Hey salt, you may already know them but based on the music in your videos you might enjoy "Boards of Canada". Their album "music has the right to children" is a good starting point if you haven't heard of them. Also thanks for the video, it's always a treat.
At 34:13, talking about saving frames with the goomba, did you accidentally say you lost or saves time backwards? Or did I just misunderstand what was being said? Not criticizing either, it's a legitimate question. Thanks also for these awesome videos!
Honestly, when he was about to mention Pidgey for the first time I was like "omg here comes the Matt Turk..." but it never came... Until the credits, at least. Bursted laughing in my bedroom at 4am XD
I truthfully can’t explain the feeling I get whenever SS goes, in all seriousness, “..and that runner’s name… was BlazeTurds420”. It is a unique sensation.
"And then we'd see a new runner emerge. Someone so talented they'd put all other world record holders to shame. Someone who'd develop many insane skips in the years to come. Their name: ScoobyDoofus420"
SS has a gift. He takes a (let’s be honest, unimportant, inconsequential) speedrun and makes it seem like the most epic thing ever. By the end most of us are like, “Screw the moon landing! These guys beating this other guy’s record in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out is obviously the greatest achievement of mankind!”
The summoning salt bit I’m never gonna get tired of is going “this was undoubtedly a once in a lifetime accomplishment” and then showing the runner do it again. Love this vid
"This run topped the previous run by 0.0002 seconds. It would clearly stand for a long time. But the very next day, a new runner that no one's ever heard of did the impossible... They beat the record, by fifteen seconds."
I love how he moves through chronologically and gives credit to the incredible runs that are obsolete these days. It’s easy to look at old runs and not be impressed because of some later exploit. Love these videos so much.
It's what makes these videos legitimately good endeavors. Going from the start and seeing the gradual progress within the game's community really puts it in perspective.
I also like how he includes some near-misses - the record itself is an amazing achievement, but there's something to be said for second place, which so often gets overlooked
Repent to Jesus Christ “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 NIV
Just want to point out, Pidgey has reclaimed his record since this video came out, and currently holds the wr spot for every single category for this game. Including things like 100%, cannonless, and no world 5
He's like the dude that has been fucking with computers since the early 80s, there's a level of understanding you get in something from doing it at the ground floor that cannot be replicated
@@EvErLoyaLEagLE Who's Matt Turk, if I may ask? This is my first full Summoning Salt video I've watched, so I may not be familiar with many inside jokes.
46:10 for those who don’t know, Dave Stieb was a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1980s. His most infamous accomplishment, and what Salt is referring to here, occurred in September 1988, when he had a no hitter broken up in the 9th inning with 2 outs and 2 strikes (basically the baseball equivalent of Pidgey’s motion control mishap) in back to back starts. The odds of this happening are around 1 in 240 million
That addition at the end with how the runners are doing since then is a really nice touch. Specially just mentioning Matt Turk for the hell of it! Thanks for always being incredible and improving every time, Mr. Salt
@@THEchakkid He was a legendary Punch Out runner from years back, who had basically impossible times with the understanding of the game when he played (all since beaten, of course) and, if I remember correctly, made a sudden appearance in a second video as well unrelated to Punch Out
The addition of the graph and the ending section of "Where are they now" just add SO MUCH to these already ridicioulusly good videos The quality of this content just feels unmatched. Can't wait for the next one, keep up the great work
I love the addition of the "where are they now" slides. It's the perfect closure to the narratives that you're able to create between these near-total strangers playing an okay Mario game competitively.
Update, they’re sub 22 now. There’s a big skip in bowser’s castle. They guide one fireball up and then run over the top of the level, skipping that part.
That's the thing that sucks about making these videos. It's like, when is the right time to do it? Because once it's uploaded it's too late to edit in later WRs. Now one person gets all the UA-cam glory but there have since been 2 people with faster times.
@@Corn0nTheCobb Every person on that list gets their own share of glory, they were all monumental at some point and it's their reward for being there on the ground floor Every video released generally leaves off with the air of 'who will be next', it's a dive into it at its peak of popularity or just after Excluding things like the original mario bros, any video will become outdated with time but that doesn't make it any less good or insightful - if you want the latest news on anything, you'll have to be a part of that community itself - the rest is history
Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. The final look at the runners' current whereabouts is a great addition which i truly hope we get to see in other videos, not just here or just speedrunning but histories of sports like these in general.
The way Summoning Salt builds up every story, making it seem like any time save would require super human precision, making it feel like the climax of the story is about to unfold, but then you realize you're not even half way done with the video. It's magical.
@@B.anan.a no I meant here is also a UA-camr that talks like summoning salt and also made a video about the history of super Mario bros wii speedrunning
I love that every runner that breaks the record gets their own little moment to shine in your videos. Briefly, you present them as the coolest, most skilled person in the world. And they all deserve that! They all accomplished something never before done. Yeah it's a silly little game, but it's pushing human reflexes, memory, and coordination to an absolute limit, and I think it's so cool how you give it so much gravitas. Fantastic vid as always!
concentration as well, having to do runs again and again which each individually require utmost concentration for the entire 20 minute duration to preform such precise movement
The fake outs you pull like at 44:46 gets me everytime. You have the music, the near-perfect gameplay and then it all goes to shit as you watch the runner sadly fail in the worst way. It makes watching them finally succeed satisfying. You surely know how to invoke emotion with your method of editing. ❤️
The WR records timeline and all the current /former WR player recaps at the end are fantastic visual additions to your videos Salt. Love seeing the evolution of your videos along with the speedrunning narrative you put together.
46:12 Clever name drop there :D For those who don't know, Dave Stieb was a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 80s and 90s who was notoriously unlucky in being able to finish no-hitters, losing four or five of them in the ninth inning.
The use of a chart to plot out the world records and pan over them immediately reminded me of a Jon Bois video, and having him name drop Steib clearly shows that he watches his videos. Crazy to think that SummoningSalt might somehow manage to increase his production level to match Jon Bois. Hard to imagine this series of World Record Progression videos getting any more legendary, but it’s safe to say that we’re about to see some once in a generation videos soon.

