I liked the bowl and video because there was no ‘Love it!’ to click on! Great piece!
Awesome! Thank you! 😊
We lived on a Cork Tree farm in Portugal with grazing sheep beneath. They numbered the trees from 0-9 and harvested the cork bark sheets once every 10 years. I didn't know they had cork oak in the US. Lovely turning with fantastic contrasting colors. Bravo.
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Beautiful. I like how you kept the original shape and the contrast between the bark and the wood. That's the darkest oak I've ever seen.
Darkest I've seen, too. Thank you! 😊
I really did not think this piece was going to be very interesting until the finish went on. The finished piece is very interesting with the dark ring between the bark and the heart wood. ❤
That ring does help it all stand out, Doug! 😊
Good evening, Phil.
I really like this bowl. The wood is amazingly unique. Very well done with the starting layout. "What ever floats your cork."
LOL! Thanks, Ray! 😊
It’s beautiful and fascinating that the cork is still soft! Never have seen anything like this!
😊
That is a beautiful peace of work, it is not round, beautiful!
Thank you very much! 😊
That is the neatest bark I’ve ever seen and the color contrast is amazing. Thanks Phil!
I agree, Brenda, thanks! 😊
I just love all the different woods I’ve learned about and your wonderful imagination! This is a very cool bowl and I wish I could feel the cork! The wood is a gorgeous rich color. Terrific turning Phil. Thanks! Stay warm!
Thank you, Susanne! I think it's beginning to warm just a little. Maybe make 40 today! 😊
That’s fancy. I like it quite a bit too. ❤ 👍👍👍
Glad you like it, Steve, thanks! 😊
The texture, color, and grain pattern between the heartwood, sapwood and bark on this piece is just lovely.
Agreed, thank you! 😊
I've never seen cork oak but your sure did it justice thanks for the introduction 😅👍👏
My pleasure 😊
Cork oak, that's a new one for me. Beautiful piece Phil. Love the colors of finished product. Thank you once again...Dan.
Glad you like it, thanks, Dan! 😊
I really liked the bottom, the top was lovely, but the bottom was terrific.
I agree, it really shows off the grain of the wood, Margaret! 😊
Love, Love, Love the caramel and chocolate color. 😊
😊
We call this rotational sculpture, Phil. And dare I say, you are pretty darn good at it. I'm studying your work.
Thank you, Michael! 😊
It's easy to see why you like cork oak. The contrast in colors is beautiful. Not much for grain beauty but the bark and wood contrasts are awesome. You choice of minimal turning is great too. Some things need only a little help. We'll done Phil you do not disappoint.
Thank you, Steve! 😊
I’ve never heard of cork oak before. Nice wood cool bark/cork. Great work once again. Thanks for sharing.
😊
That's great, Phil. I'm glad you left a larger base so there was no worry about it tilting. Also, with that grain there's no creatures jumping out at us.
Bill
😊

Hi Phil Very rare wood, only seems to grow in areas around the Mediterranean. You are lucky to have people give/send it to you and it is appreciated by your
comments to them. The bark on this piece is truly remarkable and as always you bring out the best.
Take care Bob
Thank you, Bob! 😊 I think this came from the SW US, Arizona or Nevada.
Turned out beautiful! I think it looks like there is a Teddy Bear face and one arm/paw by your ring finger on the left side of the screen. ❤🧸

Looks outstanding Phil,, love the fact the cork stayed in place
😊
I love the dark ring between the wood and bark.

Cool Phil...and so is the turning 😂.
The cork makes this piece and not turning it away was the best look from where I am watching.
If we get the Internet back I will watch on a bigger screen than my cell phone .
Then it will look even better.
I sure miss standing in front of my lathe 😢.
Watching you turn helps though.
Stay warm,
Gary
Agree, Gary, it's all about the cork/bark. Amazing stuff! I feel for you, buddy! You will be glad to get back to the lathe and your audience will be glad, too! We miss seeing you there! But, take your time and get it right. I don't wanna see you limping about for the next 30 years! 😊
Lucky you to get ahold of cork oak! It's beautiful wood. Such a rich deep color. And the bark is fascinating. As usual, you brought out the best in it.

Beautiful Phil I especially like the edges of the bark, the light color really sets it off. Got to watch this one again.😊
Cool, thanks, Arland! 😊
I like that you could stand the piece on end on a shelf. You could also have the bottom showing, that turned out really cool! The whole thing is nice, great job!
I almost didn't sign it because I thought it looked good on end with the back showing, too, Joe! 😊
Wow learn something new every day. I did not know about the cork tree. Thanks Phil. Dan
😊
It almost looks like a slab of cake with a thick layer of coffee icing and a big scoop from the middle. Right up there as one of your best cobber. Cheers Deno.
