Let's make our Top 'Hair Metal' Albums of ALL TIME lists and put Back In Black and Women And Children First as our respective #1 'hair metal' albums... So, what ARE your actual #1 hair metal albums of all time?
If you watched the channel in the past you'd know that even though we talk about hair metal and I title a lot of the videos as something hair metal related, we use that term pretty broadly to include metal, hard rock, and most related stuff in between.
1) Badlands - S/ T 2) Motley Crue - Shout 3) Def Lep - Pyromania 4) Tesla - Mechanical 5) White Lion - Pride 6) Dokken - Back for the Attack 7) Great White - Once Bitten 8) Ratt - Cellar 9) Skid Row - Grind 10) Lillian Axe - Love & War This list obviously includes “hair” metal only. If bands like Maiden, Queensryche, or Priest are to be included, every one of my top ten drops out of the top ten.
@@thefonzkiss If you'd ever watched our channel you'd know that, even though the channel often uses the term hair metal, we include hard rock and heavy metal in our discussions.
Just found the channel randomly. I am happy I did as I got into 80's metal and 80's in general later in life so I am always finding new stuff on my own but I've watched a few vids on the channel and already have multiple orders on Ebay for CDs for bands mentioned on the channel and for bands (Ratt, Skid row) I know the big songs but want to explore other not known songs or song played a lot from the albums. Also starting to listen to Girlschool someone I don't think I would have found on my own. I grew up in the 80's (82) but grew up with different music in my teens (90's) so i missed a lot of good stuff ( Early 90's music metal, end of hair metal even grunge :/ etc) but I can say it is still exciting to find this music now even though late. I love the 80's vehicles, style and music so it all kind of helps me go back in my mind and remember what was a great decade and a bit from my childhood. Keep it up!

Slave to the Grind debuted at #1 in july of 91. They had alot of airplay in major markets across the US. Maybe not Fargo but I lived in Denver at the time and they played all their singles constantly.
That may be true about Denver, but if you check the national airplay charts, those singles bombed. Monkey Business didn't even make the Billboard Top 100 and Wasted Time only made it to 88.
You should do critiques from 80's/early 90's hair bands who DIDN'T get signed and perhaps should've. There are a lot of great bands like 'Outta' the Blue/The Szuters' from Cleveland who moved out to LA at the tail end of the ride. Russ Parish and Travis Haley from 'Steel Panther' played in the band at one point before Russ got recruited by Rob Halford to join 'Fight'. My old band 'Lazarus' released all of our material on Demon Doll Records a few years ago. I'd love to hear a critique. People say we sounded like Tesla meets Dangerous Toyz. Our singer had the rasp of Jeff Keith but I don't hear DT in our music at all.

Top notch picks! I am gonna put my ten in no particular order: Ratt- Out of the Cellar Vain - No Respect Blue Murder - S/T Dokken - Under Lock and Key Great White - S/T (could have went with Once Bitten too) Kix - Midnite Dynamite (Blow My Fuse almost beat it out) Badlands - S/T Def Leppard - Pyromania Tigertailz - Bezerk LA Guns - Cocked & Loaded (I almost went with the first album) Obviously albums like Appetite for Destruction and Whitesnake 87 are classics, but I'm kind of burned out from some of the songs on those albums.
Great list, man! I was really amazed when we got done and neither of us included Appetite, but I think you're right--you hear it so much that you kind of wore it out. Doesn't mean it's not a phenomenal album. Man, I was close to having Vain in my list. Thanks for all your support, Brother!
Very good episode. I am very mainstream. 1. Appetite 2. Pyromania 3. 1984 4. Revenge 5. Cherry Pie 6. Motley 94 7. Ultimate Sin/ No Rest 8. Look what the cat 9. Skid Row 10a.Dancing Undercover 10b. Britny Fox 10c. 5150 10d. Dog Eat Dog
I could only do 5 that I could listen to every song on the album. 5. Operation Mindcrime, Bryan is correct about it, had somebody suggest it years ago wasn't disappointed. 4. L.A. Guns Hollywood Vampires, some reason I like every song on it. Warrant Cherry Pie and Dog Eat Dog both tied pretty much 3 & 2, or 2 & 3. Jani Lane, best singer songwriter of the era. and #1 always will be because it helped me through rough years as a teen in a bad era of my home life... Poison Flesh & Blood! also contains my favorite song of all time, as it reminds me of said rough times in life,... Life loves a tragedy.
Thanks for the list, Brother. I need to revisit Hollywood Vampires, it's been a long time. And I am right with you on "Life Loves a Tragedy," one of my favorite Poison songs of all time--should've been a single.
@@thefonzkiss Thanks for the info, I didn't use the term hair metal, Its just music. Outside of stickers on a product labels are just a divide and conquer technique to make a group of people disagree and fight with one another. You like what you like, and call it what you want. Lets stay civil and use (if you got nothing good to say, why say anything at all) approach.
1: Vain "no respect", Warrant "Cherry Pie", Quiet Riot "Condition Critical", Def Leppard "Hysteria" Firehouse "1st album" Sleeze Beeze "Screwed blued and tatooed" Ratt "1999 self titled" Sweet "desolation blvd" Motley Crue "too fast for love" Dokken "back for the attack" Tesla "the great radio controvercy" Enuff-Z-Nuff "self titled, strength and animals with human intelligence"