The coloured timeline and "where are they now?" at the end are excellent additions. How messy would the timeline be if the times were written? Or if the top three (instead of only WR) were shown?
It feels absolutely unreal seeing myself in this video. Although I never quite held a WR, I’d like to think that my personal best time proved to the community that Fade could indeed be contested with, as I made a mistake of about 5 seconds in 8-2 and still came within 3 seconds of his run. It’s awesome to see how much further the community has taken the game since then. BillyJoe is such a talented runner and I’m so happy to see his hard work paying off. Watching this was so nostalgic for me and definitely makes me more inclined to make a return to Mario Wii in the near future and leave my mark for good. >:)
I really love how when the runners are streaming, a lot of them celebrate by saying “WE did it!” It’s really refreshing to see communities where people are friendly rivals or are working together to beat records set by them or other people. It’s not nasty and people don’t get a big head about it.
@@simonmagus2199 Content creation has its own community which shares optimizations just like speedrunning. While you're looking for tips on how to improve audio quality you'll come across all sorts of, let's call them "audience optimizations". Take the video we just watched: there are a lot of comments praising Salt for making an entertaining video which kept them interested for 31 minutes while talking about a game which the commenter has never played. He has really optimized his content creation process in order to consistently deliver a high quality product. But where do you draw the line between optimizations like re-doing your voiceovers to remove mistakes, false starts, stuttering, weird slurping noises, etc, etc ,etc and so called "sociopathic" optimizations? That is a question every content creator has to face on their own. On one hand, saying "we did it" helps the friends you've made in chat during your journey feel involved, and recognizes their contribution....on the other hand, doing stuff like that helps viewer retention and increases revenue for your stream. So is it humble or sociopathic? I personally like to think that it depends on the streamer themself, and comes on a spectrum. Some streamers may feel 80% humble and 20% entrepreneurial, others may have those numbers flipped. You can't really know from the outside how another person feels, or what their true intentions are, so I have often found it best not to even try to find out, and to only focus on how a person makes you feel on the inside.
@@phaolo6 What is said is true, but I dont necessarily think the motive is to trick.. the runner is performing for the audience. Without being observed and admired, theres almost no point in a record. And they are there for the 1000s of runs that DONT succeed too. So I'm sure the runner starts to feel like the effort is a "we" thing.
The mention of Matt Turk was so unexpected I actually cackled. This was an amazing video, Salt. I love your content so much, you're an incredible storyteller. I get chills every single video.
@@boldoberan One of the greatest speedrunners of all time, mainly known for his domination of the NES Mike Tyson’s Punch Out leaderboard for years. Check the video about this game on summoningsalt channel to understand
pidgey whiffing the record bc of the propeller genuinely felt like a crushing defeat, even if he did it soon after and i think that speaks to SummoningSalt's ability to weave the narratives and timelines of these records always a treat when you upload, man
One thing I always appreciate in these videos is when Salt says "this happened" and stays quiet to allow the clip of the player to speak for itself. He knows when he doesn't need to explain.
I swear, every time Summoning Salt holds off on giving a runner's name, I'm bracing for AndrewG or Matt Turk to crash the party. Edit: ... Watch the ending.
The inclusion of Matt Turk made me laugh. Imagine leaving such an impactful mark in the speedrunning community that people keep thinking “I haven’t seen his name yet but I know this man’s gonna show up out of nowhere. I just know it”.
When Pidgey whiffed the ending cause of the motion controls i audibly gasped. I can't imagine how crushed they must have felt. To come back from that in less than 2 weeks AND clutch it must have been the most wonderful feeling of relief and joy!
I have a fairly good mentality, but I can’t imagine not retiring on the spot in that situation. Insane level of grit to be able to pull out a record so shortly after that.
Bro I could literally hear myself gasp at 20:40 when the timeline showed how much FadeVanity shaved off THAT much time from the previous wr from Auchgard. Your storytelling for these speedrunning videos has been a marvel to witness but adding in the timeline visuals truly does transcend it to whole another level of presentation that I could not imagined before. Man what a roller coaster of emotions I swear...
Well done! Others have said it, but there are some really good additions to your format in this one. I can feel the Jon Bois inspiration with those pixelated turbo zoom ins on dots on a graph.
Agree - and @bismuth - your channel also rocks man! Such great content for the speed running community!!! (From not a runner, but a bad nostalgic gamer) Much love!
Bismuth, I was listening to your voice the other day and I realised you must be the Saturn V rocket. If not then congratulations, you have the same voice as a famous space explorer.
The runners recap at the end is such an amazing idea, I guess it was possible because there are just a few record holders in this game, but I hope you can implement it in future videos. This was a great video as always
Your storytelling ability is incredible. You’ve made the incremental progress in a single Super Mario game compelling enough to make me watch an hour of colored dots and Bowser escapes.
It’s a real credit to the creator of this channel that I was able to sit through a 51 minute video about a game I’ve never played. The story telling is unreal. Kept me glued. Keep up the awesome content.
@@ninaddemaio I've been a Mario fan well over 30 years and I haven't played it either, because I never had a Wii. I have put countless hours into the Wii U game though, and just about every other game in the main series.

