There’s frequent criticism about her difficulty, which I completely agree: she’s a little ridiculous as a boss. But what would have made her more balanced in my opinion is if they pushed into her lore of being blind. Imagine a fight where if you’re silent, malenia will resort to attacking random areas, but if you attack/move too much that will result in her knowing your location as normal for a while
Fun idea but her spatial awareness and senses seem to be to strong lore wise for such a thing, she will know where you are even without you making a sound. The fun fact is she was taught by a blind swordsman, which is why she is as good as she currently is.
@@physicssimulator2656 this. Some blind people have an incredible sense of smell and really good spacial awareness as well as her being a literal demigod so like still checks out.

She's not quite dead; she turns into a rot flower like Bad Ending Millicent, and we know for Millicent the state isn't supposed to be permanent and she'll eventually be reborn, so it's likely the same is true for Malenia. And you can still return the Unalloyed Gold Needle to her, so I'm thinking that means something.
i have the most respect for ppl who beat her with colossal/greatsword builds, i tried that on my first run and it was close to impossible it was the only time i had to use a summon
I ended up using Starscourge great swords and it honestly may have made it easier. In most bosses using a collosal sword is just extremely slow and inefficient but with malenia she actually takes poise damage so a successful jump attack will cause her to stagger a bit. As long as you only attack when she leaves herself open, it only takes 15 or so attacks per phase and ends up not being too bad. Idk if it’s easier than a normal sword but it certainly helped to actually get the benefit from the size.
I beat her with the Guts sword today. One of the most satisfying things in terms of gaming ever Took a whole 7 days though, and a good few hours each day. I was just too stubborn to respec and change my build for a single boss. What I did do was collect the Talismans and items I needed and day 7 I built myself up so well that I was able to loop Lion's Claw -> Jump Attack -> Poise Break -> Crit until she died And I didn't feel bad one bit for not letting her be able to move
I went in with a Guts great sword and it was hell. Respecced for frost damage and it helped a lot but I still got turned inside out plenty of times. Good times.
I used a mimic for first fight cause I got tired of having to do it over and over again and made sure I'd get to second phase with good resources and then de-summoned the mimic so technically I beat both phases without much aid from the mimic. I had the Giant Crusher
NG+6 and I still didn't know she was the blade of miquella! How did I miss this? Is it because my flesh is already consumed by scarlet rot? What am I missing???
I love that Malenia was an overt nod and homage to Nausicaa of the Valley of The Wind, one of Studio Ghibli's best but unfortunately nearly forgotten films by the younger gens. Everything from her golden armor prosthetics to her hair color to the Scarlet Rot and Caelid as a proxy for the Toxic Jungle in Nausicaa...and of course, her Scarlet Bloom transformation which is a dead ringer for the Fire Giant embryo hatching into a creature of vast destruction (and of course the fact that there is an actual Fire Giant too in ER). It's so cool tracing all the aesthetic influences from the great animes and mangas of old in today's great video games.
Took me 4 hours and almost pulling an all-nighter to beat her. May not be the best numbers but my god its the best accomplishment I've had on a video game to this day!!
Kek, I love the sweet summer child at 6:40 who repeats "You ain't that bad", using a Mimic Tear and basically not even understood a single moveset of her.
I got to her yesterday and got butchered for 1 hour. Pulled out mimic tear and with him was able to clear first phase. But boy phase 2 is even more brutal. Poor mimic tear didn't last 10 seconds in the second phase and then Malenia's shadow clone equivalent attack did me in. Looks like i will be stuck on her for a long time.
Better to not use summon then. I have a problem with summoning because it's constantly attacking her without holding back, the damage I do to her gone to waste because of that lifesteal
she was the only boss that I had struggles with. I've literally beaten everyone else under 5 attempts but with Malenia...nope, she was damn difficult, it took me days, never experienced that difficult in my life. I was doing an only fist/claws run with some faith related spells but my damage wasn't as good as her healing, so everytime I hit her her healing was almost the double amount.

Just beat her the other day no summons or bleed and the experience really brought me back to why I started loving the souls games so much. Nothing like beating a boss through sheer technical improvement and determination

I don't think people have an issue with others summoning in, especially on this boss. The part where I take issue is those who summon in and then brag about beating the boss or try to give tips for the fight. The biggest advantage from summons is the ability of them to draw agro. It makes the fight far easier and it's for that reason that if you had to summon, you aren't qualified to give advice unless the person asking for help is struggling while summoning in. This boss took me 6 hours, no summons, no cheese weapons (I used the brick hammer) at level 120. Easily the hardest boss in any video game I've played. There is absolutely no shame in summoning in.
@@fireboogaloo6871 I would type out how the same could be said for half the enemies in the game, but that would probably be way too long of a read. But long story short i do believe anyone has the right to brag about beating a boss regardless of how you dispatched it, unless you obviously cheated or glitched of course. Some people rather fight smarter not harder is all, I've seen several players that choose to stay under a certain level cause they feel too overpowered already & then complain when they get destroyed or get mad at other players that did the same fight at 200 instead & just breezed on by, not the players fault for letting himself get stronger. Not everyone wants to play handicapped, just for approval 🤷🏻♂️ But if it's one thing I've learned from this community is we'll never see eye to eye, unless we follow the rest of the sheep for approval. So I appreciate your input & congrats on your victory 👍

