WHOOPS! Hey, this is tomorrows video! Dang it! I have a review video today but, somehow I messed up and they both came out today! LOL! Well, for the first time, no video tomorrow, Thursday! Just watch this one again, OK? 😅🤣😂
I was wondering why you released a wood turning video on Wednesday. Lol
It's ok. We'll forgive you.
I was actually confused. Is today Thursday? I was truly baffled for longer than I'd like to admit. Seems like I trust you more than a calendar.
Been there done that😂
I will call it an early birthday present for me 😊
Gladly because this was a beautiful project
It’s ok Phil. It’s Thursday here in Australia anyway. Cheers 🇦🇺
So glad you maintained the integrity of that gorgeous pine cone. God might have been a bit mad for messing with his beautiful creation! Lovely base!
😊
Just couldn't resist watching this video again. Imagination is one of the requirements in woodturning. You are a master at that!!!!! I get really inspired and want to start tuning again every time i watch one of his videos , CANT WATE THANKS AGAIN VALLERY for letting Phil show us how to work his magic and how to make anything shine.
Thanks, Howard! 😊
Your creative mind has done it again, give your self some credit. You have came up with a way to turn and display something that no one has done before. I have a lot of regular pine cones and you have given an inspiration of how I can use them. I really love to watch you work in all your videos old and new. When you asked if you should put a finish on the pine cone. I immediately HOLLARD no, it will ruin the project. You and I were right. It turned out BRILLANT as usual. KEEP ON TURNING
Thank you so much 😊
Hi Phil don’t be afraid to reveal the beauty inside the cone Dave
We will get a chance at it. Valerie sent a few more over but, they have to dry for awhile. 😊
Im VERY, VERY glad you didnt turn the pine cone or put a finish on it!! The base you turned might have been short and sweet but it truly is the perfect base! Thanks, Phil, for letting the wood and pine cone have its say in what you did!❤
Thank you, Texana, I'm glad you like it! 😊
You made the right decision. Much to beautiful as-is to turn!
I'm glad you agree, thank you! 😊
A Wednesday video!! What a darling project. An adorable home decoration.
Thank you! 😊
I want to see one turned Phil! Can you get another from Valerie, put it between centers, and give it a go? The inside could be real pretty. 👍
I'll see if she has more! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshopI will go check my friend’s tree and see if there are more solid, unopened pine cones. A “turn-able” cone is just an immature cone that did not open when dried. These were large enough to be worth playing with. Think Banksia Pod or other marketed seed pod.
Very cool, Phil. I watched the new video from “The Stuttering Woodturner” as he showed off a load of wood that Valerie had sent to him and now you turn something to enhance a piece she sent to you! What a generous turner she is! Kudos to you, Valerie! 👍👍👍👍
Oh, I almost forgot: nice job of turning, Phil. 😎😎😁😁
Take care,
…..Gord
She is a treasure for sure, Gord! Thanks, Buddy, this was kinda fun! Take good care, my friend. 😊
During Christmas you could get a small string of LED lights and wrap around it to decorate. 😁
😊
Howdy Phil!! That "turned" out nice. I agree with just leaving it as a pine cone. With it sitting in the stand, it looks like a Christmas tree. Awesome!!
I agree, Robert, looks like a Christmas tree! 😊
Very cute. I must say that this is the first time I ever heard you say "turning at 2000 rpm"!
Yeah, it doesn't happen often enough, Steve! 😊
I lucked out, because I did not look for your video until today. My Thursday is now complete. Very interesting piece.
Yay for procrastination, Chris! 😊
Nice one Phil you just proved that less is more, a great Nature piece. 😁😁
Thanks, Lewis! 😊
I like pinecones. I have a few of them just sitting in places around my house, so I enjoyed this video. Thank you, Phil ❤
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Beautiful! I agree the pinecone is too pretty to turn. I love the holder you made!
😊
I appreciate the tone of your voice Phil; listening to your monolog I feel like I have known you for years, and I mean that in a good way. Keep up the good work , from central Manitoba.
Thank you so much, Wayne! 😊
Another masterpiece! Ive never seen pine cones like that. The old sand do flex really works. Pro tip. The best way ive found to find things like those emery boards is to go and buy a pack of them. When you get home the ones your wife gave you will pop up!!