I mean by that logic, nobody would care to learn anything at all about things they haven't already experienced unless a creator of some sort frames it a certain way to keep a large audience engaged, which is a pretty sad thought. The story of this game's world record has always been interesting, I think Summoning Salt is simply helping us see what was always there! I do agree that the storytelling is amazing lol. I feel like the first sentence of your comment just feels uncomfortably similar to something like "I'm never going to space but I just spent an hour learning about Mars lol" which is depressing because lots of people act like everything they learn has to have some kind of immediate practical use, otherwise it's a waste of time. That's such an awful and destructive way to view information and knowledge lol :( I'm sorry, I'm just thinking out loud, I'm not accusing you anti-intellectualism or anything, but you got me thinking! This is a sentiment I see expressed far too often, the "Lol why did I just spend an hour watching a video about (insert legitimately interesting topic here)" like I dunno dude, because it's interesting? xD
Please never stop using the song “we’re finally landing” by home, it’s synonymous with your channel and everytime it plays I know it’s a good part coming. Secondly I love the timeline addition, you’re rocking it man keep it up bro, in the top three all time favorite channels right here, much love ❤️
For those who are interested, the current record holder is Sharpruns with a 21 minute 52 second run. The only other two people to hit sub 21 is BillyJoe and Cads.
Choke? Choking is not performing. He celebrated too early and lost it. Like a football player thinking he has a walk in touchdown only to be caught from behind. And 100% agreed. Remarkable recovery!
@@sephie8681 I know, and summoning explained that. Regardless, choke is not the right adjective. He performed admirably and then set the control down early and made a simple honest mistake. Choking would have been having the world record "all but in hand" and then not performing to get it. To me that wasn't the case here.
"He had pulled a Dave Steib" With that line I thought he was about to blow the record chance AGAIN at the last minute. Good to see you like the Secret Base videos though @summoning salt
Man this video makes me think of me and little brother, 11 and 8 at the time, beating Bowser for the first time. We didnt know he was gonna have a second phase, we were too young, and the surprise and joy was electric. We played, and played, and played, dying over and over. The determination must have been apparent in our faces and voices since our mom let us keep playing. Once we finally made it to the end, you should have heard the yelling and screaming. The running and jumping on furniture. Man what a time :,)
i think it's a great addition in its simplicity. the video is a history of world records for a category, not a history of speedrunning in that category. but the chart is such a good implementation that i think it's got to be a staple from here on out
Holy shit Pidgey's sequence near the end literally nearly made me tear up. Those kinds of mistakes can be sooo demotivating and devastating, but he bounced back from it and through his efforts managed to achieve the victory he was so close to before. Honestly I feel like I'm practically about to cry even now just thinking about it, this video as a whole was surprisingly powerful.
IIRC in the last video, something like this happened and the runner never recovered from it. So all the more impressive Pidgey bounced back in so short a time.
"He beat the existing record by one second and didn't record it. The community accepted this at face value." Props to the community for putting that level of trust in someone.
Reminds me of the Quest to Beat Matt Turk. None of his times were filmed, but all were believed, to a point where the community knew he had tricks they didn't, & set out to find the tricks themselves purely based on his times, & they were generally successful. Matt is such a legend.
