This man was a genius he took over an entire country and furthered his families political, economic, and military power all without putting the target that was the iron throne on his back
Govan Hodges well the iron throne wasn’t a target for Tywin. Just like when Aerys was king and Tywin was hand, everybody knew Tywin was running the show. With Joffrey and Tommen it’s pretty much the same thing. I don’t care how many battles Robb was winning he was going up against Tywin. So to us it looked like Robb had surprised Tywin by being a better adversary than Tywin expected. However, to everybody in Westeros it looked like a child still so very green going up against the man who destroyed a major noble house and had a song written about it. It was only a matter of time.
@@bobbydeuce6486 Robb would've ended Tywin if that stupid Edmure didn't hinder Tywin when they're raiding the westerlands. He outwitted Tywin in every battle. The turning point was Edmure's stupidity. After that betrayal after betrayal leading to his doom.
Pogi Akolagi yeah that speaks all the more for Tywin. When Tywin set up a counter stroke that needed the coordination of multiple leaders what happens? The red wedding. When Robb needed to pull off a plan that needed the coordination of multiple leaders what happens? Edmure fucks up cuz he wasn’t told the plan pushing Tywin into a better position for him to wage war. And let’s face it, Tywin knows how to wage war while Robb doesn’t. Robb even remarks to his mother that he has won every battle but is losing the war. Hey I liked Robb Stark too, and the ending for Catelyn and her first son was quite sad. Maybe she should’ve given Robb ned’s orders to fortify moat cailin and to trust Glover, Tallhart, & Manderly. Not ROOSE BOLTON! The guy has a flayed man as his house sigil. The fuck?! Or maybe Ned could’ve at least told his wife that they have to pretend Jon is a bastard but still have evidence that says otherwise (bury it with lyanna) just in case. Then should something happen they could work together and Ned’s bannermen would show respect to the boy cuz Ned did. Sorry there are just so many things I call bullshyt about this story when it comes to the Starks. They’re not morally bankrupt like everybody else but they are unwaivering idiots in their code of honor, but they still do odd things that are out of character.
Because it's a short term solution that will only result in a more bloody war in the future. When that war comes people will not treat with you or trust any deals you make if you try to sue for peace. The only way it will end is with the complete dustruction of you or your opponent.
“You think a crown gives you power” Tywin’s and Tyrion’s verbal sparring is so much more entertaining than the giant battles of the later seasons. In all fairness, it's possible Joffrey could've had Tywin assassinated. Joffrey would likely see Tywin as nothing but a nuisance after the Stark war, and someone who would deny his power. The HOW is another question, but a timeline where Joffrey doesn't die would be tumultuous.

15:05 God that moment is equally hilarious and badass. Everyone in the audience thinks that Tywin is being presented with an option that he doesn’t want to take. That he’ll agonize over it, overthink it, or even just slightly let it bother him. But instead he just gives a one word, “done” without changing his tone or missing a beat in the conversation. What’s scary is that he makes it seem like it he’s so for it that it’s like it was his own idea in the first place
That moment was built up since the Season 4 opener when Tywin tried to persuade Jaime to leave the Kingsguard by giving him Oathbreaker. He has been thinking of ways to get Jaime to become the Lannister heir again and now the situation has arrived.
I mean, he literally *told* Jamie that Tyrion wasn't going to be killed: Tywin: " *It won't be murder,* it will be justice. Jamie: "Justice?" Tywin"...he will be punished accordingly." Jamie: "He'll be executed." Tywin: " *No,* he will be punished accordingly."
I don't think he put him on trial specifically for that. Cersei had him arrested and there was circumstantial evidence pointing to Tyrion. Tywin was just doing his job as hand and didn't care. However when Jaime offered to become his heir he jumped on the opportunity, since he could get rid of his hated son, sparing his family the shame of an execution, while getting his eldest son and heir back where he wanted him, and then send cersei back to the Rock, for tywin it would have been a win/win/win. No way would a man as intelligent as him pass up such an opportunity.

