Hey everyone, Dragonflight is here and it seems to be making an impression on a lot of people. Mike's launch went pretty well considering he was streaming from a castle in the English countryside with no reception, and somehow managed to avoid almost any server issues - unlike my dumbass suck with no world server on Tarren Mill. Mike has spent the last week going deep on the new expansion, and here are his initial impressions from the first week. How did launch go for you?
honestly? didn't go to me. I'm staying clear of WoW until I'm 100% sure they don't do a 180 and fuck it up again, XIV and some other co-op and Single player games for me for now.

Letting us fly and explore everything from the get-go was the best decision Blizzard has made in a long time. Let Pathfinder remain in the past and never bring it back.
Do you remember how much people were crying about how flying ruined world pvp and open world gaming back in tbc and wrath? Pathfinder wasn’t the best solution but idk if this one is either
@@yaboirairai the pvp players complaining about this are a small loud portion of the player base, flight is one of the coolest moment to moment gameplay loops of all of wow and always has been, removing it or pathfinding it are horrible ideas. Just let people have fun, the WoD-SL pvp before the rep grind unlocks was still terrible and just made the game worse. Imo the biggest mistakes blizzard makes are listening to pvp die hards over 97% of the rest of the community and war mode proves wow players don’t prioritize pvp as the main draw, most don’t even touch it and those who do rarely want honorable fights.

My favorite thing so far outside of Dragonriding and the sidequests, is being ALLOWED to hardgrind rep again if I want too, instead of being physically cucked into a 1 month grind of WQ's for 75 rep a pop.
This. I really like that the option exists to spend hours and hours farming keys, for example. I am not personally farming keys for hours, but I love that it's a valid option. Spending lots of time on professions, Cobalt Assembly rings, various world events, all rewarding... So many systems, so little timegates.

It's the best launch in many, many years. I have been playing a metric shit ton and I still have stuff to constantly do, the world feels so alive right now and I'm having so much fun.
This is the first time playing wow is SUCH a long time that rather than already thinking about what they need to fix in the next content patch and how the expansion might be good by the end. I am excited about how they will develop these systems and I am pretty happy with where they are even now. things are looking up and hopefully this continues.
@@lknisha Exactly why even with all this glowing press, I ain't budging. I have no faith that this team will remain competent throughout the expansion, and need to be convinced that the team's made some significant strides forward before I get back in. Breaks my heart since I loved WoW in the past.

So happy to see Preach carry over the lessons learned in FF XIV to WoW. Taking your time, giving a lot more emphasis on enjoying the content at your own pace. I have come back to WoW mostly thanks to you Mike, and I have been enjoying Dragonflight so far. I play 2-3 hours a day so it takes me a while to do stuff but there is definitely a lot to do and that is always good. Just joined a guild to do some raiding and I hope to go back to enjoying the game again like I used to many years ago. Thanks for the video and all the tips.
I have to imagine dragonriding is going to make it much harder for gathering bots to be worthwhile. Tons of nodes in places inaccessible from the ground, as well as the sheer scale of the zones built for the speed of dragons. If that's part of why they are forcing the new system and not enabling traditional flying, I'm all for it.
Thanks for the dragon flying tip. Was able to fly from Brakenhide hollow to the highest peaks in Thaldrazsus without stopping. Think I could of flown forever. Manually flying around the zones is fun when it's new. But after a while it's like F it. Just take a taxi instead and alt-tab
There are literally dozens of other games to play rather than a game made by Koticks company. Until he is not there anymore, actiblizz won't see a cent from me, even if they make the best game ever.... Which they haven't done since diablo2.
@@niklasstahl98 SE is a good company, and a lot of that is directly due to the fact that it isn't exclusively a Western company. As in, the employees and decision makers aren't overly impacted by Western mental illness. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it is much better from my viewpoint.

Man I wish I had caught wind of the Allcraft before it happened. Missing an Allcraft episode even by a day means you'll hear everyone talk about it for a month before you find it anywhere. I've never met a show that wanted to not be watched as badly as that one.

