I’ve had very good luck purchasing consoles labeled as “for parts” as they typically say what’s wrong with them. I order PS3’s with bad disk drives, missing hard drives, or bad HDMI ports. Never ordered any consoles labeled as fully working so can not attest to that
I got really lucky once when I bought a whole box of random consoles bundled together for 100 bucks. 2 Gamecubes, 2 PSXs, 2 original XBOXs, a phat PS2 and a white slim PS2. They all worked and came with controllers and memory cards. Both XBOXs were modded which was interesting to see.
Nobody can ever forget how Goodwill never looks and checks items before they are sold, I once got an ipad 5 for $10 because they thought it was an "OLD TABLET"
Last year I found a brand new package of ram for a computer... It was brand new in the box. 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200mhz DDR4 ram. At the time brand new that was like $180-200. It was actually the perfect upgrade for my computer as I only had 16gb. It cost me $5.99. I also found a like new Wii that day too, plus 2 Wiimotes and a Wii zapper. Quite the find that day.
Happy to say I still own my PS3 Slim from 2009. What a great console. Never had problems with it and a great library of games. I do sometimes give it a good wipe or blow some of the dust out, but overall it doesn't ever overheat (and no, I didn't replace the thermal paste).
I think its really really awesome that someone will be able to buy that console, where there is proof you put some TLC into it. All the way down to the thermal paste thats great man, who ever buys this console is getting there moneys worth
Big cross all the way! did that to me ps3 slim and got great thermal results aftewards checked some repair shops stats for ps3 slims and gave a average temp of all he's done after doing thermal paste fresh and mine was sitting on the lower end so i stand by the method!
Those IHSs are huge, so you just need to put more thermal paste on than you usually do to cover the whole IHS. The method doesn't matter as long as you have a proper amount of thermal compound and good coverage. If the temperatures look good at the end, should be OK.
Instead of an X with thermal paste, try a "snowflake" with extra small lines going between the "X" arms. I still like the old method of thinly coating the whole chip, though. Never had problems with trapped air bubbles. The trick is to use a very thin coat of thermal paste. A small air bubble is still better than no thermal paste in the area anyway.
Yeah I would always spread it thin, there's some tricks to doing it nicely. Never had any problems. I think that's the method Gamers Nexus (PC buikding channel) uses when they test heatsinks.
PS3 slim is definitely my favorite console ever made and very reliable. The CECH-2001A with the Nidec cooling set is definitely better with staying cool and quiet.
Nice vid. For the controllers, most manufacturers uses alps joysticks. And they’re very cheap. If you wanna desolder them for new ones. It’ll be a genuine part.
The only way to fix a playstation 3 controller behind the controller. There's a little tiny small hole get a Bobby pin and stick it in there. For 5 seconds. And it will restart the controller.
I enjoy watching you clean them out.... It helps my OCD make sure it got done and I don't wonder oh did he just put it all back together like it was or did he clean it off camera? So yeah I appreciate it
Pressure also helps with the controller ribbon cable so, you putting a new sponge layer would definitely help it long term. Also both are wrong with thermal past application. You spread it in advance making sure no silver of the chip shows through. You also apply a layer on the heat sink pad too so you know coverage has been achieved. then pressure connects both together.
Please note that using too much thermal paste is not a great idea. While using a small tip paint brush, you can spread a thin layer of paste evenly across the surface of the cpu and gpu. And then a very small bead of additional paste can be applied to the center of the chips/chips and that is usually a no fail application.... Also being sure that no bristles come off the brush, which is usually not a problem with a new brush, as paint brushes withstand thick paints as well as paint thinner and multiple strokes before deteriorating. Just my method 😊
I recently bought a Xbox 360 with the original box from goodwill for $80. Thing is mint condition and is still on NXE pre Kinect dashboard. Previous owner played it for two years and it sat this whole time until I got it. Zephyr motherboard though. Not sure what I want to do with it yet
Nice console much better than dk oldies, cheaper and they dont lie to you saying its refurbished. Sony controllers after the first dualshock 2 models are all pretty bad, they made that crap of making the front buttons in a pad with pressure, in 2000, 2001 and 2002 dualshock 2 the front button contacts were a contact assembly soldered directly to the board which dont fail. Good video.
If you already own a PS5, assuming u also have a controller you can use the controller instead of a PS3 controller. There’s only one flaw and it’s the home button not being functional but everything else from no stick drift or random button inputs are what make it a better option than buying a ps3 controller. Btw use your charger on ur ps5 controller to connect to the PS3 so you can activate it. You can just Bluetooth it to the ps3 afterwards so you can play far away and shii
my little brother had a ps3 super slim and he had it for his birthday, it came with not a lot of games so we didn't really play it but now that my brother doesn't care about it, it's mine. I modified it and put a 500 gb hard drive in it and i can put a lot of games in it. but i broke a controller
So I can never seem to get an answer elsewhere (such as Reddit), so I'll ask here. I have a PS3 Slim that got YLOD back in 2014, I ended up just buying a Super Slim after that (then soon after that got a PS4), as at the time, I didn't really know what to do. It wasn't until a few years later I realized WHY it got YLOD, and it's because I tore down the whole PS3 to clean it and I separated the heat sink from the thermal paste. Well a few weeks ago I finally got around to buying some Thermal Paste in an attempt to fix it....but it didn't work. I even applied the paste twice just in case I messed it up the first time (didn't look like I did). So it's doing what it did back in 2014...red light comes on, when I click power it turns green for a couple seconds, then turns yellow, then back to red and beeps 3 times. Nothing else seems to be wrong with it though, power supply is fine, none of the capacitors are swollen, the motherboard looks in great shape...but still YLOD. Any idea what might be the issue? I'd love to bring it back to life.
@@NappaDZ HDD was fine. I had it upgraded to 1TB, which I later put in my Super Slim that still uses it today. Only other thing I can think of is there has to be some kind of damage done to the pins of the CPU or something...or it's been dead for so long that I waited too long to bring it back? I don't know.
The X method of thermal paste application is correct, however, you needed to use much more than that tiny little x you made on the chips. Next time, do better!! 🤣🤣🤣
Not at all actually, the PS3 was the only first system out of any manufacturer with an OS, Blu Ray, and the first really good graphics, nothing like the ps2 or the PlayStation.
Dual shock 3 is one of the worst controllers Playstation made. I have tried to repair so many just to fix a few due to the ribbon cable being flimsy junk.
Ok, so I have run through about 15 videos, and what I don't get is why you don't just present yourselves for what you guys do. You're console flippers, you don't "refurbish" nor do you actually fix anything I have seen. You do maintenance, and y'all def script more then you let on. It's also a bit weird that you check out peoples info if you find it. I am not attacking y'all, there's nothing wrong with moving bulk, or buying bulk doing maintenance and single selling the best units. There's no need to front......¯\_(ツ)_/¯