It’s amazing how bad proof standards used to be sometimes, I was looking back at old Perfect Dark leaderboards and some players are recognised as the first to get formerly prestigious records despite not posting any proof and describing outdated strategies.
I love this new format! The timeline plot paints such a great picture and the "where they are now" segments in the end for all the world record holders is such a nice wrap up to the story (and honestly it really does justice for those people who grinded the game and were able to etch their name as the few into speedrunning history). ALSO that Matt Turk thing in the end LMFAO
I absolutely adore that you mentioned Dave Stieb after your comment on the Jon Bois documentary. That series brought tears to my eyes, and this game being one of the most important of my early childhood made the out-of-nowhere reference to that monumental feat to describe the speedrunning achievements of this game was just the creme de la creme. Thanks, Summoning Salt.
I always love it when his love of baseball gets a chance to shine, and when he mentioned Dave Stieb i honestly couldn't tell if that was his baseball fandom talking or if he'd seen the Bois series about him and never, ever forgot about it like the rest of us.
46:42 Pidgey’s second chance after the motion fail was so stressful for me! I was worried that the previous fail may affect him especially towards the end of the run, when pressure is the highest (and when coming close to where he previously failed).
Hey, I’m sure this will just get lost in the comments, but it would be super cool if you did a WR progression for Celeste. It’s one of the coolest speed runs IMO.
Jon is unquestionable but in terms of production and writing I have to put LEMMiNO and EmpLemon, at least, above SS, whose writing is honestly starting to get a bit formulaic by comparison. It's serviceable, and he finds interesting twists to put on what is essentially the same story every time, but...it doesn't hold a candle to the things Jon Bois has made me feel.
@@selenamertvykh6481 Emp's videos are good, but his production isn't the greatest. The Jack the Ripper Lemmino video has some of the best production on YT tbf.
Something I'm liking about this game's runs is they're pretty much entirely dev-intended mechanics, just executed very well. Even the autoscroller skip is just clever application of the Propeller Suit's intended uses combined with wall jumps. I know glitched runs take a lot skill too, but sometimes it's nice to speedruns of a nostalgic platformer that don't glitch the game into oblivion.
I was just thinking this, totally agreed. I love a glitch-ridden run as much as the next person but man, it is fun to see such intensely optimized regular gameplay
small pixel perfect glitches for small optimized time saves is what I love most, stuff that are so hard to pull off that not even the world record holder is necessarily using them Then there's the dark side of glitches in runs, like elden ring any% lmao
“Pidgey had pulled a Dave Stieb.” Dorktown Secret Base viewer confirmed. I was _just_ thinking during this, “you know what? There’s a lot of similarity here to Dorktown, which is _definitely_ not a bad thing.” It’s a pretty masterful way to present statistics and records, and I applaud you for bringing that level to speedruns!
In his Rainbow Road WRs video, he said that there may not be many athletes named Bob, but there’s one that holds the Rainbow Road WR in reference to another Secret Base video about athletes named Bob
****Update**** As of the time of this comment post, Sharpruns is the current record holder at 22m 05s 667ms (LRT). This was set 10 days ago, as of this comment (Mar/15/2023) (the reign lengths of this record have been considerably short recently, so except this record to change sooner than later)