Couldn't find it on Campbell's channel either, neither on youtube nor Twitch. Honestly, this is the show that doesn't WANT to be found.
I think it would be kinda cool if you could enable/disable dragonriding on certain mounts. Say Blizz decide to add dragonriding to every single dragon mount in the game. It would be amazing, but its not for everyone, so let people disable it on the mounts if they don't want it.
@@TheDaxter11 I also think it would look silly on some mounts. Some people would say who cares, let be people have fun with it if they want to, but for me there is like a turn-off point like in FFXIV where they just let everything float around and it just looks really goofy and kind of like... like its just random stuff thrown together. Dunno, cant really explain it.
@@stylishskater92 I get that, but in FF14's defence, as much as I wish it weren't the case, they make their dungeons EXTREMELY linear. WoW has multiple dungeons and raids where you can hop on your mounts and run from point A to B, and you have alts to level and unlock flying on, so mounts that can't fly are fine cause you'll still use the ground only ones here and there. In FF14 the only account bound unlockables are store bought, (not all store bought ones though which is fucking stupid but regardless) and with being able to play all classes on one character there aren't as many reason to make an alt, and with all dungeons and raids being linear and not designed more openly with mounting available, if you make ground-only mounts no one's gonna use em cause once you unlock flying there's no point. As for dragon riding looking silly on some mounts, I can't think of any dragon mounts that it would look silly on because apart from the wyrm/pandaren dragon models I think Blizz made each type of dragon in the game as a mount with dragon riding on it with animations that work. Unless you mean non-dragon mounts, but they might do different movement mechanics, like in GW2.
I want to be able to use old flying mounts. Not because I necessarily prefer them most of the time, but because I can point a direction and go take a piss, or to fill out the gaps in vigor when gathering and _doing a lot of short hops,_ or just to hover in the air waiting for rares.
I went and collected all the dragon glyphs specifically without handy notes because I LOVE exploration and this is the first wow expac since WoD for me where I actually enjoyed roaming every corner of the map as I leveled. It felt really rewarding.
Same. I've intentionally not looked the locations up and just go do it if I feel like I need a change or an starting to burn thru quests without reading and experiencing them.
Agreed. I will not look them up, because when the message pops up in my chat that my dragon senses a glyph nearby, its sometimes really a chase and even maybe a guessing game or "problem solving" if its not in your view anywhere. Like "where could it be"? What would make "sense"? It is really a simple thing, but i plan to collect them all "organically" on the way. Of course, this is not to say whats better or not, the point is to do what is fun for you.
I love dragon flying, but am trying to not fall too in love with it since I'm sure it is going to feel bad in 2-3 years when it is yanked away from us, and we have the same issue we had with borrowed power being taken away every time we get a new expansion rather than being built onto.
2 years with dragonriding is gonna feel really bad if they take it away even if you dont love it. Use it, love it, and have fun with it while its here. We dont even know if there will be a next expansion yet.
been burned one too many times by WoW expac launches. blizz has a history of having expacs be extremely fun at launch only to botch it a few months in. gonna play it by ear and give it a few months before i make any decisions.
TONS of mounts share the same skeleton/rig as the 4 drakes. Most mounts have a soar and flap animation. I don't see why retroactively making certain older mounts work with dragonriding style flying wouldn't be possible. Some mounts make sense to hover still - mimirons head and engi copters for instance
That harpoon rare spawn thing is exactly why I disabled my "here is everything on the map, go collect it" addons for leveling my first character. It's made the experience way, way more fun.
Great tip on how to maintain vigor and dragonride efficiently. I also did vertical slaloms in the air until I noticed going as high as possible then gliding is the best way to traverse. Dragonriding really did add a sense of real world travel feel, great addition to the game.
Yea I discovered bis dragon flying by a misclick and I was like whaaat, it’s so simple it’s kinda weird, but I like that using it correctly rewards you, but the fact that surge forward is so much worse and barrel roll is only good if it’s a short distance and you won’t fly for a while is imho bad, I think surge forward should give a more long term speed boost while descending, and barrel roll should buff vigor regen rate while flying fast for 5 s to make it more usable. The world pvp dismounting is great, and personally I think mounting in mid-air with it costing 1 vigor would make WoW mounted pvp incredibly engaging
I would love the option to also have ordinary flying for the same exact reason that I suspect Blizzard doesn't want to give it to us - the one thing Dragonriding lacks: Hovering. If I need to urgently leave my PC for something and I'm outdoors I can simply fly into the air and go AFK and be somewhat relatively safe. I assume this is what Blizzard hates and possibly always has hated about (normal) flying. I'd gladly take a new Dragonriding ability that cost 1 vigor and let us "hover" but it would have to be "forever until you move" and not "for 30 seconds" or something that Blizzard would be way more likely to do.
I'm no WoW player, I followed Mike when he started playing FFXIV, but I'm happy that WoW has become fun again for him and all the other players that left. Also excited to watch a vid with Mike and Jeathe talking about FFXIV and catch some WoW world first! I have no idea what's going on but hey, if they're excited, I'm excited!
Love the new direction and hopefully going forward as you mentioned in previous video that the new blood coming in and the idea of having not just expansion chucks might actually make this fun to play again. I know I quite like the Dragon riding and the story so far. hope it continues that way and great content comes out of it all. What I still dislike is the way people just start hammering players because they choose a wrong skill or not geared correctly. I was in the Ruby Life Pools, and the dude just gave it to a guy after we wiped on the first boss because he didn't have skills in a tree that they thought was were they need to be. Then when we stood up for the guy after saying he was first time playing the game and was still learning, proceeded to give it to all of us. I get not all players are like that but from what I gather, the dev's put the talent trees in place to give players a way to test what works for them otherwise they would just give you spells depending on what you choose and had no talent tree. Spoke with them afterwards and gave them some tips and asked if they wanted to quest to see how things worked which they where happy and thankful for, but I sadly seen this several times. If they are using wrong skills or gear don't berate them just ask the question if they need some advice or tips if they refuse well no skin off your back. Just the shear rudeness to some players jeez. My rant done
Lets see if they are able to put a proper patch roadmap down the line before we overhype it again as every expac at the beginning. Only then we can tell if its worth to be called "a new beginning".
@@Mr91Jmay True! I keep seeing people saying SL got a lot of love at launch... Not what I remember at all lol. There was a whole #pulltheripcord movement trashing the systems.. and that criticism remained throughout the xpac. Also, there were media articles about how the SL launch trailer broke records in terms of its dislikes lol
The only thing I miss about not having ordinary flying in DF is the ability to just hover and idle. Be it for either camping something or if I'm flying around looking for something. Being able to just stop in my tracks and scan my surrounding.
yeah if they expanded the dragonriding skill tree to include a hover ability that also let you regenerate vigor, that would be icing on the dragonriding cake
I've always thought that people being able to hover safely out of reach of PvP and camping exactly locations high up in the sky was one of the main issues that made them decide to ground us from WoD onwards. And I personally railed on that by arguing that that only happened because they implemented the most braindead form of flying imaginable. By making dragon riding engaging, Blizzard wins with people exploring the zones through learning to fly and actually enjoying it instead of being forced through cramped, mob-infested misery on foot. Players win because they're not being sent through those mob-infested cesspools and get a fast form of travel that's impervious to verticality at the start. The hover-able, auto-run-able derpy flying will return as it always has; you'll just have to endure active flying for a bit instead of enduring travelling by foot through dumb amounts of mobs for that same period.
with how alt friendly the game seems to be right off the bat, do you think you'll start up TDP again? always enjoyed watching you pug into keys on all sorts of specs in legion
Everyone loves a expansion when it comes out, in its "honeymoon phase" so to speak. 3 months in, and you can give a accurate "review" of a MMO expansion, in my opinion
Idk I haven't got to Dragonflight itself yet. Made a new character after trying and failing to get into the game in BFA, but I enjoy the new talent tree stuff a lot, currently taking my time lvling through shadowlands. Which doesn't seem so bad tbh, but I do realize it got a ton of QoL stuff near the end. Looking forward to dragon stuff, heavensward was my fav FF expansion for a long time haha.
A lot of people are complaining about "lack of content" but that's just the bandaid coming off. It's nice not feeling like I have to play 12 hours a day to keep up on power.
For the dragon racing games, green drake is BiS. I was able to squeeze through many cracks and small opening between branches where my red drake would have gotten caught.
Outside of the dozen rare spawns (which will be outdated next week) there is next to no chore content for me by now. Slowly working my way through Loremaster etc and leveling my mains professions so far.
I got all my glyphs first too, dragon riding is the thing I didn't know I needed. OMG so much fun. I'm so happy with the changes so far, even looking through the quality/level of crafting patterns that some of my characters can make is the kind of thing they never should have taken out of the game. Not everyone has the time or ability to raid but they like to get gear, now they can do that again and not stress about raids.
Maybe conventional flying won’t die, but rather it’ll just be capped at 310% speed, with dragonriding becoming a core WoW feature in the future. I do hope there’s like a “training” that your old dragon-type mounts can undergo that will convert them into the dragonriding livery. Not every flying mount is rigged with the same animation sets so it will take time for the conversion to be implemented. The least we can ask for immediately is for dragonriding be made available in all zones.

