In 26 years I must have heard this piece thousands of times, studio version, live versions, still brings tears to my eyes and a knot in my throat every single time. A masterpiece of nuance and subtlety, possibly one of the most melodically beautiful, emotionally intense and gripping guitar instrumentals ever.
Amen!
Yep. Me too

In a concert in Valencia (Spain) in 2008, he dedicated this song to me personally. I saw him at the sound check before the concert and I asked him if they were going to play Cry for you that night.
He told me this: Yes, for you.
I will never forget it.
Andy Timmons is a Capo
one of the guitar gods
Such an inspiring dude!
And relatively unknown. I'm a bit of a guitar nut - but have only just come across him (via 'Andy makes Dan cry' on That Pedal Show). Now I can't get enough of him. And seems a really decent guy.
USED MY GUITAR, WITH MY NEW TONES MAYBE HEAR A ODD
You is a guitarist Eddy Van Halen could have sat and just listened to... maybe he actually did... then go back to his studio to recreate some of it himself. That's saying something. Love how you play! I'm inspired.
Nothing like a guitar! Like how a beautiful woman feels in your arms. Perfection.
To me this is one of the best guitar instrumentals ever written in the history of humanity. I first heard this in the Ibanez anniversary, it was my first time time to see Andy and I listened to all his albums before and after. Amazingly flawless performance as usual.
You have great taste my dude, I also saw your comment on Satriani’s made of tears live which is also my all time favorite. I feel the exact same way about this track, I’ve heard nothing like it.
I feel that Windows To The Soul from Steve Vai has to be part of the discussion as well.
Tender Surrender is a great ballad too @@jimbojimjs
The original was too perfect even player himself could not copy it......what a legend ❤
Andy is such a lyrical guitarist. A technical wizard who just doesn't spout off thoughtless/soulless riffs. This jam is definitely a case in point.
thats what i thought. i felt like im hearing some voice there.
Probably the MOST melodic guitar player around. Such feel, phrasing and chops perfectly placed. Hats off to you Andy Timmons.
Check out Stel Andre, influenced by Andy T. Stel is super good.
I was fortunate to attend an Andy Timmons guitar workshop in Dallas many years ago. He played this, and I was sitting directly in front of him -- it was akin to a religous experience. I remember it often. Thank you for all you do, Andy!
😂 Love it!
Curious what a "guitar workshop" does for you as a player, asides from being inspired by the greats in front of you in person
It's probably not too "teachy" but I see shit like this all the time all over, just curious what the average experience is like
I can hear the guitar cry. 😭
Andy Timmons, my hero and inspiration. Thank you.
The best guitar solo in the world.
Such a beautiful musician. He has it all. Tasteful phrasing emotional, articulate, melodic & unique. With a level of technical ability to carry the load. He is simply one of the greatest there’s ever been.
Thanks so much ❤
That 90th anniversary concert got such a lot of viewing back in the late 90s! It was definitely Andy's night, some sublime playing indeed.
Glad to see he has lost none of that fire whatsoever :)
That specific performance of this song is pure magic. One of those "capturing lightning in a bottle" performances. Amazing
In my opinion...one of the most soulful and powerful ballads ever written !🔥
Maybe this channel is hacked by scammer...
@@june9713 oh gosh I just saw this comment ! That is the weirdest thing ever! I did not make that comment...thx for pointing that out
@@june9713oh I know what happened! There was a comment by a hacker Andy timmons account! And I made the scam comment !
It will stand tall against the test of time. A generational masterpiece.
I went to a guitar retreat about five years ago and Andy was one of the guest presenters. I hadn't really heard his music except in the build to my trip. At the end of a session he ran about harmony he said "any more questions" and a voice from near me said "will you play Cry for You". Great question :) He said "sure", just put on his backing track and went for it. I have to say, playing it for around forty people he put just as much heart and soul into it as for a packed arena gig. It was a pretty small room and the ambience he created with his sound and touch was incredible. I shuffled quietly out of the room with the rest and went off for a quiet few moments to get my emotions back together. What an experience, and what a talent. I'll never forget that magic that he created. And he was a really nice guy too.
So good, better than original but really really BETTER.
