@@JackMackWoodturning Lovely indeed. But my favorite Jack Mack projects are the ones that fall apart, or explode off the lathe. Your persistence in re-creating something spectacular with the broken pieces and leaking resin is inspiring. I would give up after the second try and pitch the whole thing. But you, my man, press on until artistry emerges. 👏 A rather chatoyant spirit, I might add.

Design: When you started to apply the black, I thought, why don't we see colored pickling on UA-cam wood projects? Then voila!--out comes the red and yellow. I remembered the Mt Angel Library, by Alvar Aalto, has pickled aqua woodwork. Video: The magical spinning look might be a function of the lathe turning speed and the video recording speed.

Great process of highlighting the grain with the stain accents. I am curious about the hole drilled in the bottom with a plug. It appeared that the top hollowing didn’t extend down to the base hollow, unless you cut it out of the video. I thought it had the appearance of the beginnings of a lamp. Looks excellent however you designed its function to be.

Great piece of wood you started with. It turned to become a piece with great character. Some I’m sure fuss about the color but it truly magnified the character of this piece.
If you don’t mind, can you explain why you drilled up through the bottom and plugged it? I think I understand but would like to know your thought/reason for doing it this way.
Well done with this beautiful piece.
