- We were privelaged enough to take on another awesome build owned by Kenny Alvarez. His all original 1982 Toyota SR5 Pickup. Also the owner of an absolute pristine TE27 Corolla we built, well put some previous footage together of his amazing 73 corolla as well.
We pretty much did a full build on his 82 Toyota Pickup. .040 over 11:1 Traum pistons, Eagle connecting rods, fully blue printed and balanced assembly. 45 DCOE webers with a cannon intake manifold, Custom made camshaft, fully ported and polished cylinder head. All Funneled into a 4 into 1 304 stainless header, to 2.5 inch stainless exhaust.
Enjoy the video and the beautiful sound of those amazing 45 Webers.

Love what you do guy's. I have been doing this for 40 years. It's great to see some of the younger generation that still gets into this stuff.
Hey Jay, Appreciate the support. dont be fooled tho, im a old man! LOL!!
@@psiracing It's just amazing and what you can do now. But you guy's really are awesome!
I'm sure you know this already but GODAMN that is by very far the cleanest looking 22r install or any motor for that matter that I have ever seen. Bravo sir! 👏👏👏👏
Hahaha! Thank you, we tried to make sure that lil guy came out killer!
This has to be my favorite 22r ever! for real!
Thank you appreciate it!
22 r is a bullet proof MOTOR! In my opinion. Love it! Bring it back! Great gas mileage every thing!
Toyota always has a way of getting rid of the best engines they produced
I really envy this guys patience and mechanical ability
Thank you
Beautifully done. You, sir, are an artist
Thank you very much!
i just got an 82 22r myself and i can't wait to start doing stuff like this
Awesome, there killer trucks
yooooooo this is the first video of yours i've seen and you can most definitely guarantee i'm here to stay!! love the style, so fresh, so clean, and so informative!! thanks brother
Hey man, appreciate that
Had a 22R in my first car - 1981 Toyota Celica GT. Loved that car, raced everyone at my HS in that thing!
LOL!! I had a corolla back in HS and did the same thing! Good times!!
Super nice truck dude. Excellent job. My first truck was a 1994 Yoda with the 22re motor. That was the best truck I ever had.
Thanks man, great trucks and super hard to find now a days
Willing to make a set of headers like that ill buy emm??
I had a 78 celica with a single .45 dcoe headers Isky 269 lift cam 3” pipe to the back no cat, it was a beast!!!!! All this in 81-82.
That's awesome, those were definitely the good years!
THIS MAN KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING.
Thanks man! Appreciate it!
Calls an engine, a motor...
Seems suspect immediately...
@@bigharrykochenbauls4567all engines are motors. Not all motors are engines tho.
Sure does 💯💯💯
Too bad he doesn't know the difference between an engine and a motor
Ah shet , take it Ez-killa. And with that rolla too 🔥
😂😂
Very sweet build. I love that little 4banger❤️. I built a 1776 motor for my ‘71VW Bus and drove it 12yrs. It would fly @75-80mph in 4th up to Reno.
Hahaha that's awesome, so many displacement options with the Volkswagens, wish we had that with the toyotas!
There is not engine like the 22 R , awesome engine love it
Thank you Lorenzo, definitely was a fun build
I hurd these 22r are so much fun to
Drive and just are the balls ! My girls dad always talks about how badass these were in the day !
Yea they are fun, big time torquey engines!!
Sweet job!! Gotta love them old school toys!!🤘🏽🏁🤙🏽🦾
Thank you! There definitely a blast!
those carbs those side draft carbs make such wonderful noises
Nothing like beautiful weber sounds
@@psiracingdoes it not need a air filter?
@@psiracing just put a set of 40s on my 20r with a 292 cam ported and polished head....
Damn that is one clean build! Toyota and Nissan are very popular where I'm from! I can't wait to see the 1/4 mile times on this awesome truck!
Hey man, thank you! The owner isn't a bigtime drag racer but loves driving it everyday! I have a few more videos coming soon with it
@@psiracing Thanks for the awesome content .
Awesome build my favorite Toyota pickups.
Thank you!
My 81’ longbed with the 22R is in the garage so i can start the rebuild. Going 40 over as well and going to add a turbo. The side draft webbers are badass and sound so good.
