Kirsten is an original member. She just loves to change her hair color and overall look. Same with Mitch. The only change has been the bass Avi (dark hair, beard, often called‘Jesus’) left, and was replaced with bass Matt (white coat in this video). Scott, Mitch, and Kristen have known each other and sang together since they were kids. They added a bass and beatboxer (Avi and Kevin) to form PTX and perform on the Sing Off. Great reaction! Hoping you react to The Prayer. That arrangement is a masterpiece.
Yes, Kirstin had blonde hair in "Hallelujah" and "Mary Did You Know?" and blue hair in "Daft Punk." She and Mitch are chameleons and change their looks frequently, but they're in every Pentatonix song along with Scott and Kevin. As mentioned, the only change has been when Avi left and Matt came in.
Kevin "K.O." Onsolo used to do UA-cam vids playing cello while beatboxing. Look up his old vids, as well as the PTX cover of "Radioactive" in which he plays cello while Lindsey Sterling joins them with her violin. I like it better than the original!
Kirsten, Mitch, and Scott were classmates at a school in Texas. Can you imagine how lucky their choir director was to have all three of them at the same time?
Don't worry about not pausing. Pentaholics love the reactions that have the instantaneous reactions that come with pausing. :) We've all seen these videos thousands of times. 💕
" . . . the shorter guy . . . it sounds like he and the lady are singing in unison." (Mitch and Kirstie) They frequently sing in unison. Also frequently sing very close harmonies that would sound like a wrong note if you don't really nail it. Of course, they always nail it.
Yes, when Scott in the middle is singing lead, then Kirstie and Mitch sing in harmony and the 3 of them often switch up. If Matt (or Avi) is singing lead then Scott will fill in as the bass. It's always amazing that just 5 people can sound like a choir.
If you haven't heard Pentatonix sing "Amazing Grace" or "Bohemian Rhapsody" you should check them both out. They also do a really good rendition of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" from The Lion King. And as always love your reactions brother Van
I've got a Master's degree in Classical music, it doesn't matter if you say the right or wrong terms or parts when you're listening - just you enjoying it is what we love :) Much love to all, Happy Holidays!
Thank you for the videos! Fun to watch another person who has done some singing enjoying this group. You're spot on about how well they blend ... I'm always amazed at how they keep a great blend as the increase or decrease volume!
I know you weren't seriously asking, but every member has a minimum 4 octave range 😄 Combined, they've recorded from (E1 Avi/B1 Matt) to D6 from Kirstin (Bb5 for Mitch). Thanks for the reaction!
Listen to them sing Mary Did You Know. This was when Avi was with them. Kristen is an original member. She loves to dye her hair like the rest of us women 😂🤣
I think she sometimes wears wigs, also. But they are of such great quality that sometimes it's hard to tell! In any event, she always looks amazing - as they all do!
You pause, rewind and enjoy as much as you WANT ! This is a reaction and I LOVE seeing your genuine reaction in the moment to both PTX and Home Free (my favourites) ❤
@brendablackwell, When I first listened to P Pentatonix I was impressed that they sounded like how angels represent worship to God. Their harmonies build like architecture. Brick upon brick, tone upon tone, and Melody upon Melody. Whatever songs they construct with their voices last in the memory forever like the great mystery of the pyramids.
Don't apologize for stopping, or for repeating things--that's what reactions are like. Just give your honest reaction--that's all we want. Great stuff. And only one new member, ever.
I was introduced to Pentatonix about 3 years ago, by my then 24-year-old daughter. I'm not sure if anything has ever made me feel the way they make me feel, in my entire life. I can't even give it a word. However, watching your joy and emotion, makes me feel so much and so happy, so free. The way you smile through their songs is how I feel and how I can't stop smiling, when I watch them. I needed this comfort, and happiness in my life right now, so much. I found you today, and I think God directed me to you, thank you and thank God! I love your channel! You have a beautiful smile, extremely contagious!
