I always describe it as a Schwarzenegger vehicle movie because it was basically written for him, so absurd and fun. @@lawrencekassab1226 what makes Commando The one for me is the simple fact that he carries the biggest log for no reason in the beginning. But yeah....hard to say which one is better.
"Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?" "That's right, Matrix! You did!" "I lied." (Sully Screams "Oh La La!") "What happened to Sully?" "I let him go." Fun Fact: The shopping mall (Sherman Oaks Galleria) used is the same one that was used in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since both films wrapped, the mall has been remodeled. Bonus Fact: Martial arts expert and fight choreographer Michael M. Vendrell worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the film, and, by the end of production, Vendrell estimated that Schwarzenegger had become a second degree black belt.
The book “Nothing Lasts Forever” was rewritten into a screenplay for Commando 2, but Arnold wasn’t interested. After he turned it down, that script was rewritten again into what would become Die Hard.
Dang you beat me to it She’s also the person who discovered Chris Pratt working in a restaurant in Hawaii. She hired him for a short film she was directing
As you said in the intro: "I'm excited to see him in action, and I want to hear more of his one-liners". Well, this movie certainly won't disappoint you! 😆
Alyssa was actually more popular in the 80s as a kid than she was later on during the Charmed era, primarily for starring in the very popular 80's sitcom "Who's The Boss" (link to it below) m.ua-cam.com/video/zkD9wzrrhiA/v-deo.html
Movies like these with Arnold and Stallone are why Die Hard with Bruce Willis was such a shocking choice for a hero. John McClane took a lot of damage fighting against about 12 men while Arnold and Sly blasted their way solo through armies almost unscratched.
"The Running Man" (1987) and "Total Recall" (1990) are two of Arnold's other great films which you definitely have to react to. This film is one of my favorite of his yet other people didn't care for it. And you should also watch a young Bill Duke in the hit comedy "Car Wash". The soundtrack to the film is fantastic. Oh, you'll also see a cameo of a young Richard Pryor who does a skit with the fabulous Pointer Sisters! 🎥❤
Commando, one of the greatest movies ever made. Powerful, masculine, testosterone everywhere, a time where there was no LGBQT or woke agendas. I miss the old days of movies, this flick will forever live in my heart.
This was released the same year as Rambo: First Blood Part 2 and Rocky IV. This and Raw Deal preceded Predator. Earlier Arnold films I recommend are Pumping Iron and Conan the Barbarian. This and Red Sonja were the immediate follow-ups to The Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone had a big rivalry, which reached its highest point during the 80's
SO glad you did this one. It has a HUGE influence in my childhood and one of my favorite movies ever. On AVGN Rental Reviews they had a vintage toy still in it's package and it was just the log that Arnie is carrying at the beginning of the movie. By itself. Just the log.
What was an interesting fact to find out is that Rae Dawn Chong is the daughter of the great comedian and actor Tommy Chong. She was in her Dad's movie the Corsican Brothers and in The Color Purple. Sylvester Stallone hated Arnie during the 80's always coming out with movies that were in conflict with his. Later became friends and worked together in the movie series The Expendables.
I used to watch this movie with my parents and siblings every day. We could quote every single line. You are going to love so many of his films. Loved your reaction. You are great! Very genuine and most importantly having fun with your self and the content!
Another overlooked Arnold movie with action is "Raw Deal." He enters the Mafia world. And another is "Red Heat." Both made back in the fun-not-to-serious times of action movies.
11:51 - The lack of seatbelts is what got you? Just wait. "Commando" is the most 80's movie to ever 80's. Much of your reaction proves the above statement. This movie was destructive nonsense, and we loved it! Arnie running around, killing everything with legs, and him not getting hit once. NOT ONCE! Glad you enjoyed it.
What do you mean not getting hit once. He gets captured in the beginning. Has a good fight with Cook. He gets grenade shrapnel in his side, he gets shot in the arm, he gets sliced up with a knife... He certainly does get hit.
This is a great 80s action flick. No complicated storylines, no deep meaningful monologues. Just Arnie mowing down the bad guys! And you’re right, the female characters in the movie kicked ass.