I never realized this before, but at 9:07 when Tywin says "we can arrange to have you carried," he's making it clear who's really in control. It REALLY depends on a lot of things and needed sacrifices should be considered. As an analogy, Tywin’s value system reminds me of China’s policy and development model. They don’t give a shit about individual rights and the human rights of their population, instead (best case scenario) always thinking on their country’s global standing in the long run. They have astounding economic growth rates and will surpass the US as the world’s largest economy in this century. But at what cost for their people? Would you still say their approach is better and the one other countries should follow? I think not. Just as Tyrion and Cersei wish they weren’t their father”s offspring in that scene, would you rather live today in China?
The way Tywin reacts to Tyrion's "disapproval" of the Red Wedding is quite revealing. It would seem that Tywin does indeed have a measure of conscience, and when he is defensive we see a little blip of it.
jm 91 ummm did you watch the same show? If season 1-6 was the measuring stick than 7 and 8 don’t measure up at all. The writing 1-6 was a work of art. 7 and 8 was not thought out, rushed and mixed into one big pile of 💩
Seasons 1-4 were works of art. Season 5 was very good but arguably not quite as good. Season 6 would have started falling off the rails if Battle of the Bastards wasn’t there to help it along.
Lord Tywin successfully crushed the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion in the Westerlands. He put the traitors to death with great cruelty, sending a message to everyone who dares to challenge House Lannister.

Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
7:04 in a show full of gigantic moments and memorable speeches, the moment that stands out the most to me is this sincere vulnerability for Cersei, begging her father not to be married off again against her will. Lena Headey nails it, as usual.

