If the 1J blows up in the E36 PLEASE promise you will burn it to the ground, nobody else should own such an unlucky car after you do it's like the Devil Z. Can't someone make a Hydrodip Link logo for the cover???.
You should get Grant to get those solid buckets. When he was showing off his new 2j it had the old style shiny buckets, he might not know about the new better ones. Do him a solid before he gets it in the car. He already has the cams installed.
I absolutely love when Austin helps you with projects, such as the timing skit in this video. His personality is amazing and it makes for hilarious inserts within the video!
As a father of a 5yo who LOVED Trolls movies.... That "branch out" comment about the valve cover colors made me think of Branch's hair in the trolls movies. Happy dadding Jimmy.
Same principle, just done a little differently. I'm guessing Drift HQ are pushing their JZ rebuilding department and giving good deals to friends to promote it. Win win for all. Including all of us watching🎉
On a road trip rn in a car with the radio on blast so I can’t watch but I’m clicking and leaving the volume down with the phone in my cupholder so you get the like and the view to help the algorithm
Glad I’m not the only one. These guys go into so much detail and are so technical but always put it in the easiest terms and it never seems like a How-To video, just hanging with the boys.
From someone who worked at a powdercoating shop, please check your shit after you get it back! I did my best to keep it clean but I can no guarantee it is! Magnetic sockets are a thing! IIRC they're more common in aircraft? But they are SUPER useful especially when pulling a dash and you don't want to drop a bolt. 🙄
I agree with spoon with his SR opinion. Not so much his opinion on bmw m5x/s5x engines.😂 I wish oakes garage would do a proper build with one to give them the fair chance they deserve.
Chris at drift HQ has a dialed way of putting those head bolts in he threads the nut on the bolt so he doesn’t have to fish it in there with the socket pretty smart idea and you can still get the Allen on the head bolt of course 🤘
I have a Foxbody Mustang. Our factory damper is the same rubber deal. They will also spin on the hub, moving the timing marks around. You'll fight correct timeing eventually damaging your engine. Especially with power adders.
Grey Pneumatic magnetic sockets are great and they don't break the bank. Only problem is most don't have magnetic deep sockets that actually work for going over studs.
Jimmy should have watched Grant's new JZ build video to make his ARP stud washer and nut installation easier! Love this video, stoked for the direction the E36 is going in. Thank you for all the great content!
Who thinks that Jimmy and Grant talk about their builds before or do they just happen to be building the same engines for the same car lol. Keep up the great work!
Nice upload timing while I wait on some parts to dry for my first gen tundra 4wd conversion project on this wonderful holiday. Happy 4th to the folks in the US today 🎉
I wish there was an exact rundown on building this engine exactly the way you did it and explain where you could go a little less expensive where you can… if that makes sense?!? God bless everyone!!!
Just put a little bit of grease inside the socket, put the head stud nut into the socket, and then it should stay inside the socket till you thread it onto the headstud
I got magnetic sockets off the Mac tools truck and my Mac tools dealer has koken tools which is a Japanese brand if I remember correctly and they had sockets with a little small ball in the inside of the socket and it holds the nuts and bolts in the socket they’re siiiiiick and work great.
Put the nut on the stud before putting it in the tiny hole. No dropped nuts. I’m surprised he didn’t have Spoon at least port match the head to the gaskets. It’s not as good as a full port and polish but it helps. You should have some accusumps. They are great for pre-oiling as well as keeping the oil pressure up and adding extra oil so you have more oil cooling capacity.
@27:18, now do the same on a vg30dett. you got 5 timing marks ;) and NO auto tensioner. you gotta manually set hta butch. set it. rotate, check, adjust. reset, rotate, check, adjust lol.
if you want magnetic sockets just glue magnet in with window glue, put so less glue so you can still use it in ratchet or smth, if nut get stuck in socket put paper or something in socket so magnet is a litle weaker
If the 1J blows up in the E36 PLEASE promise you will burn it to the ground, nobody else should own such an unlucky car after you do it's like the Devil Z. Can't someone make a Hydrodip Link logo for the cover???.
HAHA STRAIGHT TO THE BIN
He should sell it to The Shannahans so Jack can join Connor in FD or Fion can win Prospec…
😂😂❤❤ love from malaysian 🇲🇾❤❤@@JimmyOakes
@@foamdataservices I’d LOVEEE to see that
You should get Grant to get those solid buckets. When he was showing off his new 2j it had the old style shiny buckets, he might not know about the new better ones. Do him a solid before he gets it in the car. He already has the cams installed.