Can't best that carb sound, especially with a nice size cam
Amazing build 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks brotha!
Nice job on the truck it's very clean in and out
Thank you
Thats a sweet build
That truck is awesome sir!!!

Love the video man nice build can't wait to see can't wait to see the dyno numbers. i built a Toyota 20R 22R hybrid 10 years ago for my buddy pulls to 7500 RPM dynoed at 160 horsepower to the rear wheels for Street truck I think that's not too bad I used lc engineering stuff for that build just subscribed can't wait to see more and my buddy still has your a old school tube chassis AE86
Wow bro, that's crazy, miss that AE86
You got a nice setup. Props

Hell yea, goodluck and Thank you!!
Awesome 🙌
🙌🏼🙌🏼
I would love to run those headers in my 82'🔥💯
We got many request ls for them. Unfortunately we didn't make a jig to duplicate them
man that thing is nice!
Thank you
Beautiful 😍 take my credit card, do mine next!
hahahhahahaaa, lets gooo!!
Back in 1995 I souped up my 86 Toyota Truck after the mini truck scene in socal was gone. I followed the trend that was catching on with the import scene and the likes. It had a mid cam from trd, 44ph mikunis, headers but forgot the brand. e fan, trd clutch, lockrite locker, had the pully shaved and balanced with no a.c. short shfiter and flytrap. I was really learning at the time and found out my mikuni intake manifold where small and the carbs where right at the head. I didnt have a aftermarket fpr and seems like that set up was for off road driving and lost alot in the 1/4 mile. It took alot of gas and was loud from intake and exahust just to beat oem hondas at the time. I learned about heavy rims too, it had MOMO Mirages from an MKIII Supra. Anyways, when I put the stock carbs and intake back on it was alot quicker especially high end. I ended up selling the truck bone stock with just the bolt ons in 2001. It was my first ride I ever souped up.
hahaha thats a awesome build
@@psiracing the headers, I remember now after looking for headers for the 22r they were called Doug Thorley headers, I remember they were expensive too in the mid-90s. They were short headers though I don't think I needed the emissions tube but I think I blocked it off some how. I don't think they make them anymore only in long tube.
I have one of those engines and i keep tuning it and swapping from truck to truck it a 20r 22r hybrid
Great motors
This thing is amazinggggg wowwww.
Hahahha it's a blast, stay tuned and be sure to subscribe, gling on Sunday to grab new footage of it! 🤙🏼
22R best engine ever built

sick af!
Thanks man
I MISS MY 22R, 89 VAN
I definitely gonna email you guys about doing my header on 80 model pickup! Awesome quality stuff 😍
Thanks guys! Appreciate it
@@psiracing I emailed you awhile back from my personal gmail account. It’s under Keith Lunsford. I would love to hear back about a quote on a header

Should of put a 20R head on it. Out flows the 22R big time and bump up the compression. Sounds good.😁👍
I hear ya but he wanted to keep the motor all original, this thing rips as it is! Lol
Almost thought you was in Hawaii somewhere, nice build.
Hahahhaa!! We have a lot of great customers there and hope to be back soon!
This is all I ever wanted for for my old '82 😥
HAHAHAHA, its only money
And I’m out here just trynna get mine running after a rebuild🤣🤣
hahahahahahahaa
I had Hilux with diesel 2L, on end of its life I swaped 22r. Its a good bullet proof engine.
Its a definite work horse!
Very Cool, I have a 1987 22R 4x4 std single cab , I need to find time to work on and restore
Time is always the issue, especially with our own projects!
3 years later but that's got to be the most awesome Toyota engine I've seen in a while. And the truck itself. I have one the exact year and color. But mine does Not look like that.
does it have an air filter or does it just suck up dirt all the time
I have a 78 with a 22/20 hybrid. Had stage 5, dual spring w/ titanium retainers, lce forged rods. 22reT pistons, Weber 38. Still need fuel pump. But will be downsizing in cam to a stage 3 With new rockers.. if i dont do the swap first lol and sell thay engine
Damn the build sounds radical
Mini trucks like that is popular where I’m from same set up
There alot of fun, really hard to find here in the states!