This movie is pure entertainment! 💥🤘🏻 And if you want a smart character in a action movie, watch the Bourne Trilogy, starting with the Bourne Identity (2002)! 👌🏼✌🏼
Love your reaction! Commando, absolutely bonkers but always a fun time to blast on a sound system as Arnie mows down a ton of bad guys! A great way to end or start the week off with films! ;)
So glad you really liked this film,NOX !!! It's a true CLASSIC !!! LOVED your reactions too.I've seen this movie countless times, never get tired of watching it,EVER. LOL.
I love '80s action films. Arnie jumps off a jetliner as it's taking off (average speed between 150-200mph) then jumps right up and runs back to the airport terminal. Then he crashes an Alpine into a telephone (or power) pole, with no seatbelt on, and immediately hops out to go after Sully. I'm already exhausted and he hasn't finished half the film yet! ;-)
Glad you loved it! It’s probably my favorite action movie, and is the Arnie film I can watch again and again. There was no sequel, but there’s a proposed screenplay for one that was never produced (you can find it online).
This was vintage 80's Schwarzenegger: big muscles, big guns, big one liners, Arnie would ride this act all the way to being the dominant action star of the 80's and beyond...
Fun little trivia: The island estate at the end where the battle takes place was actually the Harold Lloyd's home in Beverly Hills (who had died the prior decade).
Commando is one of those movies that is crazy entertaining every time you watch it. The editing errors are like accidental easter eggs waiting to be noticed. Like Sully's yellow Porsche being completely okay when Matrix drives off in it. Another really neat thing is that Rae Dawn Chong " Cindy" is Tommy Chong's Daughter. If you really want to see Arnold's best movie hands down, you must watch Last Action Hero if you haven't seen it. Thanks again for another spot on movie selection to you and your crew.
One of Arnold's greatest ever one-liners is in the 1986 cinematic triumph, "Raw Deal." Nobody remembers it when they think of Arnold's greatest hits, but it's better than "Ged to da chobba," "Led off some steam, Bennett," "Pud dad coogie down!", Consideu dad a divoace," "I need yeu cloze, yeu boodz, and yeu modazygle," and all the others. I won't tell you what it is, because I wouldn't want to spoil it, but the scene involves a cake. You're welcome!
Best part when he throws that saw blade nunchucks style into that dude's head.... Holy shite I got in a lot of trouble as a kid having recently seen this movie and after ended immediately went out and threw saw blades(varying degrees of effective/ badass-'ness
Arius (the South American dictator) is played by Dan Hedaya. He's been in some pretty good movies himself. He also played 'Tully Alford' in The Addams Family (1991)
I remember first watching this movie when it premiered on HBO in the late 80s. My absolute favorite part was when he broke dude's neck on the airplane and then tells the flight attendant, "Please don't disturb my friend. HE'S DEAD TIRED!" Classic Arnie.
I'm a 35 year old guy, and my love of movies pretty much started with Terminator 1&2, when I was just a little kid. And I watched most Arnold movies over the course of my life, but for some reason I only got to Commando a couple of years ago, and afterwards I was like, "Why didn't I watch this sooner?" It's so amazing and over the top, I feel like Arnold as John Matrix in this movie was more dangerous than in any other movie, even including as the Terminator. I'm very happy it was this entertaining to you, this is very much a quintessential action movie. If you ever start reacting to Jackie Chan movies, I can only recommend Police Story, it's my favorite action movie and similarly creative as Commando, in ways (so much that a handful of Hollywood action movies directly ripped scenes off). And as far as Arnie goes, I'd recommend True Lies, I guarantee you will have a good time, I actually watched that one in the theater as a kid.
This movie is so hilarious, it's a guilty pleasure. Years ago me and my younger brother watched this, and he was probably too young to be honest, and the end where he killed 50 dude's single handed was bar none the funniest thing we ever watched up until then. I'm surprised he didn't just pick up some bullets off the ground or a crate and threw them at some of those guys, killing them how easy they were getting dropped, Lmao. The part in the guns store I was waiting for Arnie to say "Weeeee are nahht paying fah enee of thissssssss"
One Arnold film that I feel is very underrated is "End of Days" it scared the shit out of me when I was younger. Probably the most "darkest" film he has done and its not that typical "heroic fun" that he has done so much already.
When the bad guy sat down in Arnold's home explaining how he must cooperate, right? and Arnold says, WRONG. And blows him away reminds me of the first Terminator movie at the gun shop and the salesman says you can't do that and Arnold says WRONG and blows him away. Bottom line, DON'T presume to tell Arnold what to do! Lol. -OG
Loved Rae Dawn Chong in this. One of her best roles. Softened up all the macho (non-acting) Arnold nonsense with a fine comedic touch. (But of course there was no romance allowed between them, even though she was a total doll and a great sport.)
