I'd be ECSTATIC if I could find as many second hand stores as you seem to have close by. GoodWill is our only close option and its very limited in my opinion. So watching your finds is such a BLAST. Its going to be so fun as you make that house your forever home!
Yes to the cute battenberg lace kleenex cover! You inspired me to be more picky instead of spontaneous. The $25 amber was so sweet for hubby and not too much to spend on the one you love. Happy Home decorating!
Jane Eyre is one of my all time favourite books - it's such a compelling read, the individualist values, the gothic vibe, a young woman struggling against the world. For anyone interested in reading classical literature but feeling intimidated its really accessible, not too flowery and wordy. It just gets on with the story and you feel immediately sympathetic towards Jane what will happen to her.
That was a very successful shopping trip……I like the bottles, the wicker basket…in fact all the things you bought……except the books. I am a member of our local library and whenever I hear about books that are popular, I check on the library site and check for availability and put it on hold. I also have the library app. Called Libby and can get e-books and audiobooks. At the moment I am reading a book called, ‘ The Dressmakers of Auschwitz’ by Lucy Adlington. Something you might like to read, being a sewist. I enjoyed the op-shopping. ….!! 😊🇦🇺
The big glass bottle with handles is called a demijohn and they were/are used for making and fermenting wine (possibly other alcohol too). You found some great items! The bow hook will look so cute with a wreath!
I came here to say that too. One of my friends was really into cider and wine making and often turned up to events with a demijohn (often of dubious quality) Priced as it was, probably meant that someone actually knew what it was for (rather than just a decorative jar).
Love the amber bottle with the double handle and the other ones too. I did a arrangement of bottles similar to the small ones with all different sizes of bottles, all the same colors and then put a few wild flowers in them as a centerpiece. It was really pretty. No to the tissue box cover
Thanks for taking us along with you op shopping. I too am a great fan... and i agree with yiu, gotta be a bit strict and not bing home stuff you think you like...my rule is, youve gotta love ❤ it! You have found some cool itmes, love that huge jar for the preserve room/shed. And those amber bottles... yes theres a cafe that i go to thT only use those for water bottles on the table. Perfect for that. The tissue box cover is nice, prnsing where you put it. Bedroom, bathroom, sewing room would be nice. Love your videos. And congrats, i notice you have clicked over to 400,000... what a great achievement. Well done you!❤❤
There’s a BBC miniseries of Jane Eyre from a couple of years ago that highly recommend! One of my all time fave books, problematic though it is 😂 Love your thrift haul vids!
Great finds…you could leave the brass bow on your door all year round and change the wreaths to seasonal ones…so a lovely spring one, followed by a summer one etc: ( even an Easter one). The demijohn is a superb colour… Dottie
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books. I also highly recommend the 2006 BBC miniseries! And, maybe someday the third book in the Name of the Wind trilogy will come out...
Loved the brass bow hook and the brown jug and bottles. The tissue box cover reminds me to much of the late 1980's/early 1990's. So for me personally no but I likes someone's comment to dye the cover a different color. So fun to see thrift shops in another country. Great video.
I love how the brass bow was essentially manifested. I commend you on modeling intentional consumption. This makes thrifty finds all the more rewarding! Thank you for some feel good content. Congrats on your new home 😻
The large amber bottle is known as a Demijohn. It is used for brewing wine. The amber ones were traditionally used for brewing wine to keep the light away from fading say a red wine. I have four that I currently use at home. You found some lovely finds there. Good for you having a go at the preserving too. I have been preserving food for over 40 years and am quite passionate about it and therefore it is lovely to see you having a go. Keep up the good work Tricia x
I loved everything you found! Thanks for some new inspiration… oh and YES you’re right, it is silly to buy on impulse only re give or sell later on lol… I too have become better at not doing that. I’m trying to declutter and minimise! X
I loved the first two books from Patrick Rothfuss. I have been very impatiently waiting for that third book in the series, the stone doors and wondering if it will ever be released! Such a great series.