Tywin Lannister is one of the best characters in the show .. his dialogue delivery is just absolute masterclass .. and man that voice just shows how many tough battles he a won
16:41 I bet Tywin felt on top of the world at this moment in his life. He went from being the son of a Lannister who was laughed at to the man known throughout the realm for bringing three family Houses to extinction. This character was really cold af❗️
13:19 This is by far the best and the most cruel diologue I have ever heard and it is acting so flawlessly and Tirion's reaction was just perfect, he standing there just trying to swallow what he just said. Just a Masterpiece of scene.
Dude has a perfect name: Tywin (tie-win). Tie or win. No lose in it On a different note, Tyrion and Cersei should have just went along with the marriage plots without question. When they didn’t, that’s when Tywin realized how foolish they really were. At least it substantiated it. Those marriages were win-win. Or at least tie-win. Ah, see what I did there.
The marriages were actually both terrible. Marrying Sansa Stark to a Lannister after a Lannister orchestrated king assassination would not have secured the north's loyalty even with Boltons ruling as puppet regents. And it's very dangerous to put Tyrells this close to their body when their head is a plotter rivaling Tywin. It was just the smallest of the evils. With House Lannister in crippling debt and realm in shambles, there were no good alternatives.
Tywin and Cersei discussing Margaery made me realize why I love Tywin. He was methodical, clever and knew that even an enemy can be useful and necessary.....whereas Cersei figured "nah, kill the bitch"
And her own son by proxy. Gods, Tywin hit the nail on the head when he pointed out how she wasn't nearly as clever as she thought she was. She's like 60% the way there. Close enough to get technical wins, far enough that she ends up fucking over herself in the long run(see: all her children dying as the end result of plots she put into motion)
Hen Drik It kinda did. Season 5 was where the writing got retarded. Because they stopped using the source material which they still had two books worth of.
Tywin and Jamie discussing Tyrion’s fate is one of the best scenes of the whole show, so much emotion, legwork in the setup and the abruptness of the conclusion. 10/10. What a wonderful show this was, particularly in the earlier seasons when they had material to work off of.
Tywin is a hard ass villian, but I enjoy his character because he appreciates his power, that he established, and has a mind to maintain it. You see Cersei and Joffery as prime examples of someone who wields power primarily to their liking and personal benefit, but someone like Tywin and Tyrion has the sense to know when someone else is their equal when it comes to intelligence and see them as a threat. My favorite parts with Tywin are when he's talking with Tyrion, Arya, or Olenna Tyrell, the few people that he can have an engaging conversation with.
I like how when he describes he wanted to throw Tyrion to the sea, you can see him in a brief moment of vulnerability, as if hes embarrassed. God I love Charles Dance's acting
When Tywin was making fun of Tyrion's height he's really just egging Tyrion on most of the time trying to get him mad, he doesn't care that Tyrion is short; the rare times Tywin loses him composure is when he calls Tyrion a murderer who killed his own mom to enter the world, that's also the real reason Cersei hates Tyrion so much.
That must be some kind of psychotic disease in the Lannister family, since both Edmure and Daenerys both "killed" their mother when they entered the world. Still their siblings don't hate them and wish them death like Cersei for example.
@@OhmeinGottVIIC differences on how they were raised. Lannisters are raised to believe they are lions above everyone else, Tullys were raised to trust their family and keep close relations with as many reliable people as possible.
the hate to tyrion is very very complex matter because it's family matter... he killed his mother when he born, wedded with whore, and dwarf. additionally, his cocky, cynical manner for cercei, joffery and somehow his father for their sight. not because he is only had been dwarf nor killed his mother nor have been such character. so, it's complex problem also when it comes to the relationship between tywin and tyrion, for example, tywin hates tyrion because of his sinful lust, killed his wife and after that miserable birth he got only a ugly dwarf after his most handsome, beautiful boy and girl in the westeros, and while these are keep concerned his mind, quite frequently, tyrion says the damn right thing about sansa stark, right to be heir of casterly rock, etc. and on the flip side, he loves him in the name of lannister though not as his own son, trust him to appoint him to take position of the hand of the king instead himself, respect him whom survived and stand his place still after through his whole afflictions and problems. you know, family matter is complex matter. many are hate their family most, while they love their family most.
The score in that scene with Ice being reforged is fantastic. The way it transitions from the Stark theme to the Lannister theme 10/10. I truly hated Tywin in that moment.
It was visually poetic and prophetic in a way. Showed in form who Tywin was as a man, and his values. Even though he might've respected the Starks for their prowess in battle and stewardship over the North, he was willing to completely destroy them in order to secure more power for his own family. The problem was that he didn't manage to destroy the Starks with his actions, only split them and rob them of their appearance. In essence, the Starks survived and replaced the Lannisters in the end.
He wasn't *quite* as smart as he thought he was - his rule would result in the annihilation of Westeros by the Others. Still, he was a truly excellent politician. You should hear about the stuff he did to the "Mad" King... Tywin is largely the reason he was paranoid.
when i got married they asked if we wanted any special song when we walked out, it did not take a lot of time to decide, you should have seen my bestmans face when Rains of castamere started playing and me and my wife walked out of there
They ran out of source material I believe. They no longer had books to give them the structure of the story, but GRRM was still providing the concepts as it is his story.

Then died on the privy.

Sorry there are just so many things I call bullshyt about this story when it comes to the Starks. because one is at a wedding and the other during battle
Because it's a short term solution that will only result in a more bloody war in the future. When that war comes people will not treat with you or trust any deals you make if you try to sue for peace. The only way it will end is with the complete dustruction of you or your opponent.
Well, because a wedding is a peaceful event held amongst friends. So it was a betrayal. A cheap betrayal for the Freys, a smart move for Lannisters
But so is Tyrion’s scepticism that he did it to save lives.

