All About Elephant Behaviour! An Introduction
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- We are excited to share this introduction and new series of HERD educational videos with you, our followers, and African elephant enthusiasts around the world.
The aim of the series is to open the world of elephant behaviours to anyone and everyone who has an interest, and explain it in a very informal and easy-to-understand format.
The information shared in our series is based on the “Elephant Ethogram”, a public platform that has been created by the remarkable team at Elephant Voices, following 50 years of dedicated elephant research, specialising in documenting and referencing elephant behaviours.
Every day we learn something from the ethogram, and so, during our journey of discovery, we thought we would share some of the basics of elephant behaviours with you, our followers - so that you can observe elephants with a new understanding.
We are using snippets of moments shared between the Jabulani herd, which is semi-habituated, but shares many of the same interactions and behaviours as wild elephants.
The episodes will be shared every two weeks, and we will focus on one behaviour per episode.
Are you ready to know more about elephants? We hope you are! Please join us on this new journey together. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини

I'm excited about this. Our Jabulani herd that we love and respect will be featured. To have "our" herd's behaviors explained in depth will be an experience so personal to those of us that have been watching for years. I think it will be an eye opener for us all and I can't wait to start watching. Our comments on Herd's videos range from serious to lighthearted and now we can truly understand what we watched. This is fantastic. Thank you.
We are very happy to hear such positive feedback, thank you, Lynne. We hope that it does provide insight and that it gives you more depth of understanding when you observe elephants. Thank you for following us so closely.
This is a very supportive community! About 1/3 of viewers hit the like button! That's really high, but HERD deserves even higher! I'm looking forward to this series!

Yay! This is such a cool tool for us watchers. This is going to be an amazing experience rewatching so many have heard great moments again he kind of an elephant's ear view and I view of the interpretation of what's going on with best guesstimates. definitely understand that it's not going to be like an interpreter for the deaf it's not going to be you know a word for word translation but this is a fantastic tool. thank you adeen and everyone had heard for cooperating with this project. and you should you guys said it's on UA-cam as well as Instagram because I don't get Instagram. so I will look for that Thanks guys and have a great day. my love to all the elephants.

Awesome! I watch HERD everyday and I can’t wait to get a better understanding of these amazing gentle giants ❤
Thank you so much. We hope you enjoy this series with us.
I believe i remember a couple years ago a video announcing this research and then an educational outcome. By Adine's daughter. I think... This is what the world has been waiting for. Elephant behavior. Amazing! ❤🐘
We are so fortunate that Elephant Voices have shared their 5 decades of research and referenced what they studied for everyone to make use of. Of course we do embark on various research projects, but the Elephant Ethogram created by Elephant Voices has gifted the world with a solid referencing tool which assists further research.
Elephant Voices and Joyce are amazing. Such great news - Thank you! 😊

Yes they are! They are the best of the best in elephant research. What they have shared with the world is priceless.

Thanks.
Our pleasure! thank you
This will be wonderful, looking forward to learning more 🐘🙏❤️
Great,thank you
Looking forward to your videos. 💕🐘
Thank you so much, Linda. That is great
Important to understand communications--one thing from HERD videos I have learned is how subtle to humans elephant communications are while it is easy to see a massive creature and assume simplicity of actions and communications, a persistent human error with the natural world. The group always seems to know where Phabeni is moving around among them and between their legs.
So true. They are fascinating animals. There is so much still to learn!
This is a new exciting chapter for HERD. Thank you for always educating us, most importantly, caring for the wonderful ellies. Cheers from California USA.
Yes, something new and exciting. We hope that you enjoy it all the way in Cali, USA! Thank you,Linda
Excited.

Very exciting! ❤️🐘❤️

Can’t wait. Not 5 mins before this my son and I were talking about ostrich voices and elephant voices and how birds and reptiles sound similar. What a coincidence.

Thank you for the lovely comment, Barbara!
This is incredibly exciting!
I'm sure it must be very labour-intensive to produce informational videos--all the work of gathering video examples of the behaviours, the voiceovers etc--so THANK YOU for your dedication. I look forward to learning so much more about the HERD elephants & their behaviour!
Seeing excitement like yours makes it all worthwhile! Thank you so much.
Looking forward to these educational videos about these magnificent creatures. Hip, hip hooray to the team for this innovative idea.

Herd never stops giving, a truly wonderful endeavour. Learning never stops with the elephants, the integration of the babies has been very interesting. The planning is impeccable and that makes it work. Huge thanks to all involved. It has opened up a world very far away.

This is great news. Looking forward to learning!
Thank you very much
I couldn't wait, so I watched some videos yesterday. And I've already learned so much I didn't know before, like how elephants also have ear secretions and the special noise a calf makes.
I want to thank you for making this huge archive accessible for free. What a gift!! I am very grateful.
Good on you!!! We love your enthusiasm. In all fairness, the true credit needs to go to the team at Elephant Voices, who published this free platform, that we have used to not only educate ourselves, but to try share this knowledge with our followers too.
This is so exciting! I learn a little or a lot each video from HERD, but this will be a great extra. Thank you all. ❤
Thank you very much, we appreciate your feedback.

" J Trunk" was my first lesson last year.
we love a good J trunk move - nice one! Yes we will definitely have an episode dedicated to that again :-)
@@herdelephantorphanage it's the easiest one to understand immediately. The trunk looks like J smelling left and right or behind. Attentive Vigilant. * Yes I'm all in...

Way cool. Can't wait!!
Fantastic news, thank you!
Wonderful! I will very much look forward to learning more about amazing elephants. Love and admire them so much! Thank you for offering this opportunity. ❤️
Our pleasure! Thank you for your expression of interest!
I'm genuinely really excited for this series and to learn about identifying elephant behaviours. While it's all well and good to coo over cute videos on social media of calfs mock charging or stumbling over their cute feet, I think a lot of us have a respect for elephants as a whole and would welcome some greatly needed context to their behaviours. Can't wait to see the next episode.
That is great, we are so chuffed that you are so eager to learn with us - we hope you enjoy it . Thanks for the lovely comment!
How exciting!!
