Home free is truly amazing, I am so impressed with their ability to harmonize and add their own individual abilities to perfection. Thank You for your recommendations.
I recently suscribed and have enjoyed seeing and hearing your reactions. I love Home Free and this song was done beautifully. I must say...thank you, thank you, thank you! You are the first person who commented about Austin doing a little "jump" when he sang..Mary did you (the jump) know". He also does a similar one in Meet In The Middle. Keep up the great reactions, and i look forward to more on your channel.
You definitely need to react to Home Free "Do You Hear What I Hear"! AMAZING! and they made the video in Minnesota when 24 degrees. A GORGEOUS version of the song!!!
Hey Van. The guy on the far left (white shirt) is Adam Chance. He goes by Chance so as not to confuse things since the beatboxer's first name is Adam also. Well Chance was the bass for his last group and while he is the baritone for this group when Tim (bass singing lead here) is singing lead Chase takes over the bass part for the group. These guys are all so versatile. Hey if you want to hear something fun, back in 1966 a band called Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs did a song called Little Red Riding Hood. Well Tim Foust (bass singer did a video from his birthday celebration (a few actually) and one of them is he and a friend and Tim's wife doing that song. It is cool as all get out. Just YT search his name and the song name together. Also if you haven't yet, check out one of the vids on YT of this beatboxer doing about a 9 min. solo called Adam Rupp drum solo. The guys all leave him on stage alone at their live shows and he does his thing. Unbelievable!! Enjoy.. Merry Christmas to you man and all your family. Have a safe and healthy New Year.
When you raise one you diminish the other. Enjoy them both equally. They each have their own merits. Great reaction, Happy Holidays to you and your family.
if you haven't heard "Do you hear what I hear" by HF, arranged by Adam Rupp (beat boxer)....you are missing out...it is a bass/percussion feast and will really put you in the Christmas mood!
I was somewhat of a PTX fan but my husband has loved them for years. I only got into home free about a year and a half ago and for me, home free takes the cake.
I really enjoy your reactions. I love Home Free. They aren't real showy. They are just down to earth good guys that love each other and love to sing. They always leave me smiling 😁
These guys never fail to amaze me. The vocals, the ranges, the harmonies and the entire package just take me to musical heaven. Great analysis and insights from you. Nice commentary 🎄✌️🌺
If you love Tim's bass you should really check out Peter Hollens "Misty Mountin" featuring Tim foust. To get a good example of Tim's octave range check out Home Free's "Your Man" and Tim's version of beach boys "Will you Still Love Me Tomorrow ". I love watching your excitement. I feel the same way Every time I hear them sing.
Tim, the bass, is my favorite singer, also! He has a 5 octave range. You need to hear him sing high tenor in "SNOW GLOBE". He also co-wrote it. He has written many of their originals! "MARY, DID YOU KNOW" IS MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONG. This arrangement was a masterpiece! MARVELOUS! GOD SENT! Thank you for your glowing reaction and MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
"ArnieAdam's" comment explains perfectly my reasons for loving Home Free's version of this (& every other song) more than PTX. There's no better arrangement or talent than this version. It's perfectly balanced! They don't try to out-sing each other & even when they're all singing together, you can hear & recognize each voice separately! That also goes for every song they sing! Merry Christmas everybody!
Home Free for the win! I've listened to many versions of this since it came out 30 yrs ago and up till now , my favorite has always been the Original one by Michael English but HF's cover was amazing 😍 and I can say is my favorite one now
Love this, it’s stunning. Loved the beatboxer and Chance’s low notes. Did you hear his growl at the end of “I am”? Chance was doing the bass while Tim was singing. This is so beautiful. Love the arrangement and the serenity of the scene. Good reaction LFR. Have a wonderful Christmas.
This is a very rare, and I think is the first, instance of Adam Rupp doing percussion on a reverent song. Usually, they keep the singing pure. But, in this case, the percussion is expertly applied. I tend to want to think that it is a homage to "The Little Drummer Boy". Their music and videos are always filled with minute details that makes the audience to appreciate the entirety of the composition even more.