I have one of those big Demi jars as my dad used to make wine but mine is clear. I use it to keep spare pennies in and it’s about half full. Once it’s full I’ll finally get it all changed into notes!
Mexican Gothic is one of my favorite horror novels! It's such a slow creep, that feeling that something is kind of off in the beginning just gets stronger and stronger as the story moves on, and the dread just escalates. I couldn't put it down.
Oh you're going to love reading Jane Eyre. The movie versions are all pretty good (there are a number of them), though there are two miniseries, one from 1983 and the other from 2006, which are even better. But there's no substitute for reading the book. The adaptations always leave details out.
I love your find Janelle. The amber bottles are beautiful. I have the same tissue box cover - it came from a “linen party” in the 90’s. I used it in my baby nursery many years ago (my boys are now in their mid 20’s) it’s still in my linen cupboard but I think I’ll put it in our guest room. I have a tallboy almost the same as the one on your mood board - it’s the Fabian Tallboy from Snooze. Unfortunately the image on their site distorts the proportions - worth looking at in person.
Fun video! The glasses are pronounced the same way as chicken coop. There is no accent ague over the "e" at the end of the word. That's what would tell you to pronounce the e like in café.
OH my the demijohn wins for me.... I live in Adelaide and the opshops have gone out of control with pricing ... I rarely go anymore which is a shame as i have a house full of hard rubbish and opshop treasures.... I have a wooden lamp shade that i use as a rubbish bin in our bathroom - so yes to quirky bins... yes also to dying the lace and making a dress... going to have to say a definite NO to the tissue box cover and for someone who spent thousands of $$ on books over the years (i am an avid reader) and then couldn't sell a single one when we moved.. i now only ever get books from the library ... i have learnt to wait patiently for when the popular books fizz dies down and i can read at my leisure and also support the excellent library system that is available here in SA ... LOVE the idea of a produce larder in your shed... one of my favourite memories is going into a friends cellar in Norway and seeing all the produce they made throughout the year .. that we proceeded to eat over christmas...
Hi, Janelle! I’ve been binging your videos lately, you’ve really been an inspiration on my sewing journey! Love the cozy videos you share, best of luck with designing the space in your new home! 💙
Oh I feel so jealous there is no concept of thrift shops in my country 😢😢. We only have on market in my city where we can get some thrifted clothes but not of very good quality or brands 😢. Your videos always fill me with happiness.
In America, we call those giant amber jugs a "growler," and you can buy them at your local microbrew pub. Then you bring it back to refill it with beer, to cut down on waste. You had to buy that lace tissue box cover 😆😍 It's super cute. I wouldn't make one, but i would definitely get it from a thrift store!
If you really like what you call bobbin furniture, keep a sharp eye out for boxes, bowls, & jars of wooden thread spools. They are becoming increasingly rare & hard to find, because they've been replaced with plastic spools. Save them until you have enough to make whatever project you want to make. I have found boxes full of wooden thread spools still filled with thread. As old as the thread is, it's usually rotted. Just discard the thread & make your project.
Wondering if you put the jug in your cart while you were waiting to hear back if you should buy it. Just wondering about the strategy you use when thrifting.
Yeah I just hold onto everything I love when I find things and then before going to the checkout I go through everything and take only the things I absolutely love! With the jug I called Matt right away to see if it was actually something he wanted 😊
@@RoseryApparel I have been thrifting men’s shirts lately and shirring them around the waist to make some very cute shirts. Thanks to your shirring videos.
I don't know why Vinnies are so expensive (Gold Coast), I found a denim jacket for $95???. I do love getting books from the Op shop, there are so many in perfect condition.
Why not dye the tissue box a colour to suit your decor. Tea dye it a nice ecru or a soft peach?
The bow hook was such a find!

I was going to say the same thing…perhaps will be used in the wine making rather than ornamental!
I came here to say that too. One of my friends was really into cider and wine making and often turned up to events with a demijohn (often of dubious quality)
Priced as it was, probably meant that someone actually knew what it was for (rather than just a decorative jar).