I really enjoyed the influence Jon Bois has had on Summoning Salt, specifically this video. The gradually building graphic, slow zooms, and sudden terror of the motion controls ruining a run just ooze with that classic Jon Bois style. It would be really cool to see the two do a collaboration some day. Perhaps on some world record history in baseball or something similar.
You’re actually so right. Foolish baseball has a fun video about really fast baseball games that a pitcher has pitched. There’s definitely space for it
I am so glad I randomly stumbled on this channel. The fact that I can watch long form videos about playing games I’ve never played, in a way which I’ve never been interested in playing them and be totally glued to my screen is a testament to your storytelling ability. I feel like I’m watching a tv show or anime arc with these stories I’m so invested.
Yes I myself found his Mario kart and super Mario 64 because I was searching TAS Mario 64 runs and happened upon Salt's video. His story had me actually crying at points.. so immersive the storytelling is.
“The community considered it the perfect speed run, with no need to defend it. It would be humanly impossible to proceed further” *checks time, 20min out of 51min, chuckles*
The thing I love about summoning salt is the emphasis you put on the emotions surrounding these things. A love held by few, dedicated entirely to their games. Because at the center of it all, people speedrun because the games are fuckin sick.
For anyone curious watching this years later, sub-22 has been now achieved by 8 players. As of writing this, the record holder is a new player, Cads, with 21:49:100. BillyJoe66, Pidgey, and Skippy are all part of that sub-22 group as well.
I remember Christmas of 2009, waking up early and opening the present that I knew was this game, and playing it until midday on a squeaky wooden chair right in front of the TV while my other presents waited. These videos always give me chills, but because I know this game so well the chills are chillier.
This man has created such an intense cult following that we all stop whatever we're doing to sit down and watch. This is the stuff that people who upload every day can't replicate.
I absolutely adore that he explains literally every single speed running trick used by the world record holders and then 45 MINUTES in he mentions the motion controls. Made me laugh out pretty hard. Excellent video!
I haven't watch any speed running videos in a year or two, but hearing your intro music made me smile in nostalgia, like turning on a classic game. It's great to be back.
I really love the inclusion of a 'where are they now' type moment at the end of the videos, that and the graph are such major improvements to videos I alreadythought were near perfect. Keep up the amazing work Salt!
I was subscribed to FadeVanity’s UA-cam channel back in 2019, and I’m pretty sure the reason he quit speedrunning was because of mental issues, which really sucks. It's what makes these videos legitimately good endeavors. Going from the start and seeing the gradual progress within the game's community really puts it in perspective.