One of the things I love the most in every Pentatonix reaction video is at the end, when it fades to black: the reactor is often there, mind in turmoil, watery eyes, heavy breathing, hand on their hearts, and suddenly the video goes HEYYYY GUYS THANK YOU FOR WATCHIIIIING!!!!!111 (effect of cat's tail being stomped on)
I listen to music all the time. I play both piano and guitar and sing a little on the side. I truly respect great vocalists who understands their God given talents and perfect their craft. When u listen to so much music and then u run across a group like this and all u keep saying in your head is good God! Then halfway through u catch yourself having a stank face because it is too much for your ears to even comprehend what is even happening in that moment…ahhh….true heavenly perfection and this must be what God’s choir sounds like!! Tu for sharing this video! I have seen it before but u NEVER get tired of hearing it. I could literally play this song in my house 24/7 and never get tired of listening to them…ever!
One of the many things that makes Pentatonix so special is that it isn't about any single one of them. It is all of them together to make one sound. A sound of many layers and depths.
I was couch surfing in Pennsylvania in 2015 when my host, (amazing person and musician) who had a cochlear implant (meaning he is 100% deaf without it on) introduced me to Pentatonix and Lindsay Sterling in the same moment with their Radioactive cover. He could feel the vibrations without even having the implant turned on. I’ve been a singer for most of my life and I’ve been a fan ever since. I love these people. And I love this channel!
To me the Disturbed version is the quintessential version. It just has so much emotion involved in it that every time I hear it, its like the first time hearing it. Gives me goosebumps every time.
Watch them do "Hallelujah" live from their Christmas special several years ago..it will blow your socks off! The official video has over 600 million views, but I think it's time you see what they can do live (sounds exactly the same anyway! Lol) Happy Holidays!
@@525569andrea Thanks! I see he did the official video, but not the live version. He seems to really appreciate their talent so I thought he might like to see their talent live.
I have listened to them for a couple of years. These people are the closest to PERFECTION in singing I have ever heard. They each have a HUGE AMOUNT OF TALENT! LOVE LISTENING TO THEM.💖🌹💖
Great reaction. I saw your eyes tearing up, me too 🥲 Just a beautiful song and they do it so well. Of course you need to check out the original "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel. Art Garfunkel's voice is phenomenal. Van, keep up the good work and deep dives!
Listening to PTX was my first foray into acapella music. Then comments on reactors channels from people mentioning other groups like Home Free, Voice Play and Voctave. Of all if them I find myself drawn to Home Free as my go to acapella group. All are amazing.
I LOVE Pentatonix! Every time I hear them I get full body chills. The only new member is the base. How rangvis ridiculous! They are, by far, my favorite group!
Another great reaction. I knew that you would love this one. The only change in the band's lineup is Matt, the bass in the white jacket. Kirstin and Mitch constantly change their look. Please check out their version of Amazing Grace. It is incredibly moving.
Damm, you turned your back on Em😂😂 great reaction 🔥🔥🔥 Pentatonix are amazing... only one of the members changed though... Avi was replaced by Matt... the rest just changes styles😊
I loved your reaction. As someone said please react to "the prayer' which is off of their latest Christmas album titled evergreen. It is sheer PERFECTION! Keep the Pentatonix coming. You will certainly enjoy the trip down their rabbit hole.
My first experience with Pentatonix was their cover of Radioactive with Imagine Dragons featuring Lindsey Sterling playing violin. Absolutely magic and Lindsey can slay with a violin.
My brother was in a frat at Auburn. They did this in a competition at AU. It was beautiful, but this is so perfect it’s got to be the best I’ve ever heard.
Kirsty is one of the original 3 who have known each other since childhood. Matt, or Lion King as I call him took Avi place when he left. And Kevin who I refer to as Special K, is a one man show -- check out his cover of Down!
Since it is Christmas time you really should check out one of Pentatonix earlier video, "Little Drummer Boy" it is one of their best. Also, "Mary Did You Know" is wonderful, just like all their other songs. This group, while some of the members have have changed is exceptional. I have never heard anyone sing like they do.
In case you don’t know already, this song is originally done by Simon and Garfunkel. This version is great by Pentatonix, but there is also a version by Disturbed that is awesome.