I am a Home Fry all the way...and to me..no one will ever outsing them! They don't need theatrics or add bells and whistles...all we need is their beautiful voices! They are pure perfection! I just subbed for more Home Free!
I agree. The guys have some fun and funny videos. Also some solemn, serious ones. And ones that grab your heart with their unapologetic approach to patriotism and to putting out messages that deal with sensitive social issues. I'm one of the crossover fans of Home Free, Voice Play and Pentatonix, but I find myself heavily in the Home Free camp because they can use the simplest of videos and I'm still enthralled by their vocals alone to make the circuit of reactors every time they release new music. No smoke and mirrors needed. Again, I'm not taking away from the talent of other groups, Home Free is the most well rounded group in my opinion. Merry Christmas to you all! ❤🎄🎅
You'll love Children Go Where I Send Thee. Home Free and Kenny Rogers together! I love Mary Did You Know, especially Home Free's version. Love your reaction ♥
Yep, Tim has a 5+ octaves...and Austin (high tenor) has three octave range...you should check out When a Man Loves a Woman where Austin has the lead. Percy sledge would definitely approve. I guess you got your answer to your opening question as to who does it better, huh. Loved your reaction and I subbed and will be looking forward to Home Free reactions.
Listened to both, both great groups, but I prefer Home Free. They just have a cleaner sound to me. This is my favorite song at Christmas time. Tfs and Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Love Tim's voice, but check out his friend Geoff Castellucci and VoicePlay. He also has a creamy smooth bass voice. Geoff also has his own channel Low Bass covers and just dropped God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. VoicePlay are #TheatreKidsOfACappella.
Kudos to Mark Lowry for writing such an exception piece of music. The big 3 versions Home Free, Pentatonix and Voactive are all great, but so completely different there's no "best one". Home Free's version is pure and simple with an R&B vibe and "bassy" sound. Pentatonix is more of an embellished production and gorgeous. Voctave featuring Mark Lowry who wrote the song, has a more Cathedral Choir sound and stunning. I love them all! For just pure Christmas playlist listening, Home Free is my choice.
I prefer Home Free for many reasons and I feel they are more genuine when it comes to non-secular music. I also appreciate their down to earth their humble personas. Love Tim Foust/ I truly feel he is the best bass and Austin's voice is angelic.
I think PTX is a bit more theatrical. All Home Free has to do is stand in a field or sit on stools and sound amazing. I just prefer the richness Home Free has. Maybe because its an all male group. Tim the bass has released a Too Wop album.....take about his amazing range.....mind blowing falsetto range. Yes he is the bass singer but he puts his 5 octave range to the test amazingly.
I watched the first season on The Sing Off and rooted for the Pentatonix and was so happy they won. I followed them for a bit but not really into acapella groups. THEN...I stumbled upon Homefree. I'm obsessed with Homefree because they sounds like a full band. There is nothing "empty" within their sound.. if that makes since. Every signal person is stupid talented. They are funny, just good people. And Adam...there are no words to describe how amazing he is or a comparison to any other. Though I've known of Pentatonix longer, I can't tell you one members name...other than Avi, only because he's been in HF videos. I did listen to their version of this song to see how it compares to HF ... and it doesn't. Maybe I'm biased but I just don't see them in the same lane. This, of course, is just my personal opinion and it's all about my taste of music. I have mad respect for their talent and as a group, but they aren't my cup of tea. HF!!! ALL THE WAY BABY!!
I love home free!!!! Whats your fav? Van, you really are talented in your own right. Love your videos. Thanks so much the reactions are so spot on wether music watching all in the family or comedians.
Van... I love your reactions. You never need to apologize when you stop the video, it's a REAL reaction. Please keep trying new music. Keep being you. You bring joy to my life. ☺️😊 (You do music because you love it, talent level irrelevant. Sing Van...Sing)
Home Free . Another home run .perfection again . Van you are just the best at reaction videos . Your personality should be bottled it is so beautiful. You should be so proud . Merry Christmas to you all
All these gentlemen are blessed with amazing talent. If you are interested Austin the one with the pure tenor voice surprised me singing in his lower register in their cover of 'I swear', talk about sexy! He and Tim are my singer crushes.