1000% agree with the sentiment of scaling gear from rares and world content. It’s mega fun to explore and get into all the different parts of the map to try and get some upgrades. I wouldn’t want it to go up to like high end mythic plus or mythic gear, but they previously gave us bits of heroic level gear from like warfronts. I feel that these avenues of gear upgrades allows for a more accessible open door to raiding and M+ while still having a lot of the better gear come from that content. Like the 376 trinket I got from world content I’d trade in for a heart beat for one of the sweet effect ones from like Brackenhide hollow. The extra enchanting mats too is nothing I’ll sneeze at, that has been a tremendous help for the guild. I must say I am really enjoying DF.
The thing I really miss from regular flight is just hovering. Got to take a phone call or help the wife with something? Mount up and float above all danger. Now I have to look for a safe spot to land.
I feel like a lot of old mounts would probably be able to do dragonflying. The dragonflight mounts are using very common models for a lot of dragon mounts in the game already.
I was maybe half way through Azure when I hit 70 as well. Didn't finish story until the weekend, but I was also in no hurry and was enjoying leveling, actually reading quest (GASP) and just having fun.
Hey Preach, the only real argument I would have against letting people use normal flying in Dragon Isles is that it would be bad for War Mode. One of my favorite things about the new expansion so far has been the return of fun world PVP and the dragon-riding duels with using the corkscrew ability to dismount people and laugh as they fall to their death has certainly been a highlight! I think they should only allow regular flying with WM off. That would be one good solution in my opinion.
I'll still wait for what feels like an inevitable return to form for the WoW team, where they fuck up the game again. After BfA and Shadowlands, it doesn't feel like that's far away. And as an aside, I just cannot believe that their big expansion-selling feature makes hundreds of mounts obsolete. I don't really care that dragonriding doesn't fit with other mounts. The fact remains that they have let people collect hundreds of mounts over almost two decades, and now those mounts will just be shit for an entire expansion.