Def Leppard - High N Dry 4 Skid Row - Slave to the Grind 3 Alice in Chains - Facelift 2 Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime 1 Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Lead singer from Slik Toxic did continue on for a while in a couple of different bands. Revolver was one, I think Famous Underground was another. Neither was as high up there as Slik Toxic, but they were not bad.
Operation mindcrime is a great album I seen them open up for Metallica and I was their to see Metallica and me and about 8 friends walked out queensrych fans outstanding band live also
A band will not make it if the members dont get along,my favorite band is dokken and look what happened, they were on the verge of getting a huge payday to get along and keep going
Nope, can't agree with the year 86 but very close,1985 With Motley Crue s Theater of Pain album and image were straight glam and easily their most glam record by a mile
Should have done a top 50. No Kix, the predecessor to Poison. No Tora Tora, metal from the south. No Tesla, no bang tango, no every mother's nightmare, no ezo, and no spread eagle. Appreciate the blue murder, badlands, and electric boys choices, as well as some of the more popular bands and the album choices, but missing quite a bit.
Cinderella... (IMO) only had 2 good songs Last Mile and Hard to find the words are A+. Gypsy Road and Push Push, start out sounding almost the same. Maybe 6 others that were ok, but the songs Night Songs and Nobodys Fool, I have tried and tried and tried, but those two are just awful songs. I know what opinions are like, I get it, as my channel name says Im workin on it and so ill see myself out. Still like the HairMetalGuru channel! lol
Haha, while I completely disagree with you about Cinderella, I appreciate you doing it in a non-asshole-ish way! And thanks for supporting the channel, man, I appreciate it!
I have a hard time calling GnR hair metal. Kinda for the same reason Van Halen isn’t on the list. They’re both huge influences, probably the main 2 really, but GnR just doesn’t sound like a hair metal band. They just don’t sound like metal band to me at all. They sound like The Rolling Stones or Aerosmith but through high gain Marshall amps. I don’t get mad if people think I’m wrong. It’s kinda borderline honestly.
I love this music, but what is "Hair Metal"? I was on the Strip in the 80's and saw many great bands, but nobody called it "Hair Metal". The main terms that were used were as follows: "Hard Rock", "Glam Metal", "Pop Metal" etc... Anyway, I dig the show fellas. It's going to be pretty damn hard to come up with a Top 10. BTW, now in 2024 The Whisky A Go Go is still having "Hair Metal" concerts all of the time. Life is Good!
I've made my peace with the term. I used to hate it, but I've gotten over it, and decided to embrace it. Check out a video I did a few months ago called "In Defense of the Term Hair Metal." Thanks for the kind words!
I titled it favorite hair metal albums, but in the intro to the video I did say that it would include hard rock and heavy metal, not just hair metal. You know what Mick Jagger said, "It's only rock'n'roll, but I like it."

