Dan and the kids wanted me to try something new in the kitchen. Dan was scrolling the internet and came across a recipe for Mini Tater Tot burgers and everyone insisted I try them, which I did and they were so delicious. An added bonus is that they are also gluten-free for those who can't have bread but miss burgers. I also decided to take you on a walk around the farm, introduce you to some new babies and show you what Dan has been up to. Enjoy your time at little Mountain Ranch.

I found a therapist for a PTSD situation, through Better Help. The ONLY counselor or therapist I have ever gained anything from. EVER. And I am 55. It was an amazing surprise that I found someone that could give me valuable tools to work through my situation. I only used the service for a couple months, but by far the most valuable counseling I have ever received. Highly recommend for people like me, that felt like I would never find the right match of Therapist-Patient.

Mental health is more important in my opinion than almost any other kind of health. I’m not one to use therapy often but whenever I have it’s been helpful.

When I was just a few months over a year old, my daddy had me outside getting me to say the names of all the critters.
When it came to a baby turkey, I said teepee, and he laughed really hard because I said everything else fairly well.
So daddy named that turkey Teepee and we never slaughtered him, he was my pet, well, one of them.
Before I was allowed to take care of a baby chick by myself, daddy give me an antique toy that was a small wind up bird and said if I took care of it and didn't tear it up, then he'd let me tend one myself.
It didn't go exactly as he planned because I wouldn't let nothing happen to that little bird.
So he kept his word and let me tend the baby chick I chose, it was a Rhode island red, and I literally took that poor chicken everywhere I went, including to the swing set on a double swing.
And daddy said he didn't think she liked being on that swing all the time, until when he saw me on the swing by myself and the little chick was up under me flapping her little wings and trying to jump up where I was, even though it was way too far for her to reach, so he gave me the go ahead to let her play on the swing with me.
When she got bigger and I was off in the house or somewheres else, she'd jump up on the swing, ride it out until it stopped swinging, jump off, then jump back up there and start all over again.
Daddy said I spoiled her, and I said he had told me I could raise her the way I wanted, he just laughed cause there was nothing more he could say.
Then one day, daddy says I've got something for you, hold out your hand, so I did and he placed a small egg in my hand and asked if I knew what it was, and I said it was a bantam egg, and he said no, it's your baby's first egg, and my eyes about bulged out of my head.
I thought something was wrong with her because she laid such a small egg, but that's when I learned their first eggs are usually small like that.
I still have that egg and the wind up bird in a display case over half a century later.

We used to raise about 500 Cornish cross chicks a year. We did have some leg issues if we let the birds get too big. We would also keep back several birds with good legs and raise them up to about 12/13 lbs dressed. I actually liked these large birds better than any small turkey I’ve ever eaten!

I have made the same experience with Cornish Cross; some of mine I let go all the way to 9 months. They got humongous (couldn't fit them into 2 gallon bags) and their breasts were larger than a turkey's; also, surprisingly, the meat did not get tough. Some of the ladies even laid eggs; I processed all the roosters first since they actually attempted to mount the ladies. I made sure that I kept moving the food and water sources so they didn't just lay around and I restricted the amount of food they had available.

The tater burgers are a good idea. A thinner patty (or maybe a piece of ham) would make them excellent for the appetizer plate.
Also, mixing egg with the potatoes, you could probably make a full size burger.

I raised turkeys and chickens. Turkeys are actually really smart, intelligent birds. As for my one turkey, she's always stealing the chicken eggs and she sits on them and she hatches the eggs 🥚. She doesn't care if they're her babies or not. Any baby turkeys or baby chickens? My one turkey would take over and come of the mama

We live in Pennsylvania and raise both turkeys and cornish cross birds. I agree with you turkeys are smart. We have had a few leg issues with the chickens but nothing major. My husband feels it has to do a lot with the hatchery you use too. We have 2 we have ordered from and there are more issues when we have to order from one over the other. I also agree - the smell is the worst. Love watching your channel. The burgers looked amazing and good job Dan!!

I was just watching a UA-cam channel where the gentleman made. Philly cheese steak sliders. It made me thing about your sliders. It made me think about your tater tot sliders. I was wondering if you could bake off the potato mixture in a rimmed cookie sheet and when finished cut to size. No oil needed to fry, better health. He layered his filling then put back in oven to finish off. If using cheese it seemed as it melted to hold everything together. 1. Tater tot, 2. Filling, 3 another tater tot. Just an idea, happy Mother’s Day. The UA-cam site was Come site at my table, program was called Philly Cheesesteak sliders. Once you watch it, my exploration maybe hard to follow. Just the idea of baking items may save time and calories.

Those burgers looked delicious! Great idea. Good work Dan - looks great!! I agree with you 100% on the turkey's and cornish - I find that most times the reason people have trouble is because they have food in front of them all the time with limited activity. I split in.to two feeding with evening being smaller than morning. I have a couple turkeys I have had for 3 years and the toms weigh over 50 pounds -- I tried doing AI last year but that didn't go so well. Cornish cross, like you, I have had well over 10 pounds and in fact I have some I need to do still. The exercise is a big one when they get to that size though, or so I feel. I have also noticed a difference between hatcheries and between batches from same hatchery though - I think it depends on how the 7 generations were bred to develop the cornish cross chicks we get....just a feeling I have based on my experiences and the research I have done. However, It would be nice to not have to rely on the hatchery and so I am playing around with a few things for them both to remove the need to order .

I'm 70 and grew up on 400 + acres w/6 siblings, 175 was tillable... we grew over 40 items and our root cellar held on average 2,000 quarts of everything we grew. we had neighbors that provided chickens & eggs & taters in trade for 1st choice of our fall harvest. I have only raised Cornish cross twice, but I never lost one of them and never had any problems with their health either. I prefer the taste of CC to the Freedom Rangers and the fact that they grow so quickly, but they are kind of monsters. I took their feed away at night and I put their water on the other side of the run from the food so they would have to move around. I did butcher them at about 8 weeks because I was scared their legs would break, but it would be great not to have to do that so I could get larger birds. Thanks for that info.

I got meat birds from a farmer who was late butchering them. When i was trying to part out the birds i thought my knives were dull. I couldn't cut thru the skin then when i tried to separate the thigh from the body it didn't move! I thought the bird was in full rigour. It took nearly 40 minutes to do a ten minute job. One thigh and drumstick weighed almost two pounds. Butchering as many as you have will make for a longday

We’ve only even had one who showed any interest at all so we kept them covered for a few days and then he was fine. They seem to just now they aren’t for eating.

When my oldest son died, four years ago at age 25, for no reason (medical nor other), understanding who our Sovereign God was and is, us what not only helped me but also allowed joy to consume me.
There is truly nothing more helpful nor more important than having confidence in salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
This world is full of evil and sadness. Having hope in Jesus Christ makes this world pale in comparison and allows us, even in the midst of trials and hardships, to be able to have joy and glorify God through it all.
May you know this peace and comfort from Jesus Christ!❤️

I’m so sorry for such a tragic loss! I agree with you, Jesus can bring such joy in tragedy. At the same time, therapy can be such a help to metal health.

No, the cows are smart enough not to strand in the pile

@@LittleMountainRanch good! I asked because one time, without knowing it, I must have been near a red ant area and the pain was phenomenal. I had to basically leave clothing there to get away from the assault 😊

If you put flour in those potatoes they are not gluten-free

I was very excited because it says gluten free but then you added flour so it cannot possibly be gluten free....🙁