Still in the honeymoon phase of literally every WoW expansion, including BFA and Shadowlands. Need to be convinced of the lack of bullshit before Blizz gets any money from me, as good as DF seems to look right now.
I'm the odd man out I guess. Dragonflight is doing all sorts of really cool stuff, like emphasizing open world content for progression, fun events like the grand hunts that just pop up on occasion, interesting talent builds that can change how you play, and of course dragonriding. The thing is....all of these really cool "new" ideas were taken directly from Guild Wars 2, and GW2 still does them better. WoW is definitely better for having these in it, but I think this expansion has more than anything just reminded me what game I ought to be playing.
And honestly this is the best part IMO. A game seeing what it's competition is doing that people enjoy and doing their own iteration of it. Just like when FFXIV 1.0 came out. It was garbo (however I did like the way gathering perfessions were more then what it is currently) but they went to the drawing board and took inspiration from its competition WoW and EQ and now people are hailing it as one of the best MMOs of all time. WoW has been stuck in its rut for a very long time. Hopefully this is just a piece of more to come... or even maybe a complete redesign for WoW 2.0.
Glad people are having fun, but I still don't trust the longevity of the product, especially this being hard honeymoon phase. I hope it continues to be a quality product, but it just might not be something I come back to anymore until real change is present.
Completely agree you should be able to do both, I think adding it as a 10.0.5 feature would be best. The fact that they are still giving out normal flying mounts when we can't use them is silly, just open them up. Most people will still dragonflight because it is just a superior travel mode in most situations.
Personal opinion, don’t use any addons to help you find stuff on your first character until you atleast hit max. If there’s ever been an expansion to not promote addons it’s this one.
They need to have a hover ability for the Dragon flying. It is nice to be able to hover over an area while you decide where to land. Would be awesome to be able to hover.

I absolutely love dragonflying for what it is, but nothing beats being able to hover in place on my stormdrake while I wait for a rare to spawn.

