I absolutely loved working on these machines, you literally limited by the cuts, colours if the wood and the bansaw cuts and glued back together, the preparation was always the hardest part for me because I never knew what the finished bowl, vase was going to look like....very important to keep you tools sharp and the grades of sandpaper from 15 to 0...then I used bee's wax for the Finnish...each thing you make is 1 of 1 , that , while spinning was messing with my eye's a bit.... FANTASTIC WORK, MAYBE IT WAS YOU I SEEN WITH THE MANY GLUED COLOURING PENCILS WHICH AGAIN WAS A BEAUTIFUL FINNISH....
This piece is, hands down, the grooviest and most psychedelic wood turning I've ever seen. And it's, conceptually, the most original and unique design I've seen to date. It's hypnotically stunning. Well done, sir. Just freakin groovy, man!!
This is the best wood turning project I’ve seen, and I would love to own a big salad bowl like this. My only two other comments are that I really liked the stage when you could still see the wood grain patterns as a counterpoint to the rainbow effect and that the only way to increase the visual joy of watching this would be doing it in resin so you can watch the long strings of floom shooting out and piling up. Subscribed ❤️🔔, liked 👍, and commenting 💬 for the algorithm.
So trippy! I don't know how you turned this piece without getting dizzy! Very cool. I would love to see you turn something similar to this into a lamp shade. I think if it were thin enough, the light would shine through the rainbow wood and look incredible! Keep up the great work!
That is some wild turning. The colors spinning by look like rotoscope animation. It's very pleasing to watch them slowly appear as you remove material.
Just the right amount of bright colors that would otherwise be garish against pretty dark wood in a pleasing pattern. As a glassblower I must say your sense of pattern balance is superb. I hope to see more variations on this theme. The pattern reminds me of a psychedelic looking machine shop drill with multi colored cutting inserts.
Glassblowing is an art that fascinates me as well. I love watching videos of people blowing glass. Do you ever film and post it? And yes, I agree that the colors here are spectacular. The dark wood really highlights the rainbow parts, and gives it a necessary contrast, and a way for the eye to rest. Brilliant!
I was reluctant to click this video because YT algorithm is going to flood my feed with 40 million wood turning videos for the next 3 months for watching one wood working video. I hope the end result here is worth my future agony.
Beautiful piece of work! Brilliant concept. My father, an electrician, did similar work, gifting most of his creations to we kids. Dad’s been gone for over 20 years, but I have two gorgeous table lamps and a set of candle sticks that remind me every day what a great guy he was! Now they’re family heirlooms. Carry on posting your videos … satisfying to watch and evoking warm feelings too. Greetings from Ontario, Canada! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
THANK YOU for one important thing. Unlike nearly everyone else who posts these type videos, you decided not to put asinine music on top of it, drowning out the natural and more interesting shop sounds. Thumbs up.
The part where the flakes were spinning around inside (before they were vacuumed up) was the most trippy, hypnotic thing I've seen in a long time, especially true since I'm not high while watching this. Made me question reality for a moment XD
When you were cutting the strips they looked like wafer cookies. Then when you placed the wedges together it looked like a scrumptious cake. I love how the recipe/result turned out!
Hypnotic Indeed!! You are a master at your craft Jack!! Thank you for your weekly videos, letting us viewers enjoy unimaginable unique pieces of work come to life.
That's really fantastic. Love the contrast of the colors with dark wood! Liked it even better with the natural unfinished look before the spray lacquer. Would love to see one of these with just a light paste wax.
Amazing Jack, I had my doubts when you first started assembling the pieces but the final product is stunning. Very unique and a true piece of art. Thank you.
This might be one of my most favorite things to watch ever. Half the time I can't even all the way tell what exactly I'm seeing. It even looks cartoony in crazy ways and I just need to see it. Great job!
For me I think this is the coolest thing you've done (and you have many) from both a visual standpoint and complexity with all the angles. Just love the colors and patterns.
I totally missed when you glued those pieces together at the beginning. I kept wondering how it all held together! :) Sorry. Newbie here. It's gorgeous!
@jackMack - I'm curious why you didn't high grit finish sand this? It turned out amazing! I wish as much care was given to the finish as to the forming and shaping...
This is spectacular! I am just a hobbyist hand tool woodworker. No turning, minimal power. I love using contrasting woods, and this takes it to another whole level! Thanks for sharing.
OMG this is Amazing. Not only is it rainbow, it's a wooden rainbow. 2 of my favorite things. I have never seen rainbow sheet wood before. I need some in my life just so I can say I have some lol. Great workmanship Jack. Always a pleasure to watch you work. All the best, Diane
A beautiful piece indeed, but I would have liked to have seen the glue up stage. It looks like it would have been difficult to spread the glue and get all of those pieces lined up and together. But then again you’re a pro.
Yeah, I skipped the glue up because it was pretty uneventful. Everything else is there though. What Iv realised is that you basically just can’t please everyone. So I just make the video the way I think gives the most value to the viewer. Also, if you enjoy watching UA-cam videos you might like to know what UA-cam rates channels/videos on watch time.. so if you choose to watch your favourite creators on x2 you’ll telling UA-cam that you don’t value the content. I personally don’t mind how you watch. But most viewers don’t know that skipping through the video or watching x2 damages the performance of the videos or channel in question. 👍🏻
I don't know how you thought up the concept and planned it, let alone developed the skills to achieve it. I thought it was absolutely and uniquely brilliant!
4. You are really a skilled worker, I have watched all your videos. All cutting and trimming operations of the work are presented neatly and beautifully by you. Thank you for sharing this useful video.
I know this is an old video but I was reading the comments trying to figure out the same thing. Usually they use resin but all i saw to keep it together was a rubber band.
Im sure it was just regular wood glue. If you are gluing solid wood to solid wood, wood glue is king. If you are gluing wood to something clear or colored resin, using resin is king.
Woodworking is not a place where people generally display their pride. So I guess I salute you for your courage to go against the grain there. Stay strong, the world will come around and accept you eventually. I'm curious what would be the use of having a wooden bowl though. Is it just for letting people know who you are? Keep working on those finishes though buddy. With time you'll get there. And with enough practice you might even make something practical someday too. I knew a guy who did nothing but these practice pieces for years (minus the identity politics of course) and now he makes some of the best furniture you could imagine.
Really nice work, id love to have that, one thing though I think if you would have wet sanded the finish with 1000 gritt and re sprayed it with clear and repeated this process, the finish would loom amazing with no orange peel effect
That is so cool! I love color and this is so unique. And, no resin involved. That is refreshing. I've seen so many videos with resin that i tend to forget woodworking is a skill, in itself. How I'd love to have a piece like that. I love it.

