Nice to see this old truck getting saved from being the rusty junk it was headed to become. Would definitely be easier to paint the back of the cab and front of the bed while they are apart. Hope you do the full Por 15 rust kill treatment before painting the frame too.
You should take a grinder and put a wire wheel on it and just hit all of the really loose chunky rust with it before the por15. Lotta work I know but might last longer idk
Good idea with the POR15. I've been doing a lot of my 1990 with it. The stuff is awesome. Don't let it dry on you or you'll be living with it for a while.
POR 15 is good stuff. i found the best is to put it on metal that is roughed up like sand blasting. but that can be hard with a whole frame. make sure you do all the prep work and follow the instructions to a T. otherwise it will just flake off and not be worth a crap.
I've pretty much rebuilt my 90 from the ground up so this is kind of deja vu to me. 😁 Kind of nice to watch somebody else do it though. Might be a good idea to change the fuel pump while the bed is off.
I had that issue on my 82, the frames appear virtually unchanged since back then. Clean out the drain holes (even add a few) and flush out the frame rail boxes. I was surprised how much stuff came out.
I’m in Melbourne Australia I’ll love to come get that front bar but we’re still in lockdown I’m only permitted to travel 12miles from home if it’s not for work!! Love your videos mate! I’m going to in the garage now to slam another pipe in my chassis !!
Nice work. Wurth rust converter would have been a really good product to put down first. If stops the rust 'reaction' and then provides a great base for your POR15 or whatever else you choose to use. Anyone out there have a video or share of welding in SAFE T CAP frame sections for a 4th gen 4Runner? I have a 2003 I got for free that has 2 spots on the frame to repair.
Too bad you don't live around here in WI. I couldn't afford it anyway, but I was given a 2002 Kia Sportage from someone at my church. It only has 126, 200 miles on it, but it needs work. Your very knowledgeable about vehicles. Anyway thanks for the videos on your project. God Bless
@@alexzipp585 It's not that, but I can't afford anything right now. I'm on SSD and my ex wife took my car over 10 yrs ago. Someone at church gave me this car as a blessing, but it needs work right now that I cannot afford. Thank you anyway. God Bless
When doing the cross member you should have drilled holes in both sides of the larger tube, then slid the smaller tube inside and plug welded it in a couple spots
@@austinniemela if its possible to direct message you about the bumper I dont know how. If nobody else has grabbed it yet I'd still like to grab it. Hope this doesn't get lost in the comment section, thanks.
It's too bad you guy's don't have Land Cruiser pick up trucks in the US like Australia or Africa because we have a 4.5L EFI inline 6 that comes out in the older Land Cruiser's and if you could put a motor like that in this truck of yours it would have been soo dope 🔥 because the inline 6 motor is a dual overhead cam motor like the 2JZ but it's non turbo. Although it has huge torque at very low RPM's so it's a great motor to swap because it's so cheap
I watch your videos on your red toyota truck project up to this new one...Just wondering about what year model and millage on that truck coz im planning to buy a 1998 tacoma 3.4L V6 but it has 420000 km on it...Owner said it runs great and no rust with some services done to it...Any advice before buying the truck...$8,500 cad asking...
Hi Austin you really should stop filming the welding part , as the glare eats the camera sensor - its to bright . Never the less another great work on the truck - Go AVR

Thorough and precise; practical.
Much appreciated!

Good idea with the POR15. I've been doing a lot of my 1990 with it. The stuff is awesome. Don't let it dry on you or you'll be living with it for a while.
Looking good. I was expecting the frame to be worse. Here in Texas we don’t have the salted rust issues. We do have farm truck rust though.
Really admire your work buddy 👊👊👍
I appreciate that!

Awesome Austin!
what I did on mine is clean the inside of the frame, inside gets muddy over the years which created humidity. This why they rust!

so funny when the u joint was just destroyed “thats sweet” 😂

😂😂😂 you gotta know when to take it out as well lol
Another nice vid I’m buying my 93 Toyota pick up back in November so I’m paying close attention.
Awesome work man
Thanks!!!!
I love the work you do

I'm a huge fan.
@ 9:47 that driveshaft angle looks a little wonky. Is it supposed to have that kind of offset?
They are slightly offset from the factory to keep the ujoint operating at all times so they dont have a chance to dry out
Got my swag and a new upload. Nice!
Awesome!!
Been looking a bumper like that for ages
Only issue I’m in Australia 🇦🇺

Thanks!
Now that the bed is off what about a complete wooden bed along with wooden tailgate? What do you think? To much maintenance?
👍
I use corroseal for chassis then por15. My 89 Toy frame looks new.
Corroseal is awesome it's works great
found two manual 5VZ omputers today, one outta a 98 4runner, one outta 98 tacoma
I found a ECU!
Great bro 👋💜💜☺
Hey, how come the trim line on that bed is about an inch and a half higher than the cab's trim line?
I was messing with the body lift

Do you still have the front bumper ? Btw I have the Hilux 1995 that came from my Grandfather. Im going to fix it like yours, wish me luck.
And this is why fully boxed frames are always stupid.