Great tip! 😊
Very decorative. Great conversation piece. Unique. The cone resembles a tree in miniature. It's a Christmas cone.
😊
That was a really great way to use that pine cone. Not an extensive project, but the end result gave you a displayable piece for a really interesting piece of nature.
Sometimes simple is better, Mark! Thanks! 😊
I think I heard that little piece of wood in the chuck say "yikes!" when the giant Sand o Flex came close . Always enjoy your videos Phil, entertaining as they are informative.
Glad you enjoyed it, Marcia, thank you! 😊
Now the rest of my week is a day off. I often thought about turning a pine cone. I'm also a natural kinda guy. No epoxy for me. I just put this on my list. I might even try a light on the inside. It grows on trees. Thank you for sharing Phil. I hope I see you on the next one
Thanks, Albert! 😊
Love it…curious to see one turned…but glad you made this into a display piece…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😊
Great idea to show the pine cone off!
😊
Woow phil, thats absolutely gorgeous. Looks like a Christmas tree.
😊
What a great little piece, i use those cones to make little hedgehogs and apply a shalack finish, a favourite with the kids. The old sandoflex strikes again, great tool, my favourite. Thanks Phil.
Thanks, Garry! 😊
Wonderful idea to make a wood holder for the Pinecone. I love nature's beautiful artistry in this awesome Pinecone.
Love it!!!!! You did such a wonderful job. It IS a piece of Nature's artistic gift.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers. 🤗🌱
Thank you so much, Cheryl! 😊
This worked out perfectly. YT keeps not suggesting your vids to me. I still had to watch the last one, before the next one came out and found this one instead. I'll still go back and watch the last one tho!
Bummer, Bill! YT can get finicky at times! 😊
Oh Phil, that pine cone is stunning! I wish I had a few of those for my projects! Love the holder!
Cool, thanks, Tina! 😊
That's a pretty little piece of wood! Beautiful project!
😊
What a great idea. I would have never thought to do that. This turned out really well.
😊
Good evening, Phil.
Definitely a great solution for the pinecone. Interesting thought about putting a light inside the pinecone.
Thanks, Ray! 😊
It’s fabulous! Looks like a little Christmas tree in the holder.
😊
Very nice little project Phil! I really enjoy it when u find something around the shop and repurpose for something else. Well done and take care.
😊
I did not know what to think at first, but damn, that is really nice
Cool, thanks, Steve! 😊
Phil, what a cracking wee project and you are right it turned out super looking, well done.
Thanks, Alan! 😊
That’s a new one on me too. Neat idea. I can see several uses for the turned base. Thanks Phil.
😊
I love this and it does resemble a Christmas Tree!
Agree, Carol! 😊
What a great little project, as usual you sorted out a problem piece in your own great way. Thanks buddy. Graham UK
Thanks, Graham! 😊
You had me going there for a bit. I was sure it was Wednesday but then there you were! A nice surprise I must say.
I really like the pine cone holder. Elegant in it's simplicity.
Great job!
Thanks, Bob! 😊
Hi Phil what an excellent turn I love the crack in pinecone holder and glad you kept the bark. It amazing what you can make from a scrap piece of wood. The finish on both makes them stand out, it looks magnificent. Amanda xx
Thank you, Amanda! I think it was the perfect little scrap, too! 😊
Hi Phil, That confused the heck out of me LOL.
Lovely little sideboard of coffee table ornament.
I'll have to watch again tomorrow now as what else could I do when having my cup of tea.
Take care Phil.
Cheers, Huw
LOL! Sorry, buddy! 😊
PHIL, I'm almost totally positive that the wood in the pine cone holder is African Sumac. I have seen you use it a few times, and I live in AZ and use it a lot. The reddish color and the rough bark convinced me. It grows all over the place in Tucson and is beautiful.
Nice pine cone holder.
Could very well be, I do remember turning some before. Thanks! 😊
WOW, that really is Cool !!! Ty for taking us along
Thanks for being here with me! 😊
Well THAT was wacky! Never heard of a turntable pinecone or even wonder why you would call it that. It is cool to see one that big and solid. Good choice to display it with a base.