Great movie. You should see other great Arnold movies like Conan The Barbarian (Epic Movie with an Epic Soundtrack and was Arnold Breakout role), Total Recall, End Of Days, The Sixth Day, Collateral Damage, Last action hero
Commando is perfect. 90 minutes and not a single second wasted. Absolutely awesome. Unapologetic machismo and 80's cheese. I've loved it since it was a Saturday afternoon movie when I was a kid....and I don't care how many times I see it, it's always a fun.
This one never gets old for me. Action packed as Arnold can get. I loved your reaction AJ. Your quips are too adorable as always 😍. If you haven't already, I can't wait for you to react to Twins. Easily one of Arnold's funniest movies. Take care
9:24 "I'm John Matrix. I need a place to sit. Of course I _also_ have an irrational need to demonstrate just how _strong_ I am, so I'm going to tear the _seat_ out of this car for no particular reason and then I'm going to sit where it _was."_
10:46 "I'm John Matrix. I have the build of a bodybuilder. Of course I also have the _training_ of an elite _commando,_ yet I couldn't've found a better way to _handle_ this than to wait for the guy I'm targeting to get into this _phone_ booth and then tear the phone booth out of the _wall_ because I need to show off how _strong_ I am."
12:02 "I'm John Matrix. I have the build of a bodybuilder. I also have the training of an elite _commando,_ but elite commandoes don't interrogate people by holding up a _single individual_ with just one of their _arms._ This is something a _bodybuilder_ would do. Ja."
Cool! Arnie- "I eat green beret for breakfast" green beret- Rambo (Stallone) This came out the same time Stallones' Rambo series came out. They had their competition. It was awesome!
The actress in Commando is Rae Dawn Chong. Her father is Tommy Chong of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Tommy Chong is half white/half Chinese. Rae Dawn Chong’s mother is black which explains her exotic look.
Nice reactions to this film, Eidig!🎬👏🏽Rae Dawn Chong was pretty popular in film in the 80's. Alyssa Milano had just started starring in the TV sitcom "Who's the Boss" with Tony Danza the year before this came out. That would have been before your time.
That fight scene at the end was brutal! I can’t imagine getting smashed with a hot pole then choked by the vault of fire. Oh not to mention rope swinging off a balcony like Tarzan!
There was a deleted scene where Schwarzenegger and Rae Dong Chong's character have "intimate relations" but was removed because of timing or whatever they call it. There was a script and a budget for Commando 2 but Schwarzenegger didn't do it cuz he didn't want to do sequels after Conan the Destroyer so it became Die Hard. And there's a reference to Arnold in that movie.
The only two realistic parts of this movie are when Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong) tells the security guard in the mall she's been kidnapped... And when the police show up at the surplus store. Everything else is Hollywood. And I love this film!
Don't "get to da choppa" and instead "stick around" for another awesome Arnold Schwarzenegger movie reaction. It'll make you a "G.D. sexual tyrannosaurus," just like Jessie "The Body" Ventura. 😁
I always considered this one a hidden gem. Most people haven't seen it but once they do they really like it. The stewardess girl is the daughter of Chong from Cheech and Chong
This is one of Arnie's best. Arnold Musclehogger can do no wrong in my eyes I love all of his movies. Except for junior. He is my patron saint of shooting shit.
I just like to say that you should watch the Arnie movie 'Eraser' from the 90's. It was one of the last true hardcore action movies done by Arnie, and in general. For some reason not many reactors have watched it, but its a really good film. It also has one of his best one liners ever lol. Dont know if its already on your list but just letting you know.
1652 - MOST ONSCREEN DEATHS? - During the 1980s, Stallone and Swarzenegger's movie rivalry became newsworthy. When Commando was released, it was said to have the most on-screen deaths. Before Swarzenegger's, Commando, Sylvester Stallone's last movie held the record for the most on-screen deaths.
I saw that one late, not as a kid.. Could not stand it the first time (doing service and was "sensitive" to Hollywood BS), but now I love it. It is so fun and over the top. ^^ Arnold is the guy..