Thanks a lot buddy. Very much appreciated. Have you encountered rainbow plywood before?
@JackMackWoodturning I've only ever seen it here on UA-cam on a couple of wood turning channels. I've never actually seen it in real life.
That’s the most incredible piece of art I’ve ever seen. It’s just beautiful.
it looks like a mistake.

As beautiful and hypnotic as this was to watch, I couldn't help thinking I'd love to see a collab with The Slow Mo Guys.

"chizzle" I dig it.

Incredible concept and execution!! Congratulations!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’d love to see how you clamped & glued this prior to turning.
Glue on all the bits that touch and elastic bands. Loads of elastic bands 👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning I was confused that I had missed the epoxy curing

A bit irresponsible to skip that part IMO. Beginners might try to repeat the build and get injured.
I got a little hypnotized while watching this turn on the lathe. Another incredible work of art. Thank you Jack.
3:42 That looks so trippy, while it’s spinning!
8:52 Totally really awesome!!! ♥️♥️♥️
THANK YOU for one important thing. Unlike nearly everyone else who posts these type videos, you decided not to put asinine music on top of it, drowning out the natural and more interesting shop sounds. Thumbs up.
Congrats! A real piece of art!
Personally I prefer it "raw" compared to shining (final effect shown at the end).
You like it raw?

I love the rainbow pieces you make. Just wonderful.
When you were cutting the strips they looked like wafer cookies. Then when you placed the wedges together it looked like a scrumptious cake. I love how the recipe/result turned out!
This is by far the trippiest thing I've seen on any of the turning channels I watch.
Hypnotic Indeed!! You are a master at your craft Jack!! Thank you for your weekly videos, letting us viewers enjoy unimaginable unique pieces of work come to life.
At 2:03 no glue and a cut to mounting bracket n a lathe. Good trick. Turningablock held together with rubber bands.
Really cool. Never saw it glued.
Man, that finish raises it to another level.
I would mount it on a lazy susan type base so I could spin it as I walked by.😊
I didn't see any glueing together. How on earth is that beautiful piece not falling apart?
I just didn’t show the glue part… or … magic, whichever answer you prefer ☺️
Thats amazing, and no glue!
Simply gorgeous 😍. I absolutely love your crafts. Amazing pieces you have created.
I had started to think it was a lamp shade, how cool with those been in reds and greens for Christmas.
Would you use it as a lamp?
@@JackMackWoodturning In a heart beat. =D
Did I miss glue? I can’t imagine it would stay together without it. Unless you really are a magician! 😀
A very creative use of candy canes!

This is the most awesome work ever! Not mass produced, each piece is individually handmade.
Beyond BEAUTIFUL!
This is one of the most beautiful things made by human hands that I have ever seen! STUNNING!!!!!
It's not often the case but this time the gloss finish detracts from the result.