Thanks, Tom! 😊
I really like what you did with this. The base and pine cone are beautiful.
😊
It's a good whoops. Always good to hear from you.
😊
Possibly the weirdest thing I've seen you come up with. But clever idea to enable something unusual to display. Nice one Phil.😊
Thanks, Colin! 😊
Nice one Phil, a bonus video thanks, I think if you had turned the cone it would have disintegrated in the process, love what you did
😊
I have a cabin in the woods and would display that proudly. That you for saving that gorgeous, interesting pine cone.
Thank you, Christine! 😊
A great result, Phil. It would be good to explore the inside of another similar cone, and stick a little light inside.
Agreed, Richard! 😊
I thought about suggesting that too.
Very unique idea. Congrats. Looks great. ❤👍👍👍
Thanks, Steve! 😊
Lets put another comment here for "engagement".
What a cute little cup for a magnificent pine cone. I'd love to see another one hollowed out, wonder if you really could get it to show a light through the points? 🤔. I agree with you about not risking it with that beautiful specimen though. Looks superb mounted like that, great idea Phil, love it. Takes me back to when I was a kid playing in the woods collecting them. No idea why, just to admire the sheer beauty of nature I suppose!👍
A couple hundred miles east of me there are huge Pine trees that drop huge Pine cones. I have spent some time in the woods collecting them in years past. They are pretty dang cool! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop oh wow, if you can find one lurking in a box somewhere maybe give hollowing one out a go.
If I was the slightest bit mathematical I would tell how they describe the Fibonacci sequence perfectly but I'm most certainly not, so I won't! 😂
Lol we got the video in advance, anyway you never stop amazing me. This pinecone holder is a cutie I also like the Crack and the colors. Thanks for your talent 😊
Thank you, Reba! 😊
The pine cones in my driveway always open if we bring them in. Austrian white pines. It was cool seeing the cone shine up with the sand o flex Always enjoy your projects Phil. Thanks.
Interesting! Thanks, Barry! 😊
That was sure fun to watch Phil. Also I was interested with what it was like on the inside but it would have been a shame to turn anything away on it. Looks perfect the way it is.
Looking at it close I see faces in a lot of those seeds making up the cone.
Perfect choices my friend,
Gary
Thank you, Gary! 😊 I would ask Valerie for another but probably wouldn't turn that one, either! LOL!
A pleasure as always, simplistic beauty. 😊
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
What an unusual but highly interesting little project. It just shows how little you have to do when nature provides you with the opportunity to 'go with the flow'. Very delightful decorative eye catching discussion starter. Well done mate, it will fascinate a lot of people. Stay warm, safe & well mate. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Thank you so much, Don! 😊
Aren't you the clever one! Love it, as usual!!
I agree with your other fans, see if your friend has one that you could turn, would be very interesting!!
Greetings from Northern California!
Petrified Pineapple!!
She's looking for more, Colleen! 😊
Great! I wait patiently!
Very clever! Great use of some scrap wood.
Thank you, Donald! 😊
Yes, definitely worth the (self-imposed) wait. A lovely little project.
Regarding your thought of hollowing it, I believe that it would fall apart. The scales are all attached to a central internal stem, which would be turned away on hollowing. You definitely made the right choice as usual.
Best wishes always, N
Good to know! 😊
Nice idea to leave come natural.....base is perfect....thanks for all you do ..
My pleasure 😊
That was a very nice little project Phil! Right now I'm doing some little stuff that's quick and I'm having fun doing them
Excellent, that's what this is all about, David, fun! 😊
A great idea indeed sir. A beautiful piece, outstanding. Thanks for sharing, it was fun to watch.🌿 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you very much, Rob! 😊
Fun project Phil. Complimentary colours and tones excentuated by the feed n wax ,,,, super choices for a dinosaur egg ( or that's what I'd tell the kiddies )
Haha, thank you, Richard! 😊
Turned out really pretty. Love you videos.❤️👍
Thanks so much, Addie! 😊
An altogether wonderful project. That is an awesome pinecone. My daughter has an enormous pinecone and has no idea where she got it.
Interesting, Karen, thanks! 😊
Nice little project. By the grain, the color and the bark, i'd bet it is apple wook, maybe pear
Thank for the video
😊
I think it’s beautiful. Love the stand you made for it. Cracks give it some much attitude!