I remember absolutely grinding for my Onyx Cloud Serpent. Can't wait to take her into proper flight whenever more mounts get the flight mechanic.
I think it would be kinda cool if you could enable/disable dragonriding on certain mounts. Say Blizz decide to add dragonriding to every single dragon mount in the game. It would be amazing, but its not for everyone, so let people disable it on the mounts if they don't want it.
@@TheDaxter11 I also think it would look silly on some mounts. Some people would say who cares, let be people have fun with it if they want to, but for me there is like a turn-off point like in FFXIV where they just let everything float around and it just looks really goofy and kind of like... like its just random stuff thrown together. Dunno, cant really explain it.
@@stylishskater92 I get that, but in FF14's defence, as much as I wish it weren't the case, they make their dungeons EXTREMELY linear. WoW has multiple dungeons and raids where you can hop on your mounts and run from point A to B, and you have alts to level and unlock flying on, so mounts that can't fly are fine cause you'll still use the ground only ones here and there.
In FF14 the only account bound unlockables are store bought, (not all store bought ones though which is fucking stupid but regardless) and with being able to play all classes on one character there aren't as many reason to make an alt, and with all dungeons and raids being linear and not designed more openly with mounting available, if you make ground-only mounts no one's gonna use em cause once you unlock flying there's no point.
As for dragon riding looking silly on some mounts, I can't think of any dragon mounts that it would look silly on because apart from the wyrm/pandaren dragon models I think Blizz made each type of dragon in the game as a mount with dragon riding on it with animations that work. Unless you mean non-dragon mounts, but they might do different movement mechanics, like in GW2.

I want to be able to use old flying mounts. Not because I necessarily prefer them most of the time, but because I can point a direction and go take a piss, or to fill out the gaps in vigor when gathering and _doing a lot of short hops,_ or just to hover in the air waiting for rares.

I went and collected all the dragon glyphs specifically without handy notes because I LOVE exploration and this is the first wow expac since WoD for me where I actually enjoyed roaming every corner of the map as I leveled. It felt really rewarding.
Same. I've intentionally not looked the locations up and just go do it if I feel like I need a change or an starting to burn thru quests without reading and experiencing them.

Agreed. I will not look them up, because when the message pops up in my chat that my dragon senses a glyph nearby, its sometimes really a chase and even maybe a guessing game or "problem solving" if its not in your view anywhere. Like "where could it be"? What would make "sense"? It is really a simple thing, but i plan to collect them all "organically" on the way. Of course, this is not to say whats better or not, the point is to do what is fun for you.

I love dragon flying, but am trying to not fall too in love with it since I'm sure it is going to feel bad in 2-3 years when it is yanked away from us, and we have the same issue we had with borrowed power being taken away every time we get a new expansion rather than being built onto.
2 years with dragonriding is gonna feel really bad if they take it away even if you dont love it.
Use it, love it, and have fun with it while its here. We dont even know if there will be a next expansion yet.
12:25 - Normal flying = bots farming nodes. Atm they are tricky to get to with only dragon flying which is good.
been burned one too many times by WoW expac launches. blizz has a history of having expacs be extremely fun at launch only to botch it a few months in. gonna play it by ear and give it a few months before i make any decisions.
Don't waste your time or money
TONS of mounts share the same skeleton/rig as the 4 drakes. Most mounts have a soar and flap animation. I don't see why retroactively making certain older mounts work with dragonriding style flying wouldn't be possible.
Some mounts make sense to hover still - mimirons head and engi copters for instance
That harpoon rare spawn thing is exactly why I disabled my "here is everything on the map, go collect it" addons for leveling my first character. It's made the experience way, way more fun.

Great tip on how to maintain vigor and dragonride efficiently. I also did vertical slaloms in the air until I noticed going as high as possible then gliding is the best way to traverse. Dragonriding really did add a sense of real world travel feel, great addition to the game.
Spamming the 2nd ability straight up doesn't give me nearly as much hight as Preach shows in this video. Not sure if they've nerfed it or something.
I got handynotes glyph finder - got all glyphs straight up, was def worth and the one thing I recommend to any person starting out in dragon flight :)
I agree that dragon flying is amazing. It should be a priority to make it available everywhere and enabling it for some older mounts.