I don't think he put him on trial specifically for that. Cersei had him arrested and there was circumstantial evidence pointing to Tyrion. Tywin was just doing his job as hand and didn't care. @@MAN_FROM_BEYOND damn I missed these details. early seasons really are the best. thanks lol
Wait til you see when the direwolves + Stark children die aömost exactly at the same time!
Maybe I’m overthinking it but the fact that the kings guard won’t even step in when Tywin walks up those steps shows tywins power
Dude has a perfect name: Tywin (tie-win). Tie or win. No lose in it
On a different note, Tyrion and Cersei should have just went along with the marriage plots without question.
Tywin Lannister is by far my favorite GOT character. There's so much to learn from him. His game is as good as it gets.
Tywin is probably the only GoT character that can go toe to toe in a roasting match with Tyrion
The show died with Tywin
Damn 900 likes
Sad but True
Sir Dehumanized really did
No, it didnt..
Hen Drik It kinda did. Season 5 was where the writing got retarded. Because they stopped using the source material which they still had two books worth of.
Dude i believe if he was alive; lannister defate the nightkings and targeryians
Tywin and Jamie discussing Tyrion’s fate is one of the best scenes of the whole show, so much emotion, legwork in the setup and the abruptness of the conclusion. 10/10. What a wonderful show this was, particularly in the earlier seasons when they had material to work off of.
The king is tired, see him to his chambers
He's hysterical, get him out of here.
I'm NOT . . . TIRED!!!
Legend has it he stared the stag down and it got onto the table by itself.
Tywin: You are my prey and will do as I say!
Stag: yes, my lord.
"The battle is over. We have won" so much power in just few words.
Tywin: "You want to write a song for the dead starks? Go ahead, write one."
@11:44 Tyrion: "Damn man that's a bangin' idea I might get on that..."
Still their siblings don't hate them and wish them death like Cersei for example.
flori468 yea viserys hated the shit out of dany for it.
Id clap tyrions cheeks
Am i the only one who loved all the lanniters since s1
@@leostormdryke9036 yes, just you.
@@Christopherjazzcat well i got my answer thanks.
The lannisters send their regards ☺😊
@@leostormdryke9036 best actors by far, main 4 were cast perfectly
"I could care less what anyone thinks of me"
"Thats what you want people to think of you"
Tywin just described 80% of humanity.
Tywin’s greatest downfall was his obsession of protecting his families image. It ended with him dead on a shitter with his family in tatters.
His problem was that he did not protect the family, he protected only the name of the family, which is what ultimately destroyed, well.... the family
What a retarded comment. Tyrion destroyed the Lannister name when he killed Tywin.
He wasn't *quite* as smart as he thought he was - his rule would result in the annihilation of Westeros by the Others. Still, he was a truly excellent politician. You should hear about the stuff he did to the "Mad" King... Tywin is largely the reason he was paranoid.
Varys was the reason he was paranoid...mad king hated Tywin cause he got all the praise for ruling
That same downfall is probably how he was able too get his family too rise anyway.
when i got married they asked if we wanted any special song when we walked out, it did not take a lot of time to decide, you should have seen my bestmans face when Rains of castamere started playing and me and my wife walked out of there
Legendary
I love how when Joffrey tried to tell Tywin off, everyone was looking at him like, “There’s a soon to be dead kid standing.”
“That’s cruel, even for you” Oh boi oh boi how innocent he was lul
This just keeps me wondering, how can a show this mature and phenomenal can turn into such a garbage in just one season, like what is the secret here?
Actually, season 7 was garbage too
They ran out of source material I believe. They no longer had books to give them the structure of the story, but GRRM was still providing the concepts as it is his story.
DE VANOV not to mention my boy Night King getting killed by Xena warrior princess
@@kuharua54 didn't grrm bounce after season 5 (coincidence with the endo of source material) ?
Sudden writer brain damage.
11:06 I absolutely love that look of admiration, you can always see hints that Tywin sees his intelligence in Tyrion admires him for it not matter how much he hates him
He was by far the smartest and most cunning in the series by not solely focusing on just the iron throne but cementing Lannister rule at key points all throughout Westeros
Love how Tywin ORDERED both Tryrion and Cersei to marry. Especially when Cersei was being so smug hahahaha