If your wood shop is like ours you’ll find them emery boards. When you don’t need them of course lol
Or after I've gone to buy some! 😊
Nice fun little project and I would be afraid I would mess it up but your light idea would be cool. It's nice to have a quick little project every now and then
😊
Phil you are the best
Thank you, Ken! 😊
2thar looks really nice Phil thanks!
Thanks, Judith! 😊
Well, for someone who keeps saying you don’t know what to do, you always produce such lovely work 🌞
Haha, thanks, Ray! 😊
A day earlier is better than a day late. That was an awesome way to display that pinecone, great job Phil.
Thanks, Dale! 😊
Thanks for the video Phil. I love the pine cone
You bet 😊
That's really nice, Phil. If you did turn it, I was envisioning it being turned on its side. I'm glad you didn't.
Bill
😊
Looks wonderful and unique !! Beautiful 😎👍
😊
What a treat! Didn’t have to wait til Thursday. AND, you have another video that I can save until tomorrow. Thanks, Phil. Neat little project. I wonder if the interior light idea would have worked?😊
Glad you enjoyed it, Hubert! 😊
Loved the idea of a stand for the pine cone. Did it open up when it went indoors. I’d love to see a picture of it if it did!!
Not yet and I hope it doesn't! 😊
Very nice quick project to hold the pine cone. I think not turning it was good, although maybe Valerie will send you another one and you can experiment to see if lights will work on the inside. As always, keep turning beautiful projects.
She is looking for more that haven't opened, Ken! 😊
What a cutie! You just showed me why I DO NEED the sandoflex! I was trying to picture myself trying to control the extra weight in my drill that already runs away from time to time.
Thanks again for sharing your art.
Just make sure it's a plastic one, waaaay lighter! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop actually, I really like the way you used it in the headstock. I do have a Jacobs chuck with a mortis taper. 🤠
@@triciahumphrey6453 That's the way I used it for many years. I had a lathe but never turned but, boy, I put all kinds of buffing wheels, grinding wheels, wire brushes and the SOF in the headstock chuck. Perfect for that!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop I'm learning ever day. Thanks Phil! 🤠
Another magnificent piece 😊
Thank you! 😊
You never disappoint 😊 thanks for sharing ❤
My pleasure 😊
Enjoyed that it looks as though it's a cast iron finial from a posh fence or bed frame 😅👍👍
I know just what you mean, Bill! 😊
That is pretty awesome! I could actually smell the pine one as you were working on it. I know, weird but your videos are so good, I feel like I am in the same room with you, I use wish your viewers could feel how soft the wood is when it’s finished. I was hoping you would have put the sealer on it but it looks awesome without it. A plus is that you can blow the dust off it if it gets dusty. Love the pine one! .
Thank you, Alice, for your delightful comment! 😊
If you had an inordinate amount of these cones then I'd say yeah go for it. Drill out the inside and try to make it a light. But since you only have one, I think you made the right choice to leave this one to it's pristine beauty ❤❤
I'm with you, Bonita! 😊
You are an Artist - thank you
😊
That was very different, but you’re not afraid of different. I like it. 🥰
Thank you, Vickie! 😊
That turned out really cool
Thanks, Ken! 😊
Looks great Phil. Thanks for showing us that not every turning needs to be a long project.
For sure, Rick! 😊
Cool piece, Phil! The pinecone kinda has a dragon egg look!
It does! Thanks, Billy! 😊
Even the small things can you make little juwels. Good choise!
Thanks, Erik! 😊
Beautiful Phil.
😊
How cool, Phil. It looks beautiful. 😊
Thanks so much 😊
What a wonderful surprise, getting to see you a day early! Always enjoy what you do.
😊
PHIL finish that cone !!! love your stuff
😊
I love it Phil it’s awesome 😁👍🏻
😊
Leave it to Phil. A piece of firewood and a pinecone to make a cute little thing. And it could be decorated for the seasons. Thanks
Thank you, Garth! 😊
Phil, you did the pine cone just-‘tis the way you knocked the tips off and it ended up looking as though there WAS some type of finish. What a unique piece of art you made!
Thank you! 😊