I’m sure Pentatonix is wonderful but I’m stuck on Home Free! They’re simply above the rest. If Tim is your fav, listen to his new Doo-wop song, Come Go With Me. He sings all the parts!!
I wasn't going to compare the 2 but since you brought it up.... Home Free are all really good singers but they don't sound great. They sound like all five of them were the greatest singers of their family. You know how every family has that one person who sings the best. They sound like those five guys were them and got together to sing. They are really good but nothing that blows my socks off. Pentatonix on the other hand blows people away everytime they open their mouth. In short, there are Acapella groups and then there is Pentatonix. It's really not that close.
A fresh, exciting arrangement by HF. Thank youfor the reaction. Please react to some new Christmas sings by HF such as Cold Hared Cash, Full of Cheer, Snow Globe, Warmest Winter and Beautiful Star of Bethlehem featuring the Oakridge Boys. Cheers!
Before you make a decision on your fav version, please also listen to Peter Hollen's version and Voctave's version. For me personally, it is Voctave, HF, Peter Hollens, then Pentatonix. Don't get me wrong, Pentatonix version is fire, but I personally like the other's better. Voctave is the most traditional and features Mark Lowry (who wrote the lyrics). It moves me to tears everytime.
Nothing against others that prefer Home Free, they are a nice acapella group but their tones don't please me as much as Pentatonix does. I guess everyone has a personal preference in music of course, I'm not here to debate who is better, they are each different. I am a Pentaholic and I am still trying very very hard to enjoy Home Free, I just haven't got to that point yet. I enjoy your reactions and the way you critique different music and groups, different view points are always interesting.
Both PX and HF have their devoted fans. I'm in the HF camp, but until I compared this song with both groups a few weeks ago, I was never able to pinpoint why I preferred HF. Now I know. Two things: First, with HF each singer's voice is very unique, but they blend so beautifully. The whole is greater than the parts. You don't even have to look at the video to know who is singing the lead in any part. With PX, their voices are so similar that for at least two of them, I can't tell them apart. I have to look to see who is singing. Second, to my ear, HF has a much warmer sound than PX, who just sound colder to me.
"Arnieadam", As I've told you before on reactions to this song, you explained it perfectly, just like HF did this song. This arrangement is simple perfection! PTX version honestly hurts my ears! I was introduced to them first but after hearing & watching HF, I rarely even listen to PTX except to see how they do the same song as HF. HF's personalities just add to the talent! Thank you for your amazing analogy & Merry Christmas to you & your family!😊 🌟🗣🙏👶👼🔔🎁🎄
I could tell the difference between the singers of PX but HF's version sounded better to my ears as well. While PX's smooth and bright sound works great for a lot of the songs they do, it didn't feel right. HF's underlying "growl" and the greater disparity between their voices does add a depth to the sound - a warmth - and it just worked so much better.
I prefer HF solely because they do t take themselves too seriously. I love that they have fun with everything they do. Their sound is amazing, individually and collectively. PTX is great, but everything is so technical with them they don’t ever seem to be having fun (You’re a mean one, Mr Grinch as the exception)
To be fair. Pentatonix did Mary did you know when they was much younger and much more raw singers than they are now. If Pentatonix was to sing Mary did you know after the growth they went through when it comes to singing, they will slay it.
Just saw Home Free in concert last night. It was great! Fantastic music and great interaction with the audience! I will be going again any time they are in the area! You should check out their Snowglobe video (if you haven't already) to hear the unbelievable range of the bass, Tim Foust.
Do we have to compare? The HF version is pleasing in every way. I was waiting to feel moved by it, but it never happened. I felt the beauty of the song more with the PTX version (I had major goosebumps), not sure why their version did that vs this as they are both beautiful. Anyway, I guess it's more how the music touches you vs how it sounds.
