I am a 81 year old lady that has been married 65 years. I have tried for all those years to make a pot of chicken and dumplings. I hate to admit I have never had any success with it. When my oldest son was little he called it chicken and dumpling because as hard as I tried it would cook together and be one big dumpling. It was good but had to cut it out of the pot. I'm so excited to try this recipe and if I successed my son will be the first one I'm inviting to my new and improved chicken and dumpling dinner. His wife is a wonderful cook and I told her to subscribe to your channel. She is thrilled because of the way both of you make a great video, easy to follow and always delicious. Thank you for posting this and several of the other ones I love as well. I live in Al and we are grateful for your channel and always look forward to the new ones you post. Thank you again and God Bless you both! From 2 of your faithful followers!

One dumpling! That's a funny story! I can just see it sitting there pulsating in the gravy! 😂The only way I know how to make dumplings was by watching the women in my mother's family. Some were 'drop' dumplings and some were rolled and cut. I loved them either way! They were ALL such great cooks.
I have a big collection of cookbooks from over the years. I can remember some days that my aunts and grandmother would get the cookbooks out and just sit there together at the kitchen table, with some coffee, ☕ talk, laugh and read for hours! Such great memories.
One great thing about the internet is the recipe channels. It takes all of the guesswork out of cooking! No young wives or anyone else can say that they don't know how to cook. Every single step is shown. If you will, let me know how this recipe turned out for you! I've made it before and it's great. In fact, I'm headed to the kitchen to make some now! Keep on cooking girlfriend!🌹

Our Wednesday night Bible study group will love this one, no doubt about it♥I may even take my peach cobble, which I make in the same fashion, 1 stick butter, 2 cans sliced peaches with juice, 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Heat pan with butter melting while mixing the flour, sugar and milk, pour that mixture over the melted butter and then pour the peaches in don't stir and cook one hour at 350. Two great recipes♥

What a sweet, sweet man. Thank you for inviting us to sit at your table and also sharing the love you have your wife with us. What a cool recipe. I make chicken and dumplings always for comfort food for people that I love …I am known for my, comfort soups. This is awesome. Can’t wait to make it and also deliver to my friends not able to get up and around and cook anymore. For some reason I do not cook chicken well myself, so I always buy the rotisserie chickens which I find gives my dumplings a little better flavor, but I always stay with the traditional rotisserie chickens. If you buy anything that’s got flavor in it like the rosemary, garlic or barbecue sauce it ruins the chicken and dumplings or chicken noodle soup that I use it for “stick with traditional.” may God bless your family. I’m glad I came across this post.

HELLO from almost-too-sunny Southern California! Well, I made this because I was craving C&D but I'm retired and live alone and didn't feel like making them from scratch. I added a layer of broccoli florets on top of the chicken and then a whole lot of shredded sharp cheddar cheese before adding the dumpling mix. This is going to be a regular in my house!!! I can put the "left-overs" into FoodSaver bags and freeze them for later!!!
Winner, winner, chicken & dumplin' dinner!!!!

I made a half recipe of this tonight for dinner. It was plenty for two people. I used my home canned chicken and followed the recipe exactly except for adding some parsley to the “gravy” for some much needed colour. It’s a wonderful recipe for a busy day when you don’t want something too involved. We both enjoyed it. Thank you for the recipe.

When I was growing up, my mom made Chicken & Dumplings with the flat strips, which my family preferred over balls of dough. But, my mom, like you and me, thought the dish needed color. So while cooking, my mom would add a few drops of yellow food coloring. It really made the Chicken & Dumplings look so much richer. Now I follow my mom's recipe - down to the drops of yellow food coloring bc before we actually taste our dishes, we do we truly do
      consume food with our eyes.
As for where to add the food coloring, I'd stir it in with the broth & soup.
Tom & Melissa, I cannot wait to go to the store for the necessary ingredients and make this dish. I can tell it will be another winner and staple in my recipe book.

I diced up half an onion and about half a cup of celery very fine sautéed that with a little bit of poultry seasoning and added black pepper some white pepper, let that cook in some extra butter with olive oil till half cooked I did string that celery and added that all to the soup mixture before pouring it over the dish. I cooked it 45 min. In my stoneware dish and it had some crust on the bottom which my husband loved and the celery had a little bite still to it. We really enjoyed this easy dish and was so glad for the extra recipe. You guys are just the best at selecting the best recipes. This is a keeper! God Bless❤

I made this for the first time today. I'm sure it is delicious as is, but I felt that it needed something. I know, I know, I generally follow the rule and make a new recipe as is the first time. I like some vegetables in my chicken and dumplings, so I sautéed some onion, carrot, celery and a little orange bell pepper which I layered on top of the chicken. I added black pepper and dried parsley to the gravy. The only chicken I had was a few scrappy frozen thighs, so I boiled those and used the broth, mixed in with some "Better Than Bouillon", instead of the canned broth. I didn't have any self-rising flour, but just used all purpose flour with baking powder and salt mixed in. It was fine. I only made half the recipe as I live alone. Wow, was it ever good. It was absolutely divine. I don't think I'll ever go back to my regular chicken and dumpling recipe ever again. This was just as good and so much easier. Thank you!