Thanks for this. I’m still just as confused but I would be much more confused without you

I'm sure you can pull another great time, good luck mate!
Thank you for your contributions to the NSMBW speedrun community!!!
I really love how when the runners are streaming, a lot of them celebrate by saying “WE did it!” It’s really refreshing to see communities where people are friendly rivals or are working together to beat records set by them or other people. It’s not nasty and people don’t get a big head about it.
Mm.. that's just a super common streamer trick to engage viewers and not appear full of themselves. I'd frankly prefer if they said "I did it".
@@phaolo6 if that's a "common trick" that really seems sociopathic. either that or you're overly cynical.

What is said is true, but I dont necessarily think the motive is to trick.. the runner is performing for the audience. Without being observed and admired, theres almost no point in a record. IIRC in the last video, something like this happened and the runner never recovered from it. So all the more impressive Pidgey bounced back in so short a time.

if theres ever a complete RNG strat discovered in this game, you should totally run it again, its the most free wr known to man for you

46:10 "Pidgey had pulled a Dave Stieb"
I'm living for this UA-cam crossover universe.
I don't know how summoning salt got the power to summon everyone on the earth whenever he uploads but he did
He uses high quality salt for his summoning circles.
Well he is called SUMMONING Salt, after all
he summons everyone every time thanks to that wonderful beginning music of course
The trick is the salt
Yes
Hey, I’m sure this will just get lost in the comments, but it would be super cool if you did a WR progression for Celeste. It’s one of the coolest speed runs IMO.
I legit came to the comments section to leave this exact comment.

here's hopium that it happens
true
I can't even imagine how it'd feel losing the record because their cutscene was faster than yours.
if it was cause of doritos and ketchup I wouldn't be as upset
It always annoyed me how things that are fully uncontrollable aren't cut from the time. Like the cutscenes in Wii sports
"Pulled a Dave Steib" I love how the two best story tellers on YT acknowledge each other despite not making videos on the same topic!
Idk, we got his punch out speedruns and fighting in the age of loneliness (I think that's the title). That's the same thing, right?
Jon is unquestionable but in terms of production and writing I have to put LEMMiNO and EmpLemon, at least, above SS, whose writing is honestly starting to get a bit formulaic by comparison. It's serviceable, and he finds interesting twists to put on what is essentially the same story every time, but...it doesn't hold a candle to the things Jon Bois has made me feel.
@@selenamertvykh6481 Emp's videos are good, but his production isn't the greatest. The Jack the Ripper Lemmino video has some of the best production on YT tbf.
When did Jon bois mention summoning salt

At least there's a brief appearance from Matt Turk.
Excellent as always. The Dave Stieb reference/comparison was perfect.

