    I run the Rotterdam Marathon each year since the early 2010s, and it's possible for another WR and maybe even the sub 2 conditions, if the weather conditions are good.
    A couple of smaller hills, but nothing too huge, and the corresponding downhills might also help a little. It's actually flatter than London, overall.
    I'm signed up to next year's race, so looking forward to hopefully following in his wake 🤞

    Big thanks to the channel operator for giving a proper and accurate explanation of why the Ineos Challenge was not a comparable marathon event, and therefore EK has not 'run a sub 2 hour marathon'. He is a truly outstanding athlete, but he hasn't done that. It's a bit brutal how the focus of the stage light has so suddenly switched to KK, who indeed looks the best bet to really run sub 2 hours in a competitive marathon; they just need to tweak the shoes a bit more....

      @@MTBEAST007 That's not really a fair comparison, because I can do that thousands of times until eventually I am almost bound to beat what I thought was my best. I don't see why he couldn't break it. He's so young. Marathon runners tend to peak between 32 - 36 years of age. That means kiptum isn't anywhere close to his peak. And he's only 35 secods away from it now. I mean people were Astonished when Kipchoge ran 2:01:39, but then he later runs 2:01:09. Thats 30 secods. Kiptum will run under 2 hours. I consider myself a fairly decent runner. I did a 39 minute 10k recently which I was stoked about. But to think even at my level I could only be one of the pacer runners for a maximum of 1 kilometre 😅. These guys are freaks to say the least

    I like how people are so quick to jump to someone as a new GOAT but to me he has to a few majors in a row at below 2:04 and be consistent for me to see him as legit. Right now, I get imposter feels from him for some reason. I wish him the best and hope he cements his performance over actual big marathons against actual competition like Kipchoge did.

      The course is fully sheltered by appartment buildings, trees and spectators. Crossing the bridge twice, a few hudred metres of cobblestones and two 180 degree turns are the only obstacles. This course generated multiple world records in the past. Is is well possible!

    Thoughts & Comments? No pacers, then see what a top athlete can do. I see this "milking for time" pacer idea as just one more way to do what other athletes can't afford to do: hiring help. Yes, I'm old fashioned fan with view back to the Zatopek and Nurmi days.

    • @alexanderSydneyOz
      @alexanderSydneyOz 7 місяців тому +1

      Completely agree. Just one of the many ways times have come down, and making it impossible to compare an athlete today, to one from a decade ago.
      When one factors in hired help, dieticians, improved training regimes, more money so no need to work to feed the family, *shoes*, indoor track materials, pacers, pacer lights, who would know whether the "GOAT" was a runner from 30 years ago or the person who won last week?
      On the positive side, continual new records maintain interest in these sports, and are exciting.

      @@evanskandie8475 For 2024, the Olympics are in August. Berlin is in September. Chicago is in October. There is not enough time to recover and get in a full training schedule. Berlin is out and Chicago would be extremely doubtful. Valencia makes sense at the end of 2024.
      In 2025, one spring and one fall marathon could be scheduled. He could do the popular London-Chicago combination like Kiptum and Seifan Hassan did in 2023. Or he could do Rotterdam and Berlin in 2025.

    Kelvin should run Vienna (exact same course as Eliud, 10/12/2019), which is ACCURATE.
    Vienna's measured route = running route.
    PERSONAL distance run was ACCURATE at Vienna.
    PERSONAL distance run on any IAAF course is LONGER than the measured length,
    and the measured length (on the shortest possible route) is 42m longer than 42195m.
    Vienna is accurate. IAAF is a game.

    I know it's een weird conspiracy but the NN Rotterdam Marathon is this year sponsored by Asics. Every year there was a big Asics atlete like Bashir Abdi. So maybe Kiptum is moving from Nike to Asics and this announcement is just the beginning. Because i (from The Netherlands) don't understand why he would choose this marathon.

    • @maarten8238
      @maarten8238 7 місяців тому

      In the Volkskrant there was an article yesterday that mentioned two reasons. Firstly, Kiptum paced the Rotterdam marathon in 2019 and he loved the atmosphere and the course. Secondly, and probably most importantly, Kiptums manager (Marc Corstjens) is the Rotterdam marathon race director so he likely had some influence.

    Not to be nitpicky but the distance is 42.195km. That is actually just slightly longer than 26.2 miles. This is important, because if you only run 26.2 miles and then stop, you won’t get any records, because it’s about 0.019 miles short of a marathon!