Really enjoy your channel. I grew up in suburban Boston in the ‘50’s and chicken and dumplings were an unknown dish when I moved to Texas in 1989. One of my neighbors shared her recipe and it’s even easier than yours. She mixed chopped cooked chicken with a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of broth. She brought the combination to a slow boil. She then took a can of refrigerator biscuits, rolled the dough out so it was about an 1/4 of an inch thick and cut it into strips. She dropped them into the boiling stew and cooked them. In Texas the dumplings are more like thick pasta than your dumplings and that’s what these are like. Start to finish you can do this in about 20 minutes..it’s really good and children love it. Hi from Texas!

This casserole turned out yummy. If you like large amounts of gravy/sauce in casseroles but dish is notbig enough. Pyrex makes a 9 x 13 x 3.5 baking dish, so you don't miss any due to lack of room and possible run over.

I saw your video 7 months ago when you first posted this recipe. So, today I finally made this Chick ‘n Dumpling Casserole!! OMG! Was it good! But, I made some tweaks as well. I think I recall that you said that your wife doesn’t like celery. However, I have to have both celery and onions in my Chicken’n Dumplings. So the only thing I added, was I melted the butter over a low to medium heat in an iron skillet and added about 3 heaping tablespoons each of chopped onion and chopped celery, long enough for the veggies to turn clear. I then added this mixture in the 9 x 13 pan that I already had the chopped chicken in it. I just stirred that all together. Then I proceeded following the recipe as you had written. I thought I was never going to stop and get another bowl. What helped to make this delicious was I had baked a whole young chicken the day before for a meal that day. I had ordered some grass-fed beef from a company called Butcher Box and among the items I ordered was one young chicken! That chicken was so flavorful and tasted like the chickens my mother and grandmother used to raise. The flavor was so intense and tender as can be, Thank you for this recipe…..I will never make Chicken’n Dumplings any other way!!

Really similar to how I make chicken pot pie. Chicken in pieces in the 13x9 pan. A bag of frozen mixed veg or 2cans drained, spread over chicken. Mix 2 cans cream of chicken soup thinned down to pour easy with broth. Pour over veg. Mix 1stick butter, cup each of milk and sriracha flour together and pour over soup. 425 degrees until golden and bubbly. I’m going to try your recipe!!

Dear Tom and Melissa, thank you so much for all your wonderful recipes. My sister sent me this recipe this morning and luckily enough I had unfrozen half of a very large chicken breast and three wings. I thought I would try your recipe since I had no idea what I was going to do with my chicken I had. I boiled my chicken and made my own stock had to tweak it a little just because it's just me and hubby. I added a couple of hands full with peas and carrots over the chicken and left the rest in a bowl on the dinner table. I did hold back some gravy just like you did but I thicken mine with a little cornstarch slurry and added my wings. The recipe was absolutely delicious. I will make this again and again. Thanks again for your wonderful recipes. Sincerely Dixie from Florida❤

I would like to add a hint. Cook your chicken breast first in the two cans of chicken broth that you say are needed. When you get them cooked and they have cooled, measure to see that you have the same amount of broth as you had in the two cans of broth. If not add however much more you need to make the (2) 14.9 oz cans of broth then add your soup.
I usually buy the cardboard/plastic? containers of broth anyway, so there is a little bit more if needed.
Then go ahead and prepare your recipe straining the broth if you wish, but I just use it like it is as it has all that great flavor now from the chicken and we don’t waste anything.
    Thanks for your great recipe!

Definitely making this Tuesday night... my hubby loves Chicken n Dumplings... but its a whole production. Now, u can make it in the summer. ❤🐔🍲 he works for General Motors & the last time he took some into work I ended up having to make it for his co-workers. They work very hard so I don't mind but this would be so much easier!!😋 I may cook a little onion, celery & carrots & add in with the chicken layer. I've got a deeper 9x13 casserole dish... HEAVENLY DISH Tom & Melissa! Thank you for sharing your southern dishes!🍽🙏🏻🧡
