      @@marcus.b6057 Trainer here. I can tell you no human is able to perfom this well even with steroids. In strength competing its easier to cheat with drugs, but in marathon running these things doesn´t apply. The best way to improve performance in cardio is with more red blood cells who carry oxygen to the muscles. You simply inject more blood in the system and the body keeps the red blood cells, so theres a higher concentration of them while competing. Moving to Kipchoge, he trained his whole life 2500m above sea level, he has more red blood cells than any of us due to the fact that his body produces more blood cells when oxygen concentration is low. Even if he is doping right now theres not much to gain or even nothing. "Vou can´t dope Eliud, because he´s already the greatest"

      Doha is terrible for runners! All athletes are complaining, especially marathoners! The food for marathoners was terrible, with no pasta, no hot water. Sponsors decided that start at midnight would solve hot and humidity problems and went to sleep, while women marathoners struggled from dehydration and couldn't breathe at these conditions (temp was 90F and 70% of humidity). Only 40 out of 70 athletes could cross the finish line, 30 athletes fell down in the course of the race!

I wasn't a track guy in high school, but could run 3 miles in under 18 minutes. But there is no way in hell I could have kept that pace for 26 miles. It took Kipchoge many years to get under 3 hours, and then it took many more years to get close to the 2 hour mark. Even still, Kipchoge has a team of rabbits helping him.

    Why was his Olympic marathon time much worse than his other marathon times?

    • @TotalRunningProductions
      @TotalRunningProductions  5 років тому +22

      My guess would be because the Olympics don't have pacers to go out fast in the beginning. As it was very much an early tactical affair, the overall time wasn't quite as impressive.

    • @rationalpi6755
      @rationalpi6755 5 років тому +16

      Olympic marathons' courses are not well established. There is no pacers during the race, bad season for running (the marathon in Rio happened in summer if I remember whereas if you look at his Berlin races, it happens in late fall early winter which is good for running as weather is not hot, a lot of sharp turns which takes away a lot of your time, and some other factors (not sure if you can have your own drink in the Olympic marathons, for private sponsored marathons, you are allowed to have your own drink).

    If past performance is a good indicator, then his improvement of the London marathon (2019 vs 2018) is the gap that we shall expect to be the improvement on Breaking2. 2:00:25. Eliud ran 1:40 faster in London, year on year. Which projects a 1:58:45. Lets say that he is able to retain 1 min of the London improvement, it is still 1:59:25.