You need to do some of their Christmas music before the season is gone! CAROL OF THE BELLS I SAW THREE SHIPS GOD REST YE MERRY GNTLEMEN LITTLE DRUMMER BOY

I am enjoying your reactions and look forward to see more PTX. But if you could take a quick detour and watch Kevin Olusoula's KOver of Marian Hill's Down you will have a deeper respect for the beatboxer's talent
I follow Kevin and whatever he has gotten himself into!! Part of my daily happy routine, my dog Gracie and I dance our little hearts out!! Congratulations to you and your wife, babies are where its at!! Both of you look like naturals!✌💖😊🌻🌹
There are no words that do this justice: Hallelujah and Sounds of Silence leave me in a puddle of tears at every single listen. Thanks for covering this gem and Merry Christmas!
Pentatonix and a whole lot of other acapella groups were discovered on a show called "the sing off". It was an acapella competition and was AMAZING! You should definitely check out some of those videos.
The "Sounds of Silence" was written by Paul Simon and first performed by Simon and Garfunkel. That is a duo from way back to check out-Simon and Garfunkel. Also, check out " Bridge Over Troubled Water "by Simon and Gardunkel.
I've heard this song many times love it I love when people can sing together in tune with out music as much as I adore music just make a change but it's like angels singing together
You make a good point around your ensemble music director experience. There are lots of people with great solo voices, but it takes a very specific skill set to produce a truly cohesive ensemble sound. Soloists who haven't developed those skills have a hard time in ensembles and tend to stick out. Pentatonix can do all of it.
Im sure someone else mentioned this. A little history of the group.. Scott. Mitch. and Kirsty all went to the same high school Mitch and Kirsty have known each other since they were like 5. All original members of the group Kirsty just changes her look alot. Kevin the beat boxer is also an original member of the group they add him and Avi when they started the group. Avi left on good terms and they add Matt whose been with the group for awhile now.
Huge Pentatonix fan here from DC- :). Kirstie is the same always- she just changes her hair and makeup. Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola have been there the beginning. The black gentleman in the white jacked is Matt Sallee.. he replaced Avi Kaplan a few years ago as the bass. both incredible basses. Keep listening to them.... so many more incredible arrangements. Scott arranges them. Mitch, Scott and Kirstin have been friends and singing together since high school. :). These five incredible souls make the world of music a better place.
Happy Holidays everyone! Thank you for sharing a moment of your life with me. 🖤
Thank you for reacting to this awesome cover.
No. Thank YOU!
You'll really appreciate "Mary Did You Know?"
Hey..... You should hear them do Radioactive with Lindsay Stirling they do imagine dragons song. Loving your reacts
You've never seen Ptx without Kirstie. She, Mitch & Scott are the OG's. Kirstie & Mitch are masters of disguises!
Kirsten is an original member. She just loves to change her hair color and overall look. Same with Mitch. The only change has been the bass Avi (dark hair, beard, often called‘Jesus’) left, and was replaced with bass Matt (white coat in this video). Perfect review of their history! Thanks for sharing!
Kirsten, Mitch, and Scott were classmates at a school in Texas. Can you imagine how lucky their choir director was to have all three of them at the same time?
Plus Todrick Hall was only a couple years ahead of them at the same school.
Kirstin is also an original member. Haha. She just often changes her look.
Kirstie and Mitch are fashion and hair chameleons. If you have to ask "is that (Kirstie or Mitch)?" The answer is yes. :D
This might be one of my favorite reactions of all time. You are precious! Love from Oklahoma!

Wow!!! That's amazing!
yeah, that's true. Mitch has 6 octave and one tone range, if I'm not mistaken.
I also recommend their cover of Hallelujah, Imagine, and Mary Did you Know…
Listen to them sing Mary Did You Know. This was when Avi was with them.

They're one of the best Acapella groups I've heard.
Their arranger and producer are masterful.
They all have incredible ranges - 10 years and they never disappoint!.
Isn't it interesting how difficult a song can sound depending on who is singing? Compare Pentatonix to Disturbed. Very different but both great!