How can that guitar whammy so good without a locking nut
You are such a Beautiful Man with a Beautiful soul, it always comes through in your music, love hearing you play, Fine Gear Behind you, Amazing Guitar ❤ Lisa Einsohn
The best of the best! Amazing!
One of the most beautiful guitar songs ever written you are a legend. Brazil loves you.
Best Version ever!!!!!
Absolutely incredible
Best version cry for you
Absolutely fire. Guitar magic
Beautiful Master piece 🥲🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
This song will be always a master piece! 🙏🌟❤️🎸
Simplemente gracias.. te amo🎉
Eric Johnson couldn’t of composed anything better ❤Andy your a true master ❤
Thank You for all the Years of your Beautiful Music Andy Timmons 🤘🎸🎵
This is right up there with 'Cause We Ended As Lovers by Jeff Beck. Both masterpieces in their own right! Rock on, Andy!
I'm from Russia, I listened to this melody a million times, and I want to listen again and again! guitar melodic god! Bravo👏👏👏👏👏
Hello from Scotland.
Привет из Омска брат 🤝
Hello from Poland.
@@JohnWeirdoe Hi. What city are you from?
@@JohnWeirdoe I'm an ethnic Pole. It's nice to see you by chance)
Jesus.....he's so f**king good. I could listen to that ALL day. With all due respect to this shredders, how fast you can play doesn't hold a candle to this kind of melodic solo'ing. I'm not sure you can even call it solo'ing, when played like this. Astonishing tasteful, and beautiful.
You can't make something perfect better...at least, you can't if you're not Andy Timmons ❤
Awesome, no words... only God know about your talent
Phenomenal playing as always - as an Aussie, im going to cry on behalf of Dan....
Indeed, yet with a stiff upper lip in dignity.
AUSSIE X3 OI OI OI!!
When i saw first Andy with Cry For You on Ibanez Anniversary Concert it did blow my mind with emotion ! He's guitar tone, dual delay settings and pedal and jsx+ unbeliavble.. A true legend who managed to get Ibanez to make a professional strat for the first time
I was feeling like a world weight of bricks was on my shoulders today and then I heard this and it all went away. Your music has been an uplifting node for me in decades passing.
...magic.
Goosebumps...again! Not easy nailing such a specific performance while keeping its heart! 🔥
So true! Although have been listening to Jack Thammarat's cover a lot who comes very close!
Es posiblemente, el tema instrumental más bonito de la historia de la guitarra eléctrica. Es absolutamente sublime. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Holy crap. Just amazing. You are a guitar god.
Obrigado Andy por tocar essa magnífica performance em 97, agora em 2023..
That original ‘97 performance is one of the greatest of all time. Now it’s updated with Andy’s current tone. This is something I have been dreaming about for a long time. Finally all taht brilliant playing has the tone it deserves.
The moment the tune reached my ears, a reflex action took over my fingers as they instinctively reached for the guitar and began strumming away. This is how my journey with the guitar began.
"To that exceptional guitarist who, with every note he plays, awakens emotions and makes my soul vibrate. Your ability to transmit feelings through the strings is simply amazing. Every time I listen to your music, my hair stands on end and I feel a chills run through my body.
Your technical prowess is undeniable, but what really captivates me is the passion and feeling you put into every chord and every solo. You are able to turn the guitar into an extension of your being, and your music becomes a universal language that transcends words.
Thank you for giving us unforgettable moments and for transporting us to emotional places through your melodies. Your talent is immense and your passion is contagious. Keep playing with that overwhelming feeling and continue to inspire all of us who have the privilege of listening to you.
You are a true master of the six strings and your music will live in our hearts forever. Bravo, exceptional guitarist!"
Best in class! Just brilliant!
Amazing song!!One of the best guitar instrumentals ever!!!
I miss this kind of music.
Genius!!!
still amazing as the first time
Soooooo much feeling!!!!!!!!!😁
The Best! ❤😊
Still one of my most favourite! life changing jams!
it's very emotional for a guitarist to play every note of this song!!! ❤️🔥
The 1997 performance truly was something special. He transcended the matrix that night. Still, this one gives me the chills.
This made a revival..love it
the first time was 18 year ago, in highschool, now im 35 year. Tnks Andy love you.
