do you find the sanding disc gives you an even surface, or does the center act different? I'm not sure in what instances to use mine.

I'm using the disk sander to put the initial taper on the wand. There is a block clamped up right by my thumb, which I am using to hold the wand against the block. It has just enough angle on it that only the far half of the disk is in contact with the wand. It's rather like using it as a pencil sharpener with a really extreme angle. But yes, I find the disk can give an uneven surface if using the whole face, especially when not moving the work piece. I keep the wand moving constantly when there is any pressure against the disk (both rotating and moving slightly back and forth), and only use the side that is moving down toward the table. This keeps it a fairly even surface which I refine on the flat of the belt sander (also constantly rotating the wand). I keep meaning on making a better jig to hols the wand better. I learned pretty quick to keep the wand away from the upward moving side of the disk while trying to find the best way to use it for a taper. It will grab the wand and sent it flying. Maybe i should do a more detailed vid just on how I use the sander for the taper? Anyway, hope that helps a bit. :D