Can you help i have a 87 22r pickup running a weber 32 36 with electric choke its dieseling pretty bad during shut off, i have a fuel pressure regulator 2.5psi also the timing i set to 0 degrees, it runs great at idle and doesnt stall at stop lights just dieseling when turned off any advice thx
awesome
🤙🏼🤙🏼
That’s crazy, I never seen a 11 to 1 setup using pump gas. A lot of people claim that there will be pinging issues with that type of compression ratio.
He's locked the timing so it won't but idk if that's the best way to make power at both ends
Did you upgrade the ground straps from cylinder head to body etc?
I built a 22r with a Chevy bottom half 22r headers .. craziest build an pricey 😂 awsome ride you got there #86singlecab
Sweet and thank you
@@psiracing aloha 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I miss my 83 and 85
Gotta look for another one, there all getting hard to find
Really should get that temperature up. If you're on the level and know enough to build a engine like that you should know running an engine to cool can be worse than a little bit hot. All the metals expand with heat and ea different metal even different alloys of the some metal expand at different rates. Not getting up to temp can keep pistons from fully expanding and wobble in the bore. The oil doesn't get hot enough and cannot flow as much volume the list goes on. Maybe I'm wrong I can't claim to be an expert with 4cylinder yoters but the engines I do build and have plenty of experience with don't like being ran at lower temps. Nice looking piece though foresure a one off build
I appreciate the opinion, we've been building toyota engines for over 25 years. Engine builds enough temp to be in a happy place, was just colder then normal in that video!
Would LOVE to see you guys build a All Motor TOYOTA engine monster for the 1/4 mile
That would be cool, for now closest thing we are doing is building a 4AG for our personal starlet. Should be a cool build, gonna be 12:1 with 48 ITB's
@@psiracing awesome, can’t wait to see the content.
Would be amazing to see you modify a alcohol high CR 2ZZ NA Toyota engine built for 1/4. I can tell You’ve got the expertise and the love for the sport to do so
Se love that engine. And we like to swap on my 94,22R e
would it be possible to post a link of what you did like items you replaced and where you bought all the items please and thank you
Sweet ride!I have a 1987 mazda b2000 and don’t know which way to go with engine.I thought about a Miata engine swap.I love those Toyota
yea thats a tuff call. B2000 are cool trucks also, im just not to familiar with the engines that can work easily for you in there
Probably best to just get the ford 2.3 an do a engine swap
@@stephenbowden1142swap it with a 5vz
Durooo 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷yo tengo una pick up también
Gracias hermano!
Hey brother solid videos and builds. If you dont mind me asking what was the tool you used to measure the air to fuel ration on the weber side draft carbs?
Any updates on that distributor advance lockout video? Thanks!
Does your header's primaries all share the same length? The sound is so awesome and has a way throatier/rumbly sound vs other aftermarket header options i've heard. Love the build this things really awesome!
Thank you, we tried to make them as close to equal length as possible
Beautiful Work I know the header is Custom but would love a header in my 85 Toyota xtra cab 2wd.
Thanks appreciate it, would make a noticeable amount of difference
That sound tho
The valves are a lil loose. Set them at 7 and 11. It'll be alot quieter
Is the AC sistem R134 and how did you converted it? I got a new AC compressor but it came without the AC manifold that goes in top of it and I can't find it anywhere?
That's a good question if it is R134, I'd have to ask the owner
I have a 83 toyota hilux with the 4 speed manual, and I'm thinking about doing a stage 2 cam and a 38/38 weber. Should I also put dual valve springs and is the 38/38 weber a good carburetor for that kind of setup
I think the stock manifold and carb are both pretty restrictive. You can pick up a lce offenhauser single plane then a 38/38 would bolt right up and make a significant difference in power.
As for dual springs, unless you have a cam or are consistently taking it past 5500 rpm on the stock stuff, it should be fine on stock stuff.
Ive got a 81 22r in my sand rail and im ditching my ported stock intake and oem carb for the lce offenhauser with a holley 2300 2 barrel.
