My first PS3 was a day 1 purchase. So I added all of my saves from my PS1 and PS2 memory cards to the HD and gave them with my PS2 when I sold it. So when I got YLOD, I lost 10 years of saves, everything since highschool.
That PS3 that had a solid green might have been the display setting. When you plug it in, just hold the power button. Keep it held until the system shuts down - roughly 20 seconds. If it does, press and hold the power down until you hear a double beep and release the power button. It may not be the solution without actually having it in hand.
@Jacob R For the wii. I think that was probably more likely used at a nursing home or retirement home. From my experience Nintendo wiis where used to encourage the residents to exercise or do activities. and also used in physical therapy. This is in reference to the WII that you mention with Wii Fit and multiple miis. 20:40

Most of Sonys console work with two different power voltages. There will be a low power standby voltage that keeps the console in a low power state that will first turn on then it will kick start the main 12 volts and the processor will turn on booting the console.
11:15 noise is probably coming from the power supply. May just be getting enough power for the initial low power boot but never into the higher power range for the rest of the boot process. It still had warranty sticker, so never opened. If something blew on the PSU and is rattling around, it's in a whole other container.
My first ps3 I got back in 2011 had some problems reading discs after not being used for a long time. I could hear the disc trying to be read, but eventually it would give up and try again on its own. I actually managed to fix that problem by putting in a bluray movie and letting it read and it eventually read the disc and when I put in a game after that the game instantly loads. I guess most of the older unused ps3 consoles need to kinda warm up after not being used for so long.
Had the green light of death on my old ps3 slim, I think it’s a GPU issue - the chip might need to be reseated. This is just a guess though 🥲 I only say this as, during the troubleshooting process I did, I put pressure towards the back of the console where the GPU is on the board, and it worked for a little bit before dying on me again.
Imagine, somewhere, there is a gamer who has been waiting for their best teammate to one day log in. It's been years, last log in 2015. Then you buy a pallet of consoles and start checking them all, only to get this gamers hopes up that the one they waited for came back, only to never log on again
Basically the GLOD refers to either hard drive failure or a BGA Failure Bump in the RSX, it's common for issues like after you open up a PS3 and then you put it back together, and after it turns on it has a green light but no display. @RIPFelix has a whole video on the Yellow Light Of Death
I used to help repair electronics. the most common thing i replaced on motherboards after they were tested were the caps and resistors. sometimes a gpu, or a 128 or 64 pin chip or a pci slot or what have you but mostly it was a cap or resistor. like of all the parts i replaced the most it was those. i was actually overjoyed to get a different part! it got boring easy only replacing resistors and caps from 6-3 and we could only leave our stations to go to the wave soldering station to replace pci's. my favorite chips to replace where the 128 pin chips. cause you can do each side in a single motion using just the iron with a pencil tip and some solder and flux without bridging the pins if you knew how! it took like 2 mins tops to change them! but i've seen some people on youtube struggle with them. but their problem is mostly they didn't use enough or the right type of flux. that or they didn't have enough practice soldering in general. it is a skill like any else you have to practice!
You could try replacing the laser on the non-working drive with one from one of the other PS3 GLOD consoles, then maybe you'd have that one working? You'd still have the other one with a GLOD but one less non-working one. You could still get another laser for the GLOD one you've taken it from, but it could allow another one to work, at least? Just a thought! (Also don't forget you can power on with a controller; can't remember if it needs to be wired to do this - it might do).
At this point in the series we're really just trying to get these consoles sold and out the door as quickly as we reasonably can, so we're keeping repairs to a minimum. I also think there might be some board marriage between the disc drive and the motherboard of the slim PS3, but that might depend on the model. Either way, we're not always looking to fix up every console in this series. Your point about powering on with a controller is true, but only if you've already synced the controller first. If all you have is an unsynced controller, then you need to first power the console on manually to sync it up before being able to turn the console on remotely.
If you think of it all these's old console's probably have memorys of people playing it like familys or multiple familys or kids in the 2000s anything but it's kind of nice to think of that for me
All the ps3s that had the green light of death are CECH-2001A or B Fun fact: the letters a and b are about storage the A has 120gb and the B has 320gb. I had a ps3 model CECH-2504B and still works with no issues.
IIRC not always the case that storage is gonna be big - I have a CFW'd 2503B, 1A datecode, and its original drive was a 160GB (dead, unfortunately - the one I had received inside it was a standard 80GB drive from a HP laptop - the 160 was inside the bag I received the PS3 in.).
As a ps3 player at 23:22 I can confirm that ps3 lasers go out after a certain time. my ps3 cant play early release games for some reason. Cant get the first little big planet, or captain America to work on the system. everything else works fine as expected, replaced disc and everything. last thing to be swapped out is the laser. and its only early release games I've experienced this with, tho bo1 works fine bo2 doesn't, so maybe its more of a hit and miss situation.
If that's the case, if im remembering properly, you have to either adjust the position of the laser or the strength of the laser. But just incase, check if the discs are dusty or full of dirt marks, wipe/clean and see if that works.
a green light of death experience for me is that there was a power pole near my house that was struck it fried it and it started smoking but stayed on rip ps3 super slim ?-2015