@@elitechaz8440 honestly seeing how well this post has been received, not too worried about people being upset. Understanding the tools at your disposal & how to use them effectively is something to brag about, considering how many people just ended up quitting after dying a handful of times & leaving a bad review of the game lol. 😂
I know that a lot of people here have already beaten Malenia, but in case someone's having trouble with her, here's my advice: Don't be afraid to summon. Malenia doesn't stagger easily but a summon can easily knock her out of many attacks. Black Knife Tiche, Omenkiller Rollo and Mimic Tear are all good choices (note that they have to be high level, otherwise they'll die quick). Tiche is very useful because her Black Flame attacks can go a long way in stopping Malenia's healing Don't get greedy, especially in second phase. She can combo many of her attacks together and if you're trying to attack her and don't stop the animation, you're going to lose a lot of health If you're struggling with Scarlet Aeonia at the start of second phase, run under her as she starts to cast the attack, then right once you're fully under her. She will track you first downwards but won't follow you as you run right. It may take a bit of tries to get it to work consistently The most important one tho, which I feel applies to all bosses, don't panic roll, especially from Waterfowl Dance. Dodging backwards puts you right on the edges of the attack and practically guarantees you'll get hit. The safest option in both phases is to dodge into her once per hit from Waterfowl, then away from her as she does the final move, doing it more than once can move you towards the outer edges and get you killed. In second phase it becomes harder because the attack gains more hitboxes, but it's still the safest option
Beating her with no summons, no bloodhound step and no BS moonveil or rivers of blood felt incredible. Just me, my trusty Booldhound Fang and my brass shield. Also, I did it once so now I never have to do it again lol.
She’s actually a bit easier than she used to be. There was a period of time when she didn’t even have to connect her hit for the auto heal to proc. She just had to get close.

There’s frequent criticism about her difficulty, which I completely agree: she’s a little ridiculous as a boss. This is such a cool idea

i have the most respect for ppl who beat her with colossal/greatsword builds, i tried that on my first run and it was close to impossible it was the only time i had to use a summon
One of the most satisfying things in terms of gaming ever
Took a whole 7 days though, and a good few hours each day. I was just too stubborn to respec and change my build for a single boss. What I did do was collect the Talismans and items I needed and day 7 I built myself up so well that I was able to loop Lion's Claw -> Jump Attack -> Poise Break -> Crit until she died
And I didn't feel bad one bit for not letting her be able to move
I went in with a Guts great sword and it was hell. Respecced for frost damage and it helped a lot but I still got turned inside out plenty of times. Good times.
I used a mimic for first fight cause I got tired of having to do it over and over again and made sure I'd get to second phase with good resources and then de-summoned the mimic so technically I beat both phases without much aid from the mimic.

Not everyone wants to play handicapped, just for approval 🤷🏻♂️
But if it's one thing I've learned from this community is we'll never see eye to eye, unless we follow the rest of the sheep for approval. So I appreciate your input & congrats on your victory 👍
@@agentmay0 really shouldn’t brag because that will piss off all the elitists and people in general that didn’t try to cheese the boss. When it only takes you three tries because you suck off your mimic to take 50% of the boss agro and damage. On top of using moonveil, and you brag about how easy it was. You’ll upset a lot of people and get a lot of hate because you need people to stroke your ego that you beat a boss everyone said is super hard by cheesing it. Use summons if must, but don’t act like you’re better than the people that actually didn’t cheese the boss.
@@elitechaz8440 honestly seeing how well this post has been received, not too worried about people being upset. Understanding the tools at your disposal & how to use them effectively is something to brag about, considering how many people just ended up quitting after dying a handful of times & leaving a bad review of the game lol. 😂

Unbeliveable! She might have a chance against Pinwheel

I know that a lot of people here have already beaten Malenia, but in case someone's having trouble with her, here's my advice:
Don't be afraid to summon. Malenia doesn't stagger easily but a summon can easily knock her out of many attacks. Black Knife Tiche, Omenkiller Rollo and Mimic Tear are all good choices (note that they have to be high level, otherwise they'll die quick). Tiche is very useful because her Black Flame attacks can go a long way in stopping Malenia's healing
Don't get greedy, especially in second phase. She can combo many of her attacks together and if you're trying to attack her and don't stop the animation, you're going to lose a lot of health
If you're struggling with Scarlet Aeonia at the start of second phase, run under her as she starts to cast the attack, then right once you're fully under her. She will track you first downwards but won't follow you as you run right. It may take a bit of tries to get it to work consistently
The most important one tho, which I feel applies to all bosses, don't panic roll, especially from Waterfowl Dance.
“That’s not fair!”
