as I lay in my hospital bed getting over heart & lung surgery, I finely find a site that both lowers my blood pressure and is entertaining. Much thanks. Wish you had more
We’re about the same vintage and share the same attention to detail. Recently retired from a lifetime of cabinetmaking, started with my talented father as a kid. Very refreshing to come across your vid. So sick of all the BS online, any fool can have a channel. They all think they are Norm Abram, yet couldn’t tell you the difference between a nail set and an awl😆
Yes, and the shop cabinet work and general execution/organization and cleanliness could not be more professionally done. 50 years of carpentry and I’m feeling like a piker.
@@squareandlevel That’s a beautiful bowl! Did you sell it and if so, how much is something like that? One of the most beautiful bowls I’ve ever seen, that’s for sure. 👍 ❤
The concept and design are brilliant...particularly the methods you used to maintain the wood spacing and keep the resin symmetrical. From my own experience, designing a piece like this one can be every bit as challenging as actually turning it. Well done.
Its some very nice work. As someone who works with wood and epoxy a lot, I'm always dumbfounded by how much epoxy people pour and how much wood and epoxy gets wasted, but this is the easiest path to a very nice result.
Thank for watching! I am still pretty new to this and am curious about your comment. First off the scale might look out of proportion in video. Bowl is actually quite small. Approx 8” diameter 3.5” tall. The wood is all left over scrap pieces so not concerned with wasting scrap wood. As far as the epoxy, I’m not seeing a better way to do this while still easily maintaining the spacing required to achieve the final outcome. Is there an easier way? Am I missing something ? Thanks again. Hope you have a great day!
The only way you might be able to save a little resin on a design like this would be to cut your middle 9 blocks shorter and then insert a softwood square above them like a plug. However, the amount of resin saved would be minimal in this case. Beautiful work by the way.
Thank You so mutsh for your videos! I got an inspiration to try something like you did. Sorry my language, I live in Finland. Waiting for your next video!
Ich bin absolut begeistert. Vor 50 Jahren habe ich auch an einer Drehbank für Uhrmacher eine Aufzugwelle für eine halbautomatische Herrenarbanduhr zur Geselleprüfung gedreht.

I feel I have to warn you of two things. 1- it is incredibly fun. To the point of you will spend too much time making round things. 2- it is insanely messy. Like how the heck can that much mess come out of one piece. Thanks for watching!! Have a great day!
When I saw the color of the resin, I thought you had made a terrible mistake. Wow was I wrong. Beautiful bowl, that was a lot of work, but it was worth it. Thanks for the videos.😎
Well, considering I am terribly color blind choosing colors is a bit a complete guess for me. I’m sure there will be terrible mistakes and lucky guesses. All part of the fun. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!
Small bit of advise, think it all the way thru first. Between the safety gear, tools, and accessories needed the cost easily doubles. I greatly underestimated the additional expenses above and beyond the cost of the lathe, but man it sure is fun. Thanks for watching!
Well bloody done! Also, I must say I was impressed with how you centred the chuck backplate on the work. Very little eccentricity upon first spin. Bowls are a bugger and anyone who takes on the task deserves congratulations. :)
Gosh you have some fantastic ideas! Never a dull moment at your workshop! If I had one of your pieces it would take pride of place at my home! Incredible use of materials! Just love them!❤️😊🦘🇦🇺
Excellent work. It's been nearly 50 years since I've touched a lathe. It was my favorite thing to do in woodshop in high school.

I wish you all the best for your recovery.
Absolutely incredible from design to execution, the finshed article looks worthy of a family heirloom to be kept and passed on for generations!
Many thanks!
As I watched him preparing the wood for resin I came to see how methodical and thoroughly this man thought out each step. 👍
