ben felt much of what I did when playing Persona. The game can have a meaningful and lasting impact on the player and I'm glad that carried over to this review.
Great review. You've got yourself another subscriber.
Great review Ben! I personally didn't mind Mementos, but I did get annoyed by how I sometimes can't at least read a book or watch a DVD during the evening. It's a small issue, but it gets a few groans from me whenever Morgana forces me to go to sleep. At least let me make one lockpick damn it!
Other than that game's perfect. Like others have mentioned before, Makoto is best girl.
nice review ben buying it next week
While I do commend Ben for writing an outstanding review, I do have an issue with him about his reasoning for hating a certain character. I'm talking about Ann Takamaki. According to his twitter, he says Ann is shallow and annoying. Look, he can pick whatever character he wants as his girlfriend. I have no problem with that. He can even make the case that Ann can be annoying. However, I resent the fact that he calls her shallow. As someone who has played 90 hours of the game and still has yet to finish, Ann is hardly anything but shallow. Without spoiling, if anyone has followed her story, she is the most selfless character in the game. I'm just going to leave it at that.
Edit: I really hope Ian see this and can back me up on it..
The fact that she's selfless doesn't mean she's not shallow.
When you hang out with her she asks to take her "somewhere popular" and reacts strongest to branded trinket gifts.
Textbook definition of shallow.
Outside of looks there's nothing to her besides being caring and straightforward.
BackfromSpace that's your counter argument? Wow, that is weak. So preferences dictates how you're shallow? You need to obviously get out more. It is quite clear that you take things by face value only...which is quite ironic.
A guy who's getting all flustered because his waifu's getting criticized on the internet tells me to get out more. That gave me a good old chuckle.
You didn't even counter anything that i said.
A cliche blonde bimbo with a twist - she cares about her friends! Wow, what a character.
Please do tell what facets of her complex personality did i miss. I dare you.
And yes, preferences tell you a lot about a person. You'd know if you'd get out more.
"Please do tell what facets of her complex personality did i miss. I dare you."
You're the one calling her cliche, the burden is on you to make comparisons and examples.
This comment chain literally started with you claiming "Ann is anything but shallow", so put up or shut up.
Don't try and toss burden of proof around like a hot potato. It's yours from the start.
The fact that it's so difficult for you to add anything to my description of this character just further proves that me and Ben are both right.
Your reviews are great!
Oh yeah baby. This game is wicked. Wonderful review Ben :D
currently at 80 hours, this game has revitalized my interest in games, I've always loved persona but this installment is definitely my favorite, I still can't believe it's this great
Love ben and bloodworth's review a lot.
110 hours on the first playthrough. Currently playing through it the second time, with 70 hours on the record. Even tho I've play 180 hours of P5, I'm still in the honey moon phase with the game. I'm actually discovering many new things during the second play. P5 is absolutely a masterpiece. Btw, it made me cry like a baby, I don't usually cry..
Persona 5 is my Game of the Year, mostly because it's the first JRPG that has truly stuck with me. Horizon Zero Dawn is a close second, but this one just seemed like, more.
Ooh boy, hearing this voice immediately brings in the nostalgia.
I feel Ben didn't talked enough about the day to day life aspect, which is a big part of the game. Which is also what I love the most of the persona series. The immersion it brings is just insane since you are actually LIVING a student's life. You attend classes, working part time jobs, meeting and getting to know all sorts of people, exploring the city in different seasons through the year, fishing, cooking, bathing, studying, doing exams, reading books, growing vegetable, washing clothes, brewing coffee, going to maid cafe, playing at an arcade, watching movies, going to the gym, buying lottery, making girlfriends, hanging out with bros, school trips, festivals, etc. I can just keep going on and on.