Thank you so much for this reaction! And I know you were truly enjoying it as well!! They are amazing and hope you continue this journey...I know you said you probably wouldn't be down with Bless the Broken Road, but I hope you decide to take a listen
I was really interested to hear the Home Free version after listening to the Pentatonix version. Home Free did a great job and I can see why their fans love it. In my opinion, Pentatonix absolutely crushes it. Their harmonies and arrangements are insane. But to each their own.
@@cheryljohnson733 Three of the five members of Pentatonix are Christian and talk about their faith as an important part of their lives. I don't know about the other two members, but they are happy to participate in the group prayer before each of their concerts. So I do not think it is accurate to call them all atheists. Also, many people who are not religious enjoy the Christmas holiday and appreciate the beautiful hymns and carols that come with it. It is okay for non-Christians to celebrate the positive feelings and messages of the holiday like togetherness, unconditional love, and generosity.
I don't even need to watch this video, it is Home Free all day every day.
Tim Foust, the bass 'ROCKS'.
more Home free reactions please!
Their beatboxer plays a damn invisible harmonica in "Man of Constant Sorrow"!
Nobody, Nobody is better than Home Free. I mean nobody
Home Free ft Avi in cash's "ring of 🔥 " is 🔥
"Home Free" hands down all the way!!
Home Free!
HOME FREE HANDS DOWN!!!
This is one beautiful song no matter who's singing it
Home Free is best. 100%
Could you imagine both groups singing together!!! Heaven's Choir would only top them!!!
Home Free is the group
Omg..I've got shivers all over..
my 3 are Tim, the bass, and Adam Rupp the beat boxer, and Austin the in Brown... those are my top 3... 😍😍😍
Check out there version of When a Man Loves a Woman,,Austin will blow you away
Home free is truly amazing,
I am so impressed with their ability to harmonize and add their own individual abilities to perfection. Thank You for your recommendations.
Tim Faust is the Base singers name. He has a 4 octave range. Absolutely awesome.
Home free is my favourite
Never a question for me.... Home Free! Great reaction, thank you!!
Home Free hands down!
I think Home Free did it better! Thanks Van!
Tim Foust "Can't help fallen in love" playing piano. Very nice indeed.
Home Free are my only choice, I absolutely love them😍
I recently suscribed and have enjoyed seeing and hearing your reactions. I love Home Free and this song was done beautifully. I must say...thank you, thank you, thank you! Home Free is my absolute favorite!!!
So beautiful ❣❣❣...... just gives such a wonderful picture of our lord and savior 🙏 ❤
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this group. Hands down, the BEST!
Tim Foust has wide range and holds D1 for ever like he is just breathing . Also check out Rupp drum solo .
Love seeing the joy on your face when you hear beautiful music!
You definitely need to react to Home Free "Do You Hear What I Hear"! AMAZING! and they made the video in Minnesota when 24 degrees. A GORGEOUS version of the song!!!
I believe Van can officially call himself a Home Fry
Hey Van. The guy on the far left (white shirt) is Adam Chance. He goes by Chance so as not to confuse things since the beatboxer's first name is Adam also. If any 5 singers belonged together,,, This is the group!!!
Love this.
The pleasure on your face was sooo lovely to see, an amazingly good cover , us Home Fries will never lead you wrong 🥰🥰
I agree! I love to watch reactors fall in love with our Home Free guys! It's so satisfying that you'd think I'd discovered them myself. 🤣
When you raise one you diminish the other. Enjoy them both equally. They each have their own merits. Great reaction, Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Wonderful!! Boy you know you got goosebumps with this one!! Lol your allergies!! Okay....😅
if you haven't heard "Do you hear what I hear" by HF, arranged by Adam Rupp (beat boxer)....you are missing out...it is a bass/percussion feast and will really put you in the Christmas mood!
Absolutely do this song if you haven't. It's amazing
Check out Adam Rupp's drum solo
Then you will understand how truly amazing he is
I was somewhat of a PTX fan but my husband has loved them for years. I only got into home free about a year and a half ago and for me, home free takes the cake.
I love this version
Raised on country music; I love Home Free. I happen to prefer listening to the PTX version of this song.