In no particular;ar order
- Skid Row "Slave to the Grind"
- Cinderella "Long Cold Winter"
- Dokken "Back for The Attack"
- Blue Murder S/T
- Lynch Mob "Wicked Sensation"
- Poison "open Up and Say...Ahh!"
- Love/Hate "Black Out in the Red Room"
- Def Leppard "Pyromania"
- Motley Crue "Shout At The Devil"
- Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet"
Great list, man. I was close to including Slippery and Shout at the Devil.
Anthony this is James love when you and Bryan do a video together I said it before you two are always gold anyway you made this video real hard for me I can pick 20 to 30 albums so here are my top 10 boy this was freakin hard

Great list, Brother! It was really hard for me not to include Kix and Shout at the Devil. Thanks for all your support, man.
@@HairMetalGuru419 anytime my brother
Ratts album is so powerful, it made the poster fall off the wall.
It has that effect on shit.
1. Appetite
2. Hysteria
3. New Jersey
4. Skid row
5. Dirty rotten filthy stinkin
7. Flesh and blood
8. Cocked and loaded
9. Dr feelgood
10. Empire
Love all of those
Top notch picks! I am gonna put my ten in no particular order:
Ratt- Out of the Cellar
Vain - No Respect
Blue Murder - S/T
Dokken - Under Lock and Key
Great White - S/T (could have went with Once Bitten too)
Kix - Midnite Dynamite (Blow My Fuse almost beat it out)
Badlands - S/T
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Tigertailz - Bezerk
LA Guns - Cocked & Loaded (I almost went with the first album)
Obviously albums like Appetite for Destruction and Whitesnake 87 are classics, but I'm kind of burned out from some of the songs on those albums.
1. Appetite
2. Pyromania
3. 1984
4. Revenge
5. Cherry Pie

10a, b, c, d. I see what you did there.
Love your list, man. I was so close to including Appetite and Revenge....
Operation Mindcrime isn’t hair metal FFS.
@@thefonzkiss You should try getting a life FFS
@@thefonzkiss Thanks for the info, I didn't use the term hair metal, Its just music. Outside of stickers on a product labels are just a divide and conquer technique to make a group of people disagree and fight with one another. You like what you like, and call it what you want. Lets stay civil and use (if you got nothing good to say, why say anything at all) approach.
@@WorkingOntheNonsense Lets stay civil and use (if you got nothing good to say, why say anything at all) approach.
1: Vain "no respect", Warrant "Cherry Pie", Quiet Riot "Condition Critical", Def Leppard "Hysteria" Firehouse "1st album" Sleeze Beeze "Screwed blued and tatooed" Ratt "1999 self titled" Sweet "desolation blvd" Motley Crue "too fast for love" Dokken "back for the attack" Tesla "the great radio controvercy" Enuff-Z-Nuff "self titled, strength and animals with human intelligence"

Appreciate it, Brother!
My real list.
10 Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
9 Shotgun Messiah - Second Coming