I was wondering where did you tap into the ignition for the electric fan setup? Also by chance where would I be able to tap into the ac power(just so I can make my e fan turn on with ac)
Man that's a hard for to answer because we don't have the truck with us. We built that truck a few year a back. Best advice is just take your time and get a a test light and see where the 12v power wire is that powers the a/c compressor
Beautiful build, love the header set up! I’m considering an early 90s Toyota build myself, more along the lines of a nice street strip build. A had 3 Tacoma’s mildly done up as a 20 something year old, just bolt ons and suspension mostly. Im wondering what your thoughts were, would you build up the 22re or swap in a 2 or 3rz? I’d say my aim would be just north of 300hp, with an eventual turbo set up. I’m guessing 3rz would be the way to go, but what are your thoughts on the 22re and that hp level? Thanks!
Hey Trey, man that's a tough. What I can tell you from this post is, people really love thwre 22r's. We have gotten so much feedback from this build its absolutely amazing. Now if you wanted to make easier power, the RZ engine I hate to say just has more technology in it. We have a turbo build coming to the channel soon. Will also have a Elite Haltech ecu to control it
@@psiracing fair enough! I kind of figured the same about the RZ motors. I’ll be watching for the turbo build for sure though!
If there is no vacuum advance does it not lack advance when it's low rpm and under load?
No, it actaully has more power since the timing doesnt move around as much. There is only about a 5 degree difference from idle to max timing as you rev the engine up with the advance gone.
how is the valvetrain holding up with that lift ? oiling mods? I had cam
ocker fails 450 lift
So far so good, I make sure he stays on top of oil changes and we run good oil
Nice work. Was wondering about initial timing setting and full advance timing @ rpm. Did you recurve the advance? Thanks
Hey John, what we do is eliminate the vacuum advance and basically keep it locked out. The beauty of the distributor is as u rev the engine it has a small delay in advance. Example, we set it at 30 and as u rev it, it may advance to 34. No detonation issues and makes it so much more responsive
Nice bro I have a Tacoma need to do some work on it!!u have more videos
Hey man, thank you, what year tacoma? We have done a few turbocharged
Does your truck have power steering. I’ve been thinking about adding power steering to my 82 pickup.
We had to take the power steering out to accommodate the header we wanted to make custom
I have an '83 long bed that I will be digging into this year. You have given me some ideas and I may be reaching out to get more info as I get further into mine. Side note - I thought '82 still had the round headlights, but I see this one has squares. Were they swapped, or am I mistaken? Love the headers BTW.
Hey man, regarding the headlights I know the truck is all original. May be a late 8or early 83 if so. Any help you need you can reach out and we'll do.what we can to answer any questions or get ya hard to gind parts
Hey what exactly did you have to do to upgrade the alternator? I’m trying to do this to a 1982 Toyota Sunrader 22r
We purchased a alternator from a late model 1982 Toyota corolla with a 3tc. Alternator has the built in regulator
where are valve cover pcv/vent routed to? nothing? what spark plugs and coil? cfm on carb? thanks!
Yes no PCV just a vent with a small filter was installed after that picture. MSD Blaster coil with a msd 6AL Igniter box. Not sure CFM on carbs but there 45 Webers which move a ton of air.
Great job , very nice truck, I have the1980 Toyota Corona and it has the 20R engine, I’ve tried to rebuild the engine but I couldn’t find the parts to do that , even the mechanics told me the same thing , I wonder if I can replace it with the 22R engine ?
Really? That's weird, what parts did you have a hard time finding, I'm sure we can get whatever you need
Can you please tell us where did you buy those carburetorS, the cannon intake manifold, and the stainless header?
The carbs and intake we got straight from weber, the header we custom made along with the full stainless exhaust
are you guys the same PSI that built a sick RWD 3SGTE AE86 a long time ago, white, yellow, orange, red?
Hahahha! Yup its us and we are coming back soon with another Toyota colored drag AE86! Stay tuned
I’m running a electric fuel pump on mine but having issues with the dead head fuel pressure regulator what fuel pressure regulator are you running and at psi
We use a Mallory 4309 fuel pressure regulator, simple low pressure regulator that returns fuel to the tank to keep pressure more accurate. We only run about 3 psi fuel pressure