Nearly 40 minutes?!?!?! Blessed
Fr 🎉
If you need magnetic sockets...rub the socket accross a magnet for 10 seconds, it will stay magnetised for long enough to do what you need it to do
I do this^^^
I celebrate my independence by watching Jimmy Oakes.
I just saw the video of Drift HQ assembling Grant's 2jz and they put the nut and washer on the stud before dropping it in the head.
We need roller footage of Jim in the JZX and Donald in the Cima
Take a shot every time he says dun dun duunn 😂
I blacked out
I just wish he’d put the sound effect instead of saying it 😂
2 shots in so far within 6 minutes 😂
Tanked already
I said this same thing a few vids back lol and now Adam’s doing it 🥲
2:08 spoon speaking big facts!
I absolutely love when Austin helps you with projects, such as the timing skit in this video. His personality is amazing and it makes for hilarious inserts within the video!
Shout out to Brian! Love seeing him pop in randomly throughout the vids! Sick work to all the crew as always, can't wait to hear this JZ singing!!
27:15 solid handshake 👊🏽
Am I the only one triggered by the thump noise every time Austin zooms all the way out?😂😂 (Noting I use headphones so stands out clear as day)
As a father of a 5yo who LOVED Trolls movies.... That "branch out" comment about the valve cover colors made me think of Branch's hair in the trolls movies. Happy dadding Jimmy.
Grant and Drift Hq
Just assembled the same exact set up last night.
Cool to hear you explain it vs them.
Did grant not build a 2JZ
Same principle, just done a little differently. I'm guessing Drift HQ are pushing their JZ rebuilding department and giving good deals to friends to promote it. Win win for all. Including all of us watching🎉

LONG FORM BABY. stoked for dis
Austin timing the 1J is so good. Jimmy doing what Jimmy does, teaching how to do it right
After watching this channel for so long I think I can confidently say I could build a jz without any issue (never even touching a jz in my life)
Glad I’m not the only one. These guys go into so much detail and are so technical but always put it in the easiest terms and it never seems like a How-To video, just hanging with the boys.
1jzgte vvti is non interference, you can torque those cam gears without much fear. Unless youre running massive cams.
Bryan is the best love when he shows up in jimmy’s videos to just say some awesome stuff then leave. Haha
Even a machine shop, yes they might have cleaned it, but did you clean it?
I agree with spoon with his SR opinion. Not so much his opinion on bmw m5x/s5x engines.😂 I wish oakes garage would do a proper build with one to give them the fair chance they deserve.
Yall don’t miss! Happy Independence Day Jim abs crew!!!
Chris at drift HQ has a dialed way of putting those head bolts in he threads the nut on the bolt so he doesn’t have to fish it in there with the socket pretty smart idea and you can still get the Allen on the head bolt of course 🤘
love the longer videos. keep it up.
The purple valve covers look sooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
I have a Foxbody Mustang. Our factory damper is the same rubber deal. They will also spin on the hub, moving the timing marks around. You'll fight correct timeing eventually damaging your engine. Especially with power adders.
You grant and adam in 3x jz e36s.. gotta be done. Need that shot of double door rubs with adam in the middle.
but grant sleeping on the solid dlc buckets hope its not biting him in the ass
Grants pro car is a e46 tho 😔 we were so close to the trifecta.
love the builds!! and the vibez. god bless
Yess keep this jz content coming!!🔥💪🏽
happy 4th jimmy thank you and the team for everything yall do and these banger 40 min videos, we are so lucky!!! enjoy the weekend
Weird ask but maybe one day you could build a Mini Truck or an RX8 would be a wrench thrown in the formula
RX8’s are hideous, that’s why nobody builds them.
I’ve been wanting him to build a mini truck for a few years. I feel like they could do some cool stuff with a Nissan hardbody
+1 for a d21 hardbody.
R8s ain’t hideous
Woooo Jimmy Oakes content!!
Came here less than a minute after the publication by heart, thanks for the content dude
Who thinks that Jimmy and Grant talk about their builds before or do they just happen to be building the same engines for the same car lol. Keep up the great work!
*different engines for different cars tho
@0k_ocelot they aren't both building JZs for BMWs?