5. Def Leppard - High N Dry
4 Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
3 Alice in Chains - Facelift
2 Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
1 Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Ummmm....
Van Halen is Ground Zero for Hair Metal. Eruption is the solo that launched a thousand hair bands!
I completely agree.
Lead singer from Slik Toxic did continue on for a while in a couple of different bands. Revolver was one, I think Famous Underground was another. Neither was as high up there as Slik Toxic, but they were not bad.
What a mind crime not having Appetite on either list. Just wow.
Haha, I completely agree. I love the album, but it's probably just become overplayed imo.
Operation mindcrime is a great album I seen them open up for Metallica and I was their to see Metallica and me and about 8 friends walked out queensrych fans outstanding band live also
Saw them do Mindcrime in its entirety in ‘91 and it was mind blowing. Best show I ever saw
Hey, man, thanks for sharing that! I know Bryan fuckin' worships Mindcrime.
My #1 thr #4 would b Lillian Axe and their 1st 4 albums.
The time went by its over
@@DanielAgado Go to bed, Danny, you’ve got school in the morning.
The Twisted Sister album after Stay Hungry was Come Out and Play.
Shit, that's right. Thanks, man.
Come Out and Play was the turd Twisted Sister squeezed out after Stay Hungry.
Haha, that's right
A hair metal turd is still better than anything on the charts these days.
A band will not make it if the members dont get along,my favorite band is dokken and look what happened, they were on the verge of getting a huge payday to get along and keep going
You're absolutely right man. Being in a band is like being in a marriage is what a lot of musicians say...
0:26 I want that on my gravestone.
Haha
Lets go!!!
Let's!
I LOVE Electic Angels!
Same! That album deserved so much better...
You need to hear High Gear and Now Hear this by Howe II!!!
Okay, I am listening to High Gear right now because of your suggestion. It'd better not suck! ;-)
@@HairMetalGuru419 OH IT DOESN'T, IT SLAPS😃😃😃
@@HairMetalGuru419 what were your thoughts on the 2 albums👀
Top three of all time: #3 gnr AFD, #2 Queensryche’s Mindcrime #1 Spinal Tap‘s Shark Sandwich, despite the review 😂
Shit Sandwich
I'm absolutely shocked that neither of included Appetite.
A top 50 would've been great, but the video would've been 10 hours long, haha. Anyway, thanks for watching and sharing some of the bands we missed.
so that Electric Angels Vocalist.... Shane.... is that the same Shane who sang for Law and Order?
Nope. That reminds me, I need to revisit that Law and Order album. Thanks for watching!
🤘🤘
How in the world is Guns N' Roses not on here
I'll be honest... I'm baffled about it as well.
Hair metal is just a term used by people but originally used as a insult
I've made my peace with the term. I used to hate it, but I've gotten over it, and decided to embrace it. Check out a video I did a few months ago called "In Defense of the Term Hair Metal." Thanks for the kind words!
Great, today I discovered thath Queensryche and AC/DC are hair Metal 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. What a fucking channel 😅
I titled it favorite hair metal albums, but in the intro to the video I did say that it would include hard rock and heavy metal, not just hair metal. You know what Mick Jagger said, "It's only rock'n'roll, but I like it."
Queenscryche isn’t HaIR MEtaL Bryan GAWD ! 😁
And you don’t remember the twisted sister albums because they just aren’t any good 😂🤘
Funny thing is that someone already said this same thing.
Dude.
@@HairBandBasement yea I seen them around 😁
@@HairBandBasementnot sure if you've heard all these but just ran across this today m.youtube.com/@UnheardVH
Man it's hard to pin it down to a top 10 but in no specific order mine would be.
1. Blue Tears-S/T
2. Magnum-On A Storyteller's Night
3. Pretty Boy Floyd-Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz
4. Motley Crue-Too Fast For Love
5. Melidian-Lost In The Wild
6. Alleycat Scratch-Deadboys In Trash City
7. KISS-Crazy Crazy Nights
8. Harem Scarem-S/T
9. Tigertailz-Bezerk
10. Smashed Gladys-Social Intercourse
I remember a PJ from Canada who liked a lot of these albums, he's the one who got me into Blue Tears. Absolutely in my top 10 too. Great list.
Melidian what a great record that one,the best on that list for me.
Fuck, I LOVE that Blue Tears album. Would've been easy to include here. Great list, Brother.
Queensryche is not nor will they ever be hair metal. I even fast forwarded thru that part. Ol buddy lost some cred with that ridiculous take!
Um, the episode starts with Guru saying “Top hair metal/metal/rock albums.” Queensryche is metal but thank you for playing.
And the joke is on you. I had no “cred” to start with.
@@HairBandBasement um the title is “our favorite hair metal albums of all time… from 10 to 1”. So ummm yeah… the joke isn’t on me. 😂
@@heathertiller3644 Oh, you got me! Thank you for the witty “tHaTs NoT hAiR MeTaL” argument that never gets old. Ever. But if you want to fast forward the show, then that’s your loss.
And the joke on you was my “cred.” And I still have none and that same joke still remains on you.
@@HairBandBasement oh there’s no argument, it’s simple, Queensryche is not now nor have they ever been hair metal. But we can agree to disagree!
I titled it favorite hair metal albums, but in the intro to the video I did say that it would include hard rock and heavy metal, not just hair metal. One of my top 10 was AC/DC's Back in Black, and they certainly aren't hair metal, along with Queensryche.