The only guy I know of who has tone that Eric Johnson in envious of. Legend!
This song was so soothing for my soul when my father passed away in 2014. Thank you Andy for your music .so inspiring and healing !
What a journey that must have been from start tell then inspirational
Magnifico.💣💣💣💣💣💣
i remember when he played bohemian with just a coin. a fucking coin. he's a man of sheer will
Dude, so sweet, nobody plays this like Andy Timmons in terms of phrasing and the song speaking to you the emotion.
The heart of a giant in a normal human being. A lot of players have great technique but not too many have the huge heart and feeling that he have. Music is about that. Feel and transmit to others your feelings. Art at it's best.
Like a fine wine, it just keeps getting better!
My gosh!
Still hits the same!
the lines the phrasing the dynamics the mastery all the while keeping it so musical and emotional. One of my favourite songs ever.
We love you AT!!!❤
Best of the best right there! Six string slinger from the heavens!
That legendary 1997 performace has a magical something to it that even the legend himself cannot reproduce 20+ years later. Not saying this is not an amazing performance, but the 1997 version will always be Andy's magnum opus!
Extreme talent beyond measure- Truly one of the greatest!
This is a good as I remember him ever playing it from the versions that I have seen
I’ve just come across this man for the first time in my life, and I can say I am extremely impressed with his ability to be a part of that guitar that many just can’t attain in a lifetime. I felt his soul thru his playing! 👏
I love his playing!
Love from Australia❤❤❤❤❤
The first time I heard this song I was in my 20s and in college... Years later on December 9, 2012 I went to the Istanbul concert with my ex-wife.
The next day we met at the ferry pier and I said to Andy 'my heart is going to stop' and Andy hugged me and said something like 'man, thank you so much! It will always be a memory I will carry with me.
I'm 42 years old now and I still listen to it with the same feeling. 'Cry for you' is a song with a lot of meaning for me. My life isn't going so well. Cry for you makes me cry.
Thank you Andy. We would love to see you in Istanbul again.
*молодец Андрюха!*
Andy plays the music I hear in my head but don't stand a chance at conveying through the instrument like he does. What a wonderful talent.
What gets me about watching this (other than how brilliant it is) is how all the parts played are actually pretty easy for a competent guitarist and, more to the point, that the mastery of being a great player is to be able to weave it all together so seamlessly and lyrically. Basically, just because you can play the main riff from Neon or the solo from Get the Funk Out, it doesn’t necessarily make you a great player. It’s why learning entire songs (all the parts, not just the main riff or solo) is essential when you’re starting out. Took me a long time to figure this out. This guy is a class act. He totally surrenders to the song, without ego. Great player!
Monster !
legend
That dude tone is so pleasing
Holy cow!! Awesome! Loved that you stayed true to the original. What a beautiful guitar composition.
Genius....!!!!🤩🤩🤩 Beatifulll playing whit to mach soul
I don't know how many times I've heard this song and it's always the same feeling over and over. Hands down one of the most beautiful songs ever.
One of the finest guitar pieces ever written.
A clinic on feel and dynamics
Besides the late Gary Moore no other guitarist has moved me so emotionally ! Your a very special and rare musician
You should try Andrew Latimer from Camel or Pat Metheny, or Larry Carlton for emotional solos. Et Bien Sur D. Gilmour
Andy Timmons excelente como siempre, no me canso de escuchar esta canción. Uno de los mejores guitarristas , no se puede tocar mejor ni poner mas sentimiento en cada nota.
This is his most popular/most requested song... and you can tell he's played in a million times... he's a master!!
Something is never old
This is one of my fav guitar instrumental songs. Always love to hear it, but never learn it. We can feel the emotion...👍👍👍
I remember this piece performed in Jakarta back in 2004, Hard Rock Cafe. Guitar was still the flower ones. It's been years apparently.
Man that was where started to become a fan. Well since school time 😄
This is the epitome of guitar, there is no higher than this possible. Expression, oneness, no equal.
i have listen and play this song countless times.....but still for me, one of most emotional instrumental ever written and played on guitar......
Andy , you need to talk about the live performance....how you felt on that day.
In command of his instrument...Bravo
Oh my god, a heavenly echo to this man..
I really like this musical instrument..the soul of the instrument is very good