Still different JZ's for different BMW's
Its just a proven recipe: e36 for the chassis, jz for reliability
gotta love them long jimmyO vids
Bout time ive been waitin😎
Jimmy be putting in WORK! Much love homie to you and the crew
I have matco magnetic sockets and they work great
NA-T 1J same as doing IS300, i did it in my JZX100
Guys! Reallly? if u have a bigger magnet, just hold the socket on the magnet and it's gonna be plus! and magnetic!
Jimmy and gang, y'all rock! Happy 4th, everyone! Peace
Happy 4th guys and pray it comes out better then before
absolutely love these vids Jimmy and Crew happy 4th
19:00 hmmmmmmuse the right tool from the start and save time....
Got it Jim!
Just wanted to say got my T-shirt in the post the other day super fast delivery to the uk keep up the amazing content
Nobody explains building engines, wire harnesses and fuel systems better. love these videos.
Clutch holiday upload. Happy 4th Oakes crew!
LOVE 40min videos !!!
Such a good vid 👍 also learning how to assemble a 1j at the same time 😂
Nice upload timing while I wait on some parts to dry for my first gen tundra 4wd conversion project on this wonderful holiday. Happy 4th to the folks in the US today 🎉
I love you guys so much😭💕
Finally found some breezy in south Colorado and it smacks.
That engine is badass Goodstufff 🎉
love the engine build content
Low burst fade
Yeesss! The e36 is one of my favorites on the channel 👍🏾
I wish there was an exact rundown on building this engine exactly the way you did it and explain where you could go a little less expensive where you can… if that makes sense?!? God bless everyone!!!
you can actually pass a magnet from one end to the other over any tool you want to be magnetized and itll work temporarily
Do some Link stuff on the cover!!! Would go hard and Link has always served you well!
Loving all the plate time Mr O. ❤
You've got a unique voice, keep using it to make an impact!
Bot
@19:41 there ya go, rite tool for the job. lesson numero uno in life.
1jz ge & 2jz ge are the same bolt pattern on inlet & exhaust. I run a 2jz ge vvti built over 700 bhp loves it
Just put a little bit of grease inside the socket, put the head stud nut into the socket, and then it should stay inside the socket till you thread it onto the headstud
Who else thinks Spoon is a huge James Deane fan
NEVER EVER cheap out on timing stuff! Jimmy did it right with the better tensioner!
A link decal on the coil cover would go SOOO hard. Please do that!
Fire bro
Yeah!
Love engine build videos
Another driftcar video, was hoping to see some progress on the maserati porsche.
JZ MAKES U CRAAAZZZYYY!😆🙌🏼
2:15 the term you are looking for is polythesistic. Also, another great video guys, much respect from over the ditch. 🇨🇦
I would love to see a mighty car mods Jimmy O collab with a 180sx, that would be so sick
I got magnetic sockets off the Mac tools truck and my Mac tools dealer has koken tools which is a Japanese brand if I remember correctly and they had sockets with a little small ball in the inside of the socket and it holds the nuts and bolts in the socket they’re siiiiiick and work great.
Happy fourth of July 🎇
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO OF THE CONTENT I LOVE🥰🥰🥰🥰
I need that dap up as a gif so bad. That shit was poetry in motion 😂😂
The crank is also the same on mazda's (especially mx-5 )
hell yeah its time
Goat
@27:18, now do the same on a vg30dett. you got 5 timing marks ;) and NO auto tensioner. you gotta manually set hta butch. set it. rotate, check, adjust. reset, rotate, check, adjust lol.
My boii jimmy got a fresh Poland haircut
Best 40 min tks
if you want magnetic sockets just glue magnet in with window glue, put so less glue so you can still use it in ratchet or smth, if nut get stuck in socket put paper or something in socket so magnet is a litle weaker
My Land Rover lost the crank pulley at In-N-Out's drive through. It was funny, a couple of thuds and my pulley was rolling in the parking lot.
Glad to see you getting the e36 back together, but man I wish you could’ve made it to the DriftHQ 4th of July event at AMP
I put a small rectangular magnet in the socket for when putting the arp nuts on.
Genius
Rudnik better b watching and taking notes. This how it's done
Lock tight the adjuster bolts on that new cam gear Jim!!! 💥💥💥
PATREON! Let’s go. SR good but JZ better 😂
damn. seein bro go from a small shop to this is fucking inspirational man wtf
Austin definitely called HR 😂😂😂
I have a 98 mustang gt and crank pulley did same thing
Happy Fourth Boys!!!
I NEED THESE LONGER VIDS TO SURVIVEEEEEE
