My favorite part of all of these videos is always the inevitable part where the speedrunners decide to cast off twin galaxies and see what’s possible with glitches
Honestly. Love how they come together and break these 'rules' for the improvement of the community as a whole. And I mean, if the whole community ends up accepting something, there's nothing Twin Galaxies was able to do.
TG should have just created a category for it.
Imo what makes the difference between a speedrun run and a casual run by a really good player is the glitches. Without them it’s just playing the game well, and that’s pretty boring

This is the first video game I ever played, when I was about 7 years old. My grandpa bought me a GBA for my birthday. Before then I had literally never heard of video games (very sheltered family) so understandably my mind was completely blown. I played the remastered Super Mario Advance, the only game I had, for countless hours. I have so much nostalgia connected to this game I have to stop myself from typing forever. I’ll keep it at least somewhat brief and say thanks for this video, it unlocked a nostalgia door in my brain & inspired me to dig up my old Gameboy
While it wasn’t my first Video Game, GBA ver. Super Mario World was incredible as a kid.

Nothing major was found to the best of my knowledge (I watched most of CK's grinds back then). If you look at the WR history post this video the time saves were mostly just fractions of a second. The biggest new change to the route I recall is that he started implementing zombie rocket in 7-1 to catch a particular Birdo pattern that allowed for a very fast kill, saving usually a full second. @@femain1788

August 2021 Update:
IluvMario and COOLKID continued to rival in competing for the Mario 2 World Record. Not so soon after Salt’s video on this released, IluvMario beat COOLKIDS 8:16 with a 15. It stood there for a bit until recently, COOLKID came BACK again and dropped it to a 8:13 . A whole 2 seconds lower. And that’s where it stands as of when I commented this lol.
Honestly from watching the video at the end I came to the conclusion that currently 8:13 was as low as you could get but I'm glad I read this comment for an update on that thank you

My favorite speedrunning trope is when everyone discovers some major time saving techniques, but some previous record holder has been quietly perfecting the old techniques and comes in with an unexpected world record.
Seems that that's happened in multiple videos. I think Doom was one.
I really like that SS acknowledged that it’s very likely people were speed running this game since it came out. I remember my step brother and his friends (who were several years older than me) use to time each other beating Contra. I have no idea how well they did but if those knuckle heads were doing it, my guess is there were many others.
But yeah, without video evidence (or some kind of written record), it’s all conjecture. Again though, appreciate the shout out to the old school peeps.

My parents and I sat down and watched your SMB3 world record video recently. I grew up playing SMB3 and many others on the NES but that was “our” game. It was really special to be able to watch that with them
and to have been able to see tricks and exploits that we didn’t know existed for the first time having been convinced we knew the game inside and out.

This has quickly become my favorite channel. The amount of time this stuff takes to actually research and the genuine admiration for these records and the speedrunnning craft in general is so nice to see.

I don't Speedrun because I think it takes some of the fun out of it (and partly because I'm nowhere near skilled enough) but I am just fascinated with the tricks Speedrunners come up with.

The way summoning salt tells a story is awesome. When you add in the epic music to his narration it just makes it feel monumental

A couple of other UA-camrs have tried to use Mr. Salt's style of music and storytelling for themselves and failed horribly. I saw one Runescape channel literally use Home with the same opening style of commentary and everybody just DUMPSTERED him in the comment section calling him a copycat and a piece of shit lmao. He never tried to do it again

Funny enough, I first heard it from a AE86 car video that came out a year before Salt started using it. So I kept calling the HOME song the 86 song lol
@@lawrencebermudez I mean, that works because it's a parody. Parodying Salt without HOME music just isn't a good parody. The problem is replicating it without a hint of irony or awareness that you're just copying someone else's style for yourself.

@@Komo-en8dn It may depend on the country. In Japan and Europe most of them have 4wheels, but i have seen 6wheeled buses in other countries.