Collateral Damage was intense. Due to the films content, the movie release was pushed back a couple of months because of 9/11. This is one of my A.S. favorites.
The Sunbeam Alpine was 2 seater last produced in 1968 and only required lap belts . These cars came with chromed steel bumpers not the plastic shit they use now.
Commando 2 was actually Die Hard. The script was offered to Arnold in late 1986 for a shoot in 1987 but he declined it an opted for Predator instead. Commando 2 went through a rewrite and was offered instead to Bruce Willis as Die Hard. John Mctiernan ended up directing both Predator and Die Hard.
80's cheese is the best. I knew you were going to love all of the one liners. Lol. Great review as always. You will eventually find the Austa-La-Vista line eventually. It's in one of his most iconic films. Think of it as an easter egg hunt. A clue... you haven't missed it in anything you have seen so far if that helps. 🤣
I live this movie. Are you ready for some fun facts? Hell yes a real tree at the beginning. The guy who played Bennett was a recast the reason for the little vest it was the remaining part of the the original actors costume. Guess what, there was a love scene filmed, but they said it just looked awkward lol. Was there a Commando 2? Well yes and no, Arnold decided he didn't wanna do it so they reworked it and it became DIE HARD, and that's an awesome movie that I don't know if u watched it yet, but it's an awesome Christmas movie.
This is the most "80's" Schwarzenegger movie, it has the biggest body-count with the cheesiest one-liners and a hero who's ironically more indestructible than the indestructible robot from the Terminator. It's utterly ridiculous and thoroughly entertaining.
I really enjoy this movie, though at times I am not sure if it is the 80's action movie or a parody of it. My personal favourites are Conan, Kindergarten Cop, True Lies, Predator, and the Last Action Hero, but there is a lot of other great Arnies movies I love.

A proper bonkers ridiculous movie. The way we love em! My mate and I have been quoting this film with big grins for decades XD
Ja."
13:22 "I'm John Matrix and I do not need a bolt cutter."
@@lazyperfectionist1 What do you mean "tear the seat out for no particular reason" ?
Cool!
Arnie- "I eat green beret for breakfast"
green beret- Rambo (Stallone)
This came out the same time Stallones' Rambo series came out. They had their competition. It was awesome!
"Hasta la vista, baby" is in "Terminator 2."
When electricity charges you up, gives you a second wind 😄
The actress in Commando is Rae Dawn Chong. Her father is Tommy Chong of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong. Tommy Chong is half white/half Chinese. Rae Dawn Chong’s mother is black which explains her exotic look.
Nice reactions to this film, Eidig!🎬👏🏽Rae Dawn Chong was pretty popular in film in the 80's. Alyssa Milano had just started starring in the TV sitcom "Who's the Boss" with Tony Danza the year before this came out. That would have been before your time.
Schwarzenegger in his finest low budget cult classic.
Stuntmen sure made their living before CGI effects I tell ya!
Awesome to see Schwarzenegger movies on here, love your reactions.
The joy you get is so entertaining. Lol
"Let off some steam Bennett" lmao 🤣 i say that to much haha
Just found your channel, you're great easy sub, cheers.
Let off some steam Bennett. My favorite line.
This flick is every 80s action cliche thrown into a blender. That’s its charm.
Well done, again :) That intro song is very nice and worth listening to. It is on UA-cam somewhere. Take care.
And Conan the Barbarian is a must watch, along with a bodybuilding documentary, Pumping Iron. U will get Arnold personality insights!
Check out Arnold's most underrated movie, it's called Raw Deal!
Let off some steam, Bennett!!
16:04 - Yes, Girl, YES!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hasta la vista baby is from Terminator 2
You could be in this movie. You seem like the Rae Dawn Chong (Tommy Chong’s Daughter) character.
This is the most "80's" Schwarzenegger movie, it has the biggest body-count with the cheesiest one-liners and a hero who's ironically more indestructible than the indestructible robot from the Terminator.
It's utterly ridiculous and thoroughly entertaining.
Tell me about it! Those terrorists couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a baseball bat. 😂😂😂
That’s true! I like he rope swings like Tarzan from the top of the building and doesn’t even get a scratch.
I really enjoy this movie, though at times I am not sure if it is the 80's action movie or a parody of it. My personal favourites are Conan, Kindergarten Cop, True Lies, Predator, and the Last Action Hero, but there is a lot of other great Arnies movies I love.