Yea I discovered bis dragon flying by a misclick and I was like whaaat, it’s so simple it’s kinda weird, but I like that using it correctly rewards you, but the fact that surge forward is so much worse and barrel roll is only good if it’s a short distance and you won’t fly for a while is imho bad, I think surge forward should give a more long term speed boost while descending, and barrel roll should buff vigor regen rate while flying fast for 5 s to make it more usable.
The world pvp dismounting is great, and personally I think mounting in mid-air with it costing 1 vigor would make WoW mounted pvp incredibly engaging
I would love the option to also have ordinary flying for the same exact reason that I suspect Blizzard doesn't want to give it to us - the one thing Dragonriding lacks: Hovering. If I need to urgently leave my PC for something and I'm outdoors I can simply fly into the air and go AFK and be somewhat relatively safe. I assume this is what Blizzard hates and possibly always has hated about (normal) flying. I'd gladly take a new Dragonriding ability that cost 1 vigor and let us "hover" but it would have to be "forever until you move" and not "for 30 seconds" or something that Blizzard would be way more likely to do.
I'm no WoW player, I followed Mike when he started playing FFXIV, but I'm happy that WoW has become fun again for him and all the other players that left.

Love the new direction and hopefully going forward as you mentioned in previous video that the new blood coming in and the idea of having not just expansion chucks might actually make this fun to play again. I know I quite like the Dragon riding and the story so far. hope it continues that way and great content comes out of it all.
What I still dislike is the way people just start hammering players because they choose a wrong skill or not geared correctly.
I was in the Ruby Life Pools, and the dude just gave it to a guy after we wiped on the first boss because he didn't have skills in a tree that they thought was were they need to be.
Then when we stood up for the guy after saying he was first time playing the game and was still learning, proceeded to give it to all of us. I get not all players are like that but from what I gather, the dev's put the talent trees in place to give players a way to test what works for them otherwise they would just give you spells depending on what you choose and had no talent tree.
Spoke with them afterwards and gave them some tips and asked if they wanted to quest to see how things worked which they where happy and thankful for, but I sadly seen this several times. If they are using wrong skills or gear don't berate them just ask the question if they need some advice or tips if they refuse well no skin off your back. Just the shear rudeness to some players jeez.

There was a whole #pulltheripcord movement trashing the systems.. and that criticism remained throughout the xpac. Also, there were media articles about how the SL launch trailer broke records in terms of its dislikes lol

The only thing I miss about not having ordinary flying in DF is the ability to just hover and idle. Be it for either camping something or if I'm flying around looking for something. Being able to just stop in my tracks and scan my surrounding.
yeah if they expanded the dragonriding skill tree to include a hover ability that also let you regenerate vigor, that would be icing on the dragonriding cake
im pretty sure hovering will come later. they know we want it.
I've always thought that people being able to hover safely out of reach of PvP and camping exactly locations high up in the sky was one of the main issues that made them decide to ground us from WoD onwards. And I personally railed on that by arguing that that only happened because they implemented the most braindead form of flying imaginable. By making dragon riding engaging, Blizzard wins with people exploring the zones through learning to fly and actually enjoying it instead of being forced through cramped, mob-infested misery on foot. Players win because they're not being sent through those mob-infested cesspools and get a fast form of travel that's impervious to verticality at the start. The hover-able, auto-run-able derpy flying will return as it always has; you'll just have to endure active flying for a bit instead of enduring travelling by foot through dumb amounts of mobs for that same period.
with how alt friendly the game seems to be right off the bat, do you think you'll start up TDP again? always enjoyed watching you pug into keys on all sorts of specs in legion

Idk I haven't got to Dragonflight itself yet. Made a new character after trying and failing to get into the game in BFA, but I enjoy the new talent tree stuff a lot, currently taking my time lvling through shadowlands. Which doesn't seem so bad tbh, but I do realize it got a ton of QoL stuff near the end. Looking forward to dragon stuff, heavensward was my fav FF expansion for a long time haha.
Leveling was never the issue in Shadowlands. I would even say it's by far the best aspect of the expansion. It's everything after that people despise

A lot of people are complaining about "lack of content" but that's just the bandaid coming off. It's nice not feeling like I have to play 12 hours a day to keep up on power.
For the dragon racing games, green drake is BiS. I was able to squeeze through many cracks and small opening between branches where my red drake would have gotten caught.
Wait, is the hitbox actually smaller? I just prefer Green because it's easier to see what's ahead of you.

Outside of the dozen rare spawns (which will be outdated next week) there is next to no chore content for me by now.
Slowly working my way through Loremaster etc and leveling my mains professions so far.