I love a glitch-ridden run as much as the next person but man, it is fun to see such intensely optimized regular gameplay
small pixel perfect glitches for small optimized time saves is what I love most, stuff that are so hard to pull off that not even the world record holder is necessarily using them
Then there's the dark side of glitches in runs, like elden ring any% lmao
“Pidgey had pulled a Dave Stieb.” Dorktown Secret Base viewer confirmed. I was _just_ thinking during this, “you know what? There’s a lot of similarity here to Dorktown, which is _definitely_ not a bad thing.” It’s a pretty masterful way to present statistics and records, and I applaud you for bringing that level to speedruns!
hey man. some of us are just old blue jays fans
I instantly recognized this as well, the timing was just too perfect!
SS and Jon Bois have payed homage to each other multiple times lol
@@murakii Game recognize Game. Literally.
In his Rainbow Road WRs video, he said that there may not be many athletes named Bob, but there’s one that holds the Rainbow Road WR in reference to another Secret Base video about athletes named Bob
****Update****
As of the time of this comment post, Sharpruns is the current record holder at 22m 05s 667ms (LRT).
This was set 10 days ago, as of this comment (Mar/15/2023)
(the reign lengths of this record have been considerably short recently, so except this record to change sooner than later)
at time of this comment (6/10/24) Cads is the first (and only) person the break the 21:50 barrier with a time of 21m 49s 100ms (LRT), the current WR
I like the new ending talking about what the key runners are up too. Hopefully Salt continues to do that in the future.
The childlike joy that overcomes me upon hearing the very first chord being played in HOME's unforgettable classic at the start of each Summoning Salt video catapults me back to a feeling of innocent bliss that I prized even as a child
It truly is like the hype we got for a game as a kid, only now it's not about playing it but watching it
Off topic but have you accepted Jesus as your Savior?
@@JuicyJenitals no mate sorry
@@xanaxwizard You have time right now to change that. The world is headed towards damnation but you can escape it. The last 3000+ years have been a testimony in favor of God's word. Contemplate how to Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is Rome. From this part of scripture we can conclude that A) The God of Israel is the one true God, and He can predict the future or make it happen or B) The Nations and governments have been conspiring together for the last several millenia. There is a video here on youtube titled "From Babylon To America" by SchoolForProphets that covers this.

Agreed but I don't think it beats as a kid having played the classics that laid the foundations for everything we see today
Yeah I used to play this with my dad when I was younger great game
Excellent video, definitely approve of the timeline/ "where are they now" segments. Merch looks nice too! But I feel like the one thing that would sell the best would be a Summoning Salt shaker.
Omg YES

Man...history is literally being made everyday, and its beautiful. That wiimote movement was heartbreaking to watch.
That Matt Turk though XD A part of me was waiting for that name to pop up and you picked the best time to do so.
Matt Turk comment made me laugh hard. I liked the little "What are they doing now?" bit, but that one was not expected at all.
He is an absolute legend, he deserves mention, even if he never ran the game!

I always look when he says anything like that. He never says it at the end, I guess in case some new strat is discovered in the future.
The thing I love about summoning salt is the emphasis you put on the emotions surrounding these things. A love held by few, dedicated entirely to their games. Because at the center of it all, people speedrun because the games are fuckin sick.
Jesus loves you

For anyone curious watching this years later, sub-22 has been now achieved by 8 players. As of writing this, the record holder is a new player, Cads, with 21:49:100. BillyJoe66, Pidgey, and Skippy are all part of that sub-22 group as well.
I remember Christmas of 2009, waking up early and opening the present that I knew was this game, and playing it until midday on a squeaky wooden chair right in front of the TV while my other presents waited.
These videos always give me chills, but because I know this game so well the chills are chillier.
Got this game for my birthday when I was younger 😂😂

I was subscribed to FadeVanity’s UA-cam channel back in 2019, and I’m pretty sure the reason he quit speedrunning was because of mental issues, which really sucks. But also, besides regular speed runs, he actually also did ONE-HANDED versions which at the time and still to this day I think were really impressive. I hope he’s doing well now, and all the best.
Same here
He was one of my favorite UA-cam channels and it's sad he is gone but I hope he's doing well
i wondered about that, because it sounds like a case of mental health problems, since he wiped them too.
i really hope he's all right out there.
