Little tip - if your background is messy and your subject in front of it is lost to similar color and distracting landscape - then consider using a shallow depth of field. If you are shooting at the beach and there is beautiful and scenic landscape - don't use shallow DOF. As a colorist using software like Davinci Resolve it is really easy for me to add lens blur to a background, but near impossible to make blurry backgrounds less blurry. So in this day and age, treat DOF like saturation - don't bake in what you can add after it's cooked.

Thanks Lila! Great refresher and reminder video with a few gold nuggets :) Looking forward to the audio levels video, I work for a place that wont allow anything louder than a -14db... I usually use a hard limiter but an audio tutorial to make the sound full with killing the audio would be nice.
Would love a video on using a mirrorless as a solo creator to film yourself. No shot variety and angles like everyone says, but more so how to use full manual and/or what mode (aperture priority?) when you need to get the shot dialed in without the subject, since you’re the subject. Like how do I make sure I’ll be in focus, in frame, not over or under exposed, if I’m behind the camera setting it for a tripod then hit record and run in front of the camera for my shot?
@@lilafromyoutube thank you! I see a lot of "how to shoot solo" and it's all about getting a lot of shot variety and using tripods....and it's like "yeah but how do I get my manual settings dialed in without a subject there?!"
Great video as always. The difference on the two clips to me the one with captioning make my ADHD go crazy. I focus on the words in the caption yet can’t read them fast enough to catch everything while completely ignoring the video going behind them. I personally don’t use them for this reason. And yes I understand that my videos would do better if I included them, I just can’t do it.
Fair enough! I try to play around with full sentences vs words on screen. But I totally get how word for word can be distracting when you have ADHD. Captions are really important for socials (depending on your goal) because lots of people don’t have their sound on. Maybe try adding sentences? So, slower captions?
@@lilafromyoutube eventually I will add captions I just need to find a way that less distracting for me and still fit my style. Thank you for the advice.
I would love to pick your brain one day over an Instagram chat Lila. I have so many questions. Thanks for providing us all with great content to improve ourselves. 🤠
Awesome video! I've definitely made these mistakes myself when I just started. Just something of note, that light in your video seems a bit too bright for the talking head, a bit distracting for me.
@@lilafromyoutube Because in the second one it feels like i'm looking through the window in a car. i mean i want to see it longer to see people's expressions, atmosphere, energy but i can't because it's too fast.
That’s great advice on the timing of cuts and the variability.
Great tips! All about keeping it intentional! Excellent advice as always.
Thanks Casey!! Glad you found it helpful
I liked version 2, but this is so good! You are dropping BOMBS!

I really could have needed this video 14 years ago when I started.
Your channel is a gift for new filmmakers! Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻
Ha! Thanks Phil!
@@lilafromyoutube I really wish you that your channel is gonna blow up like Peter's and Matt's and all the big UA-camrs.
You definitely deserve it 👍🏻
Aw, thanks lovely! I think my channel has been doing well (although right now it’s a bit in the gutter but working on it haha). Steady wins the race?

Your videos are always very informative Lila. Thank you. I’m a beginner so this information is very helpful. 🙌🏻
🙏🏻 glad to hear it. Any specific things you’re currently trying to figure out and could use some help with?
@@lilafromyoutube I would like to learn more about audio. Like you were explaining a little in this video about the setting of the audio etc.

@chadoliver5160 totally get that! You can also turn on auto generated captions, but the accuracy is debatable sometimes haha
@@lilafromyoutube agreed. I’ve done that a few times but like you said it’s always accurate.
*Train Me Jedi Master. I love shooting at 60fps with my FX30 but with my ZV-E10 at 30fps with all video as I don't do B Rolls a lot*

Wait- if you're shooting at 60FPS that means your shutter needs to be at 1/120?!
Yep
NICE 👍

is dat een peperplantje??
Ik heb geen idee! 😂 dat shot was ooit ingezonden om LUTs op te testen

I Shoot in 8k 30 and on an Insta 360 x4. Its Great
Do you use 8k a lot?
@@lilafromyoutube Yeah, pretty much all the time. It just gives the Best results

tHanks for the great video.
My channel isn't all that good...I'm afraid it is beyond help......But, it is still a blast making videos!
That’s most important 🫶🏻
why you shooting vertical instead horizontal?.. unless they asked for that.. i would think since it's a band everyone would like to be seen
Because the content is meant for socials which is vertical video ;)