I had no intention of rushing to max level, but I still managed to hit 70 in under 3 days without feeling like I was trying. It was so great.
I got all my glyphs first too, dragon riding is the thing I didn't know I needed. OMG so much fun. I'm so happy with the changes so far, even looking through the quality/level of crafting patterns that some of my characters can make is the kind of thing they never should have taken out of the game. Not everyone has the time or ability to raid but they like to get gear, now they can do that again and not stress about raids.
Maybe conventional flying won’t die, but rather it’ll just be capped at 310% speed, with dragonriding becoming a core WoW feature in the future. I do hope there’s like a “training” that your old dragon-type mounts can undergo that will convert them into the dragonriding livery. Not every flying mount is rigged with the same animation sets so it will take time for the conversion to be implemented. The least we can ask for immediately is for dragonriding be made available in all zones.

1000% agree with the sentiment of scaling gear from rares and world content. It’s mega fun to explore and get into all the different parts of the map to try and get some upgrades. I wouldn’t want it to go up to like high end mythic plus or mythic gear, but they previously gave us bits of heroic level gear from like warfronts. I feel that these avenues of gear upgrades allows for a more accessible open door to raiding and M+ while still having a lot of the better gear come from that content. Like the 376 trinket I got from world content I’d trade in for a heart beat for one of the sweet effect ones from like Brackenhide hollow. The extra enchanting mats too is nothing I’ll sneeze at, that has been a tremendous help for the guild. I must say I am really enjoying DF.
It is so fun to watch Mike talking good things about WoW again.
The thing I really miss from regular flight is just hovering. Got to take a phone call or help the wife with something? Mount up and float above all danger. Now I have to look for a safe spot to land.

I feel like a lot of old mounts would probably be able to do dragonflying. The dragonflight mounts are using very common models for a lot of dragon mounts in the game already.
I was maybe half way through Azure when I hit 70 as well. Didn't finish story until the weekend, but I was also in no hurry and was enjoying leveling, actually reading quest (GASP) and just having fun.
Hey Preach, the only real argument I would have against letting people use normal flying in Dragon Isles is that it would be bad for War Mode. One of my favorite things about the new expansion so far has been the return of fun world PVP and the dragon-riding duels with using the corkscrew ability to dismount people and laugh as they fall to their death has certainly been a highlight! I think they should only allow regular flying with WM off. That would be one good solution in my opinion.

I'll still wait for what feels like an inevitable return to form for the WoW team, where they fuck up the game again. After BfA and Shadowlands, it doesn't feel like that's far away.
And as an aside, I just cannot believe that their big expansion-selling feature makes hundreds of mounts obsolete. I don't really care that dragonriding doesn't fit with other mounts. The fact remains that they have let people collect hundreds of mounts over almost two decades, and now those mounts will just be shit for an entire expansion.

Still in the honeymoon phase of literally every WoW expansion, including BFA and Shadowlands. Need to be convinced of the lack of bullshit before Blizz gets any money from me, as good as DF seems to look right now.
I'm the odd man out I guess. Dragonflight is doing all sorts of really cool stuff, like emphasizing open world content for progression, fun events like the grand hunts that just pop up on occasion, interesting talent builds that can change how you play, and of course dragonriding. The thing is....all of these really cool "new" ideas were taken directly from Guild Wars 2, and GW2 still does them better. WoW is definitely better for having these in it, but I think this expansion has more than anything just reminded me what game I ought to be playing.
And honestly this is the best part IMO. A game seeing what it's competition is doing that people enjoy and doing their own iteration of it. Just like when FFXIV 1.0 came out. It was garbo (however I did like the way gathering perfessions were more then what it is currently) but they went to the drawing board and took inspiration from its competition WoW and EQ and now people are hailing it as one of the best MMOs of all time. WoW has been stuck in its rut for a very long time. Hopefully this is just a piece of more to come... or even maybe a complete redesign for WoW 2.0.

Dragon flying for picking herbs and ore is a pain to land on, you move so fast especially with the lag.
Glad people are having fun, but I still don't trust the longevity of the product, especially this being hard honeymoon phase. I hope it continues to be a quality product, but it just might not be something I come back to anymore until real change is present.

Completely agree you should be able to do both, I think adding it as a 10.0.5 feature would be best. The fact that they are still giving out normal flying mounts when we can't use them is silly, just open them up. Most people will still dragonflight because it is just a superior travel mode in most situations.
Personal opinion, don’t use any addons to help you find stuff on your first character until you atleast hit max. If there’s ever been an expansion to not promote addons it’s this one.
They need to have a hover ability for the Dragon flying. It is nice to be able to hover over an area while you decide where to land. Would be awesome to be able to hover.