Thank You Debbie!

Im a home fry....Pentatonix is a awesome group as well but im a fry to the core. Love me some Tim Foust (bass) he can sing anything.❤🙃
🌟PENTATONIX ALL THE WAY! They sound like heavenly Angels!!!🌟
"The great I am" is the clincher. Glorious.
Home free for me.... But respect to Pentatonix.
Home free killed this song. Absolutely love their version.

Some of the bass sounds are done by Adam Chance along with Adam Rupp's beatboxing.
Love all versions but Home Free is my favorite!!
You'll love Children Go Where I Send Thee. Home Free and Kenny Rogers together!
I love Mary Did You Know, especially Home Free's version. Love your reaction ♥
I love Home Free's version of this.
Yep, Tim has a 5+ octaves...and Austin (high tenor) has three octave range...you should check out When a Man Loves a Woman where Austin has the lead. Percy sledge would definitely approve. The bass is my favourite Singer as well.
Tim has an amazing range.
The Bass is AMAZING
Listened to both, both great groups, but I prefer Home Free. They just have a cleaner sound to me. This is my favorite song at Christmas time. Tfs and Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Have to agree with you about the all male aspect of Home Free ... their voices are so rich and deep !!
Actually Voiceplay is more Theatrical than both of these groups.
Great reaction.
Thanks for entertaining me every morning.

I agree with you 💯
Well their 3 Grammy awards and star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame makes me think others might not agree with you
This song gives me chills every time 🥰🔥‼️☦️. This arrangement is just too Amazing 🔥🥰‼️☦️
Van, now react to HF's new song What Christmas Means To Me. If you loved bearded Rob's singing before you will be blown away!
I love home free!!!! Whats your fav? Van, you really are talented in your own right. Love your videos. Thanks so much the reactions are so spot on wether music watching all in the family or comedians.
Tim, the bass, his vocal range is ridiculous!
Van... I love your reactions. You never need to apologize when you stop the video, it's a REAL reaction. Please keep trying new music. Keep being you. You bring joy to my life. ☺️😊 (You do music because you love it, talent level irrelevant. Sing Van...Sing)
R n B version from a country a capella groupe of .. whatever equals ... EPIC. Sorry Pentatonix, you've been unseated on this one. We'll see ya soon.
Home Free...100% Now do "Do You Hear What I Hear" I care what you think of it...
I love Home Free Voices! But for me PTX version is the best!!!
Home Free . Another home run .perfection again . Van you are just the best at reaction videos . Your personality should be bottled it is so beautiful. You should be so proud . Merry Christmas to you all
Thank You for your kind words Jon, Wow. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
All these gentlemen are blessed with amazing talent. If you are interested Austin the one with the pure tenor voice surprised me singing in his lower register in their cover of 'I swear', talk about sexy! He and Tim are my singer crushes.
TY for appreciation of their beautiful arrangement! I’m a Home Free fan 🍟🍟🍟🍟🍟and love their awesome harmonies so much! They’re so clean and clear

To be fair. Pentatonix did Mary did you know when they was much younger and much more raw singers than they are now. If Pentatonix was to sing Mary did you know after the growth they went through when it comes to singing, they will slay it.
You are so adorable and have a great voice and can beatbox thank you for your wonderful reactions
Just wanted to say that you have a beautiful smile, and it really shines when you hear something that tickles your fancy. Enjoyed your reaction.
Just saw Home Free in concert last night. It was great! Fantastic music and great interaction with the audience! I will be going again any time they are in the area! You should check out their Snowglobe video (if you haven't already) to hear the unbelievable range of the bass, Tim Foust.
Can't go wrong with either! Peace, Love!
Pentatonix is the pinnacle of a cappella
I was really interested to hear the Home Free version after listening to the Pentatonix version. Home Free did a great job and I can see why their fans love it. In my opinion, Pentatonix absolutely crushes it. Their harmonies and arrangements are insane.
But to each their own.
Each their own except PTX does not do justice to secular music. It's a bunch of crap for atheists such as PTX to cover religious songs.
